One game. A promise. A second chance at life.

Chasey
All I knew was I was most likely going to die. Kidnapped and trapped in the boot of a car, I had no idea what would come next.

Then he came to my rescue. Tall, dark, and broody, he’s not supposed to be my savior. Or at least, that’s what he keeps telling me. Scorch Reed can’t help me survive the mess I’m in. He isn’t the man I should turn to.

But I know things about the former marine that I’m not sure he knows. I made a promise when my brother came home in a box to help this battered and broken husk of a man. He saved me, now it’s my turn.

Scorch
Pretending to be something I’m not is all that I’m good for. Rescuing Chasey was a part of the fantasy game The Vice Agency was paid for. Only we’re playing outside the rules, and she needs a man who can stand up for her.

I can’t be the hero she needs. I’m a dead man living on borrowed time. But the deeper we go into the fantasy the harder it is to keep who I am and who she thinks I am separate. Especially when she might be the only thing to make me want to live again.

Misti Murphy writes sweet and funny, sometimes frustrating and always swoony romantic comedies with just a teensy bit of angst.

When she's not writing she lives in an imaginary world full of happy humans, glitter, and unicorns.

Not that being a mother of four, plus four fur kids isn't practically the same thing. Except when they steal the Tim Tams.

(Kangaroos are practically unicorns, right?)

So this book took me by surprise. I was not really expecting it to be what it was. Chasey is a woman that lives through her romance books as a lot of us tend to do. Her dream guy comes in the form of her brother's friend who tried to save him when they were in Afghanistan and got him out but unfortunately Jon, her brother, still passed. Scorch works for a firm that makes fantasies come true. Some sexual, some not. Chasey's friends pay for him to be her hero. After the initial scenes, he gets the feeling that something's not right and before long, he is protecting Chasey for real. But he doesn't feel like a hero and is ready to walk away. Throughout the book, Scorch fights his inner demons. The plot gets more and more interesting. The chemistry between Chasey and Scorch sizzles and pops. The characters, main and not, reveal themselves to be more than what we thought. The concept behind the book is completely novel to me. For someone who has read hundreds and hundreds of books, being pleasantly surprised doesn't come too often. There is one part that I wasn't all that gung-ho about and that is how the exchange occurs when Chasey and Scorch are first intimate. Other than that, it's golden. I don't want to give too much away because I really think it's a treat but know that I will very enthusiastically be reading more books from this author. : p For my safety gang buddies: Scorch granted many a woman her fantasy as part of his job and its "perks". It's all in the past. There are no OW/OM or sharing. There is mention of a rape. No details divulged.

Arc received in exchange for an honest review.

So it has to be said, when I was contacted by Misti Murphy regarding this story I was a little concerned about the storyline. I'm not a sci fi fan, and that was what my mind kept telling me it would be. So quietly freaking out about having to tell an author who you love you hate their book I began reading.... and well! I can say it was nothing like what my crazy ass mind was telling me, it was freaking awesome. I even had to Facebook Ms Murphy to tell her.

So when I was younger, ( and probably going to to showing my age now,) Kiss Chasey was a game of tag and if you were caught you were were kissed. So the title of this book was very fitting. Set in a game like manor, which was where my fear of sci-fi came from it features two main characters Scorch and Chasey.

Scorch is an ex marine, that was the sole survivor of his team. He everyday relives the fact that he is struggling with the guilt that comes with living while his team faced the ultimate threat. Now he works as an escort for Vice Agency, a company that sells a game of fantasy to those who wish to participate.

Chasey lives inside her hermit world with her romance books and college. She lives with her best friend Molly, who decides for her birthday, (as well as a night out), she will set up a fantasy with the Vice Agency, a company that organises real life fantasies for clients. Get her kidnapped, then get saved by her hero.

It isn't till her life is really put in danger by someone really after her, that Scorch, knows that despite the fact he should hand her over to the authorities turns around to save her again. Constantly on the run, the pair spend time close together, and it is now that the chemistry becomes to much to bear, and they spend a hot night together.

