Taylor Adams just wants to get her feet under her again and move on with her life following a failed relationship. But when her feet put her on a mountain path on Palomar Mountain in Cleveland National Forest, an hour from her San Diego home, she finds her new path leading her directly into an out-of-control wildfire.
Tanner Davis isn't looking for a relationship. He's actually trying to avoid falling into any and he's been successful so far. Ever since his SEAL team suffered high casualties during an antiterrorist mission, they've been reclassified as a reservist team and Tanner with four of his buddies is now running SEArch & Rescue out of San Diego. When an old acquaintance from the military calls trapped in the wildfire with the Forest Ranger teams spread too thin to even be aware there are hikers in the area, Tanner finds himself searching for the lost hiker and her Labrador in the midst of the fire.
When Taylor and Tanner come together the flames begin in earnest. But will two loners, both recently hurt and both leery of relationships, find a future together? Or will the fire burn out in record time?
Sooooo I liked the book but Taylor? She's an idiot. This, all of her, is exactly why I don't read the "new adult" genre. If her character had been a smidge more mature this would've definitely gotten a better review. I did enjoy the writing for the male characters & their backgrounds.
Also has the author ever been around a helicopter before? The scene with the H/h in the helicopter is completely unbelievable, coming from an air medical dispatcher. Seems like the scenes were either poorly researched or just thrown together.
I do not like stories where they end and leave you dissatisfied. I liked the characters, especially Monster the Labrador. There was no world building and very little discription of Taylor other than she is blonde. I don't think think I will be reading the rest of the books I bought.
4 stars because of the editing. It just ruins the vibes when the language doesn't flow like it is intended. As the book progressed it got better. Cute story. I'm not sure that was what she was aiming for but in the navy seal category this book took a different turn. And I liked it.
Poorly written and super rushed. Then a super abrupt ending. I would not recommend this book. I didn't connect to the characters and Taylor just seems really dumb and immature.

I loved the grittiness and reality of the book. Not every relationship is easy and people make mistakes. Tanner has seen significant others hurt when their loved once must leave suddenly and the fog of the unknown while they are away. He does not want to have anyone left behind, hurting when he is lost on a mission. Taylor tries to convince him that this a reality and someone, maybe even her, is willing to adjust and love him enough to wait. I almost did not finish because I feared the ending when they were still having issues at over 90% of the book done. An epilogue would be nice or a few more chapters to wrap things up.
I read the whole book and was honestly surprised when I realized I had reached the end of the book. The ending was very abrupt and the whole book I was waiting for something to happen to push the story forward but that never really happened. The writing was okay, but fell a bit flat for me. I didn't feel a real connection with the characters.
I wanted to like this one more than I did. I couldn't seem to relate to the main characters. If you are looking a quick read with action and a HFN ending, you will enjoy this one.
Found this to be a very different book from the usual Rachel writes. The beginning held some suspense and was interesting but unfortunately found it got a little boring half way through. I really enjoy Rachel's book, but this one did not do it for me. Sorry Rachel.
What happens when a Seal goes to PT in the same building as a volunteer goes to help handicapped children? Tanner and Taylor collide in an elevator. Their romance is hot and sexy but will it last. This book will keep you guessing. Enjoy!
I was really enjoying this book until the last chapter. The last chapter was very rushed, almost like the author wanted to just get it over with. I don't feel like the ending was an HFN or an HEA it just kinda fell flat for me.
These stories were on Amazon for .99 so since I love military romance I bought them. I was really let down on the ending of book 1. Very abrupt kind of just dangling in the wind. Since I have book 2 I am hoping it is better or at least wraps up the romance from book 1.
I enjoyed this book, I hope Rachel continues with their story in the next book. This is not a deep read, but a fun one! I have enjoyed her other series and I hope this one will be a good one too.
I was absolutely 100% involved with the story and the action. Then he comes back and a HEA umm what?!? The back and forth I didn't mind however the not clearing the air and getting back together unnerved me. Oh well next
In about quit this book. My thing is seals can't give direct information but he can tell her he got recalled or something not leave like bat man. That's why girlfriends and wives leave special forces. But cute story
This book had such potential. It is filled with grammatical errors, and repetitiveness. The ending is great, the beginning is slow. I hope the books get better.
