It was meant to be the job opportunity of a life time.

It turned out to be so much more…

At the age of twenty five, Emma Lexington takes off to New York on a once in a life time twelve-month job exchange with the New York Warriors. Determined to make the most of the opportunity, she prepares herself for life in the big apple—fast paced, exciting and a whole lot of fun. What she hasn’t prepared for though, is meeting him.

The charming Will Jensen is in the prime of his playing career. As the star quarterback for the Warriors, his carefree, football centric life is thrown into disarray when he meets Emma, the beautiful, easy going Australian girl who joins the Warriors staff.

Unwilling to throw her professional reputation away on a fling with the playboy quarterback, Emma turns down Will’s advances, even though she can’t deny the attraction she feels for him. Their pull toward one another grows, but it takes a near disaster for Emma to finally give Will a chance.

Getting together might have been hard, but figuring out how to stay together will prove even more challenging as Emma must decide between conflicting loyalties.

Lexington and 42nd is a fun, sexy romance, set in the exciting world of the NFL in the fabulous city of New York.

When Emma Lexington was sent to New York in an exchange program with the New York Warriors, she never expected it to be more than just a job. But after meeting Warriors’ quarterback, Will Jensen, Emma’s plan of keeping her head down, working and making her club back in Sydney was put in jeopardy at their obvious chemistry.

Jensen is young, successful and famous for his arm and his exploits off the field. But when he meets Emma, he suddenly found himself wanting her. Rebuffed by Emma, Jensen found himself intrigued and in pursuit of her.

Emma has a reason for not wanting anything to do with Will. For one, her stay in New York is temporary. She’s there for a job. Second, fraternizing with the players and frowned upon. But there’s another reason which is revealed later on in the book which perfectly explained why Emma was adamant about not starting anything with Will.

While I did like this book, I wasn’t wowed by it. It has everything any sport romance lover like me going for it. Hot and cocky athlete hero? Check. Sassy and endearing heroine? Check. Hot sexy times? Heck, yeah. Where it fell for me a little bit was the conflict. Don’t get me wrong, Emma’s struggle with keeping her job and at the same time allowing herself to fall for Jensen is a good conflict. I just didn’t feel like it was well developed. I didn’t feel a sense of urgency or felt like they were really doing anything wrong. Maybe because the characters themselves weren’t as developed as I would have liked. I didn’t feel anything for them, you know. They acted okay. They were good people and a good match but they didn’t have a lot of depth to them either.

Also, little things like the hero referring to his team as “club” was like that little thorn that got under my skin. I could understand the heroine referring to it as club since she’s Australian. And those are her thoughts and they’re consistent with her character–although, at some point, I feel like she has to acknowledge that no one in America calls an NFL team club and get with the program. The hero on the other hand is American. It feels weird reading about an American athlete refers to his team as club.

That said, I’m keeping an eye out for this series and this author. I’m obsessed with sports romance and this series sounds right up my alley. And the set-up for the next book already had me curious.

description

This was fun, sweet and sexy. I enjoyed the light-heartedness of the writing, the incessant banter between the characters and the cute slow-burn love story between Will and Emma.

The characters were really likeable.
Even though I didn't always see eye to eye with Emma's decisions and behavior, she made me laugh out loud several times, and I found her to have a very pleasant voice.
Will probably ranks among my top 5 favorite alpha heroes ever, he was so awesome. I loved that Kim Carmody didn't create one of those interchangeable alpha douches, but made him wonderfully approachable and realistic. He wasn't always in control of every situation, he was scared of spiders and sometimes didn't have the right words to say, he was sweet and considerate, but incredibly flirty and sexy. Anyone who enjoys a determined hero chasing after the heroine without being too pushy about it will get their money's worth with this book.
I loved Emma's friends and colleagues, though I wish there would've been a little more on Will's team mates. Buck was pretty cool and I hope the next installment will be about him.

I wouldn't exactly label this book low-angst due to a lot of push and pull behavior on Emma's part and , but the light and easy atmosphere made it totally bearable.

This may not be a literary masterpiece, but if you're looking for something cheerful, something that will make you laugh and swoon and feel good, you should give Lexington and 42nd a shot.
A great debut!

Thanks to Netgalley and Kim Carmody for giving me a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I have very mixed feelings regarding this book. Australian Emma Lexington flies to New York for a one-year exchange program with the company in charge of the New York Warriors. Emma has to work her ass out and stay out of trouble while she is working for the company that might potentially save the company she is working for in Australia.

In comes Will Jensen, the New York Warriors' quarterback. Emma's officemates warn her against Will, who allegedly has a thing for brunettes (proven true), but because of work, the two are often thrown into each other's company. They instantly connect, and Emma struggles to distance herself from the one person she can't date.

