Fossen has definitely created a hard hitting and emotionally draining novel that was also light, fun and smoking hot. The way that she melded the different parts of the plot together allowed me to truly experience every aspect while also falling in love with the characters. I also enjoyed the way that the writing changed pace to highlight the current action of the tale. I will say that I was absolutely flabbergasted by the things discussed in front of the children as if they weren’t even there. But at the same time it worked with the story.
The way that Lucky sees himself is actually quite ironic. His hangups were precious yet his past hurts were heartbreaking. Cassie & her F-word were hilarious. It made me giggle every single time. She was all sweet to Lucky’s strong. I loved the way that their personalities meshed while never overtaking one another. I also really enjoyed the way that the children were developed throughout. They weren’t simply there, but rather were prominent players in what was going on at the McCord Ranch.
This novel was a whole lot of fun and full of real romance. It is a fantastic read for lovers of contemporary western romance, whether or not they’ve read the 1st novel in the series.

Lucky is the second McCord brother to decide to change his life and settle down. It takes a hand from the grave to bring about the change. Cassie has her own past to try to get over. It takes two children and a lot of love to get them to their HEA. Book three will be out in October of 2016 and will feature the third and last McCord brother, Logan.

Good book. Emotional, funny, and sexy. Lucky is a rodeo bull rider and lives the free and easy life. He is quite the ladies' man. The book opens with Lucky at the bedside of his friend and business partner Dixie Mae. Besides being his partner in a successful business, she has been like a mother to him since his own passed away. Her death hits him hard, as does the surprise she has waiting for him in her will. He has been given joint custody of two children, along with Dixie Mae's granddaughter, Cassie. Cassie left Spring Hill as soon as she could, escaping from a less than ideal childhood. She has become a therapist to the rich and famous in LA. But she drops it all to come home and fulfill her grandmother's dying request.
Lucky and Cassie are shocked to be paired together in the guardianship of the two girls. Lucky had a huge crush on Cassie when they were in school, but she wouldn't give him the time of day. He always thought she disapproved of his wild ways. Cassie avoided him in high school because she always sensed that he could easily derail her plans to get away, and she didn't want to take that chance.
I loved the pairing of Lucky and Cassie. Both of them have issues that keep them from believing that they deserve to be happy. Lucky carries an immense amount of guilt over the deaths of his parents, believing that he is responsible for what happened to them. Cassie is suffering from panic attacks, brought on by her feelings of guilt over the death of one of her clients. In letters to each of them, Dixie Mae has tasked them with showing the other that their guilt is misplaced.
Neither Lucky nor Cassie believes that they are the right people to care for two young girls, but both step up to the plate to do so. At first they are determined to find the next of kin, someone better qualified to take care of the girls, but quickly find themselves growing attached. Though neither thinks they have what it takes, it was really sweet to see how they bond with the girls. Four year old Mia wiggles into their hearts with her cuteness and belief in the magic she expects from them. Thirteen year old MacKenzie tugs at their hearts with the tough girl exterior that hides a vulnerable heart. I especially loved seeing Lucky have to deal with a teenage girl who was so much like him (though he refused to see it). It was really great to see his protective instincts kick in when MacKenzie started having boy problems. I ached for them as they prepared to give up the girls to their aunt.
I loved seeing the relationship develop between Cassie and Lucky. He is a love them and leave them guy, keeping all relationships very shallow. He doesn't quite know how to deal with it when he finds that what he experiences with Cassie is more than just lust. I loved seeing him deal with unexpected jealousy when her ex-boyfriend showed up. Cassie knew from the beginning that her heart was in jeopardy. At first she tried resisting his advances, but it was a losing battle. It was fun to see her decide to just go with it, accept that she'd get her heart broken, and enjoy whatever time she had with him. She didn't expect to actually fall in love with him. I loved her courage in declaring her feelings, and how she made him work to actually win her in the end.
There were fun places that lightened the serious moments. Cassie's grief at the loss of her grandmother, and having to deal with her scumbag father, were countered by the great cat caper. I also loved the way that Dixie Mae knew her son so well, and left him the "inheritance" that he so deserved. It was also pretty amusing to see Lucky have to deal with the consequences of his reputation with the various women that he encountered, at the same time that he was trying to deal with his feelings for Cassie. I also loved seeing him deal with his "fatherly" feelings when he came to MacKenzie's rescue.
Secondary characters were also well done. Cassie's father was definitely one that was easy to dislike, with his entitled attitude. Csssie's ex, Andrew, was another one to dislike. His condescending attitude toward Lucky made him seem quite the snob. I also hated his attitude toward Cassie, and was really glad when she finally developed enough backbone to stand up to him. But my favorites were Mia, MacKenzie and Dixie Mae. Dixie Mae was rough around the edges, blunt, but also loved deeply. I really enjoyed her legacies to everyone, and her beyond the grave meddling. Mia and MacKenzie were wonderful. I liked seeing the changes they went through, thanks to the love and attention they received from Cassie and Lucky. MacKenzie was especially appealing with her teenage attitude. I could see the trouble coming her way with her "relationship" with Brody.
I liked seeing the other members of the family, especially Logan. We learned a little more about how his parents' death affected him. I am looking forward to reading his story.

