Summary:

The story is about a husband and wife Texas Jim Logan and Bryony Logan. The tale is about how they have a showdown and break relation. Get separated, the struggles faced by each during the period and again reuniting in bad circumstances.

My Take:

To start with, the story is beautifully narrated with every scene coming to life in one’s imagination. The characters of Jim and Bryony are very distinct and you can visualise them, their chemistry, their love, their fights and their passion for each other. It’s a medium paced book where each and every scene is described in detail.

All the characters are distinct. You won’t help but abhorring the Antagonists and falling in love with the protagonists of the tale. The story is fast moving and never really drags at any place. The ending is happy and satisfying giving one a feeling of completeness. All the emotions are portrayed beautifully.

I would thank my friend for recommending this book to me.

Would rate 4/5 for this beautiful love story.

Ok I have been on an oldie kick as of late and I have to say thanks to the person that recommended this on Amazon.......While this is an older story with different requirements for a solid story it was good. We had serious emotional turmoil in this book on both sides. It starts off right away with a serious loss between the main characters and one feeling responsible for it. Followed by a case of amnesia, false identity you might find it hard to think they could find their way back to each other, and by sheer accident they find each other again and it is up to Jim to make her remember everything they had and how good it can be again. I thought it was well written and a quick and easy read that you could knock out in a day easily.

I read this story years ago and it's still one of my favorites. Yes it has cowboys, amnesia, native Americans, massacres, heartache and of course sex.
Most importantly it has heart. You grow to care for these characters and years later I am still delighted that they found their happy ending.
I'd say that's the most any author or reader can hope for.

Maybe I'm too picky, but I keep coming across so many good books that I feel would have been better if certain things either happened, didn't happen, or happened differently. Such is the case with this book, though it still earns four stars.

I'm guessing there was a previous book in which Bryony and Texas Jim Logan met and went through a lot of stuff before they got married, but I was able to get the idea from what this book revealed, so I don't feel I've missed out on not reading it.

This book starts out with things going well for the couple, and then getting even better when they're expecting a baby. The only fly in the champagne is their sometimes clash of personalities, as Jim tends to be too overprotective, and Bryony feels a bit stifled and can't help rebelling. When - against Jim's wishes - she rides a horse into town to go shopping, rather than go by wagon with her brother-in-law, she gets into an accident, that causes a miscarriage. This is where I have a problem.

It's understandable that at first, Jim would be angry, and in his grief-stricken state he'd blame Bryony, thinking if she hadn't been so stubborn and rode in the wagon, it wouldn't have happened. (Accidents, of course, can happen at any time, so who knows?) It made sense for a while, but he took it way over the top, said awful things to her, like how he couldn't stand the sight of her anymore, she was selfish and cared more for having her own way than about the baby, and so on, emphasizing how horrible he thought she was. he didn't seem to realize that she was grieving too, and also blamed herself, and desperately needed his forgiveness. In one pathetic scene, she wants him to make love to her, and he turns it into a degrading experience, that it's only lust, aside from her body she means nothing to him anymore. His brother, as well as everyone else, tries to make him see he's going too far, but he won't listen. It goes on this way, leading to a ridiculous scene where he makes her think he's involved with a saloon girl, (acting more like a schoolboy than a grown man) and she rushes over to the bar, threatening to shoot the bartender if he doesn't tell her what room her husband's in. This kind of stuff I can do without.

The rest of the book goes from one adventure to another, as Bryony later spends time living with a Native tribe and gets to know and care form the people and respect their way of life. I want to commend Ms. Gregory for sparing the readers the usual rape/forced seduction by a Native brave, or having Bryony become a "squaw". There was none of that. Unfortunately, that behavior was reserved for a white man, an enemy of Jim's who takes advantage of an amnesiac Bryony by telling her that they're married, while her real husband is trying to find her.

I won't give any more details. It's a good book, but don't be surprised if at times you want to strangle Jim.

Happily married Texas Jim Logan and bryony finds their paradise shattered when bryony unexpectedly has a miscarriage which was caused entirely by her. Heartbroken and not being able to get over the loss of their child, a wide chasm opens up between bryony and Jim. No matter how hard she tries, she cannot seems to bridge the gap between them.
After a heated argument one night, bryony steps out into a raging storm where she is captured by cheyenne Indians.
Thus began a tale of struggle, hardship, obstacles which both bryony and Jim will need to overcome if they have any hope of finding their way back to each other.

This story is one wild roller coaster from one events to another. I was beginning to despair that Jim and bryony will never find each other. So many situations and events. Bryony miscarriage, her capture by Indians, her time with them, the murder of the band of Indians when they were trying to reunite bryony with Jim, her memory loss, her capture by the chester brothers when one of them took her forcibly. Its neverending. I really love though that the author did not sugar coat this story. Some really brutal events were outlined in this story. And these events were a part of reality in the old western times. A lot of authors tend to only write about the good stuffs and omit the bad.
It was well written, everything explained down to the minute details. I admit it was slow at times and dragged on unnecessarily. Also I feel some of the events were too drawn out like the situation with the Chester Brothers. Jim had so many opportunities to kill them which he didn't took. And I'm kinda bummed that swift as an elk died. He had truly loved bryony. I feel his character did not get justice. The author shouldn't have killed him. She should have given him his own hea. He deserved it.