I love sports romance novels. There's just something about the big strong guy falling in love that just makes me sigh and feel fuzzy and happy. I wanted to like Will, but I couldn't stand it when he acted so entitled just because he was nice to Emma and flirted with her. He was nice most of the time, but I don't know if that's "nice" or genuinely nice.

"Yeah, but you see, there's a difference between you and me. I'm not the one leading you on. I wanted you tonight, and I didn't care if the whole fucking club knew it. You, on the other hand, were happy to lead me on until I was left standing there with my dick in my hand."

See what I mean? Throughout the first half of the book, Emma told Will countless times that she can't go out with him. She told him they could only be friends. How is that leading someone on???

The only thing I didn't like about Emma is when she first met Will, she didn't even know who he was. She works for a PR agency that works for the New York Warriors, and she didn't even know who the quarterback was. Other than that, she tried her best to stay away from the tempting man, and she was nice and kind.

The conflict was so easily resolved that Emma's frustrations and anxiety to save her company and her job felt like it was all for naught.

There were funny parts and sweet parts, but I just couldn't get over Will's entitled ass. If someone talked to me the way he talked to Emma, I'd dump his gorgeous ass and walk away. I don't care how rich, handsome, and talented he is. No one should talk to me or anyone that way.

I'm sure others would enjoy this book, but it just wasn't for me.

2.5 stars.

Lexington and 42nd is a delightful debut novel by author Kim Carmody. I enjoyed her engaging narrative style and this lighthearted and sweet story was very pleasant to read.

I loved the hero, Will Jensen, the hot and swoon-worthy star quarterback of the New York NFL team. He has it all, the talent, the looks and a charming personality.

In the frame of a trial exchange program, Aussie PR Emma Lexington has been sent to "the city that never sleeps" to work for Will's football team. Her first encounter with Will is hilarious, as she forgot to google him and doesn't recognize him. And that pleases Will enormously ! He is attracted to Emma, but he is a bit of a flirt, so she doesn't trust him. Emma has a rather hesitant personality, but I felt that she did grow as the story progressed and moreover, she had her own reasons. Will’s relentless pursuit of the reluctant Emma was adorable.

"Lord knows I've shown interest in you from the start. It's not like it mattered though, you seemed to have made up your mind about me before we even met. I never stood a chance with you."

As for the pace of the story, I found it adequate for a romantic comedy. I was however sometimes frustrated to see that Will and Emma relationship progressed very slowly, or even at times not at all. It didn't bother me too much, though.

Overall, I enjoyed this sweet sport romance and will certainly follow this author in the future !

I thank the author for sending me a copy of her book in exchange for my honest feedback.

Lexington and 42nd was a hot, steamy romance that follows a realistic plot.

First of all, I loved the fact that this book was semi-realistic - it took time for the characters' relationship to build! These characters didn't just look at each other and fall in love. They went through romantic stages, they fought, they took in considerations like life choices and all the fun parts about being an adult before they made a decision. And as boring as that sounds, Kim Carmody made it thrilling and addicting!

These characters were also made very realistic. They weren't perfect, cookie-cutter characters - they had flaws and reasoning behind their actions. This made the book more interesting, since these characters had problems to face that wasn't just 'wow some guy doesn't think I'm hot'!

As a sports lover, this book was also quite the charmer. I don't like football, but it gave a realistic view into the life of a sport's fan (even if Emma isn't the biggest fan in the world).

Now, the "problems":
While there was conflict in the story, it wasn't very big. It was briefly touched on and seemed more like the side plot of the story. But, this is mainly a romance novel so it is understandable. This conflicting conflict might bug some readers.

Our main character was incredibly emotional, but that could just be how the character was built. I just find that having an emotional character might bug some readers (even though it shows she is a well built character to other readers).

Overall, I enjoyed this novel. It impressed me! I am definitely going to pick up the second book if I ever find it!

Five out of five stars!

But seriously I felt like I ran a marathon with this book and then I collapsed into a pile on the floor. I’m still frigging exhausted.

I was stoked when I saw that this book was Netgalley and even more so when the author approved my request.

Now the important part peeps.

All In all I give this book 3.5 ‘Bambi & Quarterback’ Stars. I know it’s a bit shite of me to split the stars but I’ll round it up to 4 Stars anyway.

Emma Lexington has the once in a lifetime opportunity. A trial exchange program to move from Sydney and the football club she works for to go and work with the American football team, the New York Warriors. Sounds simple but it ain’t. Emma drove me up the bloody wall. I had somewhat of a connection with Emma, I personally thought that she overreacted on some things.

