After I make something out of this book, I may change the rating. I read cookbooks like a novel when I first get them. I've been jonesing for this one since I read more about Leslie Revsin after making one of her dishes from her "Simpler The Better" series...Chicken with Purple Olives, Roasted Red Pepper and Garlic. It's a staple for me now. This book will hopefully help me figure out what to make with what...she lays out sample menus in different categories and offers variations. Her philosophy is to do as much ahead as possible and the recipes reflect that. You'd expect a ton of pasta for quick meals but she does better than that. It does run from appetizers to dessert, I'm hoping that since the recipes are do-ahead friendly, they'll also be good for when you need to send a meal to someone who for whatever reason needs a break from cooking like a neighbor with a new baby. One thing that goes against everything I was taught: these recipes that include potatoes start them in boiling water and I was always taught to start them in cold water so they cook uniformly. Hmmmm.
