There is nothing broken in Rock Ridge that Kate Flaherty can't fix, except for the law. As prison convicts get released on parole and crime climbs, Kate doesn't need a badge and baton to put the pieces together. Her paintbrush and quick wit will get the job done.
But when a local ex-con with deep roots in this town winds up dead in the parking lot of Daisy's diner, a world of trouble emerges that once again pits Kate against her Police Chief husband.
Becky Langley has been abducted. Residents and convicts are at odds. If Kate doesn't fill the gaps with well-drawn connections and paint a picture Scott York is willing to see, her precious town will fall prey to a killer on the loose.
This is one fix it job that could come in at too high a cost.
At the start of book 6, her sons have both graduated from college (side note: from the University of Pennsylvania. Which is an Ivy League school. Costs around $30,000 a year min just tuition for ONE!!! She's got twins. She's a handywoman.....) and moved home. One is working at the mayors office, and one is running a construction company.....flash forward to book 7 (which takes place immediately after book 6), the one running the construction company is unemployed but submits an application and gets hired by the construction company he ran in book 6.
The name of Celia's reporter boyfriend/guy on the side is Eric Demblowski, but in book 7, he's suddenly Alex Demblowski.
Mrs. Fix It buys 5!!!!! cans of paint to cover a storage closet. Has the author never painted in her entire life??
Mrs. Fix It loads the back of her truck with furniture she's renting to stage a house for sale.....have you ever seen the bed of a truck belonging to a worker like that? It's filthy!!! Paint, dust, etc. Also...she unloads the furniture in the garage as well as then later brings it into the house....BY HERSELF!!!! Couch, queen size bed.....upstairs.....
Six Flags is building a amusement park in some little podunk town in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania. Oooookkkkk. Their small town in nowhereville is the new Dallas, Atlanta, St.Louis.... Plus instead of the usual years of negotiations, it happens in the matter of days.
I could go on and on and on. I mean seriously. Damn!
I really enjoy this series, but the relationship between Kate and Scott is not a strong or a good one. His cop abilities are not so great all the time, and they are not on the same page in their investigations, and this is adding stress to their marriage. This does not a comfortable read make. I'm hoping that things will get better as the 'season' moves along, but if this continues, I may drop this series and concentrate on ones I love more.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
At least this one was not as formulaic as the previous ones. However there are a lot of things that are still the same. And this amusement park thing is seriously really fucking stupid. Why the hell would Six Flags randomly build an amusement park in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania? That makes even less sense than how all these stupid people are connected with all these drug deals and kidnappings and whatever.
At this point I am solely reading these because they are so short and they will help me get ahead on my Goodreads challenge for this year so I can work on my own writing and not worry about falling behind.
This volume was EXCELLENT! If there was a higher rating number than five to click, I'd click it. You betcha! I would highly recommend this series! You really can't skip volumes though because you'll miss something. Btw, this whole series of like 15 volumes was on sale on Amazon for almost nothing when I purchased it! What a find! I am so enjoying this series!
The plot thickens, was it Becky who Kate saw outside Daisy's; why is Meredith being so cagey; who killed Clifford? the questions are stacking up, but the residents of the town are getting worried - how are the latest events going to affect trade, and will the town survive the amusement park? I enjoyed reading this part of the story and like how each part of tge whole story is a story on its own.
Very cute cookie cuter mysteries that I devoured while I was cruising to Mexico... pretty sure I read 7 of the books in the series. This is a very cute mystery series to read if you are in the mood for something to take your mind off the world and have a little fun.
in this installment Kate, Miss fix it is still looking for her daughter-in-law. Becky was kidnapped two stories ago and it's getting down to the nitty-gritty trying to find her. We get a little bit closer in this book but still did not have an answer. Hopefully the next book reveals a little bit more.