Will Jensen, Quarterback of the New York Warriors. All American guy, good looks, lovely personality (most of the time anyway.) He see what he wants and he always gets his way.
Emma has two things that she needs to stick to.

First

“Don’t fuck this up, Lexington. Otherwise we’re all out of a job.” See what I mean? Loud and clear.

Second

Don’t get schmoozed by the Quarterback, maybe also recognize said Quarterback otherwise things might just get worse.

It is a battle of the wills

“God! It’s frustrating how you always get your way.” Will laughed. “Trust me, Im nowhere near getting my way with you.” I whirred around to face him. “Excuse me?” His eyebrows shot up. “Sorry, sorry. Friends, we’re just friends. I didn’t mean that.”

At 31 % I thought that we were finally getting somewhere but alas no. Finally a miracle occurred at 65 % of the book, Emma finally conceded at succumbed to her feelings for Will. Obviously it all went tits up and this is what I don’t get. So you don’t trust him you have issues but for me it was just too much. Good thing I can have my own opinion right.

In the end with everything I don’t think Emma deserved to be with Will. I mean really Emma?

 photo imagesVLS7XQJ6_zpssbu2gube.jpg

We do get Will’s POV with the epilogue.

So I might have stated that I didn’t agree with some things. But what made it a good book was that as far as I can tell it is a debut novel for this author and well I just can’t wait to hear/read more from this author.

ARGH: I sometimes hate GR. I just finished my review and for some unknown reasons the text got lost after I entered save!!!

So let's try again...

I had my difficulties with Emma because of her behavior. She was leading Will on and she blamed him because she couldn't resist him! In other words, I think she didn't even know what she wanted.
Gone were the flirtatious winks and the heated stares. In their place wasn’t exactly an unfriendliness, just…indifference. I hated it.

I hated the idea of him backing off but that was the very thing I’d asked him, no yelled at him, to do.

But luckily there is Nick, another guy who she was leading on, but who wasn't afraid to tell her the truth.
“Emma, I’m not an idiot. The tension between you two was obvious. Clearly there’s something going on.” I met his eyes. “It was nothing, Nick. Honestly. It was stupid, and it’s over.” He shook his head. “You should see yourself. It doesn’t look like some stupid little thing from where I’m standing.” He paused, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Look. I like you all right, but I’m not cool with being called up just because things went in the toilet with someone else.”

After this moment and an accident, Emma finally accepted her feelings towards Will and after a few up and downs they got their HFN.

The reasons why I finished this book are:
1. Will; I liked him, even though he wasn't completely honest at one point.
Fairly or not, she’d judged me before she really knew me.

2. There were some hilarious moments, e.g. When Emma meets Will's family for the first time.
“Have you just been swimming? You don’t have many clothes on.” Will’s eyes bulged and I could only nod, blushing as I felt the full weight of everyone’s attention on me, the one standing practically nude in my bikini.

3. Sports romance books are my favorites :)

3.5 This was a pretty good contemporary romance book!

Ok, I admit, I'm surprised that it was this good. I was expecting something less than average (don't ask me why, I have no clue). So imagine my surprise when I realized that I actually like this book!

It was cute and fun, a pretty fast read. I admit, there were some moments when I felt like it dragged a bit, but not a lot of them. And the story was a bit different than your average sports story, so yay!

Emma, the main female character, wasn't the smartest person I've ever seen in some situations but let's say that it's understandable. But I really liked the main male character. And I liked his family!

All in all, it's a pretty nice book, it's worth a try, specially if you're looking for a contemporary sports read.

Very readable sports romance!
Beyond being a nice guy, the H was clearly somewhat of a manho and also pulled a couple of jerk moves. So the romance was more about the h liking the H but not being able to trust him, which I could sympathize with, because for one the H didn't seem too smart and for two he didn't really go beyond to earn her trust. But still he was the one doing all the chasing and thats fun to read!

4 stars!

Genre: sports romance, CR
Sensuality: R

25 yr old Australian PR grunt meets NFL quarterback. Debut novel by Aussie author against an American football backdrop. (More on THAT later)

It was just ok. I read worse sports romances and I read better. The H was appealing and had to do a lot of chasing. It was the h that was the problem. She blew hot-n-cold too often thruout. I can see lots of readers finding her annoying or unlikable. I certainly thought so.

As for the fact that an Aussie author is writing about American football: you should stick with what you know or get a better football advisor. There were a few mistakes that jarred me from the story and made it obvious that the author did not know the NFL. Here's some:

Fact - Quarterbacks would never have a high uniform number like 42. It is a RB or defensive back number. There is a system to the numbers that can easily be googled here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nationa...

