Violet Drummond can't face another office Christmas party as a singleton, but charismatic family friend Cameron McKinnon seems like the perfectly platonic "plus one" for the festive season. Until he reveals his plan to make Violet his convenient fiancée!
Wealthy architect Cameron sees this charade as the perfect escape hatch from the unwelcome attention of an important client's wife, but soon fake feelings shift to real attraction…
There's only one thing Cameron wants to unwrap on Christmas morning—the staid suit from Violet's lush body—and he's willing to push the boundaries of their agreement to accommodate his growing desire…
I grew up on a small farm on the outskirts of Sydney and as a keen horse rider, often competed in local gymkhanas and even broke in a few horses from time to time. As I was surrounded by animals, I decided at an early age to become a nurse, however I couldn’t stand the sight of blood and so opted for a career in teaching. It’s a bit ironic that I married a surgeon.
I read my first Mills & Boon novel when I was 17 and that encouraged me to continue reading romance novels; the lure of the tall dark handsome hero, who in reality I fell in love with and knew I was going to marry on our second date! After marrying a year later, we moved to Scotland with our six week old baby so my husband could work and study for his MD in surgery. After the birth of our second son we came back to Australia to settle in Tasmania.
I went back to University and up-graded my teaching diploma to a degree and then went on to do a Masters but still I felt as if something was missing. I sat down one day and began writing and everything clicked into place - I had finally found ‘my brilliant career’! I used to write from instinct rather than a specific plan, but now, so many books later I find a loose plan doesn't go astray. An idea will pop into my head, sometimes it will be just a simple phrase or a what if question and I'm away.
Writing is a skill that can be learned and the best way to learn it is to read and to write. So many people feel they have a novel in them and very probably they are right-the only trick is to get it out. My advice to ‘would be’ writers is to write, write, and write even more. Carry a notebook at all times and jot down ideas. And like any other activity the more you do, the more it feels comfortable.
I hope you enjoy my stories and look forward to hearing from you.
Violent Drummond needs a date to go to the annual office Christmas party. Cameron McKinnon is trying to reject the advances of his rich client’s wife. Old friends Cam and Violet decide to help each other out by pretending to temporarily act like a couple in love. But friendship quickly turns to attraction.
This was a friends-to-lovers romance that got spoiled by the heroine. Violet was sweet and shy at the beginning, but as the book progressed, she became selfish and had to have things her way, with no consideration for the wonderful hero, Cam. I didn’t care for the way she pressured Cam into marriage at the end, when he wasn’t ready yet, due to his parents and their previous bad marriages. Cam would have come around, but needed a little time. Cam was a naval architect, who was thoughtful and protective of Violet. He deserved a better heroine.
seriously? is this what Harlequin Presents has come to? heroine having a foursome with 3 men? but of course she was drunk when it happened so no problem. I am not surprised this author wrote something like this to be honest. I like her writing style but she is far too modern for me.
MS Milburne has a way with words that will draw the reader into a world of love happiness and of course some ups and downs along the way and this one is fabulous.
Violet Drummond is Scottish and comes from such a loving family her siblings are happily married and her parents still so much in love but sadly Violet is still single and she would love nothing more than to find the one, the one man that will melt her heart and give her what she has always wanted and maybe that person has been there for a long time and now things may change when family friend Cameron steps up to escort her to her office Christmas party.
Cameron McKinnon has come from a family that is hopeless with commitment and showing love so he has decided that staying single will be for him he is a very talented yacht designer and spends a lot of his time with his best friend's family the Drummonds but when he meets Violet in a coffee shop and after chatting suddenly offers to help her out with a date if she in turn helps him things are about to change in such a good way.
This is a beautifully written story about friends to lovers who step up to help each other and then end up engaged temporarily the spark between them grows till neither can deny it anymore but of course the road to a HEA has its ups and downs and I loved the banter between Violet and Cameron and the caring that both showed for each other and the family members. Truly this is such a great story sensual and moving and of course the setting is awesome Christmas Scotland and London do yourself a favour pick this one up and make yourself comfortable because you won't want to put it down.
