Over the last few months, Mel has been the victim of Addison Rae. Addison is trying to become the premier gourmet pet chef in Laguna Beach, and she is using old letters from Mel’s mother to get Mel to make introductions. Addison’s latest gig is as the chef at a camping trip for dog owners and their pets, and Mel intends to get the letters over the course of the trip. However, before she can, Addison turns up dead. Mel knows she makes a great suspect, but can she find the really killer before her mother’s secret, and her motive, is exposed?
The books in this series are always fun, and this book is no exception. The mystery starts well and moves quickly as we get more suspects and motives to sort through before Mel finally figures things out. The dogs’ antics are always entertaining. The people can tend to be more caricature than full character here, but it works for the series and provides us with some laughs. Mel is real and helps ground things. Mel’s assistant Betty is also along for the ride in this book. She’s a hoot, but we get a bit too much of her here, and I grew tired of some of her antics at times. The brooch that Mel is feuding over with her cousin Caro continues to make things challenging here, and I’m anxious to find out what happens next in that saga. Readers who have pets will be interested in the two recipes at the end of the book. Pack your bags because this is a glamping trip not to miss.

Review:
Mel agrees to go on a camping trip for charity with her friend and assistant, Betty. She was kind of forced to go because a celebrity pet chef, who is blackmailing her, wants her to go camping and promises to turn over the blackmailing material at the campgrounds. Unfortunately, before Mel can get the evidence, the blackmailer is murdered. Mel is considered a suspect because she was seen arguing with the victim shortly before the murder. With the help of Betty, Mel has to uncover the killer before she ends up up a creek without a paddle.
The characters are well rounded and well developed. Betty is a quirky funny character and I enjoyed the bickering and banter between her and Mel. Many of their exchanges had me laughing out loud. I also found many of Mel's’ thoughts quite humorous. And the battle continues between Mel and her cousin, Caro, over their grandmother’s brooch and I really enjoyed that.
The writing style flows smoothly and the book is a quick easy read. The mystery is carried on throughout much of the book and there were enough suspects to keep the reader guessing. The writing is descriptive and while reading the book, I felt like I was at the campgrounds, watching all the action going on around me. To me, that makes for an extra special read, being drawn into the world that is created by the author.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. It has a bit of everything that makes for a great cozy: great characters, great setting, great mystery and great animals. Do yourself a favor and pick up all the Pampered Pets Mystery series and enjoy.
I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a honest review. I would like to thank NetGalley and Bell Bridge Books for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Terrific! Not as humour filled as the first book but a great read nevertheless. Going glamping is not her first choice but she is compelled to do so by her blackmailer. The only problem is the that blackmailer is killed shortly into the trip and she seems to be the most obvious suspect. Can she sort through all the clues and find the real killer? Multiple motives and suspects that will have you switching fom one to another. A great cozy!
Melinda Langston and Betty Foxx will surely make you laugh in this terrific book. "Glamping Under the Stars" is an ARL Fundraiser and Betty and Mel are ready to roll in a lavish RV. With their dogs by their side, the ladies set out to enjoy the weekend, but unfortunately for Mel, things take a turn for the worse when Addison Rae continues to blackmail her. It seems there is more than one person Addison is blackmailing so it's no surprise when she turns up dead. Who killed the blackmailer? Why is Mel the main suspect? You will definitely get your giggle on reading this quirky story. I am fairly new to this series but I will definitely be recommending the series to others.
I like the style of writing the authors bring to the reader and I enjoy all the humor they weave into the story.

I'm catching up on my Sparkle Abbey reading after buying this book at the Left Coast Crime conference in Hawaii. This one features, Mel, the owner of the Pampered Pet Boutique, who goes on a "glamping" (glamour camping) trip where the chef who is blackmailing her is killed. And of course, Mel is a suspect. As usual, Mel is torn between relying on her two handsome men (a lawyer and a policeman) and baffled and amused by the antics of her sidekick, Betty, who rents a luxury RV for the weekend. There are plenty of suspects including a ranger, an agent, an angry sous chef, a jewel thief and a pet chef. I really didn't see the end coming (I rarely do) and am still a bit puzzled by how it all went down.
Mel is being blackmailed so she agrees to go "glamping" (glamourous camping) with Betty and the dogs. Of course soon a dead body shows up and Mel is a prime suspect. She is away from Malone and broken up with Grey, so it is up to just her and Betty to find the killer.
