A woman caught in a battle with immortals, fate, and her heart.
Ashtyn Lane spends her days with her head in the clouds and her nights tangled in vivid dreams. Raised by her late uncle Ken, with little knowledge of her parents. She always wondered why she didn’t quite fit in. All that changed when she ran into a strange man that seemed oddly familiar. When two best friends, Cody and Mac, show up with the answers to her lingering questions Ashtyn is thrown into a world she never knew existed. Discovering realms where Dream walkers, Wizards and Vampires exist she learns of her mother’s prophecy. “From the ashes the Phoenix will rise.” Cody believes Ashtyn was born to be the savior and he will do anything to protect her till that day comes. While she sorts through the turmoil of her new life. She wonders if she has what it takes to be the Phoenix. Will she rise to the occasion? Who will win her heart? The man she dreamt of, or the man she never expected?
I don't remember why I downloaded this book on my kindle, or where I heard of it. The book satisfied a reading challenge of mine, so I decided to give it a go. While it was an easy read, it wasn't really an enjoyable one. Ashtyn is supposed to be in her mid-twenties but she acts like she is a child. She is immature, and her attitude swings so dramatically it's hard to follow her. She throws a fit when the men in her life tell her what to do, but she doesn't exactly make the best decisions and her judgement and rational is seriously lacking. On top of that, she comes in to this realm that she had no clue existed just a week before, and she has the audacity to make demands to his high and mighty Council, and tell them how to run their realm? Who does she think she is? On top of all that, somehow, all the men that meet her seem to fall in love with her in an instant, which I also don't understand because she is a brat.
Even after reading the entire book, I feel like I still don't totally understand the different realms. Additionally, the writing style is infuriating! I hate when authors switch back and forth between first and third person, unless there is a clear reason. Not only does the point of view bounce back and forth between Ashtyn in the first person, and everyone else in the third person, but it bounces back and forth paragraph by paragraph. I noticed several grammatical errors, and had to reread several paragraphs due to the tense not matching up right.

Book Review: Book: Between Two Realms: Awaken Author: Amber Flora Rating: 2 Out of 5 Stars
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review and to be a blog stop.
I gave this on the good old fashioned try, but there was so much that went wrong for me. I did really want to and tried to enjoy it, but there was just something really lacking. There was paragraphs that just went on and on without really getting anything done. It felt like I was being told instead of shown what was going on. Plus, I really do feel like some of the paragraphs should have been broken up with some dialogue.
One thing that really annoyed me was the point of views would change from first person to third person within the same chapter. This is did not work for House of Night and it really does not work here. There would a few pages in first person, then over to third person, then back to first person. Authors really do need to stick with one point of view and stay there. It's like going from present to past tense.
Now, let's talk about Ashtyn. Um, she is twenty-eight years old and acts like she's ten. She needs all these men to keep her in line and to make her choices for her. She always needed to be saved and actually let these men go out and do everything. She just stayed in and watched movies. It just felt like she needed these men to make her strong. Really? Really? Plus, it seemed like they had just met each other and they are one big happy family. Really? Come to think of it, most of the female characters were kind of dry.
The characters as a whole were just flat. I felt nothing for them and found it kind of hard to keep everyone straight. There was just too much and they all just seemed to be the same.
The plot line was good, but it was kind of broken up by unnecessary details. There were a few scenes that I felt like could have been taken out. I guess the pacing was okay, but it could have been done a lot better. The action scenes were flat, as well as the more personal scenes. Where the characters were supposed to be shallow, the scenes were the best. It just needs clean up.
So much potential that ended up falling short. It just is missing so much. This is one that I really don't get why it has a five star rating on Goodreads. It's not the worse book I've read, but it's far from the best.
I read Between Two Realms by Amber Flora in one day. It was captivating and entertaining. This is the first time I have read a book by this author and as I like to paranormal and fantasy books, this definitely did not disappoint.
Ashtyn Lane was no ordinary girl but she felt that way all her life, inconspicuous and unremarkable. She was told her mother died in childbirth and she had no clue who her father was. She was brought up and cared for by her Uncle Ken who loved her like his own. He passed away suddenly and Ashtyn lived a rather humdrum life alone in her cottage. Her only family now was her best friend Lori who she grew up with. One night, Ashtyn bumped into a tall, well-built, handsome stranger and her life was never the same again. The stranger was Cody who claimed to be her mother’s friend. It turns out that Ashtyn was not the person she thought she was. She was special and sought by good and evil forces.
