I aspire to be like that very kind rich lady one day, I want one hundred dogs and I want to be able to brush them, feed them and talk to them each day. I love that the author of The Very Kind Rich Lady and Her One Hundred Dogs didn't just say that she had one hundred dogs, the author showed them and drew them. I love dogs so this was definitely a good book for me to read. I like that the kind rich lady was able to name all of her dogs as well and call them by name to come play. I wish I had one hundred dogs now. The illustrations were really cute too and I think it would be fun to read this with a class because we can talk about the dogs and have a couple students recognize if their dog looked liked one of the dogs or tell us which is their favorite. This would be an amazing and silly read aloud book!
This book would be really good for teachers and students learning to count to one hundred. Cute story, students would be able to count all one hundred dogs together.
This book depicts the story of a very rich lady who happens to have one hundred dogs. She feeds them every day, she also brushes them and finds at least one tick for each, she calls them to go play by calling them each by their name. After they are done, they go back inside where they sleep, she always has room and love for each of her dogs. This adorable dog book will capture the heart of all dog lovers or just any readers in general. With amazing illustrations all introducing the dogs it will be easy to understand for any reader, there is more illustrations than words so it will be great for students reading along and they will be able to make their own stories as they read. A good teaching idea would be to help with counting, as I was going through this book through every page towards the middle there were more and more dogs being introduced, this would be a fun way to learn counting.
Once there was a kind rich lady who adopted 100 dogs. She names the dogs, calls each one by name, plays with them, and feeds them. Isn't that nice?
This is the sort of thing gets by because it's for children, so reading it as an adult gives me weird feelings. I suppose it's nice that these dogs have been adopted and aren't on the streets, but I don't see how one woman could give each one the love it deserves, and I can't imagine how smelly her house is. And the fleas! I think this book is a good idea, but merely listing the dogs and the daily activities doesn't do justice to this charming concept and does nothing to allay my concerns. I would say this is a fun readaloud, but who wants to repeat 100 dogs' names twice during one readthrough while nothing happens?
Reading all one hundred dogs names and their answers to the question about whether they all had a lovely time together, gave Lil Dude a case of the giggles.
This book serves as a good counting book. Each page that goes by adds more and more dogs to the story, and the total keeps growing. I like that this is a counting book with dogs because it is something that is fun and relatable. Another reason this book is very interesting is that it gives each dog a different name and even makes every single one look different from another. Another fun part of this book is that it includes more than just counting. At on point, it says that the Very Kind Rich Lady strokes each dog 10 times. So that adds a little multiplication into the mix. The pictures also add to the overall appeal of this book. They are able to help put into perspective just how much one hundred dogs is. Overall, this book is simple and provides a story along with lots of opportunities for the reader to count.
I loved this! Maybe because it's always been a dream of mine to win the lottery and retire to a huge piece of land where I could rescue an abundance of dogs to live happily ever after with me. :)
This story is based on a woman in Taiwan who took in a large number of stray dogs. I love this woman!
This delightful story features a woman who lives in a tall house on a hill with all 100 stray dogs that she's adopted. There really are 100 dogs in the story too and they all have a name so be prepared to read all 100 names. ;) Children learning to count will probably get a kick out of counting all 100 dogs. My favourite little dog is Bingo, who is always late. So cute!
Funny and delightful. It would take someone with a lot of money to care for a hundred dogs, but this lady obviously adores each canine in her family. Each has a name and the illustrations depict every breed, mutt, and personality you can imagine.
Note: My parents rescued dogs for many years. My mother was obsessed with rescuing them. Each had a name like "Jefferson", "Nellie", "Tootsie", "Alice", "Danny", "Charlie", "Lucy", etc. When my father passed away in 2002 my library honored his memory by purchasing this title for the children's division. It was the perfect choice.
Fun story about a lady and her 100 dogs. Ususally a news story about a woman such as this would involve the ASPCA and/or the Humane Society taking away the poor animals from the hoarding "cat" or "dog" lady.
But they explain that she is rich and thus allowed her eccentricities, since she takes good care of her pets.
The counting is fun, the names are cute and the pictures, while a bit fuzzy, are very cute. Our girls really enjoyed looking at each of the dogs.
AWESOME read-aloud. 100 dog names! Hilarious! We keep omiting the word "rich" because there's really no point for it. Other than that she can cleanly house and play all day with 100 dogs, I guess.
