Roadmap to Your Heart #3

The Hardest Fall

Rate this book
Lee trades country ballads for show tunes in the next standalone book of her M/M series, Roadmap to Your Heart.

After licking his wounds from a painful relationship, Tate Sullivan is ready to move back home. He picks up where he left off as drag queen extraordinaire Frieda Love in a West Village bar in New York City. He doesn't expect to be drawn to the mysterious man with the dark eyes who shows up to every single performance--flirtatiously eyeing Tate one second and disappearing on him the next. Why mess around with a guy who is clearly giving him mixed signals?

Sebastian Clark is on a mission the first night he shows up at Ruby Redd's. He doesn't anticipate his plan being flipped on its head by the charismatic drag queen and even more so by the mesmerizing man beneath the makeup. But the more he learns about the vibrant and brash Tate Sullivan the more intrigued he becomes. So he pushes aside his guilt about why he sought out the bar in the first place in order to get to know the guy behind the stilettos.

They're opposites on many levels, but as Tate spends time volunteering with Sebastian at the shelter, he begins to feel good about himself in ways he hadn't before. For Sebastian, Tate represents a sense of fun and freedom that is completely fresh and invigorating. Before they know it, their easy companionship catches fire, and Sebastian is kissing a man for the first time, while Tate is opening his heart to new possibilities. But Sebastian is still keeping a secret, and Tate will have to decide if he can trust again, or if the betrayal he feels from Sebastian's confession is too much to overcome.

Here's the reading order of this series (five books):

THE DARKEST FLAME
THE FAINTEST SPARK
THE DEEPEST BLUE
THE HARDEST FALL
THE SWEETEST GOODBYE

So romantic and fulfilling ... I didn't even mind the looong slow burn.

I loved the MCs, especially Sebastian, and the supporting cast of characters.

Thumbs up for the cameo featuring Dean and Callum in the beginning; I just found it odd that they were never mentioned again, even though Tate considered Dean a good friend.

The Hardest Fall
This is book three in the The Roadmap to Your Heart series and Christina Less has outdone herself in this story. The MC in this book are Tate Sullivan and Sebastian Clark who meet by unique circumstance. Although a situation from the past brought them together it is Sebastian's attraction to Tate and queen Frieda Love that keep them running into each other at the little night club, Ruby Redd's, in the West Village. Sebastian has been asked to deliver something to Tate yet when he first gets a glimpse of Tate he simply cannot deliver the package and walk away - he is drawn to the man and the queen like a moth to flame. When Tate notices the good looking man dressed sharp in a suit who is a new frequent customer, a customer who tracks his performances and watches his interactions with customers, Frieda Love simply cannot let the man go with out razzing him a bit. What Frieda Love doesn't expect is for Sebastian to intrigue her and make her want to know more and what Tate comes to realize is that even when he isn't Frieda Love he still wants to know more about Sebastian. This bothers Tate because he refuses to let the past repeat itself - he will not let his heart get trampled again from a man who is not strong enough to accept him, ALL of him. Meanwhile Sebastian is having a crisis of identity has he suddenly realizes he is attracted to men and not only a man but a man who is also a drag queen. This is not what he expected when he went into Ruby Redd's, not at all and he is really unsure of how he feels about it. But he knows one thing he definately feels something because whenever he is near Tate or Frieda Love his heart speeds up and his cock gets hard - yes he is definitely attracted to men, well at least one man. siluetas-hombres-destacado-630x376

I loved the way Christina Lee set these characters up and how their differences only compliment each other and make their relationship hotter. The chemistry between these two burns hot right from the start although it does take a bit for them to make good on their attraction but I loved every minute of the angst and the build up - H.O.T. When Tate finally finds out exactly why Sebastian was in the bar to begin with my heart broke for both of them as they both hurt in their own ways - Tate felt betrayed and didn't want a repeat of the past and Sebastian well he only knew his heart was shredded all because he had to be a loyal friend. But never fear, we get our Happy ending and the author brings in a cameo of characters from previous books in the series - with a mention of one particular young man who is getting to be the right age for maybe his own book. I see the perfect set up for book four in the series, Callum's Younger Brother and a trip to New York City - ahh but I digress! All in all you will not be disappointed with the latest installment in the Roadmap to Your Heart Series and Tate and Sebastian will follow you around for days as you deal with a book hangover. I only wish the story was longer - but then I have been accused of being greedy before and wanting a never-ending story!