Lucky McCord, at 33 is an aging bull rider and a ladies’ man. But when his beloved rodeo promoter friend Dixie Mae Weatherall, on her deathbed, told him of an unusual bequest, he had no inkling of what it could be. Dixie had only two living relatives: her estranged son and her granddaughter Cassie. Lucky has had a crush on Cassie since high school, but she always ignored him even when he tried to flirt; Lucky thought she hated him for some unknown reason. When Lucky meets the lawyer after Dixie Mae’s death, he learns that Cassie was also mentioned and Dixie Mae played a dirty trick on both of them. They have been granted custody of two children, and neither of them is equipped to deal with the situation. Lucky never stays at on place for long, his life knows no stability, and Cassie, a therapist, is prone to panic attacks. So until they find a permanent solution, they both will have to live at Lucky’s brother ranch and take care of the children.
LONE STAR NIGHTS is built upon a somewhat familiar premise, however the surprise lies in the wonderfully ingenious execution: said children were not at all what I expected, and both are superb characters. I’m not especially fond of stories featuring children, but this book is clearly a wonderful exception. The banter between Lucky and Cassie is exceptionally clever and quite funny, as is the writing overall, even when the situation is dramatic, as in Dixie May dying, where some ridiculous detail cannot escape Lucky’s vigilant eye. I also enjoyed very much the interactions between Lucky and his brothers; it all sounded very real and avoided the usual family issues. The inheritance also includes six cats, and this far from being a silly subplot is an occasion to delve into Cassie’s background, and explains a lot.
I loved both Lucky and Cassie, they made a formidable couple, and their growing relationship felt entirely genuine. Ms. Fossen has perfect timing: everything happened when it should have, the right way, and this does not mean LONE STAR NIGHTS progressed as expected, far from it. The story flows beautifully, there is not a single dull moment, the writing is flawless, relaxed and eloquent, with humorous touches throughout, and quite a few chuckles along the way, as well as a few harrowing revelations from Cassie's past. LONE STAR NIGHTS is a book I felt comfortable with from the first page until the lovely last sentence. This is the sort of book where you feel you want to thank and hug the author for enriching your life. LONE STAR NIGHTS is a fantastic read, and I cannot wait for the next book in the series.
At the end, we are given a very special gift, the prequel to The McCord Brothers series COWBOY TROUBLE, which is at least as fabulous. Rico Callaghan worked his way up to managing a cattle operation, but he never belonged to Natalie London’s world. They had gotten married twelve years before, but Natalie split after one week to go back to her daddy. Because her daddy always won. And there she is, after all this time, back in Spring Hill. She is still as gorgeous as ever and still makes Rico’s broken heart beat faster. But she has disturbing news: their divorce papers were never filed, they are still married! Delores Fossen has given the familiar plot an extremely clever twist, and again I knew I was in for a terrific story. Albeit short, COWBOY TROUBLE has it all: vivid descriptions, superb writing, depth of characters, explosive chemistry between Rico and Natalie, and one of the best and most realistic sex scenes I have ever read; an absolute delight! My only complaint is I feel it could have easily been turned into a full-length novel. COWBOY TROUBLE is a quick read and for this reason, it is not to be missed. Absolutely wonderful!