Fact - You don't get a Super Bowl ring on the day (or even a month near) you win a SB. It takes MONTHS to design and make those rings. They are usually presented the next season.

I loved this book! I read it straight through and just didn't want to put it down. What makes this sports romance book different? Will and Emma. Their chemistry started right from the beginning and it was very entertaining reading their banter back and forth. Will was extremely charming as he chased Emma. Will is the star quarterback for the Warriors and Emma is working for the team on a twelve month exchange program from Australia. I liked that Emma had no idea who Will was or how famous he was. Will was completely charmed by Emma from the first moment he laid eyes on her. His pursuit of her was relentless and entertaining. Emma wasn't immune to Will but she found out quickly it was a bad idea to get involved with one of the players and things started to crash around her only to be pulled back up by Will. This is one of my favorites by far!

I absolutely LOVED LEXINGTON AND 42nd!!!

I just heard about this book a couple of days ago, read a snippet of the excerpt on Amazon, bought it, and immediately dove right in! It's been on my mind constantly since I started, and I didn't want to stop reading any time that I picked it up---if only I didn't have to sleep or go to work, I would've finished it in one sitting!

I absolutely LOVED Will, and I really enjoyed Emma's perspective. She made a few decisions that I definitely wouldn't have done, but I liked that she stood up for herself, and didn't just blindly jump into things. I could've done with a bit more communication at times, but overall, I really enjoyed this story, and I definitely recommend it to other sports romance fans---Will is one seriously sexy quarterback! He was seriously sweet, yet also passionate and possessive at just the right moments. There was the perfect amount of tension between Emma and Will, and their chemistry was fantastic! They had a really great rapport between them, and I loved that they joked with each other! It was perfect and had me chuckling many times! :D

I definitely recommend this one! It's a recent favourite of mine, and I can't wait to read Kim Carmody's next book, MEET ME HALFWAY! It just came out this week and I'm extremely excited to read it! :D

Ooookkkayyy!

This was actually pretty decent! I had zero expectations given this author only has two books out, this one and it's sequel. I have no idea what possessed me to buy these books, but I've owned them for forever and 2023 is the year I finish this TBR.

Don't get me wrong, there are some corny and cliche bits in here, but in general, I really liked this.

I was actually kind of hoping that Sarah was going to be in the next book, I thought that would've been a fun contrast, but I guess I'll dive into Liv's story next.

Review by Trinette Dungee

Emma Lexington has embarked on the opportunity of a lifetime. She didn’t so much volunteer as she was “volun-told” that she would be a part of a 12-month job exchange program. While it’s the opportunity of a lifetime it also comes with a ton of pressure. If Emma can pull this off it means a big partnership between the American NFL and the Australian League. All she has to do is keep her eye on the prize and get her job done. Piece of cake…until the most delish piece of eye-candy has his eyes set on her. Emma’s reputation means everything to her and she’s not about to tarnish becoming involved with the NFL’s playboy quarterback; but Will makes it harder and harder to resist him.

Will Jensen isn’t just the star quarterback for the New York Warriors but he’s a star quarterback on the entire NFL. Used to living a carefree life, Will is enjoying is time at the top; but after meeting Emma, he starts to feel that something is missing in his life. The simple fact that Emma has no idea who he is when she first meets him is enough to have him kissing the ground she walks on but when Will see that there is more to Emma than just a pretty face. He’s determined to make her he’s. He’s knows Emma’s time in New York is limited but he’s going to try his darnedest to get her to stay…with him.

I really enjoyed this book. It was fun, quirky and sexy. I clicked with these characters immediately. Will wasn’t just a charmer; he was charming. Emma, was quirky and no nonsense. She had no problem putting Will in his place when needed.

If I’m not mistaken, I believe this is Kim Carmody’s first book. If it is, she did good. There’s not too much else to say about this book. There was a really good balance to the book, not to cheesy, not too much drama…just the right amount of everything to make a good read. This is book one in the Off Field series and I really look forward to reading the next books in the series.

Assuming this is a debut novel from this author, I have to say it's a pretty good debut novel.

First we have Emma Lexington, an Aussie girl who travels to New York on a 12 month job exchange to work for the New York Warriors where she meets the elusive Will Jensen, the All Star Quarterback.  Despite an instant attraction between the two, a large portion of the book is taken up with Emma being reluctant to pursue anything with Will.

There is very little on field action which I have to admit I was happy about because I know little to nothing about the sport.

