A woman and baby on the run. A Texas lawman sworn to protect them both.
A tip about a serial killer's next target sends former big-city lawman Levi Crockett on a fool's errand. The willowy blonde he finds isn't the intended victim. But Alexa Dearborn is on the run and needs Levi's protection. So does the newborn she's guarding with her life.
With Alexa's WITSEC identity compromised, the Texas deputy is Alexa's best hope of survival. And although Levi isn't ready to trust her after the tragedy that tore his family apart, he'd never turn his back on the PI and baby girl in her care. Still, as a ruthless murderer stalks them, Levi finds himself fighting an even more powerful enemy: the dangerous desire bringing them closer together…

This is the third installment in the Appaloosa Pass Ranch Series. This storyline was different than the other books in this series. It was interesting and enthralling. There was so much going on and there were so many suspects. Alexa was a wonderful woman, brave all she wanted to do was keep everyone safe but when someone is trying to kill you that may be hard. Now as for Levi he was a brave man that was trying to stay away from Alexa but it was becoming difficult. He was conflicted at the very beginning but in the end the feelings overtook him.
Alexa knew that she was going to be playing with fire when she went looking for Levi. All she knew was that she needed his help in order to take care of a little baby that had just lost her mother. Levi couldn’t believe that Alexa was asking for his help after her role in his sister in laws death. No she didn’t kill her but because Paige was helping Alexa in finding out who was the serial killer and she died because of it. As their journey goes by there are so many suspects that come to light, not only that but there are bodies that keep growing in count. As the story is almost over there is one character that ends up showing up and I was so surprised. I couldn’t believe it but in the end it was something that I loved. I loved how Alexa and Levi were able to see that they were in love.
Trouble with a Badge was a great read. I loved the characters but I love that some of the brother keep coming up in these stories. I do miss seeing Addie and Weston the very first characters in the book. I’m also wondering about Addie’s twin brother and how he is going to play into this series. Alexa and Levi have this great chemistry. I love Ms. Fossen’s writing.
I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
Wow! Amazing. I am loving this series. The characters and the edge of your seat suspense are so excellent that they have kept me engaged through out each and every book. This story is no different than the previous two. Levi and Alexa's story is one for that I'm sure I will be rereading many more times. Plus, Violet is too cute for words. Can't wait to read the next story.
Really, really good enjoyable read.Mystery, suspense, thrills and spills with a whole lot of action going on.I couldn't put this one down it was just that good 👍.Next book please.
Levi and Alexa have this at love hate relationship going from start to finish. The animosity is instantaneous as well as the lust. The two have a wonderful reason to hate each other but the attraction between them could very well get them and Violet killed if they don't learn how to keep their emotions in check. The suspense leading up to the ending of this book keeps you turning the pages. I couldn't put it down. I still gotta read on I wanna know who the Moonlight Strangler is on to the next book in the series.
Good book that had plenty of action from the very beginning, along with a romance between two people who try to resist what's happening between them. In previous books, the characters have been dealing with a serial killer called the Moonlight Strangler. Alexa is a PI who has been trying to find him. In the previous book, a woman was killed by him and Alexa feels responsible. Complicating matters is the fact that the woman was the ex-wife of Levi's brother.
At the start of this book, Alexa has been under WITSEC protection, until her identity was compromised. Besides continuing her investigation into the Strangler, she got involved in helping a young woman who has a stalker. Levi gets an anonymous call offering information on the Strangler and heads off to meet the informant, only to discover Alexa instead, who is talking of a murder she witnessed and the baby she is protecting.
There's tension between them immediately, because Levi doesn't trust Alexa, thanks to her involvement with the Strangler case. Alexa accepts the distrust because she still feels guilty about her part in what happened. But Levi is a lawman first, and commits to protecting Alexa and baby Violet. However, neither of them can deny the sparks that are there between them. Over the next few days the attraction grows as they are forced into each other's company. Levi slowly loses his distrust, as he sees the lengths that Alexa goes to in order to protect Violet's mother. Alexa's guilty feelings are slightly relieved by Jax's acceptance of her presence in Levi's life. Both of them are a little freaked out by the strength of what they feel. The final scene at the sheriff's office is really good. I especially liked Levi's version of their moving their relationship ahead slowly.
The suspense portion of the story is fast paced and complex. Alexa has someone who is trying to kill her, and there are multiple possibilities. There is the man who is stalking her friend, and his anger at the way he thinks that Alexa is keeping him away from her. Alexa is also a witness against a man accused of money laundering, who has made no secret of the fact that he holds her responsible for "setting him up". And there is the Moonlight Strangler, who she is still determined to identify. There is also a US Marshal who she suspects of being dirty, and who keeps turning up at suspicious times. As attacks on Alexa continue to escalate, Levi and the others scramble to figure out who is really behind them. Options begin to narrow as the book progresses, and the final confrontation reveals all in a very intense standoff. There's an interesting and somewhat creepy resolution that pushes some things off to the next book.
"Trouble with a Badge" is the third book in the Appaloosa Pass Ranch series. With the first book having focused on Addie (the only Crockett sister) and the second focusing on Jericho (the oldest Crockett brother), this book focuses on the next brother, Levi Crockett. Having just transferred from the San Antonio Police Department to the Appaloosa Pass sheriff's department, Levi is hoping to use his time to solve the Moonlight Strangler case. Unfortunately, only weeks in to his new job, Levi gets called to a bar by Alexa Dearborn, a PI who has been in witness protection and preparing to testify against a big-time criminal. Of course, Alexa has her own history with the Crockett family, as they blame her for the death of Levi's sister-in-law, Paige.
This book is very similar to the previous two in the series, in that the lead character/lawman (Levi) is put in to a situation where he has to protect Alexa, and enlists the help of his brothers to do so. While I liked this book more than the first one, I still enjoyed Jericho's story more. While I liked Levi in the previous book, he was fairly generic in this one; as well, he and Alexa weren't as interesting of a couple and their ending was cheesy and unbelievable.
Regardless, the author has once again written an action packed, suspenseful addition to the Appaloosa Pass Ranch series. This book has also brought the series a step closer to solving the Moonlight Strangler case, and I've found myself invested in that overall storyline. It also set up the storyline of the next book with Chase and April in witness protection. Overall, an interesting instalment that will keep readers invested in the series.
Levi is sent a tip but when he follows that tip he finds the one woman he doesn't want to see..the one woman that his family blames for his brothers ex wife's death..They have to hide and go on the run to stay away from who is after them..Such a good book with a page turning twist at every turn!