Uffff, 2.5

**** 4 Stars****

Tate Sullivan is a funny, sassy, talented and adorable guy comfortable in his own skin.

He works in a Bar a few nights a week as Frieda Love, his persona as a drag queen.

As a day job, he tries to survive as a graphic designer making quirky T shirts.

Sebastian Clark is a straight guy with a social work degree who loves to help the ones in need.
Sadly, his Dad passed away and Sebastian had to put his dreams on hold to run his father’s business.

How the MC’s get to know each other:

Sebastian went to visit his friend Alan on his deathbed. A friend * you will have to excuse my French*, that I must say was a motherfucking asshole. I’m 100% sure you’ll agree if you read the book. The motherfuking asshole asked Sebastian to retrieve a secret envelope to a guy called Tate. Sebastian opened the envelope and had the shock of his life: His best friend Alan, his married straight best friend Alan, had an affair with Tate.

Sebastian seeks Tate and ended up at Ruby Redd’s and surprise, surprise! He feels completely fascinated by Frieda Love.
Sebastian was drawn to Tate like a magnet and every time he went to watch Tate’s performance he wondered if it was because Tate was a beautiful woman in drag. However, a few weeks later Sebastian had the chance to see that he was extremely attracted to Tate for whatever he was. Tate, as Tate, clear of make-up made Sebastian pulse thump wildly in his veins!

Here is where all the drama happens, in a good way.
Tate was burned before by the cheating-Alan and wasn’t feeling like getting attached to any other person any time soon. He also could clearly see that Sebastian was straight and he had enough of “man in the closet”. He couldn’t resist Sebastian though.

Sebastian was a conflicted mess. He kept holding the fact that he knew Alan. He went to deliver the envelope to Tate, many times but Tate, also fascinated by this guy who was always sitting alone watching his show, took every opportunity to flirt shamelessly with Sebastian making Sebastian feel uncomfortable and awkward. Sebastian felt so nervous with Tate’s attention that he always ended up running away without giving the bloody envelope.

I sympathised so much with Sebastian feelings. I had this connection with him where I could feel his dilemma. Kudos to the author! He felt uncomfortable because he was being deceptive in regards to his friend and awkward and disturbed because he couldn’t understand his attraction to Tate as he was never into men before. Awww, bless him! I had so much fun reading shameless Tate hitting on Sebastian! I had also a blast with Sebastian first’s steps regarding male/male action.

Well, what to say??? Welcome to the Club, Sebastian!

I loved both MC’s. I found them well developed. The slow burn chemistry was hot!

I also want to mention how great Annie and Tory were as support characters. They played a great part in the plot. Tory’s idea of Tate’s videos tutorial was fabulous. Totally rocked! I loved reading that!

Sebastian was my favourite though; Compassionate, selfless, humanitarian, such a beautiful person with so many layers. Always surprising me.

Solid 4 Stars!

I wish I could say this book was hit for me but I can't. It was hard for me to connect with the story especially the first 20-25%. I struggled a bit and had to kind of push myself to continue. The story did get better but not enough for me to say "I loved this book."

Some things that I did like:

- The characters. I loved Sebastian and Tate. They were different but complemented each other well.
-Frieda Love- Tate's alter ego. She was fun and sassy. She was the best part of the story.
-I also enjoyed the supporting cast. Annie (Sebastian's employee) and Tori (Tate's roommate) were great.
-The story is narrated through a dual POV. Always a plus in my eyes.

What didn't work for me:

-The inner monologues. They were too much! It reached a point where I started skimming them.
-The OTT drama at the end. It didn't work for me and had the opposite effect that the author was going for.
-And the secret that dragged on for waaaaaay tooooo long. ***This goes back to my first point of inner monologues. I got tired of Sebastian- thinking about "the secret". It started sounding whiny to me. It was so repetitive.***

In the end, the story had some highs and lows. My final rating will be 3 Stars: liked didn't love. I think though if you're a fan of this series check it out.

Well... We finally have a winner here guys!
I admit, my feelings for the first two books were a tiny bit lackluster, but not because of the writing. For some unknown reason, I always felt a little disconnect with the characters, but I’m happy to say that that wasn't the case here!

