Reading Marry Me on Main Street made me feel like I was cuddling up with a mug of hot chocolate because it was so sugary sweet and full of Christmas cheer! If you looking for a charming novel with a fluffy romance and little to no angst, then this is the book for you! I was definitely in the mood for that, so this book really hit the spot for me.
One of the things I loved about this book was the setting. The town that this book takes place in is simply adorable. With the scenery the author described and the townspeople, it sort of reminded me of Starshollow from Gilmore Girls . The town was so quaint and charming! I would love to live there and interact with all of the interesting people that inhabit the town. I was happy that there were even some chapters told from the POVs of some of those townspeople!
The two main characters, Danny and Susan, were simply adorable. I thought they made such a precious couple. They were both so cute and almost dorky around each other. Susan was shy and sort of quirky, and I loved how Danny found those attributes to be adorable. Danny was charming and so swoon worthy. He charmed the pants off of me. I could go on and on about how cute of a couple Susan and Danny made. I really enjoyed watching their relationship develop. My main complaint with their relationship is that I felt like they got to the "I love you" stage a little too early. I would have preferred to see that later in the book.
I was pleasantly surprised with this book. I wasn't expecting this book to be as addictive as it was. There was just something so captivating about the author's writing. I felt like everything from the dialogue to the description of the shops in the town pulled me in. However, some of the scenes and storylines in this book did feel a little redundant. For example, Danny "saved" Susan so many times that it started to become a bit ridiculous. I thought it was cute the first time, but I thought it became almost predictable and it started to loose its charm. Some of the chapters were a little slower than others, but I still could not put this book down!
Overall, I thought this was a sweet and charming novel. If you are looking for a cute romance novel with set in an idyllic small town, then this is the book for you!

Marry Me on Main Street was the epitome of the sweet, feel good romance. Although it had its share of miscommunications, and missed opportunities, it was never overly angsty or dramatic. It had a delightful cast of believable characters, all adult and mature in their own right.
Watching two women who come from very different lives navigate a beautiful friendship as they try to find romance was like spending time with my own friends.
"I’ll just have water.” “You sure?” “Yeah, a splash with ice and bourbon.”
Seriuosly, I could definitely hang with these ladies!
"I think something magical might have happened when we danced in the snow.” “Yeah, it was called bourbon.”
It pulled in the magic of a small town at Christmas, complete with families and neighbors that all know each other and come together to make magic happen during the most special time of year. Add in a little steamy, snowed in action and this pulled together to be chock full of my favorite tropes! The romance was a bit on the insta-love side, but never felt unbelievable because these adults actually communicated with each other, and had a bit of an unrequited history together.
"Oh wow…I’m in love. The realization hit Susan like a bright white shooting star racing across the sky. Not just in love but head-over-heels-no-holds-barred-no-use-denying-it in love.”
This was a great surprise, finding such a feel good romance that was so simple in its portrayal of small town love. A delight! ~ George

Cricket Creek continues to be a favorite slow soft hearted sweet heart town kind of read for me. Which is sort of perfect around the holidays because you can curl up with your mug of coffee and disappear in a blanket and the Creek for awhile in complete comfort. Cricket Creek kind of reminds me of a General Hospital small town everyone is connected, lots of love possibilities, everyone has ties to the town and its history and you always land with small time drama in the past that finds its way into the present where we find Susan and Danny. I loved everything about both of them and I loved them together.I loved the smiles, I loved the sweetness, I loved the whole pull you in and make a home feeling Creek gives me. I loved this book, it totally won my heart. Side note: I loved the cover art on this book. Looks like a Thomas Kinkade painting. Beautiful.

Marry Me on Main Street is a super cute romance that’s sure to get you in the holiday spirit. LuAnn McLane’s eleventh Cricket Creek novel is a fast-paced, cheerful addition to the series and it’s a book that’s perfect to curl up with when you’re in the mood for something uplifting.
Danny is one of my favorite Cricket Creek heroes. He’s so kind, generous, patient, and warm-hearted that you wish he were real so you could snap him up. Danny’s biggest flaw is that he’s almost too giving, sacrificing his dream of woodworking in order to run his parents’ business and help his siblings run their own. Lately it’s been starting to wear on him and he feels like he doesn’t have his life together. For me, Danny’s internal struggle – whether to stay the course and not rock the boat or to go for his dreams – was the highlight of the book. It was relatable, interesting, and had me invested in the story from beginning to end. As for Susan, she’s a likeable heroine who is a little shy, somewhat insecure, and a bit slapstick klutzy. Susan didn’t grab my attention the way some other Cricket Creek heroines have, which was a pity because when I like a hero as much as I liked Danny, I want to be equally intrigued by their heroine. That’s not to say the romance was bad – far from it. After the first third of the book, Danny and Susan have a fast-paced, sweet romance. The only drama that comes in is manufactured by Susan, and it did make me want to shake her a couple of times. Given that Danny is the kind of hero who wears his feelings openly, Susan’s fears and avoidance tactics didn’t feel organic. Still, while I had a couple of issues, their romance is charming and lively for the most part, and by the end of the book the two of them had me grinning.