Ashtyn had the shock of her life to know that she was not human but a Dreamwalker and had been transitioning from one realm to the other. She meets Mac, a friend of Cody’s and both take turns to protect her from the Credo who were after her. She learns that the Credo wanted to know the whereabouts of their leader who was entrapped by her mother Deandra. She discovers that her mother is a high priestess of the Dreamwalkers and had a mission to unite all 4 realms so everyone could live in peace. She, with her new friends move from one safe house to the other, faced the council of Dreamwalkers and encountered several perilous situations. She develops an attraction to both Cody and Mac and also to the mysterious general Benjamin who had a history with her own mother.
I laud the author’s imagination and the originality of every adventure. Ashtyn’s character was well-developed, from a socially awkward and unadventurous girl to a confident and strong person who weathers the tribulations life throws her. She suddenly becomes the object of affection of three men when before she had a lacklustre love life. She exhibits her mother’s grit and was determined to carry on the mission she inherited. Cody believed that she is going to be the saviour of their people and although she doubts herself, realizes that survival of their people is at stake. It thrills me when wallflowers turn into self-assured individuals and when ordinary people become extraordinarily gifted.
The book is the first in the series and ends on a cliff hanger but I wanted more so I am pre-ordering the sequel. I am dying to find out how Ashtyn extricates herself from a seemingly hopeless situation. Nothing is what it seems and this book has all the elements of an exciting series – friendship, love, jealousy, family conflict, betrayal, adventure, and revenge. There are many POVs in this book and sometimes, I get confused with who said what and I had to reread for better understanding. There was a shortfall of simple tags to register who was speaking.
Overall, I rate this book as four stars. It was a fun and easy read. There was no boring moment and I got hooked from the start.
Between Two Realms (Awaken) by Amber Flora is a wonderfully enchanting book. I give this book four out of five stars. I am a huge fan of the paranormal genre, and Awaken is definitely at the top of my list for having one of the best plot lines. Awaken is the first book of the series. The author had me intrigued with, “Fate is a devious mistress. She strikes when you least expect it, and if you’re not careful, you’ll miss the point she’s trying to make”. As readers, that is a very personal thing; who are we, where are we, what do we do, and where do we go from here; questions that guide us to our fates and destinies and the same questions that lead our characters on their journey. This book is written from multiple points of views; which I feel really helps the reader identify on a more personal level with the characters.
Ashtyn is a normal girl just looking to continue doing normal things, with her normal friends until she is suddenly thrust into another world; one she never knew existed. Her vivid dreams help lead her to a path of problems, answers about who she is, and quite possibly love; “That no one could ever be complete if they didn’t know who they truly were or where they came from?” Ashtyn is a strong female character; she is wise, strong, and cunning; all of which aid her in her life’s journey.
Cody is very protective of Ashtyn. He is strong, brave, and handsome. He is part of the guard that oversees the protection of Ashtyn; although his quest has been personal for a long time. Their connection upon meeting is quite charming, and later you can sense a desire; whether it be love or friendship, well you have to read the book to find out. One of my favorite quotes from Cody was, “Ashtyn” a soft whisper escaped his lips . . . I’m here to help you, don’t fall asleep”. Literally had goosebumps.
Mac is an amazing character! I feel like Mac stole the show as a character; you kind of love to hate him. He is friends, and coworkers, with Cody; they both have watched over Ashtyn for a long time. Mac is considered by many to be a womanizer, and he definitely has a mouth on him, but do not let his rough exterior fool you. Some people bury their past to avoid confronting any pain in the future, so they build a wall of hardness on the outside; Mac is also quite funny and I love the banter between the characters, “I like food, but then again when I have a nice prime rib I get a little aroused. I guess everything is sexual with me”.
Overall, I felt this was a well written, and well thought out storyline. The differences between the characters played well into their interactions; which really drew me into the story and took me out of my own realm into theirs. I have never read anything by this author before, but I cannot wait for the next installment; especially since it left on a cliffhanger. I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys paranormal, paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and shifters.