Sebastian is trying to fulfill the dying wish of his childhood best friend. That action brings him to the door of the flamboyant, drag queen Frieda Love, aka Tate. Sebastian is instantly mesmerized and can’t not attend Tate’s twice weekly shows, thus setting in motion a slow evaluation of his own orientation and life choices. Sebastian’s consistent presence does not go unnoticed, and Tate strikes up a conversation that eventually leads to a tentative friendship between the two, making Sebastian’s chance to reveal his true motives that much harder to do so.

Tate has been burned bad by the relationship gods, and he’s determined to never hide any part of himself for anyone else ever. When curiosity (and attraction) prompts him to confront the handsome stranger, he finds himself pleasantly surprised over and over as he gets to know Sebastian, despite Sebastian’s obvious straight status. He definitely makes Tate consider breaking his own rules.

Sebastian’s secret comes out around 60%, and there is the inevitable fallout, but both these guys were already far gone for the other. So thankfully, their separation is not too drawn out, though a few more challenges come to the fore. What made this story were both Sebastian and Tate - each were equally and wholly likeable characters with good hearts, good intentions, and some real vulnerability that they healed for the other. I loved Tate. He was strong and fierce and never apologetic for who he was and how he chose to live his life. And I loved Sebastian who had his own sad story that made him such a wonderful, generous person inside and out. Though at times he was overwhelmed with his new feelings, he never once wanted to hide who Tate was, admiring and appreciating every facet that comprised who he was.

So overall, this was very sexy, very lovey dovey, with easily conquered angst and a great happy ending. Obviously for me, this was the best in the series! Enjoy!

I'm afraid I'm in the minority with this book. I really liked some parts, but others didn't quite work out for me.

What I liked:

~I love books with cross dressing, drag queens or gender bending in general, and this part is done really well here. Frieda Love, the alter ego of Tate is magnificent and her shows and personality won me over.

~I loved Sebastian. His character is very likeable and I really loved the way he handled his sexuality.

~The writing is pretty good and it flows really well.

What didn't work:

~That goddamn secret hanging over their heads like the sword of damocles for the most part of the story! Sebastian's initial reaction to not reveal it felt genuine, but it went way too far.

~There were parts that felt...not preachy per se, but definitely didactic, regarding drag queens and transsexuals. I like it when stories have messages to convey, but it didn't feel very smooth here.

~I felt that the dead guy was kind of disrespected. Yes, he was an asshole. Yes, he treated Tate like shit. But he's not here to defend himself and he expressed remorse on his deathbed. At first it was ok, but after a while I was done with the accusations and the name calling. Tate was to blame too.

~When important scenes (like the revelation of the big secret!) get interrupted by trivial things, like an arrival or a door opening it is contrived and frustrating.

~The internal monologues got too long and repetitive. Tate and Sebastian spent too much time in their heads!

The majority of reviewers loved this one, so it might be just me, not the book. But the above reasons took a lot of my enjoyment out. *2.75 stars rounded up.

This story is seriously AMAZING. It is all about the feels and they struck right at my heart. This book was a lesson in love: If you love someone, then you need to love each and every aspect of the person, not just the one single part that is convenient. This is my second book by Christina Lee and she has done an outstanding job in creating the characters of Tate and Sebastian. They were the most adorable and sweetest couple with boatloads of love for each other.

Tate Sullivan, stage name Frieda Love is the gorgeous and stunning drag queen who has everybody clamoring to get a taste of her in the gay club, Ruby Redd. On each and every day she performs, Frieda never fails to notice the tall, dark and handsome stranger sitting in the bar, following her every move. Tate/Frieda approaches the guy, but in spite of being immensely attracted to this brooding stranger, he is almost sure that he is straight and Tate is in no way ready to get tangled with another gut who is surely in the closet. Tate has been hurt pretty badly in the past and he wants someone to accept ALL of him and not just her drag queen persona, Frieda Love. But even when Tate’s brain tells him to steer clear of Sebastian, his heart cannot stop pounding when he is near the guy. Sebastian and Tate struck up an unusual friendship which quickly turns into something more.
Sebastian seeks out Tate as the result of a request from a dying friend. He never expects to be attracted to the stunning drag queen from the moment he sets eye on him. His secret behind meeting Tate is pretty huge and Sebastian is sure it will push Tate away if he comes to know, but Sebastian cannot stay away from the guy. Sebastian has always dated girls and these intense and raw feelings for Tate brings on a huge identity crisis for him. But one thing Sebastian is absolutely sure of : He wants Tate badly!!!

