I thought this book was okay. I read it during my first pregnancy and was hoping to have a supernatural birth, but God had other plans. I had a natural birth at home during a span of 29 hours. It was painful, but after it was all said and done. I wouldn't have had my birth any other way. I felt like I grew stronger spiritually through the intense pain and now many of my fears in general are gone. I have nothing against praying for a supernatural birth, but please know that pain should not be feared. It should be used to strengthen you and not bring you down. If God blesses you with a pain free birth, that's great, but if he doesn't, it's not your fault.
I would personally read this book with joy as a testimony to what God is capable of, but don't be scared if God doesn't give you the birth you desire because he honestly does know better.
Bad theology. Little information on the actual birth process which is glorious to understand from a Christian worldview. Also found it hilarious how anti-homebirth the authors came across. They don’t even see the irony of it all.
It just weirded me out too much. I had a hard time connecting. While I absolutely believe that God answers our prayers and gives us the desires of our hearts, and that miracles happen and we should always move forward through life in faith and focus that God is in control and means to bless us, I just can't connect beyond to the idea that any pain in childbirth is a result of fear and the devil, and that things like a C-section or asking for pain medication are not moving forward in faith that God is in control. In the end, I take from this book a hearty agreement that our God is a big God who is capable of creating life and sharing miracles in ways we can't even comprehend, but leave behind the idea that complications in pregnancy, pain in labor, medicine, etc. are results of lack of faith in what God can do.
I relied on this book for my first pregnancy because I was looking for something to cling to going into the unknown. I ended up having a difficult induction and NOT pain-free labor and delivery. My expectations were shattered as I experienced something so different from the natural, pain-free birth I expected and wanted. Can God take away pain from childbearing? Yes, I believe He could if He so desired. But God is Sovereign, and His ways are Higher than our ways. God may choose to allow pain and suffering although we may not understand it. Suffering is biblical and Jesus experienced it as He went to the cross. And He did it with an attitude of submission toward the Father's will. I have since grown to realize that an attitude of submission, not expectation, would have been the most beneficial and true for what I experienced.
You must understand that if you experience pain, an induction, a C-section, a miscarriage, or struggle with fertility issues, it is absolutely NOT because of a personal lack of faith or because of a "below average" faith as this book describes it. God is good, and He is 100% faithful. But this book is the prosperity gospel.
My whole gripe with this book is that the entire premise is nonsensical. Since when does faith abandon reason? Genesis clearly states that one of the punishments for the fall was guaranteed pain in childbirth. In a pre-lapsarian world, childbirth would have been painless. Yes, I know that our faith in the (NT) promises of God give us victory in this life, but I don't believe that victory always comes without pain. Nor do I believe that God intended us to retrofit and isolate verses of personal encouragement to build a case for pain-free childbirth, or pain-free ANYTHING for that matter.
Did I have pain in childbirth? It was minimal. But not because I believed that i wouldn't. Simply because I knew that God and my doctors would help me through it. I know so many women who were disillusioned after their childbirth experiences by taking this book way too literally.
1. The husband and wife should be in agreement on how labor should go and what is expected of each. 2. Fear, and to add my own word, particularly, stress, causes many of the child birth complications and can be dealt with through prayerful consideration. 3. Pain is the result of fear.
Critique:
1. The Bible promises us that things in life will be okay, bearable, not pain free because of the power of Jesus. I don’t know how anyone could say that if complications during labor arise then it is a direct result of not being faithful enough. I understand the idea of resilience during pregnancy and changing the mindset of labor, but I won’t go as far to say that my wife wasn’t faithful because her delivery lasted 42 hours with our first child when she prayed through every contraction. 2. I really hated that the author looked down on some practice and called other Christians “flakey,” though her idea of child birth sounds inconsistent and flakey as well. Again, if a baby is breached or too small, does that really mean she didn’t have enough faith? Couldn’t this be a part of God’s plan too? 3. As I kind of mentioned before, Gods plan is different for everyone, and when we pray as how the author suggest we take our plan and make it God’s. It takes faith to know that you will have a successful pregnancy, but it also takes faith and courage to know when things are turning too far in the other direction, and other interventions and faith in God’s people may be needed. Just because your body had a quick births, does not mean that all women are “set up” to have quick births.
Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: This book was a blessing to my husband and me. It encouraged me to spend even more time in the Bible renewing my mind with the Word concerning childbirth. The time in the Word coupled with the encouragement in this book, reminded me I have been redeemed from the curse of the law. My first daughter was 28hrs of labor & LOTS of pain! She was almost an only child. However, I a young lady at my child told me that it didn’t have to be that why so I began to search the Bible and then found this book from a ministry that I trust. I used this book in my study time in the Word of God prior to getting pregnant. My second daughter was delivered in 5 hours and NO pain and NO fear. The doctor and nurses were laughing with me and asking my husband if I was really having a baby. Later that night, all the nurses that checked in on me after the delivery asked if I even had a baby. Both daughters weighed exactly the same at birth, born exactly 2yrs 22 days, 2hrs and 20mins apart. Only difference was me trusting and believing the Word of God concerning the birth and delivery! Just to set the record straight, God’s Word didn’t change, I allowed His Word to change ME! I recently shared this book with my Starbuck's barista after she shared her sister had experienced several miscarriages and the next year she told me her sister was pregnant and standing on God's promises. She had a son, great labor and even the extended family was so blessed and encouraged in the Lord! This book will encourage you and provoke you to seek God regarding His promises.
