Synopsis: This story retells the fight that Jews went through for religious freedom. An army sent out by Antiochus, destroyed the temple in Jerusalem, causing the lamp to be set out. This lamp had been burning in the temple for hundreds of years. A Jewish army gathered, lead by Judah the Maccabee, and fought against Antiochus' army. When Judah and his army arrived in Jerusalem and saw the temple destroyed, they set out to rebuild it. They made a new lamp and with the little amount of oil they found, they lit it. They did not think the oil would last long, but it ended up lasting eight days and eight nights. Therefore, every year, Jewish people celebrate and remember the eight days of the rededication of the temple. This book has really good illustrations!
