These are some very pretty pictures but these are very difficult to color as well. So, if you are new to adult coloring, don't start with this one.

Otherwise, a very nice book for Christmas especially! We even get a card in the end!!

The Night Voyage is an evocatively illustrated story of a little girl who is swept away on the eve of her birthday by her toy train conductor on a magical journey to distribute gifts around the globe. Taking devotees of The Time Garden and The Time Chamber on an imaginative new adventure, The Night Voyage continues Daria Song's wildly successful series with the beautifully intricate art that her fans have come to love, featuring a world of paper cranes, penny-farthing bicycles, trolleys, cityscapes, and hot air balloon-filled skies
what did I just got it to day, and I'm so glade that I did, love how it has an actually book cover on it, and how its like both a story book as well as a coloring book. the drawings are such gorgeous artwork, and unique and fun to color,
What did I think of it:
4.5 stars ( but only because of the double sided pages)
Just got it today ,and I'm so glad that I did, love how the drawings are gorgeous artwork and but at the same time but unique and fun to color, the paper feels like its high quality and can withstand most coloring pen paper is high quality which is great because I love to color using markers, coloring pencils and Crayola Crayons , also love how its like it both an actually story book and a coloring book together, the only downside to it is that the pages are double sided ( so I'm going to have to do a test to see how well it does with markers ) but that's the only down side, this would be a great gift for anyone, who loves to color, and a great way to spend time with your kids , love also how in the back there's a cut-out card that you can color and cut out and send it to someone, plus I love the visual index , a really great idea , because then you can use those as your test subject if you wanted to before actually coloring in it. With that said I would love to also say that I received this book from the Blogging for Books program in exchange for my honest opinion and review and that these are 100 % my own thoughts to what is truly a great book , so if you love to color then you need to check this one out.

Quite possibly one of the most gorgeous coloring books I will ever own. The pages are magnificent and there is a story at the very beginning to coincide with the gorgeous illustrations. Beautiful!

RELEASE DATE: September 30, 2016

PUBLISHER: Ten Speed Press/Random House

RATING: 5-stars

GENRE: adult coloring book, children's magical/fantasy

AUDIENCE/COMP TITLES: Those who love adventure stories featuring children, like THE NEVERENDING STORY, ALICE IN WONDERLAND, MARY POPPINS, NARNIA.

THE NIGHT VOYAGE is highly evocative of PETER PAN meets ALICE IN WONDERLAND meets THE NUTCRACKER (VELVETEEN RABBIT, MARY POPPINS, really I could go on) propelling readers far from the floor of their walk-in closet and into a sort of Narnia...it's at once delightful, whimsical, and highly detailed.

Daria Song is the author-illustrator and creative mind behind The Time Garden and The Time Chamber comes the third in the series. Technically, THE NIGHT VOYAGE is an adult-style coloring book, but this lovely colorable story is relevant for all, children included. In fact, my artistic 11-year old daughter is in awe and cannot wait to get her hands on this book.

THE NIGHT VOYAGE (Random House, August 2016) is an evocatively illustrated story of a little girl who is swept away on the eve of her birthday by her toy train conductor on a magical journey to distribute gifts around the globe, from London to Paris to Granada. Following the trend of the previous books, Daria Song enchants readers with beautifully intricate art that her fans have come to love, featuring a world of paper cranes, penny-farthing bicycles, trolleys, cityscapes, and hot air balloon-filled skies.

But you don't necessarily have to read (or color!) the books in order, I fell right into the magic of this story. Devotees of Daria Song will say this is a continuation of other adventures in the serious, but if you're just into unique art, magical stories of adventure and whimsy, you won't need anymore too get launch your mind.

Keep in mind that there are very few words to this story. The first few pages have some text, but then it's up to you, dear reader, to pull from the depths of your imagination to fill in the blanks. It's a dream, almost like falling down Alice's rabbit's hole.