The whole book was based on a completely unbiblical principle. It twisted Scripture to fit its purposes. The whole thing was incredibly irritating and made me a bit sick at times. :( I highly suggest not reading this book if you want accurate biblical theology.
1.5 ⭐️ The theology in this book is very… different and is very much prosperity gospel. God is able to do these things, but He also has the authority to not and it is not entirely based on our faith but His ultimate plan.
I had high hopes for this book, but I was very disappointed (and aggravated.) First, the scripture references in the first chapter alone are twisted and out of context. The Exodus 1 example is pretty straight forward; you only have to read what's immediately before and after the part she quotes to see that she has taken a tiny part and given it her own meaning. Second Timothy 2:15 is a bit trickier, but after looking in my study Bible it is apparent that she has also given that verse her own interpretation that doesn't make sense with the literal translation. We can unpack those in the comments if anyone looks it up and wants me to explain further. With such a lack of scriptural basis, how can I trust anything she has to say on the matter? Second, I have seen this kind of have-enough-faith-and-all-your-worldly-problems-go-away prosperity gospel seriously harm souls. It is a dangerous game and not at all what Jesus taught. Overall I don't think it's worth reading at all, most importantly because she is comfortable making up interpretations of God’s Holy Word to suit her own desires and purposes. "How can people have the impudence to tear off half a text to make it teach what is not true?" - C.H. Spurgeon
Honestly this book is creepy. I didn’t even finish it- barely started it. These people are relying on religious charismatic spirits in false religion to guarantee them a “painless” birth. The Bible clearly states Christ labored in pain and travail over His Church. This books completely ignores that and pulls a bunch of random “promises” that God will give us what we ask. I truly believe you can trust God for a pregnancy and delivery like you can any other part of your life, and that He will help a woman to enjoy and be strong in her delivery. However speaking forceful mantras over your baby and assuming that delivery pain is from the devil is ridiculous and dangerous.
A must read for any woman interested in delivering their baby naturally -- no meds, no pain, no tearing -- i.e., supernaturally. I experienced supernatural childbirth twice. Both times were the most empowering experiences of my life! I cannot say enough good things about this book.
I would also recommend this book to anyone recovering from a miscarriage or struggling with infertility. The many prayers and scriptures compiled here will encourage you to press into the Lord and renew your faith.
This book is great in that the author addresses one of the main things women deal with when preparing to deliver: fear. My biggest take away was the power of confession. If you’re reading this book and plan to have a pain-free birth, you will likely be disappointed. But if you read this book with an open mind and focus on her teaching about the power of prayer and faith-filled confessions, you will be encouraged and experience growth.
This feels very prosperity teaching 😬 I believe the Bible to be true, but many of the “promises” to claim are taken out of context, and many of the beliefs promoted in this book go against reality: there are a multitude of people who love and trust God who DO experience miscarriage, infertility, and traumatic childbirth. The Bible DOES promise healing and comfort and life, but it doesn’t say that pain isn’t a part of the Christian life, or that suffering can be avoided by believing enough. It is almost humorous to me that some of the verses used to support the idea that there is no place for suffering are taken out of passages where the author is literally in the midst of suffering and encouraging believers to take heart in the midst of trials and tribulations and grief. There was, however, a part about fear and surrendering fear to God that I found helpful and encouraging, and some of the verses provided (and not taken out of context) will be helpful encouragements for me as I prepare for childbirth. I’d rather share a summary of the high points points than recommend this book as a whole!
It was an okay book! I enjoyed the section on confessions and prayers at the end that walks you through a prayer and what specially to pray for in each stage of pregnancy. The book is super simple and a very easy read. I wish there was more depth though. The book is split into 3 sections - Terry and Jackie’s own journey and application of biblical truths, testimonies, and prayer and confessions. Main theme of the book is the power of God’s word and the access we have to it through Him. The book was very scripture-focused and demonstrated how we can apply God’s word and promises when it comes to pregnancy and delivery but IMO the book was surface-level and lacked depth.
My rating for this instantly went to 1 when the author wanted to tell someone that “God doesn’t want you to have your children at home” and “God didn’t tell you that”. For someone preaching about listening and fully trusting in God, it’s crazy to be so anti home birth and then to even tell people that God didn’t tell them that.
Quick read - definitely some name it claim it vibes/taking it with a grain of salt; but appreciated the approach/posture regarding fear of childbirth, and inspired me to be praying about labor and delivery (in a non-anxious manner).
When I stumbled across this book, I didn't know how much my perspective would change and my faith would grow! I was so excited as I read through it the first time, and before we were even pregnant my husband and I began to pray and declare many of God's promises from the Bible outlined in this book. I was so glad to learn of the testimonies in this book and be reminded that God's way is always better than the world's way. I will gladly recommend this book to pregnant friends and family. Husbands should read it too!
