About the author

Daniel Manus Pinkwater is an author of mostly children's books and is an occasional commentator on National Public Radio. He attended Bard College. Well-known books include Lizard Music, The Snarkout Boys and the Avocado of Death, Fat Men from Space, Borgel, and the picture book The Big Orange Splot. Pinkwater has also illustrated many of his books in the past, although for more recent works that task has passed to his wife Jill Pinkwater.

Werewolves and a vampire travel via a space/time machine back to 1890, help Sherlock Holmes save the crown jewels, meet Queen Victoria all in the space of one short book by Daniel Pinkwater. If you know me at least a little you'll know that Pinkwater is my favorite author so it's no surprise that I loved this book - probably 4.5 stars but I'll round down because it was shorter than I would have liked.

Recommended highly.

The beginning started off wonderfully strong and amusing. The rest had a decent plot, but stayed somewhat even-keeled. Oliver Twit's character was just kinda there, and the big bad they had to defeat played a minor role. Sherlock Holmes was a interesting inclusion, and I did enjoy how Talbot's mother had to save the day, leaving Sherlock basically butthurt. I prefer the group interactions, and I wanted more of what was wonderfully displayed in the beginning.

Also... is this the end of the series? Noooooo!