Here are some discussion points to keep in mind if you read/color THE NIGHT VOYAGE:

Why wordless books have meaning.
How one person can interpret a series of events differently that someone else.
How one's story vision might be different than someone else's.
Make up your own continuation to THE NIGHT VOYAGE.
Draw your own companion art and share with others.
Compose a song (or look for one in your collection) that connects to the art within the book. What kind of song did you select?
Is the book evocative of a dream? Can you share a dream you had recently that relates?
Makes a darling gift for a young/middle grade girl

Oh my goodness. Daria Song has done it again. She has brought us yet another gorgeous adult coloring book to fill up our evenings with fun and relaxation.

And she really brought her game with this one.

Like her other coloring books, The Night Voyage also tells a story. The story is about a little girl. It is the night before her birthday and the thing she wants the most is for her parents to be home on their birthday, as they are gone on a business trip. She is surrounded by gifts, but they are not what she wants.

The story then unfolds across the pages as she is off in the night delivering presents to people all around. The question is, is it a dream or is it real?

Oh my goodness. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous! Breathtaking really! Most of of the illustrations are actually two page spreads, so you will have a lot of work cut out to get just one image of the story done, but the illustrations allow you to be free with your coloring style.

The paper quality in The Night Voyage is what you have come to expect from a Daria Song coloring book. The pages are nice and thick. However, they are two sided! So use coloring tools that can bleed through at your own risk. Unless you don't care about the image on the opposing side of the page I would definitely recommend against using alcohol based inks!

Also, since they are double sided, you cannot remove a page to frame that you really love without disrupting the flow of the story. Also, the since they are mostly two paged spreads, framing might be kind of tricky anyways.

And then, at the end of the book we get a little treat! There is a card back there that you can color and cut out and mail off to a friend! I love it! Thought I would love it more if they would come out with Daria Song illustrated postcards or cards in general. I will probably color the card that is in this book at some point in time, but I don't know if I will be able to bring myself to cut it out.

Gorgeous book for sure. If you love her other coloring books, you are going to absolutely adore The Night Voyage!

Beautiful. Whimsical. Detailed. Magic.

This are all the words that came to mind as I was flipping thourgh the pages of this book. Now that I say pages: I can attest for the quality of the pages as I reviewed a digital copy. But the illustrations.... there are some of them that are truly magical. I loved the expressions on the girls face and the cat's, and the level of detail and how the atory gets told between the drawings and some pages with typed story.

The book (or the coloring) follows Daria as she is left alone by her parents when her birthday is coming, and seeing all the presents she has she decides to pull a Santa Claus and give them around the world. And her cat and her toys help her do it.

Expect very intrincate coloring on some of the pages, so if you like it simpler, please try to see some of the pages first before getting it.

My first impression of this book is that it's absolutely stunning. The spine is embossed in gold and the cover is one of the most beautiful covers that I have ever seen for adult coloring books. My experience with this adult coloring book was stressful because I'm such a perfectionist that I was obsessing over everything being perfect. So while I wasn't relaxed I definitely feel more creative. There are so many beautiful pages to be colored and they are all very intricate that I haven't finish a full page yet, I've sort have been skipping around. I would highly recommend this coloring book to everyone, especially to those who love art.

Not only is this a great story about a girl and her dreams of being with her family on her special day, it is also a great coloring book! Adult coloring books are all the craze right now! I was happy to color this with my niece as we read the story together! I loved the images and how they seemed to fly right off the page, Phoebe was my favorite side kick! What a great cat. The author also did a great job making the story heartwarming! I loved the ending and hope that this author comes out with a lot more books! I am giving this book a 5/5. I was given a copy, all opinions are my own.

The Night Voyage is a unique concept - an intricate coloring book with an accompanying story. The Night Voyage follows a young girl who is lonely and decides to go across the world share all her birthday presents. The surreal imagery of the pages is beautiful and, at times, humorous (keep an eye out for where the kitten is throughout the story). The Night Voyage contains a great lesson about friendship and sharing, but most importantly it teaches that material possessions don't give you happiness.

A Whimsical & Kindhearted Premise, Coupled With Intricate & Stunning Artwork

(Full disclosure: I received a free book for review through Blogging for Books.)

This is only the second adult coloring book I've owned, and I had no idea what to expect from a book billed as an "adventure and coloring book." As it turns out, The Night Voyage is primarily a coloring book, but with several pages of introductory text to provide some background to the story and fuel your imagination.