As with all of the Cricket Creek stories I’ve read, there’s a secondary romance, this one involving Susan’s friend and employee, Betsy, and the handsome former-lawyer-turned-deli-owner, John. Betsy and John’s romance was lovely and understated, but sometimes felt a bit too similar to the main love story. Both of them had interesting potential backstories that – had they been better fleshed out – would have made them shine and stand apart from the younger couple.
Marry Me on Main Street is a story of facing your fears and taking a chance on love. And what better, safer place can there be to do so than in Cricket Creek? The idyllic small Kentucky town is a character in and of itself in this series and it’s always a delight. If the town and its residents sometimes come off as too good to be true, then that’s okay. Once in a while it’s nice to take a break from the real world and enjoy something sweet, and Marry Me on Main Street fits the bill perfectly.
FTC Disclosure: I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
This is my first read from LuAnn McLane, and I have been wanting to try her for a while. So I obviously have not read the prior Cricket Creek novels, but I felt like I tripped along just fine without feeling too lost about prior stories/characters. Other couples did pop up or get mentioned in this story, which I suspect were the main characters in prior books... but enough info was provided to give me an idea of who they were.
This was a sweet holiday romance that really put me in the Christmas spirit and made me want to curl up in a log cabin before a big ol' fire with some hot chocolate. I loved the setting of small town Kentucky, and Cricket Creek seems like such a wonderful place to live. The cutesy business names were great and you could just tell that Cricket Creek had a lot of character and a wonderful community. This story was really a dual romance offering something for two age groups (almost-30s and almost-50s). The main heroine was Susan Quincy, the shy and awkward owner of a thrift shop named Rhyme and Reason. Susan's klutzy and awkward behavior was endearing and had me laughing out loud at times. She did borrow trouble unnecessarily and sometimes her insecurities were a bit much, but she was a genuinely good person that you couldn't really not like. Susan's assistant at Rhyme and Reason, Betsy Brock, was a secondary character that was also getting romantically involved. Betsy was a single mom that was a firecracker for the most part, but also had some insecurities from her failed marriage. Now that her daughter is off in college, Betsy was feeling lonely and had a little crush on the business owner next door. However, Betsy didn't think she could measure up to her crush's younger ex-wife and his former big city life and education. Betsy's outgoing nature was a good counterpoint to Susan's shyness, and I liked that they were paired together as friends and co-workers.
The main hero was Danny Mayfield, a good ol' down-home chivalrous country boy. He suffered from middle child syndrome and was having a bit of an existential crisis... thinking that he was the unsuccessful one in the family, but also being afraid to get out there and try his own thing. I liked that he was a talented wood worker, and his talent totally fit into the town of Cricket Creek. I want one of his rocking chairs! Danny was dedicated to his family. but felt guilty that his work with and for them left him feeling unfulfilled. He really thought that he would have his life figured out by the time he was 30, and I could relate to that. The secondary male character paired up with Betsy was John Clark, former big city lawyer who returned to his hometown and opened up a deli called Ham Good Sandwich. John was more of a minor character, but he was developed quite well. I could also relate to him burning out on the law and leaving the big city behind... I often think that I would love to move to a small town where its not so peopley!
Both romances were sweet enough to give you a tooth ache and are not something I normally read, but I found that I enjoyed this one. While the insecurities of all the characters piling up was somewhat overwhelming, they were otherwise likable and engaging and seemed like real people you would meet in everyday life. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes uncomplicated writing, small town life and holiday settings.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from the publisher, Berkley.
Susan Quincy owns a gift shop selling items that are handmade or repurposed. She has always been the shy girl in school. When she went to the prom, Danny Mayfield, a popular boy was asked by her parents to take her out. Danny thought she was a great date and had a good time. However, some years later, Susan still thinks it was a nothing more than a pity date and is still embarrassed about. the whole thing. Meanwhile, Danny is still thinking about Susan and would like to take her out. Meanwhile, Susan's older worker Betsy is interested in the fellow who owns the cafe next door. Lots of twists and turns but a happy ending!