I am with the previous reviewer, Jenny. What the heck is Harlequin publishing these days? I've been a long time Harlequin romance reader, but what they are printing & publishing is a new low for them! I am so disgusted with this one that I could barely finish more then a few pages and couldn't even write the backstory here at this review because honestly I could not recommend this book at all!
When I heard that this book was a friends to lovers story I was really excited to read this book, however I quickly found out that it wasn't a friends to lover but more older brother's best friend story, which is slightly different. And though Violet and Cam were family friends they didn't have that best friends vibe that I was expecting so I was a little disappointed not gonna lie. But it did create the complication as well as created a backstory between the two. I liked they weren't strangers and they had a foundation to begin with.
With that being said the whole best friends older brother trope didn't feel like an overwhelming obstacle in this book compared to other books I have read with that same trope. It was there a bit, but just quickly brushed aside.
I was also disappointed with the lack of angst and intensity in this book. This could have been a crazy intense book with all the issues going between their histories as well as her past where she endured something truly horrific. That alone should have upped the intensity alone. It did explain her issues and why she was the way that she was, but I felt that once I found out the secret it was kind of glossed over and I don't know if it should have been. I think there should have been more of a struggle for her and actually being intimate with anyone. I get that she trusted and loved Cam, but I think it should have been a process that she went through with him on her role to healing. It was like it was put out there then they went to bed and the issue just disappeared. It was realistic. There needed to be more time and more build up before they hopped into bed I think. It would be better and more poignant when they finally went all the way. I needed the building blocks there. That would have increased both the intensity and angst to the story.
The angst was barely nonexistent. It was too easy for them to get together. There were no significant obstacles in their way. I should have been gutted by this story especially with the subject matter and I just wasn't. I didn't feel what I wanted to feel. I just wanted the story to dig deeper. This story had so much potential to do that and just didn't.
Now from above the comments you would think I didn't like this book and wonder why I gave it four stars. The fact was I did like it, and I just didn't think it deserved a three stars. I have a read a lot of three stars book this wasn't it. I didn't love the book, but I enjoyed it. It was a nice, quick read with the Christmasy theme.
I really did love the characters in this story. My heart hurt for both of them and what they went through in their pasts.
I loved Cam. He was so sweet and caring. He really thought of her needs and put her in front of himself. He never wanted to hurt her and was very clear and upfront what was to be expected of their relationship. He feared hurting which was why he vowed not to get involved. He wasn't a jerk at any time. He was a character I easily rooted for.
I enjoyed the love scenes in this story. It was truly about their connection and feelings towards one another. They were sexy. They were tender. There were hot as hell, showing how much passion was between them. They wee the highlight of the book because I felt during those scenes. Do I wish there was more build up between them? Yes. Do I wish they worked up to them a little bit more considering her past? Yes. I would have enjoyed it more if they took their time in the sensual arts to make it easier for her. Like have a few foreplay scenes then go all the way, but they were still very enjoyable to see them play out on the page.
I was just looking for a little bit more intensity and edge to this book than I got. I wanted more angst between them. It just needed to go deeper for me. I was slightly disappointed that there wasn't that edge that the best friends older theme that they usually have but that barely seemed to be issue here. I just needed more punch. But I did enjoy the characters and the passion that they shared making the story enjoyable and worth reading in the end.

Sparks fly, things happen and before you know it decisions have to be made. So be prepared to be swept away and possibly worn the pages along the way...because you won't be able to put this book down! The story is fabulous and the author did a fine job wielding her pen with meticulous precision and bringing her characters to life along with every other finer detail. And the dialogue...it has weight of its own. So grab a copy, curl up in a cosy seat and enjoy.