It sounded like a fun "glamping" event with plenty of cool things to do with dogs and a professional chef feeding everyone.
I really hope Mel and Caro will finally make-up as I'd love to see a book with the two of them investigating together.
The boutique owner and her scrappy assistant are at it again. This time they are glamping for an ARL fund raiser. It isn't all glam and great food when one of the chefs is murdered and a prized broach is lost. Blackmail and murder don't mix in this episode of cousins at war. Can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
I really like this series. This one seemed to be a bit faster paced. Betty is one of my favorite characters, although she can be a bit irritating. I am kind of disappointed that there haven't been any new additions to the series. I had to laugh about the brooch, the ongoing under story of all the novels. I think this is the first one that actually ended on a real cliffhanger.
This is such a cute series! I still get a bit confused on who is narrating the story. For some reason I can never remember which cousin is which. It had a great mystery with a super hateable victim, so there was no shortage of suspects.
It doesn't matter which of the cousins is featured, the books are always fun. I wouldn't mind taking a glamping trip but murder on the side definitely changed the experience for them. I don't know how Mel puts up with Betty but their relationship has evolved into a true friendship.
Recently, Sparkle Abbey released their eighth book in The Pampered Pets Mystery series, RAIDERS OF THE LOST BARK! Don’t you just love the title?!?! This time the story takes place from the viewpoint of Melinda Sue Langston, former Texan beauty queen, but she’d rather you call her Mel. Mel is the owner of Bow Wow Boutique in Laguna Beach, California. Feisty 80-something-year-old, Betty Fox, is her assistant at the shop and is nagging her to attend the Five Paws-Up Laguna Beach Animal Reserve League fundraiser. While Mel doesn’t have anything against the charity, the fundraiser is glamping for a week in the Laguna Hills wilds. Plus there’s the issue of the chef for the event, blackmailer Addison Rae, hired only because she forced Mel to recommend her for the job. Mel would rather not be around Addison all week long.
Addison threatens Mel into attending and before she knows it, Betty Fox is driving them down the freeway in a tricked-out motorhome, worthy of any glamping trip. Mel’s only interest in tagging along is to be able to retrieve her mother’s ill-advised love letters to Addison’s father, and hopefully save her own father from heartache in finding out about his wife’s affair. Instead of getting the letters from Addison, the blackmailer demands one more “favor” before she hands them over. Mel blows up and their fight is witnessed by many of the other campers. Later, Addison is found murdered in the spa, the letters missing, and Mel has no alibi since she was waiting out on the hiking trail for the blackmailer. A suspect in the murder, Mel must contend with the Laguna Hills detectives who aren’t very appreciative of her offer to help find the real killer. Betty joins her in snooping around and asking questions, but the more they talk to people the more they realize Mel wasn’t the only one being blackmailed. When another murder takes place, Mel and Betty realize they had better find the killer before one of them becomes the next victim.
RAIDERS OF THE LOST BARK was such a fun read! I loved Betty Fox as Mel’s sidekick…she’s a hoot and provided plenty of laugh out loud moments! There were other quirky characters that added to the book’s entertainment, while the mystery plot had plenty of suspects and was nicely interwoven with relationship subplots. The on-going fight between Mel and her cousin, Caro, over their grandmother’s gaudy brooch adds additional humor along with the issue of what will happen between Mel and her on-again, off-again, fiancé, Grey Donovan, who comes back to town. Even though this is the eighth book in the series, it’s easily read as a stand-alone. As usual, Sparkle Abbey provides recipes for pets. I made their 1-ingredient treat for my grandpuppy and it was a huge hit! I greatly look forward to the next installment in The Pampered Pets Mystery series!

. To keep her mother's old affair from breaking her father's heart Melinda "Mel" Langston, owner of the Bow Wow Boutique, is going to pay the Piper or in this case Addison Roe, the daughter of the contestant Judge her mother had the affair with. Addison has agreed to turn over the love letters Mel's mother wrote in exchange for a recommendation and a heartfelt forward written by Mel for Addison's new Pet Cookbook.
Mel joins her boutique assistant Betty Foxx on an exclusive fundraiser for the Animal Rescue League. A weekend of Luxury and Gourmet Food for both the pampered pets and their human caregivers. Things are cut short when Addison is found murdered and suspicion falls on Mel. As she searches for evidence to prove her innocence she discovers she is not the only one on the fundraiser being blackmailed. Now the question is which one killed Addison and why? Mel's sniffing out the killer, but will killer stop her first?