Lots of humor, engaging characters and enjoyable dialogue are some of the things to look forward to in this installment of the McCord Brothers.
Lucky McCord considers himself the screw-up of the McCord family and has played it up by living a fast and loose lifestyle until now. His business partner has died and her last request was for him have joint custody of two children with her granddaughter until a more permanent solution can be found for them. A difficult proposition considering that Lucky prefers to keep his visits home brief and add in the fact that his co-guardian is the one person who wouldn't give him the time of day, it's shaping up to be a trying period for Lucky.
Cassie Weatherall is not in a good place. Plagued by the loss of a client and the resulting fallout, coming back to Spring Hill to share guardianship duties with Lucky is not ideal, but for her grandmother she'll do it and hope that she can successfully keep Lucky at a distance.
I enjoyed everything about this story and it's not just about the growing romance between Lucky and Cassie and their parenting skills or lack thereof. It's the children, the town, the relationships and interactions, the secondary characters and my favorite by far was Dixie Mae.
Ms. Fossen did an amazing job with the writing and I found myself bursting into loud laughter several times as I read this book. I think LONE STAR NIGHTS is perfect for anyone looking for a laugh and some small town fun.

Delightful and entertaining mix of life's drama and triumph.
As soon as Lucky's friend, mentor, and business partner, Dixie Mae, died, his life was turned upside down, like hurricane force wind, nothing was in control, and everything was a chaotic mess.
Cassie and Lucky are kindred spirits, even though so different in their characters and lifestyle. But they have a connection, more than just knowing each other all their lives, and growing up in the same town. The bond they have, goes deeper than either is ready to admit, the chemistry between them is palpable and visual for all to see.
I loved them together, the support they gave each other came naturally to them. They genuinely liked each other, had fun together, and enjoyed each other's company.
And with the kids, they were an instant family. Who wouldn't fall in love with Mia and her magic stars, and MacKenzie's teenage angst is easy to understand, and even relate to. Though chaos seemed to shadow every moment of their lives, with each other, they have a safe haven, where they could take a moment to breath.
The story breaks your heart a bit, there's pain, sorrow, and regrets. Feelings that goes so deep, are so raw, that they will leave scars, as they heal. The loss of Dixie Mae, the loss of parents, the lack of them, the past failures, defeats, they all are carrying their own, and shared, troubles. But the tale is not just blues and sadness, there's growth, redemption, and healing. The joy of life, often delivered by delightful Mia, or Lucky, and the passion to find a place in life, somewhere, where they belong, and wanted in, and want to build their lives in.
The subtle humor that riddled the story is brilliant, it brings light into the moments of despair, and laughter to the moments of jubilation.
To fit so many emotions, feelings, and so much life into one story, with characters you fall in love with, and want to spend time with, events that touch your heart and mind, makes you shed a tear, and laugh out loud, to deliver such a sensational knockout, deserves only the highest score

Lucky has been trying to get past his parents passing his whole life. His twin Logan decided to be a perfectionist, if somewhat controlling individual. Whereas Lucky decided to be a playboy bull-rider. But when the closest women he has to a mother, since his owns passing, ends up dying he thought that that would be the worst part of his week. But Dixie Mae had a few surprises put into place for her passing. The first of which was a way to get Lucky and Cassie in a room together longer then it took for her will to be read. This surprise will either make him get past his own traumas or add more problems onto his already turbulent life.
Cassie has her own problems to deal with, the beginning of which was her being in a institution to get help. But when her grandmother passed she thought the only heartache would be having to say goodbye to her grandmother. Not the surprise that her grandmother left for her and Lucky. But now that her plans seem to be put on hold, will she be able to move on past her own life problems or will this walk down memory lane, and possible future lane, make Cassie have a real mental breakdown.
This was a great romance story that is packed with spicy and sweet scenes. Through the problems of becoming a guardian of two children, having your own mental drawbacks, and finding that true happiness is not looking out for just yourself but for those that you care about.
Ms. Delores Fossen has made yet another great novel that you will not want to miss out on. I have loved all of her books and this one is no different. I love the McCord brothers and so will you.