The Novel Between Two Realms is the first book in the Series by Amber Flora. This Novel blew me away. It was funny, engrossing and filled with adventure and of course romance! Amber Flora brings such life to her characters. All of the characters have strong personalities, entertaining and mysterious. Flora wove a tale that ensnared me from the start. There was no putting this book down once I started. Amber Flora created a new reality for me as she drew me into this unforgettable story.
Ashtyn Lane is tender hearted, sassy and gives new meaning to being strong willed. For the last 28 years, she has lived a quite life living on her late-Uncles farm. With out a family, and lost in life-like dreams and daydreams, Ashtyn never really felt like she fit in with those around her.
A chance meeting one day with familiar guy (Cody) on the street starts a series of cataclysmic events that forever changes Ashtlyn life. Cody is a sexy, bossy Dreamwalker from another realm sent to protect Ashtlyn by sharing her dreams. She soon discovers that she is part Dreamwalker, a being who can realm jump. As if that wasn’t enough, she also learns that her mother, the High Priestess, foresaw Ashtyn being the prophesied Phoenix. As such she would unite the 4 realms, Vampire, Wizard, dream walker and human and restore Avonya (a safe haven for dream walkers) to its former glory. . “…you would be our salvation, from the ashes a phoenix will rise and restore Avonya to all its glory.” She is the key the enemies seek. Unfortunately for Ashtlyn, she has no idea why!
Enlisting the help Mac, Cody’s best friend and fellow Dreamwalker, Ashtyn sets out to find out the answers that she seeks. Traveling to new realms for answers and trying to evade the numerous rebels after her she makes many new friends that aid her in her journey. Along the way the connection she feels for both Cody and Mac intensifies. As if the fate of the world in Ashtlyn hands was not enough, she now has too try and decipher her feelings for sexy Cody and ladies man Mac! It defiantly makes their journey exciting!
This story is told in a three person point of view- Ashtyn, Cody and Mac. Between two Realms is the first of a series, I am hoping there will eventually be a HEA and there IS A CLIFFHANGER!! Having said that so worth the read and highly recommended. Personally I will be following this author from now on.
‘Awaken’ is the first book in the ‘Between Two Realms’ series and delves into the unique world of Dream Walkers, that Amber Flora has created. Her book transports us to a world of Dream Walking, Wizards and Vampires that she has lovingly and meticulously crafted, bringing her story to life through her well written wording and distinctive style. The story centres on Ashtyn Lane, a bit of a misfit who works in a mundane job in the city- a place she hates. Never knowing her parents she was raised by her Uncle Ken on his farm. Ashtyn commutes to the city every day because she really isn’t cut out for life in the city, preferring her beloved farm- finding solace in farm life and nature. Ashtyn often finds her mind wandering during the day, spending a lot of time with her head in the clouds. At night her dreams are so vivid, familiar and comforting that she often wishes she didn’t have to leave them. One day after work she is rushing to meet her best friend Lori in the city, when Ashtyn literally runs into Cody Mass, who is devastatingly attractive, but seems vaguely familiar. She shakes off that idea, as she would remember such a hot guy. Wouldn’t she? Later that evening Ashtyn returns home to find a badly wounded Cody laying in her yard, he manages to warn her that she is in danger, before he passes out. Although she is very wary of this stranger, Ashtyn feels compelled to help him and so, finds herself thrust into a world she could only begin to imagine. Cody and his best friend Mac were assigned to watch over and protect Ashtyn, by the Dream Walker Council- because she may hold the key to saving the Realms. Ashtyn is believed to be the “Phoenix” that had been prophesied to restore the realm to its former glory and bring peace to their people. Ashtyn is attracted to both the hunky guys and she has such intense chemistry with them both, she can’t seem to choose between them. It is a journey of discovery for Ashtyn- with many secrets to uncover, finding out about her heritage, finding love and a finding a place where she finally belongs. Amber Flora took me on a journey that had me laughing out loud in some parts and then reaching for the tissues the next. I found myself really drawn into the story and couldn’t put it down. This book is such a good combination of paranormal, mystery and romance that had me turning every page avidly, wanting more. The story ends on a cliff hanger and I can’t wait to read the next book
This is a story starts with Ashtyn finishing her work day up and meeting with her best friend Lori. Ashtyn was orphaned practically from birth. he was raised by her uncle Ken. He loved her but never told her about her parents or where she came from. She lived alone and did not miss the hustle and bustle of the city life. Living in the country was quite and just the way she liked it. But unknowingly that was all about to change.
