Per l'amore di un gitano

Rate this book

Ora, dopo tre anni, Diane ritorna...

The mother-in-law from hell not only separated her son from his wife but caused him to miss the first two years of their child's life and all he can come up with when he finally gets the evidence of her treachery is "she'll improve." WTF????!!!!!

I hate this trope of AM, hate it, hate it, hate it. Her evil scheming parental characters never get any punishment for their misdeeds, not even a light slap on the wrist, and blithely continue inflicting themselves on their daughter-in-law and grandkids. Probably biding their time to get the opportunity to lock them in the attic and feed them "powdered" donuts some time in the future. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.......

Welcome to the house of freaks!
You can find it in the Camargue, France, if you’re lucky.
There’s an ageless gypsy grandma who sees things and plays ancient rites, and lives in a bedroom sitting in the middle of the bed.
There’s an evil mil who wants to get rid of the naive heroine and is also prone to phisical violence.
There’s a hero dressed like a circus tiger tamer, with velvet pants and matched sleeveless waistcoat with a red shirt (really????). Where’s the whip?
There’s a would be ow, fiancée or would be of the hero, who is crippled by the bulls
Aaaaaand there are very dangerous bulls who gore every person that dare get around them.
So the heroine who’s English some years ago went to Camargue fell in love with the hero and married him in a pagan rite, they made love and the day after he disappeared and his mother went to the heroine telling her he was sorry but it was all for sex.
And she paid heroine to go away.
The heroine was shattered and went back to England where she found out she was pregnant.
Now her child is ill and she needs money, so she goes back to France to ask hero for help.
He thinks she left him without a word and is angry.
She is angry because she thinks he only wanted sex with her.
She doesn’t tell him he had a son.
And between some slaps and many misunderstandings and not said and badly said things we find out the hero had an accident the day after they married so he couldn’t be back to her and his mother did all by herself.
He broke with ow because he never wanted to marry her - apparently.
Eventually another bull gores the hero too and the heroine goes back to him telling he has a child.
The book was old and interesting in a folkloric way.
Much misunderstandings and and some evil characters and aggressive bulls.
I didn’t know in France there is corrida.
Oh, I want to buy a couple of those Camargue bulls and put them in my garden. Then I’ll invite all people I don’t like and see what happens.

What is it with authors dropping the ball on the ending of books?

This is another in my quest to read the first 100 HPs. This one is numbered 54. It was published in 1972 and is the 42nd one I have read so far. It takes place in the Camargue region of France. It mostly dealt with miscommunication. I'm going to blame the hero just a little bit more here. Seriously she asked him 4 or 5 times when he was going to marry the other woman and he never told her he wasn't. And even though she (the OW) was crippled and lived with his family, he clearly had broken up with her years ago. He kinda deserved all the angst he went through. I liked the descriptions of the local area. I liked the heroine generally. I felt that she had a fairly decent reason for the secret baby although not a whole lot of reason to continue the secret. She had come to France to ask for money to take her child to a warmer climate for his health and she managed to bring an oddly extensive wardrobe with her.

So I liked it but the author totally failed on the ending. The OW brought them together. Going out of her way to go to another country and tell the heroine that the hero had been injured nearly unto death by a bull. Sort of I don't want him and now you can't have him because he's dying, ha ha. So the heroine goes running to his side. The second in a row I've read where the heroine makes the final running. There were a couple of things left hanging that I would have liked some clarity on.

Still on the whole worth the read.

h asked H for 200 pounds. The book was written in 1972. The 200 pounds from that time is equivalent to about 3,307 pounds today, which is roughly 3,977 euros. At least one week would be required, meaning the hotel expenses alone would amount to around 700 euros. Let's include food in that as well. With the cost of the flight and car rental, she must have spent over 1,000 pounds. Was it worth swallowing her pride for 2,000-2,200 pounds? LOL

You know how it's pretty standard in HP/M&B romances that the OW gets away with everything? Not this time. Anne Mather did NOT mess around with making sure the OW got what she deserved. I probably wouldn't read it again because one doesn't really need to, but I'm glad I read it.