LuAnn Rice has been a favorite of mine since I read Playing For Keeps, which is the first book in the series called Cricket Creek. It is the book that introduced to me this charming town filled with a cast of characters that you can't help wanting to get to know. Since that time I have read three more in the series and am looking forward to reading the rest as well. They are all light-hearted, quick reads that are sure to bring a smile to the face of any fan of sweet, romantic comedies.
Marry Me On Main Street is the 11th book in the Cricket Creek series, and even though I have not yet read books 5 through 10, I did not feel that it took anything away from this cozy holiday story.
This book is exactly the kind that I always look forward to reading every year around the holidays. You can't help but get into the holiday spirit while reading about this quaint little town filled with so many delightful characters.
If you love the holidays like I do and look forward to having a big TBR stack of Christmas reads, don't forget to add Marry Me On Main Street to your list.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me a copy of this book for my honest review. I give this book 4 out of 5 Christmas Cookies!!!
DNF at 45%. Way too slow moving. I love the small town feel and Christmas spirit but Lord, the book is only 280 and they JUST go on their first DATE at page 125?! Cmon man. There's another love story going on at the same time which I was enjoying but neither of them were compelling enough to keep me reading.

"Love knows no language" makes perfect sense now! In a place where it is difficult to find true love, Marry Me On Main Street just brings it all back. It's not just about the romance and what Danny and Susan feel for each other but it's about how much they adore each other's talent and the efforts that they put in, especially Susan who encourages Danny to disclose his hidden talent of woodworking to his family and open up his own furniture store! It was actually more of a practical version of love where they both decide to focus on their individuality first and then get married. Where true love can take a person is clearly seen through this beautiful love story!
Unfortunately, this was too slow paced and unrealistic. The hero and heroine were in high school together 10 years ago, making them 28 - neither of them acted or spoke like 28-year-olds. I'm not even sure they spoke like 38-year-olds. They meet up within the first couple of pages and although I thought that scene was ridiculous (I'm sure she could have held the box long enough for him to let go and walk around to the front of her and take it), they didn't talk again for 100 pages or so! This was frustrating. I also found it hard to believe that in such a small town, they hadn't spoken or really seen each other in 10 years. There were way too many moments that had me rolling my eyes. There was also headswapping, which is my ultimate pet peeve. And the secondary romance wasn't interesting to me. In the end, I DNF'd this after a lot of skimming. I won't be reading more in this series.
Marry Me On Main Street by Luann McLane is a sweet, conflict free holiday romance that old and new fans of the Cricket Creek series are going to LOVE!
Susan Quincy might still be a bit shy, but she has really come out of her shell since opening her business. She is close to her parents but she leads a fairly solitary life. A chance encounter with her old high school crush, Danny Mayfield, is just the catalyst she needs to jumpstart her life. With her close friend & assistant, Betsy Brock's encouragement, Susan decides it is time to open herself to new experiences. Although she is a little nervous, she gives her wardrobe a much needed makeover and she tentatively accepts Danny's offer to go out with him. Although somewhat surprised by how much fun she has on their dates, Susan wants to take things slow, but fate steps in and hastens their plan to take their relationship to the next level.
Danny is feeling a little lonely and dissatisfied with his life and he is having trouble getting into the holiday mood. He is a kindhearted man who is quite dedicated to his family but by concentrating on helping them with their businesses, Danny is quite reluctant to pursue his career aspirations. Happy to finally run into Susan, he is rather bemused by her reaction when he asks her to go out with him. However, he does not let her refusal deter him from trying to persuade her to change her mind. He is quite charmed by Susan's adorable quirks and their time together is blissfully free from conflict or drama. Like Susan, Danny is fine with taking things slowly but when the opportunity presents itself to take their relationship up a notch, he eagerly takes advantage of the situation.
Susan and Danny's romance is an absolute delight to watch unfold. Although initially reluctant to confide why she is reluctant to date him, Susan does finally give Danny the reason she avoided him since high school. Their dates are rather low key but this provides them the chance to get to know each other. Although their interactions are mostly chaste and initially limited to steamy kisses, there is a marvelous undercurrent of desire that burns hotter with each encounter. However, their romance turns heated late in the story and although Susan is somewhat overwhelmed by her unexpected response, she and Danny discuss the problem instead of ignoring it. They are a mature couple with excellent communication skills who are committed to making their relationship work despite some of the obstacles in their way.
A secondary story arc leads to an unexpected romance for Susan's friend, Betsy. Feeling somewhat out of sorts since her daughter left for college, Betsy is surprised by her attraction to deli owner John Clark. She is rather intimidated by his past so, at first, she is quite reluctant to agree to go out with him. John has his share of emotional baggage from his previous career and failed marriage, but he is a genuinely nice man who slowly but gently persuades Betsy to give him a chance. Their romance is a wonderful addition to the storyline and readers who enjoy seeing older couples find happiness are going to love their love story.