Now with the sexual chemistry dealt with, and Scorch coming clean anout the game, and Chasey having her own ...... about knowing who Scorch really is. He has been the real life fantasy for her since the death of her brother. So with her life in danger, and her want to be his hero, will they both survive a shoot out to end all shootouts or lose each other forever?

With was a wild ride, with plenty of heat, suspense and hot men that had me saying, never ever judge a book by its blurb, cause sometimes the real read seems nothing like it. Super effort and a huge thanks must go to Misti Murphy, who has become a go- to author for me, for Giving me an early opportunity to read and review for her.

Wow that was like a ride I couldn't get off even if I wanted to which I didn't.

Dragged in from the very beginning, it was action packed and I just had to know how it all would end.

You have the cheesy scenario of a girl who loves to read about book boyfriends, locks herself away in her own little virtual reality world and fantasizes about her bbf's, like none of us know how that works?

A little bit about the plot:
Told in dual pov's Chasey is just that girl, since losing her brother and being attacked she finds solace in the world most of us knows so well, curling up with a book and getting lost with the man of her dreams only hers always feature one man.

Chasey has a picture and letter sent from her brother Jonathan a letter telling how his fellow marine friend a friend he claims is a hero who tried to save him, Jonathan wanted Chasey to know this man tried to save him but he lived his life and he wants her to live hers, these his last parting words by letter. The picture of her brothers hero she has kept and keeps it as her book mark, this becomes the face of all her hero's and bbf's.

Reed works for an agency that plays out fantasies kidnappings, heros etc its a high spec agency with a lot of money behind it.

The agency is hired by Chasey 's friends as a birthday treat and this scene or act should go to plan until it doesn't or does it, this is where there are lots of twists in the plot and your brain is ticking over trying to figure things out, one thing for certain there is chemistry.

I loved it, it was very different and exciting, flowed really well, I loved the characters and the plot, the pace was steady or maybe it was fast, I wanted to see what happened so much maybe I read it quicker than most books.

A stand alone with a great HEA

A new author for me and I am really looking forward to more.

I really enjoyed the premise of this story. Hiring a hero to rescue you from a fake emergency is exactly something I would spend money on if I was independently wealthy!! Then for that scenario to go awry and real bad guys start chasing us? Now will he be a real hero, since she's really a damsel in distress? Will he step up or drop her when the bullets start to fly?

As an independent reviewer for Romance Authors that Rock, this would get four and a half hearts if I could figure out how to make it take a half!! The only thing its missing, in my opinion, at least, is more. More action, more time together, more steamy hot sex scenes, more close escapes. More everything!! Yes, I'm greedy!!! When I like a couple I want to spend lots of time with them!

3.5 STARS!

Short and simple review below!

I absolutely loved the premise of this book. The fake kidnapping to fulfill all ladies desires and a man who delivers. Add in some danger...and you have it all.

I loved the characters, the heat they put forth and the balance they provided each other. However, the reason why I did not give it a full 5 stars was due to the ending. When I first started the book I had immediately guessed the ending. It was predictable. I was hoping it would turn out differently...but it failed to deliver. I don't know why, but that ending annoyed the shite out of me!

Overall, recommending this to those that want a little action, romance and passion for an hour or so ;))

Scorch is an ex marine who doesn't believe he deserves love and needs to forgive himself in order to be happy and live the life that he deserves!
Chasey is a young lady who has recently been attacked and has locked herself away in her apartment to try to keep herself safe and she is living in the fantasy world of her books.
In order to help Chasey get over everything that has happened to her her friend Molly buys her a fantasy where she is rescued by a hero.
This book is very well written and the sexual tension between Scorch and Chasey is seriously hot! Even I was drawn into the fantasy and didn't know when it ended, brilliant absolutely brilliant!

I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review. I loved the story. The premise was great. A Vice Agency who make your dreams come true.
Scorch was the perfect badboy hero who didn't think he was. How mistaken was he? I loved the story from beginning to end. The sexual tension was off the pages and it was an enjoyable read.
Another great book from Misti. Five stars.

