Cutter Beaumont is the sheriff and mayor of Erskine Island, a small island off the coast of North Carolina. Ellie Parks rents a house on the island for vacation, wanting peace and quiet.
I found the heroine a bit annoying at times. The hero was good, though. I liked him. There were several secondary characters that really added to the story. The story itself was fine. Ran a bit slow in places but it was a light easy read.

Wonderful sweet romance with just a touch of mystery/suspense to add to the charm. This may be a reissue, but great care was taken to update and get the tech issues correct. I wish other Publishers and authors would do the same.
Ellie has rented a house on Erskine Island, SC and is looking for nothing more that peace, quiet and some resolution to the tumult that has been her life for the past year. What she is definitely not looking for is a man, especially one like Cutter. What Ellie finds is a wonderful place with warm, kind people and a man like Cutter who ends up being just what she needs.

This was a sweet love story with a very poignant backstory. This is another one that I would recommend to my low angst loving friends.

Sweet, tender and sometimes humorous while dealing with an issue some unlucky women still encounter today this is a story I recommend to those who like a book that is an easy to read good story with delightful main and supporting characters.
Ellie Parks arrives on Erskine Island for a much needed vacation. She hopes to relax, regroup and find a part of herself that she feels might have been lost. Cutter Beaumont, a flirtatious handsome rogue who wears many hats on the island, takes her to the cottage she has rented. Cutter is somewhat flummoxed by the fact that his usual charm does not immediately work. Ellie meets some of the Gullah population and makes a friend or two including Rosa and her charming young very silent son. With time on her own she contemplates, exercises, makes some friends and begins to open herself to Cutter. With her time on the island nearly finished something happens that might prevent the happily ever after that Cutter and Ellie both deserve.
I enjoyed this book. The story, originally written over two decades ago still is viable today. The issues are real, compelling and handled well. Updates have been made but there is still the feel of the past and a wonderful feel it is indeed!

Love this author
I so very much enjoyed Ms. Hughes books when I first read her as a co-author on the evonovich books, I really don't think they have been as good since she isn't writing them now. Love her sense of compassion and humor that comes forth in all of her books.always a strong story and wonderful characters that you will come to love and not want to say good bye to when you read The End. Blessings and be safe.

Such a fun read! The relationship building was fantastic. I was laughing out loud, may have had a tear in my eye a time or two. Loved this one. Great story line. Ellie & Cutter;s banter hooked me in. Cutter was definitely dedicated. lol!

I got this book from net gallery for an honest review.
This was a great read with an interesting narrative. Ellie goes on a vacation to a remote island. She meets Cutter, who has various roles ranging from Sheriff to breeding hunter dogs. Cutter doesn't hide the fact that he's attracted to Ellie and flirts to his heart content. Ellie is rude and judgmental towards Cutter but when Cutter keeps his distance, she finds herself thinking about him. A sweet romance about a woman trying to heal from her dark past and Cutter who manages to break down some of her walls and help bring back the person she once was. My favourite part was when Cutter takes Ellie raccoon hunting. When Cutter signals, his dogs run off but Duke, the ugly dog doesn't budge because he isn't in any rush to go raccoon hunting - Ellie tries to push Duke to encourage him to follow the other dogs and when that fails she says Duke is used to tracking bears not raccoons - I couldn't stop laughing. Great book and I truly enjoyed it: I liked Cutter and his over confident ego because it certainly was entertaining.

Ellie Parks needs time to heal from a brutal assault and to get away from it all. She decides to take a vacation on Erskine Island which is a very small island with a small knit community that does not usually take to strangers. Cutter Beaumont it the sheriff, mayor, tavern owner and helps the people of the island. Ellie tries to keep her distance from Cutter from the beginning but he isn't having it and with them being neighbors it is a little bit harder to do. Rose, one of the residents of the island, welcomes Ellie and befriends her. With Cutter's help and Rose's friendship, the healing begins for Ellie, The attraction between Cutter and Ellie is evident but Ellie feels she has scared him off when she tells him about having been raped. When Ellie has to return home due to a break in the case, Ellie cannot find Cutter and begins to doubt that he really has feelings for her. When Cutter returns after an urgent trip off the island and finds Ellie going he is feeling pretty much the same.

Ellie went on vacation to Erskine Island to regroup , get some peace and quiet. Ellie just got through a very rough year. Ellie makes a few friends shortly after she gets to the island. Cutter does alot on the island, he’s mayor, sheriff, bartender, dog breeder and whatever else is needed he tries to be there.Cutter loved the island and it’s people. But he doesn’t hide the fact he is interested in Ellie. But Ellie had walls up and was a bit rude to Cutter but she had her reasons to act like she did. However she does soon start to heal and Cutter is there for her. Cutter knew when he first seen Ellie she was special.
This was a good romance story with some mystery and suspense. I liked the ins and outs of this story especially involving Ellie and Cutter. I really liked the characters, this story It has a good plot and is well written. I recommend.

I have read Charlotte Hughes books before and this one stacks up there with the best of them. Ellie and Cutter were both well developed characters. Everything Cutter does to help protect his island and its residents was amazing. You really knew that he cared about them. When Ellie shows up on her vacation, he knows something is going to be different about her whether he is ready for it or not. Ellie has had a very traumatic year and wants to use this vacation to help herself heal. She had no idea when she got off the ferry that her life was going to change for the better, but not without its difficulties along the way. The supporting cast of characters here was very charming too.

It's been a bad year for Ellie Parks. She needs to get away and slow down to try to heal. She goes to a remote island with no cell service, no internet and few cars. She is not interested Ina a relationship but Cutter Beaumont, sheriff, mayor, bartender and just about every other job, won't take no for an answer. He has plenty of charm that Ellie finds hard to resist and he could be just what she needs, even if she thinks she isn't interested. Can Cutter help Ellie heal. This is a very heartwarming love story with a charming cast of supporting characters.

So, the thing about Charlotte Hughes's writing is, I read this book about a year ago, and I still remember the plot and the characters and their nuances. And, I still like the book, and I would read it again. I definitely cannot say that about other writers' works. It has made me want to look up her other work and she has a series about a psychiatrist that I LOVED. (First book is *What Looks Like Crazy*)

Charlotte Hughes sent this ebook for me to read and review. I started reading and didn't want to put it down. Loved the characters and the humor of the story. It touched on a subject that is close to my heart. The pain and suffering of rape victims. Charlotte Hughes has written another winner. A must read.

Great read
I'd forgotten just how funny Ms. Hughes books were. Great to visit an old favorite. The story is short, predictable, and laugh out loud funny. I thoroughly enjoyed the trip to Erskine Island.

I choose this book by Charlotte because I've read her series Crazy and it was a fun read. So I thought I would give this one a try and it also was a fun and sweet read
