The Family Creative Workshop: Volume 1, Acrylics to Batik

Rate this book
Published during the mid-70s, this 24 volume set is a comprehensive guide to a mind-boggling array of crafts. As one might expect, the crafts of those times are macrame, string art, mosaics, sand painting, tie dye and terrariums all make an appearance. However, there's also a noteworthy collection of current mainstream crafts, such as knitting, crocheting and beading, as well as impressive coverage of more obscure topics.

My mom had this set of books when I was a kid. They were lost after she died, but I managed to find the complete set at the Brandeis Used Book Sale (which I truly wish was not defunct, but I digress). They are amazing! This particular set covers Acrylics to Batik. The acrylics one looks like a lot of fun - you know those paperweights that have stuff in the bottom, like shells or coins? This shows you how to make them!

Here are the subjects covered:
Acrylics
Aeroplanes of Paper (British spelling)
Afghan Stitch (what we now call Tunisian crochet)
American Indian Crafts
Animal Dolls
Ant Farms
Antiquing Furniture
Applique
Astronomy
Baby Foods
Basketry
Batik
