Here We All Are

Telling his story in “three chapters,” Ram Dass explains how he moved from the structured academic world to wide-open experiences with psychedelics (and Timothy Leary). This thirst for knowledge led him to India, where he encountered a man who taught him to “just be here now.”     Ram Dass shares with us how we can all attain a state of well-being. The result is that we’ll become more centered, and we’ll learn to see the God in each other, which ultimately leads to an overwhelming sense of oneness with, and love for, our fellow humans.     As Ram Dass says, “We’re all the same . . . and here we all are.”Includes the bonus CD, Be Here Now, which features music from

This was a live recording and truly enjoyable to listen to. The book presented Ram Das, first as a successful PhD scientist with positions at Harvard as well as lectureships at other universities. But in that portion of his life, having attained 'stuff' and 'success', he felt somehow empty of the internal merit he felt should come with it. Part Two then discusses his journey, both through pharmaceuticals as well as travel, to find this thing called 'peace' and 'enlightenment'. And Part Three, is really a humorous discussion on the ease, and difficulty, with which it is all right here. Right now. And in that, I found the greatest insight of all. Here, we all are. Good book.

If you're going to listen to one set of Ram Dass' lectures, make it Spiritual Awakening, which covers a lot of the same material, plus much more, with the benefit of many more years of his learning, lecturing, and practice. The fourth disc in this set offers some beautiful mantra chanting and singing though.

So grateful for all of Ram Dass’ teachings. This is a short audiobook; it’s a live recording of one of his talks in front of a live audience. He shares about his experience at Harvard as a psychologist and how getting fired led him to India where he met his Guru and got on the spiritual path. He then shares some amazing lessons about spirituality. This is a great book for anyone new to Ram Dass.

A little more horny for god than my taste, and a little dated, but some groovy ideas.

Once a Harvard psychologist, his journey led him to India, where he studied with Neem Karoli Baba and embraced a life of service, love, and mindfulness.

In this live recording, Ram Dass talks about his journey from Harvard to India, and the experiences that led him to become an espiritual person.

I listened to an audio version read by the author. I like the "groovy" sixties-style presentation of Ram Dass. However, he relies heavily on a guru shtick where he says something really ambiguous and then implies that if you don't understand him then it must be because you are not enlightened. I was entertained.