As for Will, well despite the book giving very little away about his physical appearance, he is pretty near perfect as far as leading fictional guys go.  His determination to pursue Emma relentlessly despite her repeated refusals demonstrated how committed he is when he wants something.  As i said, there was not a lot of description about his appearance so my own imagination came into play as far as he was concerned and I'm pretty impressed with my own image of him.

Now I can't discuss this book without mentioning the sex scenes. They weren't particularly graphic and I've certainly read some pretty intense scenes in the past, but there was just something about Will and Emma together. Maybe his complete dedication to her, maybe it was the whole build up and wishing the two would just get it on. But whatever it was it made the scenes all the more HOT.

Yes there were a couple of issues with not a lot happening for portions of time and there was so much back and forth between Will and Emma that I felt dizzy at times, but quite honestly the final 30% just did it for me. The dilemma Emma had about pursuing a relationship all comes into play and makes for a pretty good first book of the series and I for one cannot wait for the next book. Not bad for someone who knows absolute zero about American Football.

When you hear that something is by a debut author, immediately (at least I do this) you wonder if you are going to get something that lives up the blurb, or if you are going to get something that needs an editor and a few re-writes. Lexington and 42nd is perfect, just as it is.

I absolutely LOVED this book. Will and Emma are engaging, and fun, and more importantly, you like them and you want them to end up together. Because you like them as much together as you do apart.

I feel like I have been put through the wringer, in the best way. Kim Carmody can write characters you like, and she can describe a scene, she can tell a story with the best of them...but most of all, she can make you FEEL like you are with the characters, like your heart is breaking with them, you understand their fears, their wants and their hopes. By the end, you are a little in love with each of the characters yourself, you can definitely see why they ended up together.

There is some push and pull as Emma, and rightly so as it turns out, is concerned about what will happen to her career if she becomes involved with Will. And, Will is the star quarterback, the number one draft pick, so, as Emma tells him, he lives in a bit of a bubble when it comes to understanding this...but he gets it by the end. The supporting characters are likable, and the story is fun. The sex is hot and you can feel their chemistry. You believe it.

I loved this book, it is one that I would read again, one that I will gladly recommend. I am looking forward to the next one!

Lexington & 42nd by Kim Carmody
4.5*

I was so excited to read this fun, lighthearted, and thoroughly enjoyable debut novel in my absolute favorite genre - Sports Romance.

Emma is on a 12 month job-exchange which sends her all the way from Sydney to New York. She fully intends to keep her head down, work hard, and do her club back home proud. She's smart, strong, and determined. Her good intentions are blown out of the water when she meets the quarterback of the New York Warriors - Will, and he is delish! Will ticks so many athlete boxes for me: he's hot, he's cocky, and he isn't accustomed to being told no! Both are very interesting characters and their journey to happiness was so much fun to read; there were moments that made me laugh, worry, and absolutely swoon. The chemistry between Will and Emma was flying off the pages and was perfect! A bit of a slow-build in comparison to other books and it suited these two to a tee.

Overall, I thought this was a fantastic read and I'm truly surprised that it's a debut novel. The characters are well-developed and easy to relate to, the writing is pretty spot-on, and I was gripped from the beginning. I notice this is the first in a series and am more than eager for the next few books. I definitely recommend Lexington & 42nd especially to lovers of sports romance.

Lexington and 42nd is an engaging contemporary romance with likeable characters and a believable plot. The heroine is a strong, independent female, and her hero is an alpha male at the height of his NFL career. It has all of the elements for the genre: the meet, the instant attraction, the slow and steady build to acting on that attraction, the inevitable break-up, and the ultimate HEA. There's nothing particularly ground-breaking here, but if you want a sexy, fun read, pick this one up.

Plot
Emma Lexington is on loan to the New York Warriors NFL team for the season as part of a program involving her organization in Australia. Will Jensen is the Warriors' star quarterback and completely off limits to Emma. And Emma is off limits to Will, which of course makes both of them irresistible to each other. There's so much room for conflict with this tale of forbidden romance and the author does a compelling job with it.

Characters
Both Emma and Will are very endearing and it's clear early on they belong together. They're both fairly well-developed, but lack extreme depth. Neither has any life-altering backstories. They're both pretty emotionally healthy and just have different priorities and communication issues they need to overcome in order to get that HEA.

What Didn't Work for Me
1. The story took a little while to develop. At 444 pages, it's on the longish side for a contemporary romance, and some of it could have been cut early on to keep the story moving at a faster pace.
2. This is just a personal thing, but Will's number is 42. Quarterbacks in the NFL are usually under number 20 with running backs and D-backs in the 40s. Now Will could have had a reason for having that number, and teams are pretty accommodating when it comes to their star players, but without an explanation on why he had that number, it bugged me throughout the book.

