Warning: Part 1 of 3. It should have clearly said that in the summary, grrrrtrr. Thought this was a stand alone. Should have known better. Hate it when i have to wait for a book to finish...
*received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review*
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS!!! I was worried that I wouldn't connect with this because of the last book I'd read of this author's, but boy did I sweat for nothing! When I Moan played on the taboo thought of falling for your stepbrother. It's not that weird because they aren't related, but they did know each other since they were toddlers, but they. Aren't. Related. It's my first time reading a stepbrother romance that wasn't sex first and story later, so this was really awesome for me. *cough*
The taboo didn't feel so forbidden for me, or at least not gross as a lot of people make it out to be. If anything, I loved the thrill this gave me, and I felt their struggles with choosing to act on instincts and thinking about their father and brothers, the people who'd be impacted by their attraction the most. I loved this so much, I was grinning hard within the first few pages and laughed out loud with Sergei and Misha's sister complexes. It reminded me of the anime I love and that may be why it was easy to get into. Some cheesy scenes, but I love that stuff. And the sexy scenes-! Whew! Thank God I was alone in the house...
They're just all so sexy, her stepbrothers, and yet so completely in love with her. There's some secret drama that goes down, but I loved that they all stuck it out without hesitation. I would like to know a little more about her mum and see more of the brothers when they're not doting on her, but I guess I'll have to wait for the second installment. *sighs*
I recommend this book because it was a fun story about a young girl struggling with her feelings of love for her stepbrother. The book took on a few chapters from the past before entering the present time, which was cool, and I totally forgot that this wasn't a stand-alone until the end. Ugh. And compared to the other books I've read of hers, I didn't cry as much- maybe a few tears -which makes me happy because I got to enjoy the good stuff, but also worried because if I haven't even felt Seri's pain yet.... I don't even want to imagine what it'd be like when it happens.
You'll love this if you also enjoy corny, ridiculously hot, sometimes heartbreaking moments with this Russian family. I know I did.
OKAY. This book really cracks me up. The whole 'sister complex' thing is really over-the-top. It might be cringy for some and I feel like this book may not work for everyone. But for some reasons I found it cute and funny. I will definitely pick up the next book!
So okay, I admit it was not bad, but it was not a great read either.
Two things really irked me: jumping through the moments in time (I've seen/read worse, but I did not find the extracts from the past that relevant or helpful in terms of how the story progressed) and the use of Russian. I admit Russian is my second foreign language, but the translations made my eyes bleed.
Also I thought I was familiar with manga, but to tell the truth I did not understand what it had to do with vocal training. Looked more like she was training to be a the phone sex operator.
The only thing that saved the whole thing and almost guaranteed I will read the next installment was that I found the brotherly overprotection endearing. probably because I always wanted to have three brothers (in a totally platonic way).
My favorite part of this book was how the h's brothers and father all adored her. They were so protective. Was not a fan of the h forcing the H into a relationship. I want the H to do all the chasing.
Unfortunately I'm not into all that Japanese manga stuff so I'm unfamiliar with all the voice coaching she was getting. I'm assuming this is like auditioning for Disney cartoons, but with sex. I like Marian Tee books, but when she goes on about stuff like J-Pop and manga stuff I get a little lost.
Unfortunately the other thing I hate is that this is a cliffhanger. Of course this first book was free, but I'm sure that the next books will need to be purchased when they come out. If they come out as Kindle Unlimited I'll be happy, but I won't be if I have to purchase them.
once u started there is no stopping. i love this series. marian tee has outdone herself again! this book is a cliffhanger so prepare urself to be reading book2 before making time to pee! and then there's book3. but im warning u, do not start reading book3 if ure having a date later or ull have to show up with swelling eyes from crying shamelessly. vassi and sari broke my heart too many times i may not be able to forgive them so im slapping 5 stars to their faces while i put some ice on my popping eyebags!
Ugh, I hate waiting. I can see seri getting her heart crushed already. Seri is so naive and infatuated with Vassi. Her fragile little heart is all in with him and he is a wolf. I know she is in for some real heartache before the storm is over and the rainbows come out.
This was really good. I was hooked and wanted to read more. I was a little upset by the points of view. I felt like it wasn't clear when they were switching view points. I also didn't like how young they were at the beginning (or even at the end) I felt like they should have been older, not just because of their interest in each other but the things they did. Vassi was a model or something and Seri was an actress. Maybe I am just too far from that world though. I was waiting the whole book for the shower scene that was in the prologue. I was disappointed that Vassi just pushed Seri further away after coming on the floor while she was showering.
I love the storyline and the characters. However, 90% of the book, the heroine is underage and that's not something I look for in a romance. The story could also use a run through by an editor. There aren't any major mistakes but enough to put the Grammar Police on alert. I am interested in the other stories but not sure about the price. I would love it if the three books were combined in one book for about $3.99 (for Kindle).