Cody is a dream walker, also her guardian and protectror. He can roam between the realms of human, vampire, wizard. But his main oal is his belief that Ashtyn is going to be the savior, The Pheonix. That her very own mother invisioned before she disappeared. He was protecting Ashtyn in her dreams, keeping the enemy away from her. Cody, is following in his fathers footsteps, Like him he believes that she is the future. Now they are getting Daring and want to come to her in the human realm. Cody comes to her to warn her. But is hurt.. While she is unsure what to do with him. She feels a contection.
While he is healing, Cody sends the only man he can trust, Mac. Mac is also a dreamwalker who is assigned to also protect Ashtyn. But he is does not hve the belief that Cody does. Mac guards his heart and his past. Mac is a player, but still looking for the one that calls to him. He can not let go of this instant attraction to Ashtyn.
Ashtyn is on a journey to discover herself. The Power and the Strength was locked inside of herself. Along this journey she finds the pieces of that puzzle that were hidden from her. She finds the family she always dreamed of, the friendships she always diserved. Ashtyn is stronger then she ever gives herself credit for.
I enjoyed this book, I enjoyed the journey that Ashtyn took her through the emotions to find herself. The inner battles she had to face. I laughed and cried with her. I was happy and sad with her. Amber Flora is a great writer that knos how to grab her readers with both hands and lead you down this path of a great adventure. I cant wait for Book 2, to see what happens with Ashtyn....
When a books first line is "Fate is a devious mistress.", you just know you're in for an adventure. We first meet Ashtyn while she's at work, she begins to describe herself as boring and ordinary, unlike her buff Lori. Soon we meet Cody, a mysterious man who passes Ashtyn on the street, he can't help but feel drawn to her. When mysterious Cody shows up on Ashtyn's property injured and telling her not to fall asleep, she can't help but wonder if he's crazy.
Cody soon reveals that Ashtyn is anything but boring and ordinary, being the daughter of two very powerful people in a different realm, Cody can't help but hope that Ashtyn is who will save them all. With the help of his friends, Cody shows Ashtyn everything she's been missing. He takes her to Avonya, a place where her mother, the High Priestess, lived before dying. Avonya was destroyed by the Credo, while there, Ashtyn can't help but feel connected to this world. Cody begins to example to Ashtyn why her mother picked her name, she knew that Ashtyn would be the one to save everyone. "She knew you would be our salvation, from the ashes a phoenix will rise and restore Avonya to all its glory. Little Phoenix, you are not the cause of my father’s death or this broken city. You were protected because you were meant to save us.”
Soon Ashtyn begins to find out that nothing is as it seems, and everyone including Cody is hoping she'll be the one to save them all. While Ashtyn begins to dig in and question everything, she has to face some big decisions of her own. Can she be everything, everyone needs? Can she believe in herself, as much as everyone else believes in her? Can she handle what happens next?
Amber Flora creates a wonderfully told tale that mixes romance, paranormal, and some mystery together. She leaves us with so many different emotions, and leaves us with even more unanswered questions. My number one question being, when does this next book come out!!
Between Two Realms: Awaken by Amber Flora is an intriguing story of a woman that never quite felt like she belonged. Ashtyn Lane thinks she is just an ordinary girl, with an ordinary desk job. Her days are spent daydreaming of something more and her nights are spent dreaming of a family she never knew. When she literally bumps in to a strange man on the streets of Philadelphia that knows her name and then finds him bleeding in the woods surrounding her farm, her life turns upside down. Thrown into a world she knows nothing about, best friends, Cody and Mac, must protect her and enlighten her about the world she comes from. While learning about realms where Dreamwalkers, Wizards, and Vampires exist, she also learns of her fate and of her mother’s prophecy. Cody tells her “She knew you would be our salvation, from the ashes a phoenix will rise and restore Avonya to all its glory.” While trying to figure out her new life, she wonders if she will be able to rise to the occasion. As she digs deeper into her past more questions arise. Will she rise from the ashes as the prophecy says? Will she fall for the man from her dreams or will she choose the one she never expected to love? Or will she simply deny her fate? This story was a blend of mystery, fantasy, and romance. Author Amber Flore took the mythological worlds of Wizards, Vampires, and Dreamwalkers and put her own spin on them. This is a great read for anyone who loves the fantasy of other realms but also wants a little bit of romance. I absolutely loved this book and can not wait for more from this amazing author.