Top Five Things I Enjoyed About Lexington and 42nd
1. Emma's Australia-ness. After hosting two Aussie exchange students, there is just something so charming about an Aussie and it came across in Emma's personality in spades.
2. Football. I'm an 18-year season-ticket holder with the San Diego Chargers and we almost never miss a home game. I loved reading about the football side of things. Other than Will's jersey number, it came across as spot on.
3. Angsty romance. The angst didn't really kick in until near the end, but that's my favorite kind of romance and it made up for the slow start.
4. New York City. One of my favorite places to visit. Don't think I could live there, but I never get tired of visiting.
5. The ending. Nice wrap up.

Bottom Line
An engaging contemporary romance with adorable characters in a big city setting with NFL players.

Beware of Spoilers!

Star Ratings:
Heroine (Emma): 3/5
Hero (Will): 3/5
Plot: 3/5
Grovel: not great
Cheating: none
HEA: yes but not a satisfying epilogue
Triggers: none

Average score: 3/5

Best Lines: “Drooling puppies lose interest pretty quickly. Especially when they have shiny new things paraded in front of them.”

Worst Lines: “Twelve hours later, I was literally asleep on my feet, exhausted.” – really?! Literally?

Personal Review:
This was a so-so romance between a famous quarterback and an Australian (whose job title I still don’t know!).

The last 30% dragged and it was also where most of the immaturity occurred. My initial interest in Will and Emma’s reduced when Will clearly told her that his career was more important than hers. Emma is then the one who goes grovelling to Will which I disagreed with.

Random Ramblings:
“Awkward Encounters with Emma and the Quarterback” – sounds like the title of a good book

•The h was supposed to be 24 I think but the H was 30…was immature at times
•The ending felt rushed and completely ruined it for me

Overall Feeling:

Lexington and 42nd took me by surprise. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. Kim Carmody's writing style was what drew me in, and considering that I finished this in just one sitting, I think it says how much I couldn't put it down.
"Hey, don’t go all shy on me now." He squeezed my waist gently, making me look back up.

"Sorry, I kinda said you were amazing twice."

He grinned, and it was the type that did funny things to my insides. "You did, and I kinda liked it."

For the past few days, I've been in the mood for good light reads, and I was fortunate enough that this book didn't disappoint! I did have some few minor issues with this, but it wasn't all too many for me not to let it slide. Here's 4/5 stars!

So I really tried with this one and almost kept going but I have a feeling it is going to be more of the same and a disappointment in the end. And since I have read at least half of this I am going to give my thoughts.

Emma is a completely wishy washy character. I wanted to admire her for trying to focus on her job and refusing Will but she became tiresome. All I got from her was she thought Will was just too hot so she had a hard time making up her mind! *eyeroll*

I couldn’t really get on board with Will either. He is too arrogant and to be honest super annoying. It is the same old story; super-hot football player pursues new girl working for the team. I didn’t find Will’s actions sexy so every time he pursued (pressured) Emma I wanted to smack him. If I were Emma this is why I would have resisted him, but she was into him like crazy one second, and then in the next breath she was resisting again.

Bottom line the characters needed more depth for this to work for me. They played silly games with each other instead of communicating. I will say that Ms. Carmody does have potential and if she digs deeper into future characters I think she could write a strong book.

4.5 stars!

I've had this book on my wishlist for a while and I'm so glad I picked it up today! It seems all my instincts for why I'd enjoy this book were spot on. I liked the characters and the story and it read really well too.

Emma is a professional. She loves her job and can't pass up the chance to switch jobs for a year. She hasn't been in New York City for long before she catches the eyes of Will Jensen, the quarterback of the New York Warriors. Watching those two interact was so much fun. It wasn't just their first meeting which was totally adorable, but seeing how those two fought what they knew they should do with what they wanted to do.

Although I absolutely love reading books told from dual points of view, I don't think Lexington and 42nd would have been as enjoyable if I was able to have Will's point of view frequently. As it is, the one chapter told from his point of view is phenomenal and certainly clears any doubts about him I may have had.

It's hard to believe this is Kim Carmody's first book, it's so well written. I am excited to read more from her and have high expectations for her. If you're looking for a sports romance that's equal parts story and chemistry, you should definitely check out this book!

There was so much I loved about this book, I'm not sure where to start!
That Emma comes from my home town of Sydney, that Will lives in my favourite city of New York, the humor, the banter, the angst......it's all there and done brilliantly to keep you captivated and enthralled.