The build up of all the feelings between Tate and Sebastian was the best part of the book. They hook up quite late in the story but when they do come together, they scorched the pages. Tate and Sebastian had an intense attraction from the start but self-preservation in case of Tate and guilt in case of Sullivan prevents them from acting on it. I melted when they had their first kiss. It was so “in the moment” and pretty HOT!!!

Sebastian is weighed down by his guilt from keeping the truth from Tate. After spending time with Tate, Sebastian is sure that he was the victim in his past relationship which angers him and intensifies his feelings for Tate. Sebastian is not only attracted to Frieda Love but also to Tate Sullivan, the man beneath the costume, wig and makeup.

“If I’m going to kiss you, I want to taste you. Not your favorite shade of lipstick,” he said swiping at my mouth as the tissue turned a rosy shade of pink. “Because fuck, Tate. You’re beautiful with it on, but you’re stunning all on your own.”

Tate has been hurt bad in the past and he has sworn off relationships after that. But he could not stop himself from being drawn to the shy, compassionate and gorgeous Sebastian Clark.

Their connection was pretty obvious for anyone who saw them together. Both Sebastian and Tate’s friends were amazing in bringing the guys together. Generally, Coming out stories are very angsty with a lot of denial and drama but it was nothing like that in this read. Sebastian was confuse, YES but he was never in denial about his attraction towards Tate. He was more worried about Tate’s reaction to his connection to Tate’s past.

Bottom line, every romance lover needs to read this book. I strongly recommend this book to- anyone who wishes to read about a sweet and powerful romance between two of the sweetest m/m MCs ever. Tate and Sebastian will make you fall in love for sure!!!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

This installment follows Tate Sullivan (Dean’s bestie from The Deepest Blue) and Sebastian Clark as they are brought together through circumstances fueled by new secrets and past hurts.

Tate works at a drag queen bar called Ruby Redd’s, where he performs several times a week as the charismatic and alluring Frieda Love. For several weeks Tate has been drawn to the gorgeous and enigmatic man watching him perform from the back of the bar, until one night he finally gives in to curiosity and approaches the stranger he’s dubbed “dark eyes.”

Sebastian Clark (AKA “dark eyes”) isn’t at Ruby Redd’s by chance, but his reasons for being there get pushed aside the moment he lays eyes on Frieda Love and he finds himself struggling to look away. Living his life as a straight man up until this point, Sebastian is taken aback by his fierce attraction to Tate and Frieda alike. His newfound bi-curious urges are the least of his worries though, as he finds himself inexplicably drawn to a man he knows he can’t pursue without dealing with some hard truths first.

The slow burn from attraction to friendship, and eventually into love, almost feels inevitable between these two sweet, lonely men. The angst in this story was also inevitable. Sebastian’s reasons for seeking Tate out in the first place, and the fact that Tate is blind to the connection he and Sebastian share from the past, leads to a lot of unease and dreaded anticipation for the truth to be revealed. Luckily, there was so much solid character and relationship development early on in the story that when the big reveal finally happened it didn’t ruin my enjoyment of the story in the least. I was even impressed by the way the characters dealt with the fallout in a realistic fashion, limiting over-dramatic reactions and maintaining my high opinion of the characters themselves.

I’m quite surprised by the way this series has progressed, and I mean that in a positive way. The first story now feels quite disparate in comparison to the themes and the reactions garnered by the second two stories within this series. I feel like there may even be a few of my fellow GR friends who read the first book (The Darkest Flame) and were perhaps unimpressed by the experience? If this was the case for you, I say give the next two a shot because they are far more enjoyable reads on a whole and (in my opinion) are completely unrelated to the events and characters of the first story.

**** We have a topsy-turvy tale here, as Sebastian's friend Alan was dying and asked a favor. Handsome Sebastian
now works at his deceased Dad's shoe business, and volunteers at the Shelter.
Beautiful Tate/Frieda Love performs

as a drag queen and also has a t-shirt business.
Having been in foster care until adopted, Sebastian felt Alan's information should be handed over. So, he goes to the club where Frieda Love sings to bring him the info, but doesn't. Frieda on stage is captivating, but Tate beneath the make-up is even more intriguing. These are raw, new feelings for Sebastian and they become friends and work at the shelter together, too.