Misti Murphy - Playing Hero

Maybe because I read this book unaware of what’s on it, or what it (and the entire series) is all about, but I was cringing and frowning when I was reading the first chapters.
Like who does that to a friend? If I were in her shoes I would be seriously pissed I won’t be considering them my friends anymore. I didn’t find the whole concept amusing, but I guess it is a unique plot.
The characters, well, I don’t know how to describe them without feeling ill to the supporting characters.
For the female lead Chasey, she was ok, though there were times that her character’s actions weren’t consistent. I guess what makes me mad with the entire plot, and the other characters, is because I see myself in Chasey. I have my own bubble too, which consists of books, and I don’t see a problem with that. Yes we use the books to escape reality, but not solely because reality sucks (sometimes it is though) or because we are running away (more like procrastinating in my case), but in my case, it’s just simply because it is what I love to do. That is why if I were her, not only would I be mad for my friends for tricking me, making me fear for my life and all that, but I would also be hurt that because it simply means that they don’t understand me. Most of the friend intervention I’ve read includes getting a haircut or a makeover and going to a bar after, and not put you in danger mentally and emotionally.
For Scorch, he’s also like a whiplash, though he also got swoon worthy times. I just wished he was more firm with his stand and not leading Chasey on.
The ending was sweet, although I didn’t agree being ok with her friends again, I thought it was too soon, but all’s well that ends well, I guess.

I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I loved it. I can't think of a better way to start this review than with my first thought when I finished the book. This was my first Misti Murphy book and I wasn't sure what to expect. Let's just say I definitely want to read more of her work. The story line is creative and keeps you guessing. There were some things I had an inkling about and others that were a complete surprise to me. Personally, I love a book that can surprise me, so I was happy about that. One thing I particularly enjoyed about this book is how closely I felt I was able to relate to Chasey and even Scorch. In a lot of books I find myself wanting to face palm at some of the ways the heroine (or hero) behaves or reacts to various situations. It can really get on my nerves sometimes (especially when I feel I would've responded completely differently, and perhaps more logically). I didn't feel any of that annoyance with Chasey. While no, I don't feel like we are the same people or that I would've made exactly her decisions, the ones she did make either closely lined up to those I'd make myself or I was able to really see and relate to why she made a particular decision. I think that is an invaluable quality for an author to be able to create in a character. I even felt that I was able to relate to Scorch. While I have never been in his position and I have never known someone who was in his exact position, I have known someone in a somewhat similar situation. Survivor's guilt can be an awful thing and can be, understandably, horribly difficult to cope with. Sometimes there's nothing anyone can say or do that will change the way you view the situation (as with other types of guilt I'm sure we've all experienced, even if not at that level). So, on a whole, I thought the way Chasey was able to help him see past that was a wonderful thing. I also like that, despite their methods, they both had people who cared about them enough to see what they needed and go to some lengths to help them recover (even if their methods might have something to be desired). On a whole, however, it was great to ride along with them on their adventure. The book was exciting and kept me guessing at times. It's a story of two people overcoming their fears and finding a way to live again, to love. The book has an incredibly HEA ending with no cliffhanger (which I'd expect as this is a standalone novel, but is good to mention nonetheless). This was an absolutely excellent book and I'd recommend it to any romance lover who likes a bit of adventure, danger, and intrigue mixed in. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did!

Wow, amazing story of Scorch and Chasey. I have not read a book with a storyline such as this one, it kept me engrossed and hard to put this book down. Misti Murphy is an amazing writer and I enjoyed this story and will be looking forward to reading more of her work.

Chasey had been dealing with lot of negative happenings in her life for the last few years. Three years prior her brother was killed in Afghanistan, then last year she was assaulted. Her friends Molly and Harry have been by her side to help her emotionally, but she is becoming more into seclusion and reads romance books. Molly teases Chasey about her obsession with her book and her bookmark. Her bookmark is a handsome friend of her brother Jonathan during his time in the marines.

On her birthday her friends make an effort and bring her out with them to celebrate. She is reluctant to go. After leaving the club, Chasey feels funny and is having a hard time keeping her eyes open. When a man comes up to her and escorts her to his vehicle she is to out of it to know right or wrong. In the morning she is rescued by a very hot motorcycle driver that happens to see her abductor and herself on the side of the road.