Emma heads over to NYC on an exchange program from her football club to the Warriors. She is there for twelve months to learn as much as she can about the team and managing players. Maybe she should have done a little research before her first day, but heck NYC! Sights to see! Nothing wrong with that right? Well it wasn't for Will, he found it all refreshing that she had no idea who he was, or much about NFL either. But dating the NFL Quarterback is off limits to the front office, so Emma has to resist all of Jensen's advances even if it's not want she wants.

This couple were so sweet, I loved the way their relationship developed over time. I loved Will's dirty mouth! Emma is a character that has compassion but also spunk! Just brilliant.

What she hasn’t prepare for though, is meeting him.

Review:

Wow I loved this story, Lots of love. A relationship that shouldn’t be. New York City on my favorite corner. Okay Lexington is Emma’s last name and 42 is Will Jensen’s number, but that is where the Chrysler Building is. My favorite building and I actually got to work in that building for a few years. So yes I had to read this book and I was not disappointed for one second. This is the debut novel of Kim Carmody. I can’t wait to read the second book in The Off Field Series.

The plot of this story is what a modern day fairy tale is made of. Girl from Australia switches jobs with a girl in NYC. Now Emma is working for New York’s hottest NFL Football team. Leaving Australia and their football team, yes soccer team for a year as an exchange employee. Emma knew that this was an opportunity of a lifetime. What she didn’t know was that she was going to fall head over heals with the star quarterback. The chemistry between Emma and Will is enough to power the lights of the stadium, but being caught with the quarterback can lead to all sorts of complications. The pacing of this story is fast and exciting. The ending, well I did say it is like a modern day fairy tale. The character development is spot on. We watch this couple build a relationship, but there is a cost to falling in love and not trusting in the person that you love.

** I was given an ARC for an honest review. **

4 stars!

Sweet, sexy, and fun! If you're up for a sport romance with a lot of mixed feelings, this one is for you!

Review to come!

*********************

I enjoy a good sports romance and Lexington and 42nd was a pretty great one! Sexy, entertaining with a lot of mix up feelings.

When an internship involving a sexy aussie woman and a famous NFL player , you know that sparks are going to fly!

Meet Emma Lexington and Will Jensen.

One year program exchange in New York with The New York Warriors was a great opportunity she won’t miss. But when she had to work with their famous player, Will, she knew that he’s off limits and he’s got a reputation as a womanizer!

As a true charming Playboy, Will was already falling for Emma without realizing. She was so different and refreshing!

The banter was great, there were some awesome characters and I was entertained.

Emma is a strong and can handle anyone. She’s invested and nailed at her job, if a certain Will Jensen couldn’t help pursuing her and pushing all the hot buttons.

I was really surprised by Will’s character. Even if the player side was more than a facade and he was acting most the time, but being with her was natural. As the face of his team, he had a reputation to hold, but was surprisingly a simple guy, and a very endearing one.

The challenge is on and between these two … It was hot from the first encounter. For a sports romance, I have to say that I was drained by all the mixed feelings there; how to went from hot to cold in more than 5 seconds and my head was spinning!

For a first novel, it was really exciting! I really enjoyed to see the background of managing a football team, especially on the PR side. It was well written and I had a great time reading it but the mixed up feelings were a little too much and even if I like foreplay, I don’t think it was really necessary.

Anyway, Will and Emma had an incredible chemistry and it was exploited in a very good way. So who is gonna be the next player of the New York Warriors to fall in love?I can’t wait to find out!

(Refreshingly romantic tale with some very steamy scenes near the end that do not hijack the storyline.)

If this NetGalley reviewer had to sum up the first 70% of this book in one song, it would definitely be “Anticipation” by Carly Simon. What a refreshing change to have such a sweet, sassy heroine keep her clothes on and her self-respect/dignity intact, while making this handsome, quarterback hero exercise patience/actually have to work at winning her over. You see, Emma Lexington was no pushover who would give into temptation at the expense of others. Trust me, she was sorely tempted by gorgeous Will Jensen. You definitely felt the attraction/chemistry between these two wanna be lovebirds. But Emma knew her stay in New York had an expiration date and any off-the-field play time with Will could result in negative fall-out/consequences for her struggling Aussie employer/fellow co-workers. Not to mention, more than likely leave her with a very broken heart. Any guesswork was laid to rest when she was told as much by the president of the team.

Will, it wasn’t hard to tell you gave up your Casanova ways the moment you laid eyes on Emma. Except for one previous drunken indiscretion that was revealed that really ticked me off, you were pretty much the perfect boyfriend. Still, it took a couple of your posse of football friends to help you and Emma reach the end zone and score romantic bliss.