As Sebastian becomes more enamored of Tate, he is at war internally about the information he should give Tate.
Meanwhile, we learn about their pasts, their deepest emotions and the things that formed who they are. We meet the wonderful cast of characters in their lives. Christina Lee weaves an amazing tale of complicated issues that are slowly unraveled and redefined. She gives us main characters that we like, that we care about, and a story that grips us.

In addition we get the wild, uninhibited sex scenes, that are erotic, dirty, emotional; first time man on man sex for Sebastian. And it gets hotter and more exciting as they move along.

These two men are made for each other. We see it, we like it, and we see them cherish what they have. A fabulous tale of an introvert and a drag queen. I have read "Satin" by K.C. Wells, different but similar trope, but there it was a detective on a stake out; and I loved that book also.
Highly recommended. ENJOY !

I really loved this! Tate was amazing and I adored Sebastian. They were great together and I liked the slow burn, but when it got going, wowza, steam too. I liked Tori and Annie as well. There definitely could have been more angst with all that had happened, but I'm glad there wasn't. The reactions and personalities fit and made sense given the past and the events that had shaped the characters.

I don't want to read another story with one character keeping a secret that's gonna bite him on the ass. I don't like this plot device at all and just read a story like that two days ago. Also, disappointed with how everything about Frieda is generalities. Everyone praises her but what's really her selling point, what makes her awesome? A drag queen lip-sinking to Lady Gaga - that's, like, not even a cliche, it's beyond that.

4-4.25 stars!

"Whatever it was it made me want to grab Frieda, throw her over my shoulder, and take her home, like some big ape. I wanted to unwrap her like a present and claim my prize—Tate.”

This was a really cute story. My first by Christina Lee but definitely not my last. There were a few things that could have been different and were hard to overlook hence the rating.

The characters were amazing and their chemistry was HOT! I've never read a character who was a like Tate and I hope I never do. He was really one of a kind. I just wish that there was more of a development between them. I would have liked to see them grow more into a couple.

And I felt like if the drama was a little less, this would have been an easy 5 star read for me. I can't wait to read more stories by Christina!

4 stars – The third installment in Christina Lee’s Roadmap to Your Heart series, The Hardest Fall, is the fifth book of hers that I have read and another satisfying entry in her M/M repertoire.

Orphaned at a young age, Sebastian Clark has always struggled with being able to let people get close to him. Now as an adult, he has been tasked with the dying request of the one person he considered a friend growing up. The request leads him to a bar featuring a drag queen show in search of one queen in particular, Frieda Love. While he expected to be able to complete his task and get on with his life, he is immediately enthralled by her fabulous charisma. So instead of wiping his hands of the issue, he delays and returns several more times to watch in fascination. Tate Sullivan is the attitude behind the queen that is Frieda Love, a role he reincarnated upon his return to New York City after a hasty escape to deal with the aftermath of a terrible relationship gone sour. His opinion of relationships after that is entirely hands off, so he isn’t expecting to be drawn so strongly to the dark-eyed and enigmatic stranger who has become a regular to his drag show, even though he keeps his distance from the stage.

I love the fact that the three books in the series are all very different, and I had very different reasons for liking them. Smoke and Vaughn (in the first book, The Darkest Flame ) were the hottest pairing of the three, while Callum and Dean (in the second book, The Deepest Blue ) had the best story of the set. This one, hands down, is the best of the group for drawing you in to the characters.

Sebastian and Tate are opposites in so many ways. Well, that’s not entirely true: when Tate is Frieda, her flashy, brazen, and invincible attitude counters Sebastian’s reserved and serious demeanor. When the makeup and outfit are removed, Tate is still outgoing and vibrant, but he’s much more constrained and vulnerable. Over the course of his visits, Sebastian discovers that his fascination is actually attraction, something he isn’t sure how to handle since he has always identified as straight. So when Frieda approaches him the first time, it is electric. And when Tate approaches him, they develop a surprising friendship. It’s this friendship, though, that causes Sebastian to hesitate continuously about sharing with Tate the secret he knows for fear it would not only devastate him but also extinguish whatever it is between them.

