On trembling legs, dress designer Rose Cavalliero stares up at the man she never thought she'd see again. Tall, dark and dangerous, Spaniard Nairo Moreno took Rose's virginity before a misunderstanding led her to nearly destroy his life. But now he's back and determined to collect the debt she owes him.
Designing his precious sister's wedding gown will cement Rose's career. But if she'd known that accepting Nairo's offer would see her blackmailed into becoming a more-than-convenient fiancée to the man who broke her heart, Rose would have said no…wouldn't she?
I was born in Nottinghamshire, England, but I didn't live there for very long. The family moved to West Yorkshire when I was just eighteen months old and so I have always regarded Yorkshire as my home. I grew up there as the middle child in a family of five—all girls—in a home where books were vitally important and I read anything I could get my hands on.
Even before I could write I was making up stories. My mother tells the story of me recounting the tale of the Three Little Raindrops — Drippy, Droppy and Droopy to my two younger sisters when I was four. I can't remember a time when I wasn't scribbling away at something, and I wrote my first 'book' when I was eleven, an adventure story, most of it in secret in lessons at school—particularly maths lessons, which I hated.
But everyone, particularly teachers and my parents, told me that I would never make a living as a writer, and I should work towards a more secure career. So I decided instead that if I couldn't write books, I could at least work with them and so I settled for becoming a librarian. On leaving school, I went to the University College of Wales Aberystwyth where I studied English and Librarianship for my degree.
More importantly, university was also where I met my husband who was also studying English there. We married and moved back north, eventually settling in Lincolnshire. Here I worked as a children's librarian until I left work when my son was born.
After three years of being a full-time housewife and mother, I was ready for a new challenge, but needed something I could do at home, and so I turned to my old love of writing. My first attempts at novels were written on the kitchen table, often late into the night when my son was asleep or during a few snatched hours when he was out at nursery school.
The first two novels sent off to Harlequin Mills & Boon were rejected, but the third attempt was successful. I can still remember the moment that a letter arrived instead of the rejection slip I had been dreading. I think I must have read it over and over at least a hundred times before the reality of what it said sank in, and for days I kept checking it just to make sure I wasn't dreaming. In 1984, THE CHALK LINE was published just in time to be one of my best Christmas presents ever.
Fitting in hobbies around working and being a wife and mother can be difficult, but I always find time to read. I love all sorts of fiction, especially Romance, obviously. I also enjoy historical novels, detective fiction and long, absorbing biographies about fascinating people and I can spend hours in bookshops just browsing. I enjoy knitting and embroidery, but I rarely get time to do either now that I'm a full-time writer. I also love looking round antique fairs or junk shops, hoping to add to my collection of Victorian embroidery. During my working hours my four cats, all adopted from the RSPCA, usually keep me company in my study, though they have to be dissuaded from sitting on the piles of papers that they are convinced are there just for them.
I love to travel and visit new places, especially places with an interesting history, and I always enjoy visiting old castles or stately homes and imagining how the people who used to live there spent their days.
I'm often asked if I'm a romantic sort of person because I specialise in writing Romances. Well, if being romantic means caring about other people enough to make that extra special effort, then yes, I am. Romance is about making the important people in your life feel valued and letting them know that you care. But I also write about relationships and the difficulties people sometimes have in understanding each other, or expressing affection, or overcoming problems.
Sometimes—when the right words won't come, or an idea hasn't worked out as I'd thought, I wonder why I don't have some regular nine to five job, but when the story's flowing and the characters come alive, I really can't imagine a
That's a perfect example of what happens when a person misinterprets what he sees by reading it incorrectly ! The core conflict in this novel happened because Rose ( heroine ) had seen Nairo ( hero ) in a situation and came to the wrong conclusion that he was a drug pusher. Rose then reported him to the authorities, because she's a good person even though she was in love with him. The entire conflict could've been avoided if Rose had read the scenario carefully and not just jumped to conclusions.
This is for fans of the second chance trope where former teenaged lovers are reunited after 10 long years, but must overcome a mountain of misunderstanding based on Rose's horrible betrayal. The atmosphere of this novel was a bit morose at times and it seemed as if the MC’s were unable to escape from their gloomy shells and embrace their chance at happiness. I had to stop reading this midway and then return to it because the MC's tragic backstory was a little depressing. The author also failed to deliver on the trainwrecky angst factor after the lovers reunited, because the MC's settled on a cordial but boring relationship and postponed the all important discussion they needed to have about Rose's betrayal. There was a lot of drama over the H’s sister’s wedding dress and the author didn’t make me believe it was necessary or realistic. The H’s sister had been an anorexic and he feared that if she didn’t get the wedding dress of her dreams then she would just sink into depression again and stop eating. I’m not a psychologist and definitely no expert on the psychology of an anorexic but I felt this storyline was a bit forced.