Between Two Realms: Awaken By: Amber Flora 5 out of 5 stars
The story Behind Two Realms: Awaken by Amber Flora is a paranormal/fantasy romantic novel. It tells the story of Ashlyn Lane who his raised by her uncle Ken, however doesn’t know anything about her mother and father. Then one night she meets Cody. He has been attacked outside her home and somehow she feels drawn to him. Cody begins to reveal to her who she is and who her mother was. Also that she is in danger and from when she was a child he has been charged with keeping her safe. What comes next is a dizzying leap to other realms and meeting others, such as Cody’s best friend Mac, along with revelations of what is to come. Who wants to harm Ashlyn? Will Cody and Mac be able to keep her safe? What is this feeling that is starting to grow between Ashly and Mac?
This story is awesome! I love paranormal and fantasy stories. Add in a little romance and you have the creation of a wonderfully, awesome story. The plot of the story doesn’t disappoint with enough action and mystery to keep you turning pages because you want to know what will happen next. Which leads me to the characters. They feel larger than life and they seem to jump off the page at you. The depth of emotions that they have for each other shows the amount of heart and soul that Amber Flora poured into each of them.
I highly recommend this book to anyone. Even if you have never read a paranormal or fantasy book this is the one you should start reading. Add in the touch of romance and you have a book you will not want to miss. I would recommend this book for 18 year and older as it does have violence and some romantic talk and situations.
Between Two Realms: Awaken by Amber Flora was a very interesting story. It follows a young lady named Ashtyn who runs into her heritage head on. She is a fireball who is willing to help others even when she is unsure of who she is. She has lost all her family, or so she thought. This is a thrilling ride of Ashtyn learning that she is a Dreamwalker (someone who is able to navigate through other’s dreams) as well as part Wizard. She is not sure who her father is and she eventually learns that he is still a part of her. Cody is sent to watch over her and has done so since she was little. Enter Mac, an Irish Dreamwalker, who loves women. These three make for an interesting trio throughout the story. This book leaves you hanging but leaves you wanting more. The author does jump between characters with no warning which can be a little hard to follow but once you figure out who is talking or thinking it makes it easier. This is a good book which has a way to draw you in and keep you wanting but yet not so much that you can’t put it down for a little while. It took me a little while to get into the book but once I did it was really good. I enjoy the emotional rollercoaster that I was taken through and I really feel for Ashtyn and Mac by the end of the book. I am curious as to what happens next so I will be getting the next one in the series to see how things play out. This is a mixture of romance, drama, and fantasy. So if you don’t like that then don’t read this book but if you like a spunky heroine with some hot bodyguards then this is for you.
It started as normal day for Ashtyn going to work listening to her best friend Lori talk about her latest boyfriend and life drama. Ashtyn and Lori have been lifelong friends, they are like sisters. On the way to meet Lori Ashtyn runs in to Cody and that is when Ashtyn’s life turns to total confusion, new friendships, and many unanswered questions. Cody is a dream walker that has been looking over Ashtyn in her dreams. Cody believes Ashtyn is the Phoenix that is going to save the dream realm. Cody and his best friend Mac are trying their best to keep Ashtyn safe but as Ashtyn is finding things out about herself, she wants more answers and Mac and Cody are afraid that the Credo will find her. Cody and Mac think the Credo are after Ashtyn for a secret that her mother may have but her in dreams. The more time she spends with Mac and Cody the more she grows to love them and wants to keep them safe.
I loved the bantering between Mac and Ashtyn. I enjoyed the different realms that the characters could go to and from and how they are all different form each other. The author kept me wanting to read more and I did not want to put it down. The danger and the developing friendships I just wanted to keep reading. I love the fact that you can feel the emotions every character goes through. At times I wished I could jump in the book and help comfort, or help fight. The only problem I had with this book was sometimes a word would be missing so it would through me off and I would have to reread to figure it out.
This a certain read for any that love to have their heads in the clouds and dream about other worlds and pretend they live in a fantasy realm.
That’s exactly how Ashtyn Lane lived. She was raised by her late uncle with no knowledge of her parents, she liked to dream about back packing across Europe, and literally would space out from time to time at work floating away in her day dreams, until one day she literally comes crashing into a guy who seemed so familiar to her and knew her name.