I have to admit, I wasn’t really buying the motivation for Sebastian refraining from completing his task right off the bat. Right away, he is concerned about hurting Tate. But everyone knows that giving bad news to someone you’ve just met is better all around than waiting until you’ve become friends with the person first. In an otherwise solid plot, that was the one bit of weakness, and it lasted well beyond the halfway mark of the book. Fortunately, by the time we finally get to the point where he confesses what he knows to Tate, we have learned enough about his background to appreciate his early hesitance. It doesn’t really make it any more acceptable as a reader, but at least I understood, and ultimately, it turned out to be the same understanding that Tate had about it too.

Outside of this issue, the story itself is a wonderful, slow-building burn that had the extra bonus of Sebastian’s first-time attraction to a man making everything all new to him. A lot of times this fact doesn’t add much to a story, but the writing here really made me feel it, especially when combined with Sebastian’s issues that keep him from letting people into his life. Tate is also written well: not only does the story say his personality is magnetic, but I too was drawn in, fascinated by him as a reader. Because of this connection I felt to both characters, the feelings that develop between them were all the more palpable. And when the intensity boils over, I could feel it as if I were right there with them.

Overall, The Hardest Fall is a straightforward read with a good blend of levity and angst in an interesting story line. It is a formula I know I can expect whenever I pick up one of Christina Lee’s books, but rather than that making her books boring and predictable, the result is more like a comfortable blanket, the sort of thing you can’t wait to curl up with the next time the opportunity presents itself.

Tate Sullivan makes no apologies for who he is. He is out and proud as himself, and is also known as Drag Queen, Frieda Love. He is vibrant, brazen, and flashy. His armor is hair color, make up, and standing out. But underneath he has been scarred by his past and guards himself to avoid being hurt.

Sebastian Clark is a quiet, serious business man. Issues from his past have made him more of a loner and he keeps himself at a distance from people. He had no idea that doing a favor for a friend would lead him to Tate/Freida Love. He becomes intrigued and mesmerized by both Frieda and Tate. It is confusing and enlightening for him. He has lived a straight life, but never really connected on the same level he does with Tate. They begin a surprising friendship that leads to more attraction and exploration.

But Sebastian has a secret that could affect Tate and ruin it all. And Tate has already been seriously burned before, so he guards his heart. I loved how different Tate and Sebastian were, but how they could also appreciate and believe in similar things. They both really needed a connection and to be truly loved and accepted, but were reserved with their feelings. They had serious sexual tension and slow burning chemistry, but their relationship was not just based on sex.

The confusion, wonder, and push and pull added to the tension. Sebastian was open to figuring out his needs, but it was all new to him. They were both vulnerable and afraid of rejection or being hurt. Tate tended to sabotage any chance at real relationships due to fear and trust issues. And Sebastian was torn between guilt from his secret, insecurity, and being blown away by his new feelings. So they don't always know what they are doing, but find they enjoy doing it together. I did get a little frustrated with Sebastian for holding onto his secret for so long, but I could understand his reluctance a bit since he had very few people in his life stick around.

But secrets don't always stay hidden and the past has a way of rearing its ugly head and exposing fears and insecurities. Can these two men fight through them or is there too much to overcome?

I got totally sucked into Tate and Sebastian's story even though some of the elements were not typical ones I read. But the characters were complex, likable, and really drew me in. Tate was so magnetic, yet had enough vulnerability. Sebastian was the perfect serious balance for him, and he had such intense feelings and a big heart. I could feel their connection, need, and want in both of their points of view. I could understand their conflicts and struggles, but was rooting for them to overcome them.

The side characters added depth and support when needed. I enjoyed getting a little glimpse of another couple from this series, but this can be read as a complete stand alone.

I loved the small current trends like Tate's You Tube videos and humorous graphic tees in contrast to Sebastian's more timeless, old school profession. These two were so opposite, yet just fit and complemented each other. And they had strong physical chemistry and an emotional connection that you could feel through their interactions and intimate scenes. They were like the missing piece to each other's lives that they did not realize was missing. This was full of feels and tension. It was angsty, emotional, sexy, sweet, and romantic. Each installment in this series is unique and intriguing, and this was no exception.

Hmm...this one was more of a miss for me, unfortunately. I like drag queen MCs and I was not disappointed with Frieda Love, aka Tate in his day job, but the whole set-up with the big secret and the drama that came with it when it was revealed put me off.

However, there were good things about the book.

-Double POv is always a bonus. I think the characters were developed well and I felt like I knew what they were about pretty quickly.