I can't help but love the Pampered Pet Series. As I read the interactions between the pets and the humans, I can't help but chuckle they have such strong personalities and to see their humans sometimes mimicking them. The combined writing talents of Sparkle and Abbey bring all the characters alive for the reader, both the four legged and two legged characters. I cannot wait to see outrageous thing Betty will do next, her exuberance for life lifts you up and carries you along for the ride. Get yourself a cup of tea or coffee, whatever your preference, find a comfy chair and settle in for a few hours of pleasure and fun. 5 out of 5 Stars

Review: I once again enjoyed this series. I was glued to the book from the start. I will admit that I have missed some of the book since Kitty Kitty Bang Bang, and I was sad that Mel and Grey broke up. I now have to read all the books just to get caught up. I find the stories to have enough suspense to go along with the interactions of Mel and Betty. I always enjoy how the story flows and is easy to read. The characters are well developed and well written. I find that the story line is not gory and there is little cursing. I love how the characters interact and the writing is smooth. Each time I read one of the books the more I like the series. I also believe, since I have done it, that you can jump into the middle of the series without missing a beat.

Stories that make you smile from the beginning are always a delight to read and author Sparkle Abbey’s upcoming release, RAIDERS OF THE LOST BARK, is a fine example. Between protagonist Melinda Langston and her quirky assistant, Betty Foxx, you can’t help but laugh sometimes despite the fact that murder abounds. Melinda, owner of the pet accessories shop Bow Wow Boutique, reluctantly agrees to go to ‘Glamping Under the Stars’ with Betty. In reality, Melinda is really going to see Addison Rae, Orange County’s hottest new gourmet pet chef, who is blackmailing Melinda. It seems Addison has some incriminating letters Melinda desperately wants. But before Addison comes through on her promise to turn over the letters, she’s found murdered. Since she and Melinda had heated words earlier in the day, Melinda becomes a prime suspect in her death. Melinda has to sniff through a long list of Addison’s enemies to find the real killer. Question is, can she do it before she or Betty become the next victim? With a cast of eccentric characters that are likable and well-developed, the story moves at a good pace holding your attention. The setting draws you in and adds depth to the story. The protagonist is strong-willed, but shows a vulnerable side readers can relate to. The interaction among the core cast of characters enhances the story giving it a feel of friends you’d enjoy being around. RAIDERS OF THE LOST BARK is a pleasant tale with twists and turns that can be read as a standalone. A blend of mystery, mayhem, romance and laughter makes this a captivating story. FTC Full Disclosure – A copy of this book was sent to me by the publisher in hopes I would review it. However, receiving the complimentary copy did not influence my review. The thoughts are completely my own and given honestly and freely.
Sparkle Abbey's Pampered Pet Mysteries are always fun to read, particularly if you love dogs. She is great at depicting the quirky nature of pet lovers and the varied natures of their furry loves. When you add murder, more than a little comedy and a touch of romance - voilà the result is a great cozy.
Mel's former pageant days seem to always come back to haunt her. Addison Rae, the daughter of the pageant judge who Mel's mother had an affair with, is blackmailing Mel. In exchange for her recommendation and a foreward to Addison's cookbook, Addison will give back Mel's mother's letters.
In order to get the letters back, Mel joins Betty her employee and friend on a "glamping" expedition for pet owners and their pets. The trip promises luxurious accommodations and good food, but all Mel can think of are the letters. It doesn't come as much surprise when Addison is murdered. Unfortunately thanks to a few overheard arguments and Betty's enthusiastic "help" Mel becomes the chief suspect.
Raiders of the Lost Bark is a light mystery that is big on laughs. Betty's over the top antics and cougarish ways make for plenty of groans, winces, and more than a few bursts of laughter. Mel is more down to earth, but doesn't always make the smartest decisions. Thankfully, she has a lot of help. If you are looking for a fast fun read that has plenty of cute pooches and quirky characters, look no further.

I received a copy of Raiders of the Lost Bark from the publisher and netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review.