God used this book and a few other resources to build my faith to believe for "outrageous" things. I was healed of a physical imbalance and was able to conceive, I became pregnant with twins (I'd asked God for twins!), I had a very blessed and comfortable pregnancy with only a few issues we'll believe to avoid next time, I carried the twins to a great gestational age, and I had an amazing labor and delivery! While I experienced some pain, it was minimal, and the nurses were in awe. One said she wouldn't have believed how far I was in labor if she wouldn't have just checked me! I delivered my twins without any pain medication and did not need a C section. They are wonderful, healthy babies and we cannot wait to see the incredible destiny God has for each of them!
This book is a short read but I devoured it many times. Wonderful book I will refer to many times in future pregnancies!
Extreme “Word of Faith” beliefs and way of thinking. Of course it was written/published during the height of ministries of prosperity gospel teachers like Kenneth Copeland, Kenneth Hagan, Benny Hin, etc. Twisted scriptures to say “God WILL do what I am believing him to do because I’m saying He will.” God is not a Cosmic vending machine. Of course he CAN do anything. But when he doesn’t deliver on what you’re hoping He will, they will simply say you didn’t have enough faith or you didn’t tithe enough. This is such a dangerous and harmful way of thinking. If you want to battle fear in pregnancy and labor, educate yourself on what realistic expectations are. Knowledge is the enemy of fear, not “manifesting” your hopes and dreams.
Hmm, can’t say I’d recommend this book but what I do recommend is that we read and learn from God by ourselves through scripture. This will help us build our trust in God and God wants us to trust Him, pray with thanksgiving and rejoice through any and every circumstance.
God wants us to focus on eternal things - love, peace, joy. So what? You have a pain free delivery, great. Unfortunately one of their kids still died a young death. Pain and suffering is temporary, life on Earth is temporary. Don’t let yourself be consumed by ‘living your best life now’ there is a best life to come, don’t lose focus on Jesus.
I read this book some years ago and it changed my entire way of thinking about having children. It opened the scriptures to me in a new way. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who wants to have children. I lost my first copy but plan to get another copy within the next few days to read again and again.
I could not have done without this book. It is a true jewel for all pregnant women. It builds your faith to an enormous level, and after reading it and praying about it, I truly had a supernatural childbirth. I pray that every woman that reads this had the same revelations that I had.
It is an easy book that you can finish quickly. I liked parts of the book and other parts not. This book have lots of theological flaws that can not be overlooked and for women that experienced pain in labor can it cause guilt and feelings of having not enough faith. Be careful
This book blessed me beyond words. I learned from this book it doesnt matter what you been told by doctors they dont have the last say my God does and he's the healer.
This is wonderful! I heard of this recently & had to check it out.
Fact is, most Believers had no clue what they really signed up for, or what covenant means: those in 100% covenant with our Maker through Jesus get to partake in all the promises of His Word - no one else gets to do that. It's a marriage contract.
I notice some negative reviews were because those people had miscarriages and were angry. I pray God will give them peace & understanding. No one can blame this book, however. There could be many reasons for that, including demonic/open doors in their life, that they need to break off/repent/remove. Maybe they caved to fear, who knows! Here's what we must cling to: God is love, He wants our good. He is not a liar. I pray everyone receives Holy Spirit revelation how to operate in wisdom and in truth for their & their family's lives.
The only issue I've had reading this, is somewhat minor. You can tell the author gets very riled on the topic of home birth, in a very fleshly angry way. Here's what we need to know in 2024: this book was written decades ago, where birth scenery was then much different. God bless whatever your decision may be, through His leading.
Good education to know what to guard against, and how to think in alignment with the mind of Christ, the heart of the Father, Abba! And the help and leading of the Holy Spirit.
I read this for my first pregnancy and was so encouraged by the scriptures and declarations and was thankful I read it as I had a lot of fears. However, I don’t agree with word of faith/“name it and claim it” theology and think this book could be extremely damaging and hurtful for people who struggle with fertility or are in a church where they are taught that not having enough “faith” or praying enough determines healing/blessing from God. There is suffering and pain in this world, and the Bible is full of Christians suffering—and NOT as punishment from God. I would not recommend to a new believer or someone with painful pregnancy experiences because you definitely have to chew the meat and spit out the bones.
WOW! this book isn't just a book for expecting mothers. i believe every woman wanting children should read this. it will change everything- even pre conception. i am so excited and prepared going into birth because of reading and understanding more of God's promises to me. I wish i would've read this before but now, i will read it so many times!
Convinced I ended up highlighting the entire book. A short book I finished in less than a day, but full of such truth! Full of scripture + finished work! Z and I walk in this in our finances, our regular health, and home, marriage, etc. But never thought to apply it to labor/birth?? So thankful for the reminder!! Convinced everyone woman who believes it was DONE at the cross needs to read this!
if you ever read this book I would take it with a grain of salt and really depend on the holy spirit’s discernment - have a lot of thoughts but major takeaway is that it has encouraged me to be more prayerful in pregnancy so for that I am thankful!