What about the remaining 30%? Well, anticipation was soon replaced with angst after this couple finally became intimate. Since I’m a fan of instant-love, main couple only has eyes for each other, and angst-filled/have to fight for each other, this remaining portion packed quite an emotional punch.

In summary, thank you Ms. Carmody for rescuing romance by giving us such a delightful, entertaining read. I am definitely looking forward to Olivia getting her HEA in Book 2. Though I am really surprised it’s not about a more prominent sub-character in book 1. Here’s to hoping your writing style of witty banter, likeable characters, and romantic storylines continue.

Title: Lexington and 42nd, Series: Off Field (Book 1), Author: Kim Carmody, Pages: 444, stand-alone, HEA, no cheating.

A new swoon-worthy romance from debut author, Kim Carody! I’ve had my fair share of sports romances and when a new author comes along…it can be quite refreshing. I have a number of favorite authors in the sports genre and after reading Lexington and 42nd, Carody will be a new addition to the list. :)

Will Jensen is at the top of his game in the NFL. After catching women off guard with his good looks, charming personality, and sexy moves over the years, there is one woman who captures his attention. A woman who is quite forbidden. Will he be able to stay away and focus on his game?

Emma Lexington arrived in NYC to build a relationship between two companies. Her plan for the year is to enjoy the sights and focus on her career. When a man comes into her line of sight, a man who is quite forbidden, will she be able to stay away from his advances and save her career?

Thoughts:
PLOT LINE - There is such a great flow throughout the book. The transition from how they met and building their professional dynamic to becoming friends and having it turn into something more is so smooth. The whole time, you may be thinking: when is it going to happen?! I love how there is sort of a forbidden romance. It is acceptable in some companies as long as it doesn’t get the way of your performance. Consequences can occur when the star player gets distracted, especially by a new member on the PR team. It can be risky! Are they both willing to take the risk? If they take that risk, how will they keep it hidden?

CHEMISTRY – From the moment they met, you can tell there will be a lot of steam. With the instant attraction between the two, his constant teasing and flirty advances clashing with her efforts to avoid him, there is a magnetic pull always bringing them together. The moment when everything aligns, they can’t help but let go. After a searing first kiss, can friendship still be in the playbook? Their dynamic is so adorable. All the romantic/friendly gestures, small touches, and sweet nicknames will eventually lead to a sexy time every reader will be waiting for.

5+++ quarterbacking Stars

OMG... What did I just read? I'm so in love with this book, I really was sad when I finished it!
You wouldn't know it's the debut novel by Kim Carmody.

I literally don't have enough words to tell you how much I adored this book.
The story had it all, it was sweet and the sexual tension was at times off the charts. You just knew these two belong to each other. I was hanging on every word and read it in one sitting. You know these stories where you just can't put the book down but at the same time don't want it to end? Yeah, it's exactly this kind of book.

Okay, enough swooning on my side.

Emma got the job opportunity of a life time when her boss sends her from Sidney to New York for an job exchange with the New York Warriors.
It's all good until she meets the panty dropping Will. She's immediately smitten with the hot quarterback but can't act on it, cause she doesn't want to jeopardize her job.

Will seems to be just as smitten by Emma as she is by him. But she can't figure out if his interest is genuinely because of her or because he wants to get her between the sheets.

I could really feel with Emma, she was torn between giving in to her attraction and keeping Will at arm length. What would she do if it comes down to choose between a chance at love or saving her career?

There's only one advice I can give you at this point, PICK UP THE BOOK, like yesterday. I can't wait for the second book in this series. Thank you Kim for such an amazing read.

**ARC received from NetGalley in exchange for honest review. High 3 stars but not quite "really liked it 4 stars" worth. While there is nothing wrong with this book, there's nothing necessarily fantastic or amazing about it either to give it 4 or 5 stars. Would I re-read it over other books in my kindle? Probably not.

Both MCs are realistic, sexy, decent, have chemistry, but I wasn't invested in them like I am with 4.5/5 star MCs. As others have mentioned the conflict related to Emma's job didn't quite get me worked up like it did her. I wasn't feeling the big picture or her angst related to it. While I admired Emma her tendency to run away from Will was a tad on the annoying side.

Will was what I expect a sports romance H to be - sexy, confident, wants the h, etc. My minor fault with Will was him not thinking through who his boss was and what he'd do. He had to know better than that. On the other hand he's not a mind reader when Emma lies to him.

Overall an enjoyable read that I did enjoy but not sure if I'd re-read. I'd look out for other books by this author because I think she has potential to write stories that really hook readers in. As an Australian writer, the author needs to be careful with American idioms, etc. that she doesn't use correctly especially for an American born/raised H.