-Side characters: Tate’s roommate, Tori, and Sebastian’s employee, Annie, don’t play a huge part in the story, but they’re there when it matters and help advance the plot. Plus, they were both very likeable to me.

-Tate’s femme side. They guy was full of sass and I was in twink heaven. His make-up tutorials/vlogs were funny and full of snark.

-Sebastian’s quiet nature. He was the type of character I am immediately drawn to. Reserved, not in your face, quite insecure, but owning up to his shit. There was no “I am hot for Tate/Frieda but I’m not gay” malarkey, thank goodness. Sebastian started questioning his sexuality pretty early on in his attraction to Tate/Frieda (as fast as it happened) and was pretty open to the idea that he was probably a late bisexual bloomer.

-The sex...? I’ll add it to the positives because it didn’t make me cringe or anything. There was steam and it was hot but nothing to write home about. It was there so I can’t complain that it wasn’t, if that makes sense...?

What made me star drop:

-The drama. Trust me, I love drama in books but with conditions. It has to be believable. The plot needs to sort of naturally develop with a dramatic twist. The characters need to grow as they go through it. And hopefully, it’ll be heart-breaking in some way for me to feel more for the characters. Not here. It was not handled well and the twists after the 80% mark were very OTT and unrealistic. Soap-opera-ish type of drama does not do it for me, sorry.

-I did not read the final copy of the book so maybe this next comment will be irrelevant (hopefully) by publication time. The writing did not agree with me. And I’m not talking typos that can be picked up with some light proofreading. I am talking bad grammar, fragments, and not for stylistic purposes either. Some of my favourite authors bend grammar rules all the time in emotional scenes for emphasis. I did not get the impression that this was happening here. It was just...wrong syntax all over.

-The ending was cheesy and although I can appreciate the grand gesture shtick with the best of them, it fell flat for me here.

So, overall, not a win for me. But I haven’t read the first 2 books in the series so if you are a fan of the author and the series, you might enjoy it more than I did.

Cover design: I love every single thing about this cover! The model's purple-tipped hair is a seriously cool tie-in to Tate's penchant for trying bold colors.

Lead Characters:
Tate Sullivan aka Frieda Love - drag queen extraordinaire and funny slogan T-shirt designer
Sebastian Clark - owner of Rosie's Repair Shop and a Safe Harbor advocate

This novel proved yet again why author Christina Lee is one of my go-to, top favorite authors to date. It goes without saying that Tate and Sebastian's love story had great character development, a lot of sexy build-up and steamy moments galore. Below are 5 great elements that also stood out to me:

5 Greats
1. Tate’s sense of ridiculousness
2. Baz’s introspective nature
3. Safe Harbor volunteering and donation ideas
4. Tate’s YouTube tutorials - that last one was so brave, bold, adorable and totally swoon worthy!
5. Tate and Baz working together but on separate things at Rosie’s Repair shop

A FEW FAVORITE QUOTES:
‘I have never been pulled so strongly into another human being’s orbit.
I’m not sorry I met you–because you opened up a part of me that had apparently been on lockdown. Thank you for that.’
~Sebastian

Tate's POV
“I guess you could say that I’m newly out. Bisexual. Used to exclusively date women.”

“Yeah?” I asked playing along. But hearing him own it did something funny to my chest. “Figured out that you like boys?”

“Something like that.” He glanced briefly at me. “I certainly like one boy. One gorgeous boy.”

‘As our lips fused and held, everything faded away. The phone, the room, and the sounds of the city outside our window.

Just a boy loving a boy and wanting everything with him.’ ~Tate

I'll be honest, while I wouldn't mind watching a drag show, I wasn't so sure when I picked this book up, that having one of the main characters be a drag queen would be my cup of tea. But Christina did a remarkable job at separating Frieda Love from Tate. Yes, they are one in the same, but Tate was definitely all man when he was not in drag.

I'll start with the person that touched me most in this book, and that's Sebastian. I loved his back story, and my heart broke for him. I wanted to wrap him up in a big old hug and wash all his worries away. He was sweet and lovable, yet quiet, shy and a little awkward. Tate is the polar opposite, especially as Frieda Love. He is loud, outgoing, friendly and proud of who he has become.