It comes to the attention of Scorch that Chasey does not know she is in a fantasy kidnapping. Scorch starts to drive Chasey home when she decides she doesn't want to go home. Soon enough they are going the opposite direction. Scorch soon finds that someone is after Chasey. He attempts to get help so she doesn't get hurt, but they get ambushed by men that he doesn't know what is happening in her life to attract these men to come after her. Can Scorch become a real hero?
Scorch was with Chasey's brother in Afghanistan and was the only survivor. Since then he blames himself for the ambush and has believed he should be dead and everyone else should have survived.

There are so many twist and turns in this story, when you think you figured out what was going on there is another twist. Amazing read.

Who wouldn’t want to meet the ultimate book boyfriend who rescues her? I know this book whore would, even if it was only supposed to be a game. What would you do though if the game turns into reality and the one you are calling a hero feels anything but one and even though he tries to turn his back on you, can’t and starts to feel more for you than he should? I have only read two books by this author so far, this being the second but let me tell you, I am loving the way she adds twists and turns in along the way that make you wonder what’s real, what is not that you are left trying to figure it all out as if you were in the game yourself.

Scorch and Chasey have a connection, one that isn’t known right away. One that is so much more that hey game that they are supposed to be playing. You know Chasey is going through something, working it out but not living. Scorch is suffering as well, his is something that has totally shut him down in other ways. The more that unfolds, the more questions you have even while reading some pretty hot and sexy scenes. When the full picture is revealed, you can’t help but feel anger on both Chasey and Scorch’s parts, as well as the feeling that had what happen needed to be done even if it wasn’t necessarily the way most of us would have done it. Relationships are tested, wounds begin to heal, and you can’t help but continue to read to see if love can conquer all.

Kiss Chasey exceeded any expectations I had when I first started it. I was on the edge of my seat, needing to know why the things that happen, happened. I was hoping that Chasey and Scorch would find their happily ever after and move forward together. If you haven’t read anything by Misti Murphy yet, don’t wait any longer, this is an author that this book whore will be keeping her eye on and patiently waiting to see what she gives us readers next.

*I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.*

This book was super good and creative! I haven’t really read one with the same storyline, so it was really interesting watching it unfold. There was a lot of action, but plenty of romance, as well. Scorch was a HOT military man with a very interesting job. He was Chasey's knight in shining armor, but an ass at the same time. Chasey was a hermit living in fantasy worlds her books provided. Both have damaged pasts that led to their current lifestyles. There was a lot of sexual tension and resistance between them. There were good steamy scenes with all of the sexual tension building up. It was hard to wait for them! Watching their relationship develop kept the pages turning!

There’s a super big twist, but ahhhh, it drove me crazy! Their reactions to the twist are what brought the rating down a star. I can't believe how fast they let the anger and grudges go! I would have created the ultimate guilt trips and kept them going for a long time. I can see myself being a paranoid mess after that. I definitely wasn’t expecting it to happen!

Overall, I recommend reading this! It’s one of those that I can’t wait to get home from work and start reading again! Misti doesn’t disappoint!

Oh my freaking God! I loved this book, every single minute of it.
The adrenaline, and the suspense will keep you on your toes until the end. The hurt, the passion, the memories, all this thing will make your heart race, and you will want to protect them and you will want to help them to figure out what it's happening. Why they are chasing her, why the want to kill him, why??!!!
Chasey and Scorch ( I need to be honest, I hate his name) are fuel and sparkles. They match so perfectly, that it's amazing, they are so natural and fresh that you will what to be inside the book and try to help them to find a solution. Really this book was so easy to read, and keep reading, and wanting more when the last page was in front of me. you will no know what it's tru and what is fake until the end, and even the end keeps you expecting something more to happen right there.
Really Misti, you're a freaking genius! I'm so happy to be able to read this book before it's released!

