I think this'll be my last read of 2018!!

Not a bad way to end the year :)
I've read and enjoyed a few Sheri Whitefeather books in the past.
It's also - whew- been a while since I've read a Harlequin Desire so ... :X are they hotter now? Allowed to be hotter? Some scenes were pretty steamy.
It wasn't quite as erotic as say other publishers/erotic romances, but you know, this is a Harlequin category line, so.

I did have some issues (also I always wonder a smidge about ... like ... I dunno I guess I'm hyper aware/overly aware of not fetishizing?) and she used "half-breed" at least once and WOW I was not a fan of that ...

I liked that being Choctaw wasn't just "a thing" for the hero but clearly a significant part of his life (although the tattoos were low key info dumping IMO)
-> I really liked the heroine Carol and how steady she was. I a smidge considering like HOW stringent she was portrayed - didn't really believe she'd have hooked up with her boss/just .... gone along with ~everything but ... you know. Some suspension of disbelief for romance.

I was also a teeny bit underwhelmed/disappointed with him ~admitting his feelings - and I get there are strict word count/limits so ... maybe that was a part too - but overall I really liked it.
What I DO wish is that there had been less about Garrett and the [whoever ~convict] I assume will be the couple of the next book - like - can we not? Because they GET the next book - leave this one for Jake and Carol okay?

I actually like that Jake told Carol she was broken too - and that he doesn't mean it in a BAD way. It was nice that he challenged her - and that she obviously changed him.
Maybe my heart is stone, but ... the ring he gives her. I appreciate the connection between them/their heritage but also ... so. much. eyerolling. Maybe it's the whole growing up with Buffy claddagh ring no thing - but ... oh man. *shakes head* I guess I'm a hater cuz I just ... :X with a grown ass adult giving/wearing one :X
😅 guess I'm not Irish enough? :P

I can see myself re-reading this book though, and I was smiling at parts. A nice quick satisfying read, especially if you like category romances.

Solid C I think

The Trip that Changes their Life Afterwards

“But I can’t marry you, Carol. I hope you understand that.”

Jake and Carol both come from similar backgrounds and understand each other well enough to know both of them hides their pain that no one can see. Yet, both of them have a different perspective of life and different personalities as well – Carol is more rational, analytical, and a perfectionist of everything, and Jake is more reckless, wild in his own way who has issues to settle down and falling in love because of his childhood experiences.

This story as it was short wasn’t too bad, however I felt the story a bit boring, scenes overly stretched, nothing much exciting happening there. Sheri’s writing style (grammar) is well advanced, the only problem is her story line. I believe if she works more on her story lines she could be a great author in the future.

"I really enjoyed Sheri Whitefeather's latest book, "Waking up with the boss". I would give this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. Although it didn't seem like Jake and Carol had much in common from outward appearances, they were actually tied together by similar childhoods and were unaware of a cultural tie through their ancestors" (review @ Harlequin.com) To read more, go HERE> http://www.harlequin.com/storeitem.ht...
