Why did the colonies break away from Great Britain, and how did they do it? This book charts the progress of the Revolutionary War from a few scattered protests to an armed conflict that led to the creation of the United States of America and changed the face of the globe.

"The Revolutionary War" is an informative nonfiction book about the Revolutionary War. This book provides lots of information about the Revolutionary War such as those who were involved in it, specific individuals, and many other things. There were multiple pictures on nearly every page in this book and each picture had to do with the content or the individuals that were being discussed on that specific page. There are no chapters or anything in this book, but the first two pages show who the war was against and it gives a brief introduction to the book and to the Revolutionary War. One very unique thing about this book was that it doesn't seem like your typical nonfiction book, there were pictures all over on every page and it had little informative information by every picture, it makes reading and learning more fun and entertaining for students. I would have to say that the genre for this nonfiction book is informational because it provides facts about a specific topic. I would say that the target audience for this book would be elementary school, fourth or fifth grade, because these students are starting to learn a little bit about the different wars and it would be good for them to be able to read and learn more hands on about this war.
While I was reading this book I couldn't help but think of the book " Revolutionary War on Wednesday". I loved the boxcar children books as a child and is why this book came to my head right away. This book is about two kids, Jack and Annie, who were flushed back in time to the colonial days and they have to help George Washington lead his army through some bad weather. It is up to Jack and Annie to keep history the way it is supposed to be, they must make sure that history stays the same! This goes with my nonfiction book because they are both over the Revolutionary War. In my fiction book they are working to make sure that the war stays the way it is supposed to in the past and my nonfiction book is describing how everything should be as long as they stay on track and they don't change history.
Great book for introducing kids to the Revolutionary War.
I loved the scrapbook style format. Lots of great photos and illustrations. Facts are told in paragraphs scattered among the pictures. As an adult, it's not my favorite way to read history, but I think it's great for my students.
It really is a beautiful book to look at. I love the color and organization. Perfect for teaching.