I was lucky enough to be gifted this ARC in exchange for an honest review. I really don't want to give away too much (which is going to be hard for me) as it's best you as a reader go in blind & enjoy the journey & what a journey it is the excitement & fast paced action had me on the edge of my seat at times wondering what was going on, in this book we're introduced to Chasey who has been living like a hermit after being attacked & Scorch an ex marine who although has been living life he's been dealing with a lot of inner turmoil they're brought together for one wild journey which has them both falling for each other & seeing life differently there's soo much I want too say but I don't want to spoil a thing but what I will say is I can't recommend this book enough it had the perfect mix of suspense, action, sexual tension, lust & love.

This book was totally different from anything I've read before and highly enjoyable.

Scorch Reed is an ex marine unable to forgive himself for surviving a war that left his friends and comrades dead.

Chasey is the victim of an assault that makes her hide away in the comfort of her apartment, living in her own little fantasy book world.

Scorch works for the Vice Agency, a company that offers the opportunity to play out real life fantasies, known as simulations. Unknown to her, Chasey's friends gift her a sim as a birthday present and this is where Scorch and Chasey's worlds collide.

Told from dual POV, this book is fast paced and action-packed. Full of suspense and twists and turns galore, there's a final twist you may not see coming. It reminded me of the movie The Game.

Can a game become a reality? We all want it to sometimes but sometimes it better left a fantasy... Chasey is a beautiful college student who can not seem to leave the fantasy world of her romance books. She doesn't like a lot of contact with the outside world. She does live with a friend named Molly who really wants to do something wild and fun for chasey birthday. So she setup a fantasy lifelike game with an Vice Agency who does this. She is to get kidnapped and rescued by a hot hero. But what happens when fantasy comes true? When your life is really in danger..
Scorch is a hot ex marine who is struggling with issues is PTSD due a tragedy that hit his team... Now out he works with a Vice Agency that produces fantasy game to people who want to experience what they could not otherwise. While providing services he runs into someone who is actually in real life danger. He sets out to save her the way he couldn't do with his team. Passion ignites within them and Scorch knows he needs to come clean..see he was the hero in her fantasy but how will a person so excluded from the outside world take the news that he knows her personal secret?.. Read this amazing story to enjoy in the fantasy...I was given this book in exchange for an honest review...

More than your typical romance

Wow! Just Wow! I sat down with a cup of tea, a bar of chocolate and a spare hour before bed thinking that this would be a lovely romance to fill a lonely evening. Was I only half right!

Every character in this book is flawed in his or her own way. Chasey is a quiet, introverted person who prefers her romance between the pages of books. Safe and non-confrontational. Scorch is an ex-marine, a play-actor who runs simulations of kidnappings, rescues and other scenarios. His body is paid for, his heart protected.

So when their lives collide, and the lines between fantasy and reality blur and sputter, they are both forced to confront their pasts in order to survive their realities.

Unexpected plot twists and compelling characters meant that I read this book through the night in a single sitting. When I read it again, with the foreknowledge of what would happen, I got so much more out of the book.

I would recommend this to anyone who loves a Romance, a Mystery, or just a thrilling read that will keep you turning the pages til the end.

Whooo Weeee what a wild ride this book turned out to be thank you MISTI MURPHY for the gifting of this exceptional book I LOVED IT. Definitely worth every star plus.
The story was great because of its different story line. The character development of our leading lady Chasey Fittswilliam and our Hero Scortch Reed was interesting the instant attraction the way they fought it, the lust and sexiness of both of them was wonderful.
I loved the swearing, the gun fights, the car chases, the hunky hero that protects guides and then fights for the girl even though he does not have to.
I would highly recommend this book but if you don't like swearing, if you don't like lust and sex and bad boys with loads of muscles, then this is not the book for you. For all the rest of us yes it's a hot hot book that makes you fear, makes you want, makes you sit up and cheer. You feel the sadness, the anguish, the joy the love the friendship.
This is an honest review that I've found very hard to express how much I enjoyed this book, how hard it was to put down. How good the ending was and that it would make a great series.
This is the first book I've read of Misti's but not the last...