The H, was a son of a Spanish aristocrat ( no specific titles were mentioned, but he did live in a castle ) whose slutty stepmother had tried to seduce him when he was 18. His jealous father chose to believe the woman’s lies, kicked out the young H and disinherited him. Nairo made his way to England where he started slumming in his father’s abandoned London townhouse. Rose, the heroine, was only 17 when they met. She had run away from home because her pedophile stepfather wanted to sleep with her. Nairo, who had changed his name to “Jett”, saved Rose from homelessness and starvation by giving her a place to live in the old townhouse. The two teenagers soon started a sexual relationship but the young Rose, who went by the nickname “Scarlett”, became suspicious of the other persons who were squatting in the townhouse. Most of the others were drug users and Rose misinterpreted one scene between Nairo and another girl; the heroine came to the inaccurate conclusion that Nairo was a drug pusher who was forcing the other girl to take drugs. In her youthful zeal to do the right thing, Rose reported Nairo to the police and jilted the H.
Their reunion is predictably bitter because Nairo blames Rose for destroying all his teenage illusions about true love. He had been truly in love with Rose and had been planning to reconcile with his father and save Rose by marrying her. After Rose's betrayal, Nairo had sworn that he'd never allow another woman into his heart again:
When they meet again, Rose is flabbergasted to see that her first love is now a billionaire. They’re still attracted to each other but I think the author’s writing fails to capitalize on this fact. Too much time is spent on trivial technicalities and on the various inner monologues of the MC’s. The inner monologuing annoyed me a little because the MC’s kept thinking about the same things repeatedly. Some authors are able to use this medium effectively but this novel was not such an instance. It was a nice story but it didn't bowl me over and some parts of the storyline needed to be melded into the plot in a smoother fashion by the author. It was a storyline with a lot of potential but the author's style of writing proved to be a bit of a liability because the tone of the novel was always a bit sombre. The sex scenes were also written a bit mechanically too because I didn't exactly feel the MC's chemistry or passion.
I ended up giving this 2.5 stars because the H wasn't an asshole. Nairo was actually quite sensible and he was quick to forgive Rose after she'd explained why she'd reported him to police. In fact, he'd told her that he understood why she had drawn inaccurate conclusions. Nairo was definitely nicer than the usual guys who inhabit HPlandia. He was a bit of a beta H though.
Safety: There's no cheating when they're reunited after 10 years apart. However, the H had not been celibate during this decade. The heroine had been engaged to another man but had never slept with him. She'd been celibate for the entire decade. I suppose this latter point might be a turn off for some readers.
This is the H, Nairo:
This is the heroine, Rose:

Dnf page 26. Backstory details vague. I don't like mystery surrounding hero & heroine. Chapter 1...not feeling the story or the chemistry. Clinical storytelling fail.
This one kept me turning the pages first loves are never forgotten and what romances are about, a beautifully written story that will bring two people who have been through so much back together for a beautiful HEA. Rose Cavalliero is a dress designer and she has worked hard to get there she has had a lot of ups and downs in her life and some only recently so she is looking forward to the appointment with a wealthy Spaniard Nairo Moreno with the hope of designing a wedding dress for his sister but Rose is stunned when this man turns out to be the one person that she gave everything to a long time ago and has never forgotten. Nairo has had a tough life when he was younger but has turned his life around with hard work and now will do anything for his sister even if that means returning to England to hire the designer she requests for her wedding dress. England holds a lot of memories for Nairo some good some not so good but there was one person that he has never forgotten and now he will do what he has to, to bring her to Spain with him to design the special dress. This is a story that is heart-warming emotional and very sensual as Rose and Nairo or Red and Jett come to terms with their pasts, open up to each other about misunderstandings that had happened and then fall back in love. I love lovers reunited stories and this is one that I highly recommend MS Walker has bought all of the characters to life on the pages sit back and enjoy you will not want to put this one down yes I was smiling and sighing.

INDEBTED TO MORENO is a heart-touching tale about second chances and past regrets. Author Kate Walker brought this emotionally tortured and betrayed hero Nairo, whom readers would love. And a very strong heroine in Rose who takes the challenges life throws at her and still manages to move on.