"The Night of the Bulls" is the story of Dionne and Manoel.

Soooo.. this story had so much potential.

Secret baby trope in which heroine returns back to her hometown to borrow some money from the hero. Ofcourse, she doesnt tell him why, keeps pushing him and her well-wishers away, courts OM even though she's not interested, displays jealousy against OW but still refuses to confess the truth- even when the hero chases her back home. There is a LOT of bull goring in the tale, the hero was sweet and likable, but the sheer miscommunication and mismanagement of every situation by the heroine was annoying. She literally made him suffer for nothing. Pfft.

Safe..ish

A sweet older read.

Dionne comes back to her past and her true love believing she has gotten over him and that he is married.....she needs some money and has been talked into coming to Manoel, as he owes her. She really tries to stay strong and resist the chemistry between them because all the stood between them before still exists, plus she is hiding a secret.

Manoel of course is pissed she is back as he believes she left him but his family has played a big part in their romance and seperation. You can feel how much he still cares for Dionne by his jealous and passionate actions.

Until they actually clear the air and silence his mettling mother there won't be a happy ending but love gets a push from unlikely person.

A very emotional well written read. I just love these older romances with nice sex scenes and clean language as sometimes you just get tied of bed hopping and foul language.

Decent older Harley, too many misunderstandings going on and on. I still don't know whether H was really betrothed to the OW, oh well he didn't end up with her anyway.

The hero and heroine met when they were younger and had a relationship, then the heroine left. When the heroes grandmother asked for the heroine she returned, only to find a very different hero, who was bitter and scarred.

Eventually as the novel goes on, it explains how the heroes mother was malicious and vicious. How she played a part on the heroine leaving and how love may just be able to triumph all. It was a delightful read.

It was only desperation that had brought Dionne back to the Camargue, that remote, still little-known part of southern France that had been so important—and so tragic—a part of her life three years ago.

Back she had to come to the Mas St. Salvador, and to Manoel, who hadn't wanted her before and who had even less reason to want her now. Back to Manoel's old grandmother, who had been fond of her, to Manoel's mother, who had hated her; to Yvonne, who was by now certainly his wife. How could she face them all?

It was only the thought of Jonathan, who needed her and was more important to her than Manoel, that would get her through. For only Manoel could help her and Jonathan now. (less)

My great-aunt gave me this book when I was a teen. She loved romance novels and wanted to share her passion for reading. I must have read this book a half dozen times. I still have the original copy.

Its the rich foreigner and sweet English miss routine. A fling, a kid, a separation, a reunion.

Generally, the heroine comes back looking for the hero because she wants a favour. Here the girl wants some money for the kid. But before you start feeling sorry for the kid assuming he might have a major illness, think again !! The heroine is looking for a loan of 200 pounds so that she can take the kid to a hotter climate , the kid has a cough you see !@?#@?!?@

Never mind the money, the hero is actually ready to do anything to get her back. He never wanted to part from her in the first place. It was the evil mummy, an evil OW and basically evil fate who did the trick the first time round. This time he is smarter, he keeps the girl in front of his eyes and quite regularly keeps telling her how much he wants her !

The girl is also still very much in the "I love him irrespective of what he did to me" phase. So all that she needed to do was figure out the twist of fate parts to their tragic past.

OK read, sweet but tormented hero. Simple, uncomplicated heroine. 3 stars.

The Night of the Bulls

This story would have gotten a higher review but parts of the story were inconsistent. Like why did she only ask for 200£ when all the flying and hotels would be more than that???? The plot was just okay. I kept questioning thru out the story line. Not one of Anne Matter better stories and I have several.

Old Favorite

Loved this book when it was new and it still is one of her best IMHO. Good plot, interesting characters and lovely sexual tension, which I much prefer to full on descriptions.