As usual, I loved this Misty Murphy book. It was full of action and suspense and will have you on your toes questioning what the hell is going on. The chemistry between Scorch and Chasey is off the charts making you realize that Scorch lives up to his name fully.

Chasey's best friends set her up for a fantasy but never realized what the ramifications would be. She was assaulted previously and it may be more than she can bear even if she really does need to break out of her funk. She eventually recognizes Scorch as the man that her brother Johnathan asked her to save. He wanted her to make him see that he really is a hero only Scorch is so wrapped up in his head to let her talk. He believes its all in her hero fantasy.

Things take a turn for the worst after he reveals to her what kind of game her friends set her up in. Suddenly he has to save her for real if he wants to live with himself.

You will find yourself on the edge of your seat trying to figure out where the story is headed. I definitely wasn't expecting any of the plot twists and I absolutely loves that fact. I gladly give this book 5 well deserved stars.

Omg!!! This book had everything I could want.
Chasey is a lover of romance novels and their hot alpha men. She's had some rough times between losing her brother in Afghanistan, to being assaulted ( not detailed in this book just the results way after the fact).
Her friends Molly and Harry are trying to get her out of her apartment for her birthday and reluctantly she goes.
Then all hell breaks lose.
Her fantasy hero comes to her rescue and it just gets crazy from there. The danger, the mystery and the secrets .
When one gets hurt they both do and are both betrayed by those they trust.
When the adrenaline dies down and the hurts start to heal will they still feel the same or will Scorch disappear like he said?

This was one hot read and I can't say more for fear of spoiling a big part in this book.
Wonderful story and I can't wait to read more from this author.

" Thrilling and Hot!"
The storyline is so intense!. The characters are amazing!.
Its Chasey' s Birthday she has had a rough year. Her past has caused her to close herself off to others except a very few. Molly

When a book comes along and makes you fall in love with reading all over again, it is a rare gem! Well, Kiss Chasey is that book for me. I've read all of Ms. murphy's books and I've loved everyone single one of them, but when I started reading, Kiss Chasey it was like a receiving bucket of gold!

The writing was top notch, smooth and dreamy as I like to say! The ploy was a thrilling thing to read. The characters are interactive and fun and sooo hot!

You have this great story, of a girl who has been living like a hermit and reading her hero romance novels. That's when her best friend takes action and finds and this agency called The Vise Agency that makes dreams come true. But when things take a turn and everything becomes real. How will Chasey and her knight and shining armor, Scorch handle it all? Will they become who they are meant to be or will it crumble to ashes around their feet? Please pick this book up and read it! You will not be disappointed.

Wow! Kiss Chasey is definitely different from other books I've read. The originality of the plot is a welcome change of pace. As always, Misti Murphy has produced a well-written book with interesting characters. The first few pages are a little slow but then it picks up speed and doesn't let go. There are twists and turns throughout the story to keep you guessing. While I knew something wasn't right, I never figured out exactly what was going on. The reality behind events in the book makes perfect sense but I didn't see it coming.

I would love to see Chasey's friends Molly and Harry get their own stories. As well as Scorch's friend Kaiser. I think I would kill anybody who did to me what they did to Chasey and Scorch. However, they did it out of love and concern. It is nice to have friends who care that much.

I highly recommend reading Kiss Chasey and other books written by Misti Murphy. I've read several of her books and loved all of them. Read her books, you'll be glad you did.

This book was not anything I expected and I am happy I read it! On her birthday Chasey is drugged and kidnapped. She is saved by Scorch, a very hot guy. She does not know it is all part of a fantasy simulation game, paid for by her friends. Scorch suspects Chasey is not informed about the game and decides to debrief her and bring her home. But they are being followed by some very persistant thugs and soon they are on the run.

There were some issues I had with the story, like the fact Scorch slept with women as part of the game if they paid for it. That would normally put me off a story, but I could accept it here. I liked both the H/h and enjoyed the ride. This is not a very long story, but complete and with a lovely HEA.

I wish there was some sort of sequel, I intend to find out. This is my first book from this author and I was pleasantly surprised. Nothing over the top violent and some steamy scenes completed the package.
