Take off on an exhilarating journey into the heart of contemporary romance in two glorious novels from New York Times bestselling author Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Honey Moon

She has a crazy name, a heart full of hope, and a passion for making dreams come true…Honey Jane Moon was a South Carolina orphan discovered by Hollywood and made a child star. Now she’s all grown up, but her life is still a dramatic and passionate roller coaster. Two men—Dash Coogan, a cowboy legend, and bad boy actor Eric Dillon—know how fiercely she lives and loves. But what Honey wants most of all is the family she never had. And when she falls in love, she’ll do it the only way she knows how…with all her heart.

Hot Shot

Susannah Faulconer flees her society wedding on the back of a bad boy’s Harley and enters a world for which no etiquette book could ever prepare her. A world with men such as Mitch Blaine, a corporate genius who has no time for a rich California socialite, and Sam Gamble, a charismatic visionary. Electronics genius Yank Yankowski harbours an invention that could change all their lives—if they can survive the cutthroat business world. Now, the unforgettable woman called Hot Shot must find the courage to see her dreams through, on her own terms.

This compilation of two novels is a study in contrasting settings: Poverty/Hollywood and San Francisco society/Silicon Valley entrepreneurs.

In Honey Moon, dirt poor Honey Jane Moon (responsible and resourceful) and cousin Chantal (beautiful but unambitious) win a beauty contest which includes an audition for a TV show. They travel from rural South Carolina to Hollywood. The wrong cousin is selected for the TV show, but fortune ensues. It could all have ended there, but the characters evolve and grow, meet a variety of life’s challenges, bottom out and try again.

In Hot Shot, abused child turned socialite Susannah Falconer is the perfect society hostess for her stepfather, but as her high society wedding to one of his associates approaches, she feels as though she is smothering. She met minicomputer entrepreneur and biker Sam Gamble running interference for her uncle. When Sam crashes her wedding, she cuts and runs off with him on his Harley.

In both novels, the female protagonists find themselves in situations they are totally unprepared for and mature into who they really want to be even though that person wasn’t on their horizon at the beginning of the story. Their personalities and confidence grow as they meet challenges, sometimes at great cost. There is romance and HEA at the end, but it is the growth of most of the characters and their relationships that make the stories. Recommended.

Honey Moon:
Rags-to-riches story of a child star who falls in love with both her co-stars.
The superior of the the two stories in this book, because the characters have more depth and SEP doesn't shy away from controversy here.

Hot Shot:
Rich socialite falls for young silver-tongued rebel with a vision that could change the whole computer industry.
The story was alright, but I didn't really like the characters (yes, even Susanna)... Sam in particular was someone I'd avoid in real life (even at the beginning when he was first introduced). The only people I found interesting were Sam's mother, Yank and Paige.

The two stories are rather different though following the classic principle of a novel: Woman finds good man, but there's trouble that she has to overcome before there is a happy end. To my mind, Honey Moon was a much better story than Hot Shot simply because it was more believable. If I could split the rating, I'd give Honey Moon 4 stars and Hot Shot 3.
