Kangaroo at the Zoo

Rate this book
A lively story with irresistible illustrations, this book is a delight to share with very young children. It can also be enjoyed by children who are beginning to read for themselves. The simple rhyming text helps to develop essential language and early reading skills, and there are guidance notes for parents at the back of the book. Please ask if you need a specific version. Format: Picture book

Summary:
When Kangaroo first arrives at the zoo, she causes some chaos with her jumping. It soon comes in handy, though, when a baby monkey gets stuck high up in a tree. Kangaroo bounces until she bumps the tree hard enough to knock the baby monkey out, and catches the monkey safely in her pouch.

Why I chose this book:
This is a great phonics book, with minimal rhyming text to help build vocabulary. It’s also a lot of fun to read aloud, and the accompanying illustrations are funny as well. What kid doesn’t love the zoo? In addition to learning phonics, it’s a great way to talk about different animals and learn about each of them.

More of a rhyming text than a focus on 'oo' sounds specifically. Kangaroo is new to the zoo and gets into a bit of trouble but her pouch comes in handy when baby monkey falls out of a tree.

Miss 4 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.

Fun and quick read for bedtime with good rhyming. If I have to pick a book for bedtime these are more fun for me to read to my daughter because of the rhyming.

Pretty mediocre effort. I think the Russell Punter books in this series are stronger than the Lesley Sims ones.

A wonderfully written rhyming book! Kangaroo is new, scares a baby monkey, and in the end is the hero.
