A practical handbook on the theory and methods of keeping and breeding marine tropical fish. This updated and expanded edition describes the basic types of marine aquarium systems, with an emphasis on the traditional under gravel filter. Tank construction and selection, saltwater collection and makeup, filters and filtration, physics and chemistry, setup and maintenance, disease and treatment, foods and feeding, captive breeding Everything you need to know to set up and maintain a successful saltwater aquarium.
Good introductory guide to saltwater aquarium keeping. You can find the same info in other books like The Conscientious Marine Aquarist but the Mote book is used by a lot of public aquariums as standard reading material for aspiring aquarists. The material is organized well and is easy to understand. My only critique is that there is not a lot of information on the particulars of invertebrate care nor is there much information on water quality beyond the nitrogen cycle. But for a beginner who is trying to understand the fundamentals of salt water aquariums this book is solid.
A perfect book for any aquarist or aspiring aquarist to have in their library. This edition is a perfect guide for the hobbyist and even someone (like myself) who has this as their career. It gives a good breakdown on many different topics in an aquarium and sets you on the path to having your own successful tank and gets you asking questions about your own set up or job. Any question or problem you mau run across is most likely mentioned in this book and if not in full detail then enough to get you moving in the correct direction. 10/10 highly recommend this book....and I always do to anyone who tells me they want to have a tank.
A fantastic handbook for keeping Marine fishes and invertebrates together. This is a comprehensive look at the art and science of setting up, maintaining, and finally learning most everything you'll need to know about saltwater aquariums.
Great information that's easy to understanding and wonderful color pictures and graphs/illustrations. It's covered all the questions I've had about starting and maintaining a saltwater aquarium. I highly recommend the revised and expanded (third) edition!