They had a chemistry that was out of this world. This was a slow burn, they took their time getting to know one another. They were friends before they became lovers and that always makes for the best relationships. I loved how this the author handled Sebastian coming to terms with his sexuality. She took her time with it and it was paced realistically. This story took its time without being slow or dragging.

I loved the secondary characters of Annie and Tori. They were amazing friends to Sebastian and Tate, and I loved that our mc's had such loving friends to help them through the rough times and at times to tell them to pull their heads out of their butts!!

This was a well written and very enjoyable read. Christina is one of my favorite authors and I can't wait to read what's coming next!! Highly recommended!!

I love M/M books, but I am new to the effeminate/genderfluid reads within the genre with this one being only my second one but can I just say I think I have found my new addiction.

I absolutely loved that Tate was firm in his self and his self confidence just oozed off the page, making you believe you were as fierce as he was. Freida Love his Drag Queen Alter ego was also a force to be reckoned with and I just loved everything she portrayed.

Sebastian was an absolute doll, from the very first second we met him, you just knew he was gonna be one of those Hero's that you fall in love with and hope to never have to say goodbye.

I enjoyed how their friendship turned into something more, both of them discovering something new about each other along the way. The whole YouTube tutorials and Feeding the homeless plus clothing them was interesting subplots to go along with the romance.

Whilst I really enjoyed the book, I think after the first angst breakdown of the relationship, when they again to go on and have a misunderstanding - I feel like the wrong MC apologized.. said MC didn't do anything wrong, just was himself and the other one blew it all outta proportion so I would of preferred to see him grovel seeing as MC #1 had already proved how sorry he was with the prior problem. {Riddles much LOL}

A good continuation of the series, I do really hope we get more.

A Pretty Boy Kissing a Handsome Boy...It’s Love!

A straight guy Sebastian and a drag queen Tate walk into a bar and find love. Ms Lee is a good storyteller, a good writer. I enjoyed this tale even though the premise is a tried and true trope. I like the MCs and the minor characters. This story has some angst, a bit of drama but it isn’t heavy...it’s charming and sweet in the end.

Blurb:

After licking his wounds from a painful relationship, Tate Sullivan is ready to move back home. He picks up where he left off as drag queen extraordinaire Frieda Love in a West Village bar in New York City. He doesn’t expect to be drawn to the mysterious man with the dark eyes who shows up to every single performance—flirtatiously eyeing Tate one second and disappearing on him the next. Why mess around with a guy who is clearly giving him mixed signals?

Sebastian Clark is on a mission the first night he shows up at Ruby Redd’s. He doesn’t anticipate his plan being flipped on its head by the charismatic drag queen and even more so by the mesmerizing man beneath the makeup. But the more he learns about the vibrant and brash Tate Sullivan the more intrigued he becomes. So he pushes aside his guilt about why he sought out the bar in the first place in order to get to know the guy behind the stilettos.

They’re opposites on many levels, but as Tate spends time volunteering with Sebastian at the shelter, he begins to feel good about himself in ways he hadn’t before. For Sebastian, Tate represents a sense of fun and freedom that is completely fresh and invigorating. Before they know it, their easy companionship catches fire, and Sebastian is kissing a man for the first time, while Tate is opening his heart to new possibilities. But Sebastian is still keeping a secret, and Tate will have to decide if he can trust again, or if the betrayal he feels from Sebastian’s confession is too much to overcome.

Review:
“Well dmn, because the way his lips devoured mine made me want more. I already liked hanging with him, but now I just really liked him. And that could prove to be a dangerous situation for me. But when had it become an actual situation?”

4 stars!! Seriously I think this had become one of my absolute favorite series!!

Tate has just gotten out of a horrible relationship and he’s ready to get back to his true self. Which mean being drag queen Frieda Love again and doing his drag shows in the west village of New York. And he loves his job, but he loves the handsome stranger who watched him while on stage, only disappear afterwards. Sebastian is instantly intrigued with Tate the minute he sees him, but he’s not used to having these feelings for a man. But when these two come together, it’s explosive! Sebastian is exploring his true feelings and true self but he’s holding on to a secret that could threaten to ruin what he has with Tate.

I’m so emotionally invested into this series!!! Each book is different and unique in their own way, but each one has so much heart in it!! This one is, ugh, I don’t even think I can put into words how perfect this book is! This might be my favorite in the series! Christina sure knows how to write one steamy book with heart!
