81 books232 followersManuel Alfonseca (Madrid, 1946) is a writer and professor in a Spanish university (Autónoma de Madrid) where he was director of the Escuela Politécnica Superior (2001-2004). He worked 22 years in IBM. He has published over 200 scientific articles and many papers and posts on popular science, in Spanish and English. He is the author of over 50 books on computer science, popular science, historic novel, science-fiction and young adult literature, published in Spanish, English, French and other languages. He was awarded the Lazarillo Award (1988) and the La Brújula Award (2012). He is the son of the painter and sculptor Manuel Alfonseca (Santana).

ESPAÑOL: Escribí la primera edición de este libro en algo más de dos años, entre 1982 y 1984, siendo publicado un año después por Editorial Alhambra, lo que le convirtió en el tercero de mis libros de divulgación que publicaba esa editorial.
Más de dos décadas más tarde, en el año 2007, tuve la oportunidad de volver a publicar el libro en Ediciones UAM, y decidí rehacerlo de arriba abajo. Aunque mantuve varios de los capítulos, los puse al día, y añadí al final dos capítulos nuevos: uno sobre el tiempo relativista, y otro sobre los viajes en el tiempo. Esta edición resultó ser casi el doble de larga que la versión anterior y se publicó en 2009.
En 2022, una vez descatalogado el libro por Ediciones UAM, he vuelto a publicarlo, esta vez en autoedición a través de Amazon. Esta tercera versión del libro es prácticamente idéntica a la segunda, aunque se han corregido las erratas.
El libro ha sido traducido al inglés y está publicado.
ENGLISH: I wrote the first edition of this book in just over two years, between 1982 and 1984, being published one year later by Editorial Alhambra, which made it the third of my books on science popularization issued by that publisher.
More than two decades later, in 2007, I had the opportunity to republish the book in Ediciones UAM, and decided to redo it from top to bottom. Although I kept several chapters, I updated them, and added two new chapters at the end: one on relativistic time, and one on time travel. This edition, which turned out to be almost twice as long as the previous version, was published in 2009.
In 2022, once the book was discontinued by Ediciones UAM, I self-published it again through Amazon. This third version of the book is practically identical to the second, although misprints have been corrected.
The book has been translated into English, and it has been published.
Más de dos décadas más tarde, en el año 2007, tuve la oportunidad de volver a publicar el libro en Ediciones UAM, y decidí rehacerlo de arriba abajo. Aunque mantuve varios de los capítulos, los puse al día, y añadí al final dos capítulos nuevos: uno sobre el tiempo relativista, y otro sobre los viajes en el tiempo.
