Bloggers Can't Be Trusted

Rate this book
Nyela Barnes is a respected entertainment journalist who seemingly has it all, but the luster of her once fulfilling career has started to fade. With pseudo writers and social media stars continuing to water down the art of real reporting and her boss at Spark magazine micromanaging her every move, Nyela is desperately in need of a change.
The idea of chasing a new dream of becoming a screenwriter reignites Nyela’s fire, but her world gets turned upside down when she starts a romance with Olu Major, the hottest actor-turned-rapper in the game. Overnight, she goes from being the one telling the story to being the story, as her name becomes the source of gossip blog fodder.

Supported by her talented, zany friends and quirky family, Nyela is determined to figure out the identity of anonymous blogger Chatty Abernathy, who seems hell-bent on destroying her reputation and budding relationship.

Starr killed it with her debut. The characters were a little too real for me here, especially because art often imitates life. They were vibrant, a little over-the-top on the surface, but as you get deeper, they start to unfold.

Umm, girl. We're going to need a sequel :)

Crazy

This book was good, trashy, messy and funny all bundled in a package! I laughed, shook my head and laughed some more.

Few times have I read a book that I didn't want to end. It takes great writing and imagination to craft characters who you can relate to to the point that you feel like you know them. That's how I felt when reading Bloggers Can't Be Trusted. I was literally talking back to the characters while reading! (don't judge me! LOL) The surprise ending was definitely a surprise as I was trying to figure out who the secret blogger was the whole time and kept falling flat. I've told all of my friends about this book. It took me back to the Eric Jerome Dickey/ Omar Tyree days of good, relatable novels written with black culture as the centerpiece. Loved it!

Maaaaaan, listen. As a black woman writer in NYC who is in the media, I feel all the feels with this book. Ha! And really, even beyond that, it's just good. I can totally see this as a movie. Michael B. Jordan, you have a calling here as the main love interest. It has sex, NYC life, contemporary stuff, and it's just super enthralling. I def recommend copping it.

Fun Read

Starrene wove together a tale that was fast paced and fun to read with each chapter growing more entertaining. I don't think you'll be disappointed by her portrayal of the entertainment industry. Enjoy! I certainly did.

This was a good read. It definitely gives you a different perspective about on gossip bloggers and their crew. I was rooting for Nye and Olu. Thank goodness for happy endings. I can't stand when a book doesn't have a happy ending.

So much DRAMA

Great book! As a blogger the title caught my attention righr away. I loved the romance and the drama. I loved the reality of the struggle of working in the entertainment industry and getting sucked into the mess! Very well written

I really tried

I really tried to like this book but when I don't like the main character it get kind of hard. Nye was just ugh. Her thoughts, her actions were just annoying. I found myself skipping pages. I liked Olu but that was not enough to give this book more than two stars.
