Turn Up The Wick

The book covers Beamer's entire life, from childhood to the present, but the main focus (160 of the 222 pages in the book) is on his efforts to build the football program at Virginia Tech. "The book could have been subtitled, 'How Frank Beamer Built Virginia Tech Into a National Football Power.' That was my take on it," Colston says.

Was fun to read about one of my childhood heroes. Happy the VT administration gave him a long leash in those early years. Sad the book only went through the 1999 season

This is one of those books that fills a very specific niche, and is only really relevant if you were a VT football fan during the Beamer era through 2000, or like me became invested in the team later on. Its definitely a time capsule but a fun read for Hokie fans.

This book is a bit dated now but I just got around to reading it a couple of months ago. You're not going to learn a lot of new facts if you are a Hokie football fan but the book does contain some personal insights from Frank Beamer that were quite interesting. A requisite read for any old or new Hokie football fan.

I guess you have to be a real football nut to like this. Lots of memories of specific games and players.
