You can do it! In this practical book, Betty Hollas shows how you can ease your way into differentiation without giving up the setting in which you are most comfortable: the whole group.
Taking one easy step at a time, Betty focuses on simple, engaging activities to help you: teach your students' diverse range of intelligences, learning styles, and interests; allow everyone to participate in the same activities, but at different levels of complexity or mastery; invite a broad range of responses, encouraging everyone to become involved; offer students choices regarding how they show what they have learned; raise thinking to a higher level; assess all your students quickly and effectively, so you can adapt your instruction; help all your students succeed.
With nearly fifty reproducibles, loads of illustrations, and all kinds of practical suggestions, this is book is the perfect resource for starting to bring differentiation into your whole-group classroom.
This book will change the way I teach. I always thought that differentiating instruction was not really the way to go. However, I've recently been bored in the classroom from teaching the same content and curriculum. I decided to read this book for a change and integrate its strategies. The strategies are basic and easy to implement. After making an attempt, I'll edit this review.
Fantastic ideas for teachers--good synthesis of Kagen's Cooperative Learning models. Hollas has solid, tested methods that can be easily adapted for different ages. The format was simple and easy-to-read. I plan on reading more of her stuff!