I struggled with how this story was written as it sometimes jumped from Seri to the step brothers even though the story was supposed to be from Seri's POV. I also found the step brothers, and their father, over bearing and controlling of Seri who seemed to accept the weird set up for their family. I wasn't aware this was part 1 of 3 until I got the end, and, unfortunately, I'm not sure if I'll read the next 2 parts. This is possibly a series I'll come back to at a later date
Let me just say how much I loved it. I would've given it a 5 star rating, but I've read her other books and I've seen the perfect writing style. This book is part one in a trilogy. Let me give you a small overview. This is a contemporary romance novel about a girl, her step dad and three step brothers. Seri's step-father married her mother when she was a young girl and her step-father and step-brothers all adored her, even after her mother died. All of them dote on her and spoil her pretty much all the time, although it came with a price. Her step-father's ex-wife hates her guts and makes problems for them. I would've liked for them to have dug deeper into the mommy issues. She was also bullied relentlessly by all the girls, and some of the boys, in her high school pick because of jealousy about her rich, famous, and sexy brothers. I honestly found it hard to believe that none of her brothers picked up on the bullying she went through, especially with how attached they are to her. Now, our hero/heartthrob is gorgeous but is untouchable in the emotional department excluding his immediate family. Later on in the story, you'll see why this occurs. My FAVORITE part of this story is how much Seri is adored by her step father and brothers. It melts my heart, honestly. They try to overcompensate since her mother died so young. Throughout the story you'll see how Seri's forbidden love for her stepbrother increases. I commend her for taking matters into her own hands. It's both amazing and not at the same time. No matter how much she wants to, she can never get over him. If I were in her case, I would've given up after the numerous rejections she faced. I kind of wished she was a little tougher in that area. Over all this was an awesome book and I enjoyed it!
When I Moan is book 1 in a three part trilogy. The Hero as always is a gorgeous heartthrob who seems to be untouchable in the emotional department for one so young except for his close family and there 'adopted' stepsister. The Heroine is the adored because she's everything they all imagined a little sister would be sweet, innocent, loving and caring to all of them and very appreciative of everything they try giving her as her mother is no longer there.
What's frustrating as that I loathe Marians cliffhangers because her books are so good you want to know what's next to occur.
The heroine goes from star struck to crush to borderline love obsession. This is the normal flow of things in most teen existence but she's not like any other teen in this case, she knows the hero and what makes him tick, and she eventually takes the bull by the horns to get him to SEE her and fall into her plans. whether its a good thing or bad remains to be seen.
All in all this was an awesome book and as usual I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Vassi is rich, sexy and devoted to his family. He loves Seri but as they get older, he realizes his feelings are not entirely brotherly.
Seri loves her stepfather and three stepbrothers more then anything. One day she realizes her feelings for Vassi are different. As Seri matures, she knows what the feelings are.......love and lust. She fights wanting Vassi, but upon learning she was never officially adopted, she decides she wants Vassi for real.....even if she has to blackmail him.
I love Marian Tee !!!! She never disappoints me. I almost thought, wow, a first for me.......not crying while reading one of her books. But noooooo, she saved it for the end. Thanks Marian........as I say with sarcasm, but much love ;) I can't wait for book two.
Seri And Vassi. you really feel for the characters especially with the history of their family and their situation of step siblings. its a bit like the comment made in twilight where you meet the Cullen kids for the first time and find out (if you haven't read the books) that their step siblings in love, only in this story and the history of the family and fierce loyalty of said family, you know it's not going to in end well in book one.
I didn't connect with the characters, and that's a personal thing, not baring any negative on the authors writing. Not easy to connect to step siblings falling in love in a moral sense but the authors has the ability to make you feel past that stigma it creates to get to the heart of the story which in all forms is love essentially.
I'll admit that I wasn't originally that excited about When I Moan. Frankly stepbrother romances are overdone for me. However, I really, really enjoyed When I Moan (which should have been expected...it's Marian Tee, after all). This is the start to Vassi and Seri's story, and what a beginning! Their story starts out as a roller-coaster and I can't wait to see where it goes. The only thing that put me off was the obsession of all the males in Seri's family with her. It was a little weird to me, but that was just me. I understand that everyone but Vassi has a platonic in her, but it still was weird for me.
I received a copy of When I Moan in exchange for an honest review.
I got this book in a bundle called "Step by Step" and let me tell you I had to go straight to Amazon to get part 2 and 3. This is one of the best written books that has me on the edge of my seat wanting to see what happens next. All I can say is Holy Cow !!! I want more !!!
Seri forces Vassi to be her boyfriend in secret even though Vassi had chosen family over his love of Seri. Will her blackmailing him push Vassi farther away from Seri or will it force him to admit his feelings for her? Edge of your seat drama unfolds testing the strength of love vs. the strength of family.
Noooooooo!!! It was just getting interesting when puff, it's over! I hate waiting, I'm no good a it! But looking forward and anxious for the next part of Vassi and Seri story!