It's the eve of the little girl's birthday, but sadly she will spend it alone (save for her cat, Phoebe): mom and dad will be away on a business trip. But they left her a huge stack of presents to unwrap, almost by way of apology. Feeling understandably lonely, she fantasizes about sharing her gifts with other kids her age, meeting new people and maybe even making a few friends in the process. Before she knows it, she's drifted off. That night, with the help of her toy train set (now life-sized), a flock of paper cranes, and her trusty friend Phoebe, the little girl goes on a night voyage, making her daydreams a reality. (Spoiler alert: she wakes up to a giant stack of pancakes. Mom and dad either never left, or just completed the 'verse's shortest business trip ever.)

Daria Song's artwork is sumptuous: whimsical and imaginative, and packed with lots of surreal and fun scenes. The drawings are intricate and highly detailed; most likely you'd categorize this as an intermediate to advanced coloring book. There are quite a few tiny little lines and shapes, and a steady hand is a must for some of the scenes.

2016-10-06 - The Night Voyage - 0007 [flickr]

The book is a near-perfect 10"x10" square, and many of the drawings stretch across two pages, lending them an even grander air.

2016-10-06 - The Night Voyage - 0013 [flickr]

There's even a Visual Index at the end - each layout has a name - as well as a cut-out greeting card that you can decorate yourself. I also love the few blank frames scattered throughout the book; you can either sketch in your own favorite people, or cut a photo to fit and paste it in there.

2016-10-06 - The Night Voyage - 0003 [flickr]

The pages are thick and sturdy; you'd really have to use some elbow grease to press through to the other side. The paperback book comes with a dust jacket (look underneath! there's printing on both sides!), and the naked cover is quite lovely on its own.

The Night Voyage would make a wonderful Secret Santa gift or stocking stuffer, especially for book lovers: You've got to love a coloring book that features drawings of book piles inside!

Left to celebrate her upcoming birthday alone, an unnamed child imagines sharing her mountain of gifts with other children around the world. She falls asleep pondering how such a journey might take place. And thus she dreams of her nocturnal adventure, led by her toy train conductor and accompanied by her cat Phoebe.

As with Daria Song’s other works (The Time Garden and The Time Chamber), The Night Voyage differs from conventional “coloring books.” The illustrated pages serve a purpose beyond simply pleasing the eye—they contribute to a story. Here, Song taps into the imagination of a young girl desiring companionship to show us a world that is colorful (figuratively speaking), captivating, and deliciously surreal.

Carted off into the sky by way of carriage, our young protagonist sets off on her journey. How will she deposit all of the gifts in one evening? She straps boxes to hot-air balloons and to the backs of paper birds; with the help of her cat, she drops presents down chimneys. And speaking of cats, an unexpected dose of humor jumps off the page thanks to Phoebe. We see the curious feline pawing at bows, half-dangling from a rope ladder, sliding down a chute, and playing peek-a-boo among cakes and flowers.

Song’s latest effort strikes me as a magical mash-up of The Polar Express, The Night Circus, and The Paper Magician. The result is an endearing and exhilarating adventure propped up by a feel-good ending. It seems a shame to spoil Song’s beautiful illustrations with ink or pencil. However, I would highly recommend The Night Voyage as a picture book for adults.

A little girl is lonely on her birthday when her parents go on a business trip leaving her behind with a huge pile of colorfully wrapped presents. Thinking to give away her presents to other lonely people around the world might make her some new friends the little girl falls asleep trying to figure out how to get the gifts to everyone. Suddenly she awakens to twinkling lights and the sound of a bell coming ever closer. Thus begins her wondrous journey around the world. The best part is that you get to ad the color to the story.

This is a coloring book for young and old alike. Clear defines drawings, some intricate and some deceptively simple await your artistic flair. Enjoy yourself for many hours of artistry and imagination. My rating is 4 1/2 out of 5.

Daria Song is an internationally known artist and author. She has had art exhibited at numerous galleries and museums in Korea, Singapore, Turkey, and Hong Kong. She grew up in both San Fransisco and Korea. Her art style shows a blending of both Western and Eastern culture and style.