Cody is a dreamwalker and Ashtyn’s protector of sorts, he knows almost all her family secrets and to help save her he must tell her what he knows. Ashtyn is then thrown head first into dream/shadow and magic realm with very little understanding what's going on, some think she is the saviour and some are after her for her dreams!
She depends on the protector and his friend Mac for aid in search of her father which she hopes will shed light on her life and why he abandoned her at birth.
The end is a cliffy, What will Ashtyn do? follow her heart to save her friends? Make deals the enemies?, or do what she must to become the so called Phoenix?
Read it to find out!
This is a great 5 star read and I love that it's written from the three main characters and their POV, steady pace, a definite page turner and you’ll never want to put it down. Book 2 here i come
Ashtyn Lane thinks she’s just an ordinary girl with an active imagination. Her boring desk job in the city is replaced by tender dreams of the family she never knew at night. But when Cody, a mysterious stranger, shows up on her property, injured and bleeding, her entire world changes. It turns out, Ashtyn is anything but ordinary, the daughter of two powerful beings from other realms who Cody believes may be the savior they’ve been waiting for.
With the help of his friend Mac, Cody shows Ashtyn the world of dreamwalkers, a race of mystical beings who can walk and protect people in dreams, and in the real world. Ashtyn’s mother was a powerful High Priestess of the dream walkers, and Ashtyn herself might be the fulfillment of a prophesy. As Ashtyn digs deeper into her past, she must make huge decisions that will forever alter her future. Will she choose to love? To leave? To be the savior they all expect her to be?
Between Two Realms is a fun blend of fantasy, mystery and romance. Author Amber Flora draws on accepted mythology and puts her own spin on the worlds of wizards, vampires and more. Between to Realms is a great read for anyone who loves the romance of NK Jemisin’s Hundred Thousand Kingdoms series and wants to feel that blend of romance and fantasy all over again.
Ashtyn Lane was a loner, an orphan, and a daydreamer. Raised by her uncle Ken and having only one best friend, her life was a lonely, boring one. This all changed the day she literally runs into a good looking stranger that seems familiar somehow. Ashtyn finds out there is more to herself and her family than she ever imagined. Tossed into a reality where there are such things as Dreamwalkers, vampires, etc, can she learn to adjust and become what she is supposed to be?
This book was a very enjoyable read. It sucked me into the story right away and I found the characters both relatable and entertaining. I could easily imagine the characters as friends of mine. Being more of a loner myself and adopted, I could understand exactly how Ashtyn felt being raised without knowing anything about her parents and struggling to find out who she is and why she doesn’t fit in. And why is she always dreaming, both in the daytime and at night? The secondary characters were also enjoyable. They are quite likeable and realistic . The sense humor and snarkiness is great too. Although some of the characters have ulterior motives, I could understand where they came from even if I didn’t agree.
The story pulled me in right away and I had a hard time putting it down. The different places were described quite well, putting me right there. I surely hope this is a series, I want to read more!
Oh the emotions in this book. Ashtyn has no clue what her true roots are. She grew up with her uncle due to her mother dying and not ever knowing her father. She comes across a man named Cody who has been watching over her and knows what her true roots are. When they meet in person Cody has been injured and she makes sure that he is ok. When Cody comes into her life so does Mac and Kat and Bonnie and Gloria, as well as quite a few others as well. Her mother was the high priestess in anther realm and she s believed to be the savior for them. But, of course nothing ever goes to plan right? And the same can be said for this story. When something can go wrong it does. I went from laughing to crying and from being happy to being completely ready to beat someone. By the way the book ended I am hoping that there will be another installment later to come! I would definitely recommend this book to any and everyone because it is absolutely amazing! I hope that everyone who reads this book enjoys it as much as I have.
It's taking me long with this book because I've been sick. Now for the review, this is the first book in the Between Two Realms series. The Dream Walker world included the Wizards and Vampire realms. I loved this book except for a couple of things, first it seem she seem to have to fixed everyone and everything, I can't believe how many times she had to be saved.
Raised as a human her dreams were so vivid, and comforting she would rather be there than real life. That's when she founds out she is different. And everything she thought she knew was nothing like this world she really came from.