Marry Me On Main Street by Luann McLane is a charming holiday novel with a cast of appealing characters, a tranquil small town setting and two love stories that are extremely heartwarming. The storyline is engaging and the dual romances are captivating. Although this latest release is the eleventh installment in the Cricket Creek series, it can easily be read as a standalone (but I highly recommend the previous novels in the series as well).

Review:
Reading this book reminded me of watching a Hallmark Christmas movie. I just wanted to snuggle up in my favorite cozy chair, with a warm blanket over me, sipping hot chocolate and enjoy reading this book. I loved the characters, the small town setting, the Christmas cheer and the humor found within the pages of this book.
Susan is such a sweet and lovable person that you could not help but like her immediately. She is a hard worker and she loves owning her own business, Rhyme And Reason, where she sells handmade items. She is happy with her life but she does miss having a man to spend time with and care about. And if she is being honest with herself, there is one specific man she would like to be involved with. That man would be Danny Mayfield. Ever since high school, she has had a bit of a crush on him. But after she finds out that he only invited her to prom because his mother asked him to, she cannot face him. In fact, she avoids him. So when a series of mishaps occur and Danny is the one to rescue her, she is embarrassed but also very excited. And when he begins to ask to spend more time with her, she wants to but she is afraid to. But he convinces her that he did not ask her to prom as a pity date and that he wants to spend time with her and get to know her again, so she finally agrees. She cannot help herself, he has held a special place in her heart.
The characters are well rounded and well developed. I enjoyed getting to meet Susan and Danny and spending time with them. They are both people that you can like and want only the best for them. I also enjoyed getting to know Susan’s friend and employee, Betsy, and her love interest, John. I really enjoyed reading about Susan’s and Betsy’s conversations and the funny things that they did. They had me smiling through much of the book.
The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and through most of the book I felt like I was right there watching all of the activities going on around me. I loved the small town setting, with all the nosy neighbors and everyone knowing everyone else’s business. I would definitely enjoy visiting this small town and be able to visit all the shops on Main Street and meet all of the people of the community.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted Romantic Comedy. I plan on reading the other books in this series because I want to visit Cricket Creek again.

This was so sweet and cozy! I wasn’t quite prepared for the dual love story but once I realized what was going on, I was able to settle in nicely. Wish there was another book after this one, for Aubrey or Macy…but this was a good one I’ll come back to again and again!
Marry Me on Main Street by LuAnn McLane is the 11th book in her wonderful Cricket Creek series. I am a big fan of this series, as McLane always manages to give us a sweet romance in a small town atmosphere such as Cricket Creek.
We meet our heroine, Susan Quincy, who runs Rhyme or Reason, a local gift shop with many handmade unique items. Danny Mayfield is our hero, and over the years, he has wondered why Susan always avoids him. Danny wants to change things, as he has always felt the attraction to Susan. One of Susan’s biggest selling items is a beautiful rocking chair, which she learns Danny makes in his spare time. This will be the start of a slow build romance that will start off as a friendship. In a short time, we learn that when Susan went to the prom with Danny, she finds out their mothers arranged it. This led Susan to think all these years that Danny was forced to go with her. As it turns out, Danny has never forgotten that night, and together they realize they lost all those years for nothing, and the romance between this sweet couple escalates.
Danny loves making his own fine wood work, and it is Susan who will push him to do what he loves best. But Danny feels he has to help his family fun Mayfield Marina, and does not want to rock the boat. Another wonderful part of McLane’s series is the addition of a second romance, with a somewhat older couple. I really did enjoy John (he runs the local sandwich shop) and Betsy’s ( she works for Susan part time) story.
As the story progresses, we enjoy watching Danny and Susan’s relationship heat up, as they were such a nice sweet couple. The ending was very well done, as Danny’s surprise for Susan gives them both a wonderful happy future. We also get to see John and Betsy relationship grow, and it was so much fun to see the other people we have gotten to know in Cricket Creek.
LuAnn McLane gives us another sweet story in Cricket Creek, which is always great to visit. If you enjoy small town romances, you can’t go wrong reading this series, written so well by LuAnn McLane.
I think this is a case of "it's not me, its you". My natural cynicism was turned off by the syrupy sweetness of Cricket Creek. While the romance of Susan and Danny was sweet and even hot at times, they were still just so nice. I think I need a little more alpha in my Christmas romance.
A sweet romance but slow. A bit repetitive on some dialog. A lot of mentions of previous book characters which maybe if I had read their stories I'd have appreciated more.