Violet Drummond has a problem she doesn't want to go the company Christmas party alone again but must go. Mulling it over who appears but her brothers best friend Cameron McKinnon. After a few words he offers to take her to the party and she will in turn be his guest at an affair which will help him keep a clients wife away. Sounds simple, friends helping each other out except what starts out as fake ends up differently. Cameron's parents past weighs heavy on him and he feels all relationships fail, but could this one be different, especially since he has always had feelings for Violet. Ms. Milburne always delivers a wonderful story and this is just another lovely one for the keeper shelf.
I really enjoyed this friends-to-lovers story! The characters are great and really draw you into their relationship right from the start and have you pulling for their happily ever after!
Violet Drummond just can't stand the thought of yet another office Christmas party by herself, so when she runs into family friend Cameron McKinnon who is also looking for a hand, they agree to accompany one another to their events as a "couple".
Cam loves Violet's big, loving family more than his own stilted one. Their ploy is only meant to be a couple of dates, but then it turns into a fake engagement and a gentle love affair in the blink of an eye!
Will true love be able to overcome the doubts and stubborn hearts to bring a happy ending to these friends?
Amazingly sweet friends to lovers story. Violet and Cameron, her brother's best friend, went into an agreement to pretend to be engaged for her office party and to keep his client's thirsty wife from trying to jump his bones. What was supposed to be pretend turned into a whole lot more.
Loved Violet. She's sweet, shy and survived an awful experience in college that made her leery of parties and drunk men. Cam's reaction to her experience made me adore him. He's a great guy with lots of hang ups because of his demented parents.
I had a hard time putting this one down. A great read for the holiday season.
This is Melanie's second book up for Ruby award and another wonderful delightful read. I loved Violet and Cam so much. Friends to lover’s story. Facing another Christmas party on her own, terrified Violet. Then she bumps into Cameron, her older brother's best friend and after some misunderstanding, not wanting a pity date, she first said no at his offer to attend with her. He also needed her help to keep a very important client's wife sniffing around him like a filly on heat. It was meant to be helping each other out; however, something had been simmering under the surface for years. Also there were problems that needed to be overcome. Something from her past. His family history that left him cold and alone. He only ever had her family to know real love and what a loving family is all about. Sometimes that kind of love can also put pressure of wanting to live up to the perfect family. Two lost souls, both with painful pasts. Also, how some people treat you, and what they do, they don't care the impact they have on others, because they only care about themselves. That they got trapped into an engagement until Christmas...... Fun read, also so sad. One family from hell, and one from heaven. Loved this so much. I love the way Melanie's writes. A true storyteller.
A sweet transition from untouchable to can’t keep his hands off her. Cam had known Violet for many years as his friend‘s little sister, until the day he saw her in a different light and had then avoided her. One day he runs into her at a coffee shop and the attraction is back in full force. In an agreement to assist each other they end up in a fake engagement. Will Cam’s dysfunctional family turn him from the best thing that happened to him or will he see what is in front of him.
The chemistry between Cam and Violet was amazing. The "fix-up" for her work colleague, at the end of the book, was a nice touch. As usual I would like to know what babies were born to which ever character mentioned throughout the story. I loved the puns or cliches or whatever they are called. "Putting Lipstick on a pig". hahahaha But his father........YUCK.
Now this one is my absolute favorite Christmas story - so far. Maybe because I think it a bit more believable because the heroes already knew each other and had a life long friendship. However, it felt too short - I would have liked to have more time with these characters. Still lovely. Will tag it for a re-read.
Violet (Vivi) is the youngest of 4 siblings and the only single one at almost 30.She has parents and a grandfather .Violet dreads the annual office Christmas party because she has no partner.A chance meeting with Cam changes it. Cameron (Cam) as a university friend of her brother's, someone Violet has known for years. (We know he is an architect ,but this aspect doesn't show in the book).Cam suggests he comes to the office party ,while Violet joins him at his father Ross's 5th wedding. But now everyone think they are engaged... After Ross's wedding (and Cam getting an important contract) the 'engaged" pair have a talk.Violet dreams of weddings and babies, but Cam is all against it, being the child of divorced parents and seeing his father marrying again and again.Violet is hurt and goes to her family home in the Highlands. Violet sees Cam's insecurity and inability to commit. It takes him some time to realize Violet is right.