This is a delightful addition to the Pampered Pets Mystery series. Glamping (glamorous camping), blackmail, and murder are just a few of the things pet boutique ower, Mel must deal with. Mel becomes the prime suspect when pet chef, Addison is found murdered at a glamping event. Unfortunately, Mel has no alibi for the time of death and was being blackmailed by Addison. Quirky octagenarian, Betty is trying to "help" clear Mel's name. Mel discovers she was not the only one being blackmailed by Addison and must figure out who the culprit is before she gets arrested for the crime.
I really enjoy this series. It has fun quirky characters in both the humans and their pets. I love reading about Raider and his antics (he is Betty's St. Bernard puppy). This is a fast-paced story that has a well thought out mystery. I was kept guessing throughout the book as to who the culprit was.
This is the second book in the series I have read and didn't realize each book focused on one of two cousins, Caro and Mel. The last book I read featured Caro. I like this element, I think it's something different and refreshing. I should also mention that this book can be read as a stand-alone. The authors do a wonderful job of giving enough information from previous books without bogging down the story. They just have me wanting to read the previous books so I can get the full story. I'm looking forward to doing that! I also look forward to reading the next book to see what happens next!
I received a copy of this manuscript from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I requested this book from NetGalley with the vague remembrance that I had enjoyed the Pampered Pets Mysteries. I couldn't remember any of them but started into Raiders of the Last Bark anyway. About halfway through, I sort of remembered pieces of the earlier books and went to check out my reviews. It's been about three years since I last read a PPM which explains why it's a little foggy in my memory. I've also skipped three of the books apparently which was fine. A lot of the back story, like Mel's feud with her cousin Caro over their grandmother's broach, was inserted neatly into this story without too much fanfare or over-explaining. I'm not sure if I'll go back and read the three I've missed but it was nice to be able to jump back in without too much trouble. Mel is the first-person narrator of this book (my reviews reminded me that the books switch between her and Caro). This time she's heading out to a glamping event. One that she's been blackmailed into attending by the resident pet chef (is this a thing? Good lord I'm glad I live in a small town in the back of beyond). When said pet chef turns up with a fork sticking out of the side of her neck, somehow Mel ends up as the main suspect. I say "somehow" because it seems very odd that the police would immediately zone in on her and not let up. Maybe not in real life but at least in this kind of series mystery.
What do you do if your mama's honor and your daddy's heart are about to be broken by a blackmailer?
If you're Mel and her feisty senior assistant and friend Betty, you're on the case! Mel's mother's indiscretion with a beauty pageant judge is about to become public if Addison Rae doesn't get what she wants. Trouble is that she wants everything!
During a "glamping" (lux rv's and gourmet campfire food) weekend, to benefit for a local animal rescue organization, Mel and Betty discover that Addison is blackmailing several attendees. So when Addison winds up dead, the classic "whodunit" begins. Is it the hunky guy that Betty is after? How about the chef who was fired suddenly to make room for Addison to debut her recipes? Or the sous chef who is tired of being belittled? The high maintenance cookbook editor, the camp director- so many suspects and so little time!
I enjoyed this cozy which had a mystery with twists and turns, humor, romance, delicious gourmet food and lovable canine companions.
Waiting to see what happens next!
I received an ARC of this book for a fair and honest review.
This was the first book I've read in this series, perhaps that's why there are so many higher reviews. After 7 previous books the other reviewers must be invested in the series and feel more for the characters. The author doesn't rehash what happens in the previous books but does drop a few references. Raiders stands alone fine probably because the characters are fairly standard cozy characters, with Mel being a fairly typical heroine who is having guy troubles since she insists on going off and getting into trouble without telling her boyfriend what she's up to.
While the setting of glamping (glamorous camping) is a unique one for a cozy mystery, the characters are fairly standard even the "wacky" octogenarian Betty. (Come on though, lipstick eyebrows?). As a quick, light cozy read, I have no issues with the story, but found nothing interesting or funny enough to make me want to go out and read the rest of them. Should one be given to me, yes, I'd give another a try.
I received a copy from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
Join Bow Wow Boutique owner, Melinda Langston, and her octogenarian friend, Betty, as they rent deluxe campers and go ‘galamping’ at a special gathering of dog owners brought together by a recent pet chef star, Addison, and a planned few days of doggie events.
However, that pet chef star is also a blackmailer – matter of fact, she’s blackmailing Melinda herself, along with others, we discover – and as Melinda tries to deal with her blackmailer, her blackmailer winds up murdered.
Melinda is a chief suspect – but Melinda and her friend, Betty, begin turning up a host of suspicious others – and then there is the second killing.
