One of the last books completed by Traleg Kyabgon before he passed away. A translation of a classic manual on meditation. Not exactly for the beginner, but accessible to the intermediate. Chiefly aimed at the advanced meditation practitioner. Quite a long, dense tomb with some culturally specific material to Tibetan Buddhism. Overall, exceptionally instructive, with high levels of clarity and conceptual sophistication. Guides the serious meditator through some of the common pitfalls that 'mindfulness lite' teachers of meditation will not tell you, and probably don't know about meditation.
I am a huge fan of science and reason, and for the atheist, there could be some jarring passages in this, however for the initiated, this kind of work illustrates how far advanced the Himalayan sciences of the mind are beyond western empiricism.
Provides both a cognitive framework for orienting ones own mind to reality, and an ethical framework for reflecting on the value and significance of experiencing a human life.