Trust is the culprit that breaks up relationships. It is the same for Nairo Moreno and Rose Cavalliero. Due to a misunderstanding, they are torn apart. However, Rose is willing to work with Nairo to create a dream wedding gown for Nairo’s sister since working on this dress would bolster her career as a top designer. What she hadn’t bargained on was Nairo blackmailing her to do his will!
Overall, Indebted to Moreno by Kate Walker is full of angst, drama and tension. The cast of characters were flawed yet had depth. Meanwhile, a believable storyline, crisp dialogue, vivid scenes and good storytelling by Ms. Walker makes for an entertaining read.
Indebted to Moreno by Katie Walker is a beautiful love story where two young lovers foolishly let love slip through their fingers by not trusting in each other. Ten years later, they meet again when Nairo approaches Rose to design his sister’s wedding dress. Needless to say, they were both surprised by the meeting as they didn’t expect to meet ever again.
Rose grew from a frightened young girl to a sought after designer running her own business and Nairo was not who Rose thought he was! They both turn out to be braver this time around, trusting each other and not being afraid to grab their chance at love.
Katie Walker delivered a great story and I would recommend her books to any romance lover!

A Truly absorbing read!! This was a hugely enjoyable MODERN /PRESENTS, by an author with an confident touch who presented the reader with a hero / heroine with challenging issues that were indicative of their circumstances and as a hallmark of her experience spun it into a traditional romance with all the ingredients fans of MODERN have come to expect from this series. Spanish heroes have always been popular, and Nairo Moreno more than fitted the mould of what you anticipate MODERN hero will be like. This is a masterclass in how romance should be written!!
Misunderstandings abound in this tale of two lovers who've endured myriad difficulties in the ten years they've known each other. True love wins out though. Really a 3.5.
A searingly emotional tale of old wounds, past mistakes, second chances and new beginnings, in her 65th book, Indebted to Moreno, Harlequin Presents legend Kate Walker once again proves that when it comes to writing heart-stopping page-turners, she has no equal!
As a teenager, Rose Cavalliero had been lonely, frightened and vulnerable. Forced out of her home by her lecherous stepfather, Rose had left the only home she had ever known and sought solace in a squat, miles away from everything and everyone she knew. Despite her insalubrious surroundings, Rose had found a happiness she had never known before for she had found herself falling head over heels in love with a brooding stranger called Jett. However, when Rose had realised that Jett was not who she thought him to be, she had packed her bags and vowed never to set eyes on the man she had fallen in love with ever again.
Many years had passed since that fateful night when Rose had walked out of the squat and out of Jett’s life. No longer the insecure teenager, Rose is now a wedding dress designer who would love nothing more than to make a success out of her passion for dressmaking – even though all the odds are stacked against her. When she hears that she is in the running to design a wedding dress for a high society wedding, she is absolutely thrilled. All she has to do is convince the bride’s brother, arrogant Spaniard Nairo Moreno that she is the right woman for the job. But when Nairo steps through the door of her shop, Rose is absolutely floored when she claps eyes on the man who had taken her virginity and stolen her heart all those years ago. It turns out that Jett, the man she had never managed to vanquish out of her heart, and Nairo Moreno are one and the same person and all those feelings which Rose had struggled to keep buttoned up come flooding back with a vengeance.
Nairo has never quite forgiven Rose for betraying him in that manner – nor has he ever managed to forget the only woman who had managed to get under his skin. With his sister’s wedding throwing him back in close proximity with her, Nairo vows to keep his distance and his heart firmly under lock and key. However, with that old flame of desire still burning brightly between them, Nairo soon realises that that is easier said than done.
Nairo is not about to let Rose slip through his fingers a second time, but has too much water gone under the bridge for the two of them to be happy ever again?
Scintillating, sensuous and absolutely irresistible, Indebted to Moreno is a fabulous story that plucks at the heartstrings, keeps readers on the edge of their seat and up all night eagerly turning the pages of this powerful, poignant and hugely enjoyable tale of forbidden desire, dangerous temptation and healing from the past. Kate Walker is on top form with this marvellous tale of secrets and seduction and I defy anyone not to fall in love with the dangerously handsome Nairo and determined Rosie.
A terrific story from one of the best writers in the business, Indebted to Moreno is another first class read from one of the finest writers of category romance writing today – Kate Walker.