Who wouldn’t want to get Lucky with Lucky McCord?
Despite Cassie’s reluctance to get involved, she would.
Lucky for her (pun intended), he’s up for a little playtime himself. The question is can they stop before they cross the line into something more?
Of course they can’t. That’s why it’s a romance novel. A good one at that.
I think Dixie Mae is my favorite character and she didn’t live that long. She definitely left a legacy, amongst a lot of other things, which brings me to the story.
Nice setup.
Well-developed characters.
Funny dialogue.
I must admit, Cassie’s interactions with Andrew (her pushy ex) bugged me. As a therapist she was too much of a pushover for a minute there. But she finally got her backbone so I didn’t completely write her off.
I fancied Lucky. His whole thing with spelling is too cute, and he has a way with words himself. I couldn’t wait to see how things would unfold with him and the kids. Of course I knew he (and Cassie) would grow to love them, but I so looked forward to see how he’d handle the challenges. He did a good job. They both did, but I of course, was more focused on Lucky.
Mason-Dixon needs a big whipping. His relationship with his mom (Dixie-Mae) may not have been good, but it sure as hell was funny. The book was funny. Not a comedy, but great dialogue. It’s what really kept me turning the pages.
The romance itself could’ve used a little work. It sometimes came across as somewhat forced and unrealized. And then boom! Right out of nowhere they are in love enough to marry. Ok, maybe so, but something was missing.
Overall it’s a pretty good story. Definitely lots of laughs.

I loved the first line and that just made me want to keep reading. Cassie and Lucky are thrown together when they are both left with custody of two girls. Lucky is the bad boy of the family with a reputation. Cassie has always known he would be a bad idea. This was a fun read. There are some funny points and I enjoyed it.

Delores Fossen nailed it once again with 3 stories in this series of the McCord brothers. Riley, Lucky, and Logan. They couldn’t be more different but they each stole a piece of my heart fighting for the women they love and the lives they each want to lead. Spring Hill, TX is a small town full of characters who love to gossip about each other all the while adding spins to the truth to make for a fun and heartwarming town. After a family tragedy, Logan easily falls into place taking over the family cattle broking business and “raising” his baby sister Anna, younger brother Riley and his twin brother Lucky. Supporting characters like the Nederland’s and even Deputy Dweeb bring humor and light to each novel. Even the leading ladies have colorful and faithful best friends who stand by their sides, and honestly, I wanted to reach out and high five those gals for their unbashful ways! I can’t recommend this series enough! I laughed, I cried, I often shouted “hell, yeah” or “ohhhhh, hell no”, and hope the following review will encourage you take the journey with all 3 sexy and charming McCord brothers.

I suppose celebrities have their share of mental issues, but Cassie' job as a celebrity therapist came off as pandering to ridiculous self-centeredness. Not sure why a smart woman would find that career fulfilling. Her family history would have been enough to make her a little screwed up, but on top of that, she’s had a crisis with a client and, oh, yeah, her boring, manipulative boyfriend had her committed to a mental institution.
Which is where she is when she finds out her grandmother (Dixie Mae) has died. She goes home to deal with that and gets the surprise of her life in the form of Dixie Mae’s will—and, of course, Lucky.
The way Lucky changed over the course of the story *was* the story in my opinion and had a lot to do with the two kids he’s put in charge of with Cassie. The romance was secondary but certainly yummy. Loved the way the author described things and drew out the moment, and the dialogue (internal and external) was very well done. The ‘climax’ was a little disappointing; Cassie asks him for “one thing” but he doesn’t know what it is. I was expecting some big, grand gesture.
Great complexity in this story. The character of Dixie Mae was as large as life even though she was dead. There was the nasty character working against them; Cassie’s sex-crazed client (as well as the above-mentioned boyfriend); the clueless yet pompous small-town cop; the women Lucky had to sweet-talk and dine/wine; the supportive McCord characters (prepping for an upcoming wedding); the long-lost aunt who comes to claim the kids… and of course the two kids. They nearly stole the show from the romance between Lucky and Cassie (only a marriage proposal could top that!).