Here is another comic tale, involving fidos and fee fees and their humans – I have enjoyed this series, but this new addition didn’t land as well with me as had the others – maybe it’s me? Maybe I was too busy? Or maybe I prefer the series back on its home ground in Laguna Beach and at the Bow Wow Boutique.
Melinda Langston, amateur sleuth and Bow Wow Boutique owner, finds herself “Glamping Under the Stars” with a blackmailer, Orange County’s hottest new gourmet pet chef, Addison Rae. But before Mel can put an end to Addison’s strong-arming, the chef is found dead. Mel is just one of many suspects who had motive to snuff out the demanding chef.

Anyone up for some glamping mixed with an ounce of murder? The new glamorous form of camping is going to the dogs in this next installment for the Pampered Pet Mysteries. Melinda or Mel for short isn't one for being trapped under the stars with a feisty, Addison Rae. A chef with a taste for rubbing the fur the wrong way.
I enjoyed the real life tags to mystery shows, and to other great little tidbits that kept me wishing this wasn't a book of a fictional camping area. Sparkle Abbey brings the reader into each new book and creates a fictional place that invites the reader to be apart of the story, not just a bystander.
I was kept guessing through this book and looking all directions to find out who done it. I look forward to my next great escape with the Pampered Pets.
I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review.
Great Series! This is a great book; this is the eighth book in the Pampered Pets Mysteries series by Sparkle Abbey. Melinda Langston is the owner of Bow Wow Boutique and amateur sleuth. Mel is being blackmailed by the hottest new gourmet pet chef, Addison Rae. When Addison is found dead, Mel becomes one of the suspects since she was seen fighting with her. It is up to Mel and her friend and assistant, Betty to put their sleuthing skills to the test and find out what really happened. If you are looking for a great mystery that will leave you guessing until the end, then you need to read this great book. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
Heaven or hell? A week-long camping adventure with your dog at a regional park could be either, especially when you toss in pampered luxuries for the two- and four-legged attendees. Melinda Langston had no intention of accompanying her friend on this excursion, but her blackmailer forced her to make the trip.
Glamorous camping, or glamping, started with a festive atmosphere, but the blackmailer’s murder put Mel in the hot seat. Cops and robbers, dogs and strangers, friends and relatives all come into play in this rollicking whodunit.
An engaging series by two talented authors. I’m already looking forward to their next offering.

Raiders of the Lost Bark, Book Eight of the Pampered Pets Mystery series does not disappoint. Melinda Langston, amateur sleuth and Bow Wow Boutique Owner, finds herself "Glamping Under the Stars" with her friend and employee Betty and their dogs and dozens of other pet owners in fancy RVs out in the wilderness. Blackmailer Addison Rae is found murdered and Melinda is a suspect, but that's just the beginning of intrigue and confusion as killers, dogs, chefs and law enforcement mix in a wonderful new adventure, Of, of course, the brooch is lost and found. The recipe for Toss Across Sweet Potato Chips is authentic. My dogs love them.
I love this series. This is book #8 in the series. It is a fun and laugh out loud mystery, with witty characters and sweet adorable dogs. Mel Langston, owner of Bow Wow Boutique, finds herself "Glamping Under the Stars" with an obnoxious blackmailing chef. I love Mel with her quick wit and attitude. The hot new pet chef is found murdered, leaving Mel to find out who done it, and with lots of people with motive it makes for a can't put down mystery. Looking forward to #9. I received a copy from the author's for an honest review. The thoughts and opinions are my own.
Melinda and Betty close the Pampered Pet to go glamping with other pet owners. Of course Addison is still blackmailing Mel and several others. When Addison turns up dead everyone is scrambling to recover the evidence. Also the broach is missing and Mel is trying to think up a way to explain it to Caro. I love this series(Pampered Pets Mysteries) and most pet lovers will enjoy the tips an recipes included. With 8 books and still going strong I can't wait for #9. The cozy keeps you gathering the clues and coming up with possible suspects along with Mel.
I couldn't help but request with a Title like Raider of the Lost Bark. I have never read this series before and I was hoping I could just jump right in and thankful I was right. The authors doesn't rehash took much and everything flows well. Sparkle Abbey writes a very cute, simple and fast pace cozy mystery. It will make the reader smile and enjoy a fun afternoon in the world Sparkle Abbey has created. AC from Netgelley.