The superb storytelling skills of author Kate Walker are richly displayed in “Indebted to Moreno”, a stirring and passionate contemporary romance. Rose Cavalliero is a talented dress designer, working to firmly establish her business while caring for her ailing mother. Heartaches from the past have left Rose determined to make their future secure, and she needs a spectacular wedding commission to put her name and business at the top of the list of sought-after designers. A potential new client from an aristocratic Spanish family would seem to be the key to making her dreams come true. However, the family member who visits her shop is not the bride to be, but her brother, Nairo Moreno, the man who stole Rose’s heart and innocence a decade ago. Nairo is as shocked as Rose by their unexpected reunion—he had no idea that the young woman he had known as “Red” had now become the designer whom his sister wanted to create her wedding gown. As a young man, Nairo had tried to escape his own family issues, living in a poor section of London, and going by the name of “Jett”. He and Rose had met under trying circumstances, each on the run from their true identities, and their youthful passion was too powerful to resist. A misunderstanding had led Rose to betray Nairo all those years ago, and the emotions between them are turbulent and full of mistrust. Nairo is very devoted to his sister, though, and he vows to see that her wishes for a perfect wedding come true at all costs—even if his personal cost is high. He makes it all too clear that Rose has no choice but to accept his offer, but will she once again give him the heart he broke so long ago? The passion between them is more potent than ever, but is a lasting love possible for these two seeking spirits? “Indebted to Moreno” is highly recommended for lovers of grand romantic tales filled with deep emotions, undeniable desire, and the love of a lifetime.
Dress designer Rose Cavelliero watched as a man she thought she would never see again walking into her shop. Tall, dark, handsome and dangerous Spaniard Nairo Moreno. Rose and Nairo knew each other but not with those names. Rose went by Red and Nairo by Jett. They were both running off after their families either rejected them or caused issues that they could no longer live at home. However now they were both different people. Nairo was there to at Rose’s shop to have Rose design a wedding gown for his sister. His sister was not up to the trip and so he came alone. Rose did not know what to do. However, he is back in her life to collect on a debt she owes him. On one hand designing the wedding gown for his sister would make a name for her designs. But could she do it. Rose was engaged however but broke the engagement a few days prior to the wedding. Rose had a bridal show and did not realize that Nairo stood in the back. Only male with otherwise all females. A gal from the news media pointed out that it was something that she (Rose) would be making bridal dresses considering she had ran out on her husband to be. Causing a disturbance at the show but Nairo stepped forward stating he would hire her to do his sisters dress. Kate Walker deserved more than 5 stars for the story as it was interesting and held me interest.
Long lost lovers find their way back to each other in a round-about way in Kate Walker's latest novel!
Rose Cavalliero is working hard to keep her fashion business afloat while caring for her sick mother when the last person she ever thought she'd see again shows up in her office demanding she work for him.
Nairo Moreno had no clue the dress designer his younger sister has her heart set on for her upcoming wedding is the same woman he knew in what feels like a past life. He believes she betrayed him, and uses all that he knows against her to blackmail her into coming back to Spain with him to work with his sister.
The more time they spend in each other's company, the more their old feelings flare back up. Will they take the time to actually listen to each other's side of the story and figure out that it was sadly a huge misunderstanding that took them from each other?
On trembling legs, dress designer Rose Cavalliero stares up at the man she never thought she'd see again. The heroine was fiesty and bold despite some degree of naivety, in her ignorance to make things right with the law and protection of humanity she caused to downfall of the only man she truly loved. As a result they lost each other over time. finding each other was a defense for both of them. Both grew up but not out of love . they were willing to sacrifice thinking that it would make the other happy but in turn misery loves company. I wanted more emotions in the end. However I did get teary eyed when they were evasive and in self denial hoping to shroud themselves from pain.
"Indebted to Moreno" by Kate Walker is a feel good, classic romance with lovers from the past finding their way toward each other again. Red, Rose Cavalliero, is designing a dress for Nairo Moreno's (known as Jett in another time) sisters wedding. It doesn't help that her own failed walk down the aisle has everyone questioning her, and feelings that should be buried away are coming out. Dealing with their past in the midst of trying to work together proves challenging.
I tend to enjoy romances where people get a second chance at love. This one was written well, and the characters are interesting. I tend to feel frustrated by books where there are many and chronic verbal misunderstandings I'm on characters. That is the one area where this book was a little disappointing. Still, I did enjoy this book.