Fun but the details were just so off - I was constantly thinking "that's not how therapists work," "that's not how people are committed to mental hospitals," "that's not how the law works," "that's not how child custody works," etc. It really cut into any ability to enjoy the book - just felt sloppy.

The timeline for the romance felt pretty realistic. The whole book takes place over the span of about a month, all the while Cassie and Lucky slowly admit their feelings for each other. It also gives ample time for them to build a bond with the girls. While there is an instant attract between them, the story's goal isn't to get naked instantly which I liked. There were a couple things that bugged me. Cassie and Lucky had this constant need to have someone physically keep an eye on the girls. Mia might need more supervising than Makenzie, but they don't need someone to hold their hands all the time. They won't spontaneously combust. The paparazzi photos were just ridiculous. Even in a gossip magazine, who is going to care about a photo of a nobody 13 year old kissing a boy? Cassie and Lucky are both adults and she has been separated from Andrew for awhile. They are allowed to kiss too. I just don't see how it would damage her career. She's allowed a personal life and as it happened people love new romances. And then there's Andrew, whose whole existence I wasn't sure about. He broke up with her and committed her but feels a strange sense of obligation to her? I don't get it. Unless he was trying to ride on her celebrity curtails.

Lone Star Nights is an absolutely heartwarming addition to Delores Fossen's The McCord Brothers series.
Following the death of his close friend and business partner Dixie Mae, bull rider Lucky McCord is stunned to discover that he is sharing guardian duties with her granddaughter, Cassie Weatherall. Although Lucky is immediately charmed by four year old Mia Compton, he is disconcerted by the similarities between himself and her thirteen year old sister Mackenzie. While Cassie and Lucky try to track down the girls' relatives, they move into Lucky's childhood home on the family ranch. Complications quickly ensue as both Cassie and Lucky try to avoid the ghosts of their pasts and their sizzling attraction to one another.
Despite his partnership with Dixie Mae, Lucky lives a pretty footloose and fancy free life. He does not want to become involved with the family business and his visits home are short lived. The death of his parents continues to haunt him and Lucky feels guilty over his perceived role in the car accident that took their lives. He is very charming and well-liked by the ladies, but he is always upfront that he is not looking for a relationship. Although Lucky hopes to find a relative to take Mia and Mackenzie, he is surprised by his reaction when it appears the girls won't remain with him and Cassie on a permanent basis.
Cassie is the middle of personal crisis when she gets the news about her grandmother. A celebrity therapist who appears on numerous talk shows, she is plagued with panic attacks when she is under stress. Cassie is also having trouble extricating herself from her last relationship. Instead of standing up to her ex when he unexpectedly shows up at the ranch, she continues to let him make decisions for her. However she does find her backbone when it comes to dealing with her father and it is extremely gratifying watching him get exactly what he deserves! Cassie is also surprisingly honest with Lucky and although she risks getting her heart broken, she does not let him take the easy way out when it comes to their future.
Although it is wonderful watching Cassie and Lucky fall in love, Mia and Mackenzie are the heart and soul of Lone Star Nights. Mackenzie is surly and hides her heartbreak behind heavy make-up and a perpetual bad attitude. Mia is absolutely darling and she charms everyone she meets. Initially, Mackenzie tries to hold everyone at arm's length but she slowly but surely begins letting down her guard. She still remains prickly and standoffish but little glimpses of affection give both Cassie and Lucky hope that she will eventually trust them.
With a multi-faceted cast of lovable characters and an entertaining storyline, Lone Star Nights is a sensual romance that is poignant yet humorous. Heartfelt and engaging, this captivating novel is sure to be a hit with old and new fans of Delores Fossen's The McCord Brothers series.

I fell in love with this author from the first book I picked up of hers nothing has changed she is still writing the best books with wonderful touching plots which pull you in making you smile, laugh and at times gives you watery eyes. There is such passion in her writing with wonderful characters you can relate to. I just adore Dixie Mae with her hard core attitude but has a heart of gold she keeps well hidden. She is one smart who will leave you laughing all the way to the end where you will find a big surprised that will make you laugh out loud for a while.
Lucky’s past has haunted him for years it is one of the reason he does what he does. He is kind of a standalone character with a love them and leave them attitude. Everyone in his family has their place with him feeling lost and sometimes alone. Dixie Mae has always been a type of mother to him, maybe a little rough around the edges but a mother type the same. There is nothing he wouldn’t do for her. Her last request has him cursing all the way but he will do as she ask, doesn’t mean he will like it or not try to find a way out of it.

