Louise, an adorable yet unbelievably fragrant stinkbug, must summon up all of her courage and self-confidence, with the help of her best friend Tara, when Kiki the cockroach threatens to squash her if she enters the skating contest.
Susan Middleton Elya is the author of many books that cleverly incorporate Spanish vocabulary into lively verse. She is originally from Iowa and now lives in Northern California.
Louise the Stinkbug is convinced by her only friend, a half-blind termite named Tara to enter an ice skating contest against kiki, the roach. Louise skates her best to defeat Kiki, and gain acceptance from the other bugs who have avoided her, but have also been the victims of Kiki's bullying.
This book was honestly not that intersting and dint have much substance to it. This would be a great fun read for students. It has plenty of rhyming words therefore allowing students reinforcement thorugh reading a fun book.
This book had a very good rhyme scheme. Teachers could use this book in a lesson on bullying, and teaching students it is not okay to pick on your peers. It also shows your students to always be yourself no matter what others may think of you.
At last, the age old question of "Can a stink bug ice skate?" is answered. A great story of friendship and overcoming difficulties. I really enjoyed the bug drawings too.