The Night Voyage is the third adult coloring book in Daria Song's series "The Time Coloring Books" The other coloring books in the series are The Time Garden and The Time Chamber.

Each of Song's coloring books has a short set up story. The story of The Night Voyage is that tomorrow is the young girl's birthday. She woke up to find mountains of presents from her parents along with a note saying they would miss her birthday because of a business trip. The girl is lonely and wants to give her presents to other children and hopefully make some new friends. After the set up story the pictures take the thread of the story and lead the reader along through magical worlds.

Every page in The Night Voyage is simply gorgeous. Every picture is beautiful. Even the repeating pattern pages are gorgeous and somehow fit into the story. This particular book has a motif of stars, paper cranes and hot air balloons that appear on each page.

I really enjoyed this coloring book. Both the story it tells and the beauty of the art. I am sure it will provide me with many hours of pleasant coloring! I highly recommend it. Now if you will excuse me, I need to go start sharpening my colored pencils!

The Night Voyage is the third book in the coloring book series by best-selling Korean pen and ink artist, Daria Song. With each book, I find a new favorite.

The pages display a make-believe world with lovely drawings of paper cranes, hot air balloons, lanterns, trains, etc. Intricate designs for young and old alike—for most creative people are children at heart.

The book also has a fun storyline, of a little girl and her cat going on a magical voyage.

This magical adventure coloring book is fun, creative, and has a sweet storyline. A nice addition to my growing coloring bookshelf!

Storyline: A young girl and her cat take a magical journey, on a train through the night.

Craftsmanship: The softbound book has a beautiful, colorable slipcover. The pages are made from thick cardstock, which assures colors will not bleed or show through to the backside of the page.

Suggestions: Using crayons might be a little taxing, since it might be difficult to color within some of the tinier lines, so I suggest using coloring pencils or gel pens.

A fun keepsake, or thoughtful gift. Perfect for any creative soul.

Opening THE NIGHT VOYAGE takes you on a magical journey whether you’re 10, 35, 50, 70 or older.
Author and artist Daria Song creates a grand adventure where a young girl shares her birthday presents. The story is light-hearted and inspiring.
Through her amazing sketches, Song brings a fantasy world to life. To add extra enjoyment, the illustrations are left for the reader to color as they wish. This adult coloring book will bring out the inner child in you as paper cranes carry presents, hot air balloons fill the sky and a young girl opens her heart to others.
The black and white illustrations are rich in detail. Each page is printed on a matte-like paper made of a good thickness for coloring. An added bonus is a note card in the back of the book that has cutting lines making it easy to cut out, color and use. There are also thumbnail prints of each design page.
This adult coloring book will bring a smile to your face as you view the breath-taking illustrations and lose yourself in the enjoyment of adding color to the pages. Song has created a beautiful fantasy world for all ages.
FTC Full Disclosure – A copy of this book was sent to me by the publisher. However, receiving the complimentary copy did not influence my review. The thoughts are completely my own and given honestly and freely.

As my readers know, I love coloring books. When they are by Daria Song it is a double winner.

Like her other books, each page is filled with the intricate designs with a multitude of choices on how to color them. Each page is magical on their own whether they are filled with mystical mechanics, paper birds and flowers, teatime or more, they will keep the coloring going for hours.

In the back of the book are thumbnail copies of each of the pictures, an additional picture and a card to color (mine will go to my grandchildren.

Each page is printed on both sides on a heavyweight, non-perforated paper. The binding is sewn and glued, so they are not easily removed. Many designs cover both pages, so removing some of them would spoil some of the beauty anyways.

Many of the designs carry into the bound margins, which is not superb. The dust cover also can be colored on the inside and the out.

It will withstand most coloring materials except alcohol-based markers.

The beauty of the work and the fun in coloring make up for any shortcomings this book my have. Overall, I love it and recommend it to all.

Daria Song's books just keep getting better. Her detail work in this newest adventure is absolutely amazing and makes the book worth buying. Whilst I can't attest to paper quality or the intricacies of the cover as I viewed this copy digitally, I can say that even seeing it that way, the book is definitely impressive enough to add to my color book collection.