In comes Cody and his best friend Mac no more boring life for her. And being alone when her uncle Ken died left her with no known family. I love the relationship between the characters. I don't know why this time I couldn't keep the characters straight. Anyway can't wait for the next book.
Ashtyn's life is stuck she doesn’t like to be in the city but she has to pay the bills. The only time she feels herself is when she is on her uncles farm. Her world is turned inside out when she meets Cody. He tells her of realms that she has the power to go to. He tells her that she is the phoenix and that she has the power to save their world. 4stars because it was a good story and I liked how the author wrote. I don’t like love triangles. The woman is always going back and forth between guys. I liked Cody and was just sad for him. He put so much on her being this phoenix that he wasn’t truly living. He was my pick from the beginning he was just it. Muscular and tall. Mac was ok for me but I loved his accent. He was always on her side and he let her be her. He was fierce. I continued to read because I needed to know what happens at the end.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review via Itsy Bitsy Book Bits.
I felt like this story dragged a lot. I couldn't connect with the characters, or get a good feel for them. The world and character building felt like it was missing something.
I really wanted to like this book, but I found it boring, just didn't have enough action or excitement. I don't have any other way to describe it. It also felt like the story jumped from part to part at times, or unexpectedly I would find myself wondering what character was actually saying what. It confused me because it jumped from character from character so quickly that I had no idea who I was reading about. So I guess the other way I could describe this book is confusing.
I loved this book. The writing is excellent although there are a few grammatical errors. The characters are fun and full of personality. I discovered fantasy, humor, mystery and great plot with this book. I am recommending it to friends daily and shoring how much I enjoyed it. It flowed so well that there was never a drag in the story. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. The reader is left with unanswered questions and I need answers! Thank you Amber Flora for this great series!
“…Just because fate has a plan for us, doesn’t mean we listen.” I was skeptical for the first half of this book, that it may not pick up pace and get exciting as I had originally hoped it would be. I am glad that I stuck with it though because it did eventually get to the good stuff that you would look for in a paranormal romance book. Ashtyn Lane is an introvert, she much rather stick to what she knows and the simple life. She lives vicariously through her best friend’s, Lori or O’Hara, much faster paced life. Ashtyn was raised on a small farm by her uncle and has no idea of what happened to her parents and as far as she knows he is her only family. Everything is as usual until one day she runs into a handsome and mysterious man that she feels a connection to, as if she has met him before. Cody is actually there to protect her from the dangers that she has yet to learn about, that are lurking in the shadows for her. “It was in fact his job to keep watch over her while she walked back and forth between the realms unaware she was even doing so, and she kept him pretty busy as he bailed her out of trouble on quite a few occasions.” Ashtyn soon learns about the different realms and that she is in fact a dream walker. “Avonya… Such a beautiful city it was; the city was built in a circle pattern with the temple placed directly in the center.” She can go between realms in her sleep and Avonya needs help before it becomes a complete ruin. Unfortunately, dream walking is no longer safe for her and she quickly finds out why. Cody enlists the help of his close friend Mac to protect her from the dangers that await her when she sleeps. There is a cliffhanger to this book so no HEA quite yet. There are two other books in the Between Two Realms series and I would recommend that they be read together and in order for one to fully understand all that is going and make any sense at all.
Awaken, by author Amber Flora, is the first book in the Between Two Realms series. Of note, this is also the author's debut novel. This was a well written novel that kept me engaged, especially noting it's a paranormal romance – which is outside the type of romance novels I typically read. However, this is not just a romance, it is much more. The story holds a steady pace, start to finish, which is not something always seen or expected in an author's first work – so I am certainly impressed.
The main character, Ashtyn Lane, is a niave girl with her head in the clouds. She was not raised by her parents, but instead her uncle. Her two best friends, Cody and Mac, change her world when they provide insight into her parents and who she truly may be. This pushes her into a world filled with more than just the typical every day life – but of wizards, vampires and more. Ashtyn's character comes across as sweet, but with a fiesty personality – she knows how to be independent. Cody and Mac are not only Ashtyn's best friends, but they are much more. They are both sexy and attractive in their own rights and they have the confidence and demeanor to carry it.
I did like how the author provided multiple points of view in this book. It allows for various insights into the events that are occurring and the thoughts going within each of those character's minds. Truly a very well written start to this series and I am already beginning the next book to know what goes on next!