Fate had a hand in placing Violet and Cameron in the same coffee shop, after chatting they learn they both have events they have to go but don't want to for various reasons. Cameron is her brother's childhood best friend and Violet feels safe in his company, but things get out of control for other reasons I can't share without giving away the story and next thing Cameron has a convenient fiancee.
A lovely story which is reminiscent of the Heartwarming category. I like how the two have always been friends and i like how their relationship bloomed. There was drama in among it all and lots going on that kept my attention.
Highly recommended for book lovers who dont always want to read about angst and revenge and just want a lovely book to settle down with to take some time out!
I do love Melanie Milburne's books. She writes such passionate stories, with alpha men who have a sensitive side. Violet and Cameron meet in a coffee shop. Cameron is an old family friend, best friends with Violets brother. As they are chatting they realise they both have a dillema, the other person could solve. Violet is sick of being the only singleton at her works Christmas party. While Cameron is in the middle of negotiations for a big work contract. Unfortunately the clients wife, keeps coming on to him. They both need a partner for the occasion. The next thing you know Violet has suddenly become his fiancee. Cameron has had a very dysfunctional upbringing. Neither parent taking marriage very seriously. This has left Cam with an aversion to marriage. He believes he cant do forever because his parents cant. This leads to alot of pulling away from Violet. Can he work through his demons to give Violet the happily ever after she deserves?
In Unwrapping His Convenient Fiancée by Melanie Milburne, Violet Drummond is a woman who does not like being in the spotlight. A bad experience when she was 20 caused Violet to retreat into her shell and no man has managed to draw her out yet. The only guy other than family that Violet allows close to her is her brother’s best friend Cameron McKinnon. Cameron is commitment phobic because of his parent’s terrible relationships choices.
By chance the two run in to each other in a coffee shop and decide they can help each other out by pretending to be engaged. Feelings escalate between them and soon they can’t distinguish between fantasy and reality.
Melanie Milburne does not disappoint! This is a thoroughly enjoyable book and I recommend it to any romance lover. It is a lovely story of friendship and trust developing into deep and enduring love.
Unwrapping His Convenient Fiancée by Melanie Milburne Melanie Milburne writes fantastic books, you will not want to put it down and every now and then I find something in one that hits me and it is like she wrote those lines about me. Violet Drummond had some bad experience back in college and since then she doesn’t date and she is has this invitation with a “plus one” for this holiday season. Cameron McKinnon has known the Drummond family for a long time. He is friends with one other Violet’s brothers. Now Cameron never till this past Easter looked at Violet as anything other than his friend’s sister. Cameron agrees to Violet asking to go to that party if she will agree to meet one of his clients since the client’s wife has roaming eyes on him.
UNWRAPPING HIS CONVENIENT FIANCEE by author Melanie Milburne is a November 2016 release by Harlequin Presents series.
Violet Drummond wanted it all. A proper love and commitment to a relationship. So would being Cameron McKinnon’s fake fiancée be enough for her?
Cam didn’t want marriage and commitment but could he open his heart to the possibility of a happy-ever-after with Violet?

Violet's past makes her dread the office Christmas party more than you usually dread them. Cameron is a family friend and should make the perfect platonic "plus one" and he needs help to so it is a win-win situation until things get out of hand and a fake engagement happens. Plans are meant to be flexible but that flexible? Not usually but the two try to make it work. Only it gets more and more complicated and emotionally time-bombed with each page turned. Fun read. ~ Kim
"Unwrapping His Convenient Fiancee" by Melanie Milburne is a wonderful, quick , classic read. Violet Drummond is tired of being the one person at a party without an escort. She runs into an old family friend, Cameron McKinnon, they find that they can help each other out by being dates for events that they need to attend. The only problem is that make believe becomes more real life and the two find themselves drawn to each other.
Excellent book. beautifully written and interesting story with some fun parts and dramatic parts. Set around Christmas in London and Scotland. Lots of 'steam'.