As before, with "Time Garden," and "Time Chamber," there is a story that goes along with this book. Although a little sad, it ends up being a happy one and makes you feel as if you have more than one reason to add colour to these pages. It is almost as if coloring in a Daria Song book transports you away to your own magical world, where you can be who you want, and choose to decorate it as you see fit.

I am impressed with her growth as an artist and the careful way she presents her art to the world. If you are a color book collector, you would be remiss not to add this to your collection.

Pure brilliancy. Really.

Overall: 5/5
Cover: 4.8/5
Illustrations: 5/5 (Gorgeous!)
Story settings: 5/5 (Love it.)

This book is amazing. The story setting is cool, and the illustrations are just pure brilliancy! Simply looking at the pdf makes me want to grab my box of color pencils and start drawing. Personally I love the magical and dreamy themes --- stars, flowers, clocks, cities, dreams, skies........oh it's endless. I thought the cover could be slightly better though, a deeper blue and maybe put a little glitter on the physical books, paperbacks? The colors of the paper birds and stars could be better too, but aside from these small details, the rest is perfect. PERFECT! Can't help it. I love it.
I'm so gonna buy a copy for myself when Christmas arrives. Or I really hope that I can get one as my birthday present, which is around the corner too. Can't wait for more future works!

I could not wait to get this fun coloring book, the paper is a very high quality paper, and it did not disappoint. Daria is so talented, and her other coloring books are now on my wish list lol. This coloring book has 64 double sided pages full of art work that is just amazing. Hot air balloons , origami cranes, cats, stars, old fashioned carriages, bikes, and so much more. Some of the pages are connected like for example the art takes up both the right and left side and I will be the first to tell you , there is art work to color from the jacket on the book, to the cover and back of the book, and to top it off thumbnails you can color in the back, and a beautiful card. What is so cool about this book is just that, it has a story to tell. “The Night Voyage” is the story of a young girl and her cat, Phoebe, who go on a night adventure giving away presents to others. Thing is, did they really deliver them? That is the question left hanging at the end of this story.

This book is absolutely beautiful, whimsical, creative and inventive.

This book is completely stunning. Her attention to details is amazing. I love how the artist utilizes every inch of these pages, and covers it in intricate designs. It is dreamlike with amazing dynamic compositions.

You can color in the dust jacket and the cover, if you wanted to make it even more unique and personalized. I wish this book had thicker pages; so I could use watercolors and makers. Making it even more vibrant.

This coloring book is so much more detailed and visually exciting than many other coloring books. You can see the amount of love and work she put into this book. It is so inspiring.

From the creative story to the detailed artwork, Daria Song has brought us another fantastic coloring book. Continuing with the dream style story and beautiful pages, this book is sure to keep me occupied for hours. Coloring has becoming a peaceful and quiet outlet for me over the past year or so. Expressing creativity on paper through color is one of my favorite things to do. If you have not experienced the joy of putting your pencil to page, Daria's series is an excellent place to start. I enjoy the intricate detail of her work. I have always had an obsession with stars and Daria's stars have a very unique personality which I love. This is an adult coloring book that is intended to tell a story. It is done incredibly well. Our little girl is having a birthday, but her parents can not be there. They left tons of presents, and the girl decides she has so many she wants to give them away. We join her on a bizarre ride through dreamland as she delivers presents. The story tells you it's her birthday, but it could also work for traditional gift giving holidays. Well illustrated, and I want to add this color book to my collection.

Yet another beautiful book by Daria Song. Unlike her previous books there's only so many words that tell the story and a lot more illustration.

There's only so much you really need to know about it before you just let yourself go in not only the world it creates but the world you'll be adding to.

With each turn of the page I found myself falling in love more and more with each picture. It's absolutely wonderful.

This is an illustrated story of a little girl who is swept away on the eve of her birthday and the pictures are just beautiful! There is a story to read at the front and then the pages take you through her adventure. This is a coloring book that is interesting, tells a story and is just fun to look through! Colored pencils and gel pens both worked well for me. "I requested this book from Blogging for Books and volunteered to review with my honest opinion."