With things out of her control that has her second guessing her actions along with a father who never was one she looks to Dixie Mae for the love she never had from him. There isn’t anything she wouldn’t do for this women when her last request is placed before her she is shocked and using the F-word more than she should which is very cute with little ones around she tries her best to clean up the language which with Lucky might take some doing.
Both Lucky and Cassie are attracted to each other Cassie just never gave in she won’t be another notch on his bed post. Dixie Mae may know more than she ever let on with two children they will have to take care of. Yes, it's the second book in a series but it is 100% a stand alone, so don't let that turn you off from this. I haven't read the first one, let alone anything by Delores Fossen, but I absolutely loved this one. I actually read it during my daughter's dance class this week and thoroughly enjoyed it!
It's the story of Lucky McCord, who co-runs a rodeo business with Dixie Mae Weatherall. He's not so much a bad boy but rather a boy who doesn't keep it in his pants, harbors guilt over his parents' death years ago and is at a bit of a crossroads in life. Once Dixie Mae passes away he's in for a ridiculous surprise, as is Dixie Mae's granddaughter, Cassie, when they find out that they are now the custodial guardians of two children Dixie Mae was temporarily caring for. A surprise to both of them, mostly because neither are in a point in their life making them capable (or willing) to take on children, let alone do it together. We get lots of surprises along the way complete with six cats, a moody teenager, dildo delivery, strip clubs, not to mention Lucky and Cassie trying to heal from past mistakes in their own lives and maybe come together for their future, and do what's best for the girl's.
I didn't want to love Cassie but yet I did. She's got her own issues as a therapist no less, including panic attacks brought on by guilt over the handling of a previous client, a meddling ex-boyfriend, paparazzi, and a highly dysfunctional family. Lucky is lovable because he is so that guy you know you want to fix because he's kind of broken but a diamond in the rough. And the girls... oh lord. The younger one, Mia, is cute as a damn button and the teenager, Kenzie, is kind of the angry hot mess that you know is really gentle and in need of guidance and love. Such a great combination of characters for this story. Not to mention Dixie Mae's surprises from beyond the grave are kind of great as well.
I loved this book and all of the secondary characters, some of who will be future books (I'm sure) and some who were in book one (I'm sure) are in here and they are given enough teaser that makes you want to go back and read the first book but also stay tuned for the rest of them. Delores's writing is really superb and she's a great romance novelist that gives you everything you want in a fun book: humor, sexy times, good story line, and that little extra that leaves you wanting more.

Spring Hill Texas is a town where everyone knows everyone else and their business. Lucky McCord is a bull riding cowboy who has lived his life doing what he does best wrangle bulls in the ring and bedding as many woman as he can outside of it. He is hot, hot, hot and the ladies don't mind warming his bed. He is partners with Dixie Mae Weaterall in Weatherall-McCord stock show and rodeo promotions. He has come back home because Dixie Mae is dying. She leaves him with a letter that tells him to call a lawyer after her death.
Cassie Weatherall is Dixie Mae's granddaughter and is a celebrity therapist who lives in LA and is having to have therapy herself after one of her patients kills herself . Mia and Mackenzie Compton have had a really rough life shoved from pillar to post with no roots and not feeling loved or wanted they soon figure out that Cassie and Logan don't want them either. They are only trying to put up with them until they can find someone else to take them. Mackenzie is 13 going on 40 and a handful. Mia is four and just a doll.
These are just a few of the characters in this book, there are a lot more that will have you laughing one minute and crying the next. Ms. Fossen has written a story that will grab you at the first page and not let you go until you read the last page.Her character development and plot structure are beyond good. I read a lot and haven't read a book with this many characters that all have their place and bring the whole story to life in a long time.
You have to read this book you will not be disappointed with the story or the author. Oh and lets not forget the six cats and Dixie Mae's son Mason-Dixon. You will love that one.
