Sex is not ‘routine’ any more. There are sex shops decorating the high-street, free porn all over the internet and let's not even get started on the new BDSM phenomenon. So when things get a little ‘stale’ in the bedroom, what would you do? Carlie made a suggestion; a suggestion I wanted nothing to do with at first, but she was my wife and I’d have done anything to make her happy. I went along with her plan, even though I really didn’t want to. It actually worked, for a while. Until something changed. Then I wasn’t doing it for her anymore. Instead, it was all about secret liaisons, stolen moments and the thrill of getting caught. My life changed overnight and there was nothing I could do to prevent it. Lust is an unstoppable emotion when it takes hold. Rules are broken. Mistakes are made. Lives are destroyed. Be careful what you wish for, because sometimes, that wish can come true.
Zachary Black was her wish. ...Until he became mine.

I read the foreword by the author, warning readers the main character would be hard to like in the beginning of the book. My struggle was I did not only dislike him, I equally disliked his wife. Reading about their dysfunctional, unhappy relationship didn't hold much appeal.
When a third was brought in I was put off by the lack of mutual consent about this decision between the spouses. Neither could I see past the first threesome beginning with the new guy and still sex ensued. I found that particular scene repulsive rather than steamy-hot as is was clearly intended to be, so I put the book away for a while.
Not finding any interest in picking it back up, DNF@20%. Since trusted GR friends of mine much enjoyed this book, I'd say it's a case of me, not the book.
This was pretty good, an mf that turned into an mmf before becoming an mm story. It was angsty, intense and hot as fuck. Jeez, really hot.
It was let down for me by the number of spelling and grammar errors - mixed tenses, typos, missing words, this had the lot. I usually manage to ignore them but there were just too many to overlook in this one. Pity really as it really marred the read for me.
It ends on a cliffhanger of sorts, but I was satisfied with the place the characters are at so don't feel like I'm being forced to read on to get the whole story. Recommended for smut fans.
Lack of emotional and sexual tension between the protagonists. The subject matter is not for everyone, but I for one don't mind it. I'm interested in reading stories with characters who are discovering a greater love than they have already experienced. Initially I wanted to give it 2 stars, but then the prologue's theme came into focus. So down with the rating to 1 star, because of all this:
I was intrigued by the summary, but this book feel down on many levels for me.
Blake married Carlie when he was twenty five in a whirlwind of romance. Ten years later he's a workaholic and the spark is gone -- until she proposes a threesome and it goes surprisingly well.
Now, from the very second chapter there are issues in their marriage. Carlie is very image focused, wanting them to be the perfect couple. I wasn't bothered that their marriage broke apart and ended in the novel. I didn't mind that he got together with the other man.
I did mind that characters in the novel were demonized as soon as they crossed Blake and that he never really had to deal with any of his faults. (Zach gets mad about Blake waiting for Carlie to leave him, but that's about it.) Carlie becomes laughably evil instead of merely shallow and incompatible with Blake. His long-time mentor somehow becomes a blackmailing asshole between one chapter and the next.
And then his never-before-mentioned mom pops up at the end to first bless his divorce and new union, and then make him blow up because of previously unmentioned daddy trauma. It's a totally random storyline thrown in the last 10% of the book.
I could deal with it if there was still a good story about Blake discovering his bisexuality, but he's just GFY and it's okay because Zach is his soulmate.
Honestly, there's not much to the central romance aside from sex. They never even go on a date. Add in to the fact that Carlie was Zach's client and he angled for the threesome because he had a long-distance crush on her husband, and it become kind of creepy on his part.
If you like lots of drama where no one acts like a normal person, go ahead and read this book. Otherwise, skip it and pick up one of the many better M/M offerings out there.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
While this book is hot, there's way too much of the M/F relationship in it before it switches and it's just one giant drama lama of a storyline.
The idea is an intriguing one but sadly it's not really carried off properly and everything felt a little bit rushed, as if it was a case of getting to the sex without building the relationship too.
There's a fair few typos and editing mistakes too so I'm not sure if I'll pick up book two or not just yet.
Book Review - The Other Man by D Breeze - 4 Be Careful with what you wish for Stars
Before I start to review this book, I need to talk genre because this book is M/M kind of. I say kind of because it’s a little M/F, a bit M/F/M and then M/M. The reason I set this all out now, is because I know some M/M readers don’t like a F in their mix. They just don’t do it. So if you are one of those, then this book is not for you.
Now for everyone else. We set out with our married couple Blake and Carlie where the spark seems to have all but fizzled away. Blake seems to live at work and Carlie, well she just appears to be some vacant air headed shopper for all I can tell. Anyway, on one of her many whims she decides to introduce a third into their relationship. The idea horrifies Blake but he is willing to try anything to get his marriage back on track.
Enter Zach, gym owner and slut, who is more than happy to be part of this sandwich. He doesn’t do connections so free and easy sex is the thing for him. Until it’s not.
Because neither man foresaw what that initial night was going to do to their worlds, their feelings and how it was going to rip apart everything they both knew and throw it back down, with them trying to rearrange the pieces. That the parts of the menage that stuck in their minds, where the bits that didn’t involve the woman. That Zach didn’t just get up and move on to the next hole.
Because between the guys, there is this intangible thing. This feeling that grows roots and develops. And how can something like that aid what is already a crumbling marriage?
I really enjoyed this book, but I just felt a little of the character development was missing. We have a shadow of an idea of who Carlie is (although it doesn’t paint a pretty picture so at the end I cared not a jot) but I felt like we didn’t really get into who she was.. Similarly we know Zach owns a gym, and that he doesn’t do relationships, but we don’t know a lot about why he avoids them. I guess I just would have liked a bit more background to them for when you are pitching them in a battle against each other.
I really detested Carlie, I have to admit. I really tried but failed to find one redeeming quality in her that would mean anyone would want to spend time with her. And failed. No wonder Blake ran for the door as fast as he could shouting GFY at Zach as he jumped into his arms.
Finally, I really am undecided as to what to expect from book 2. Because book 1 kind of felt finished. Whilst there were a few loose ends, I like having a few of those as to decide for myself what happened when the last page closed. And I’m not sure how much more there was to say. I’m hoping to be pleasantly surprised with a continuation that adds to the initial story.
Okay, this book will not appeal to most people...and I was seriously leery of the set-up. (Damned challenges pushing my limits.)
That said, I ended up really enjoying it. I can't even point to why because it's got the selfish, slightly unhinged wife trope I hate...and that whole, slightly distasteful "be careful what you wish for" theme. And the characters really were hard to like (see author's note at the beginning of the book). Plus, the deal-breaker for many (but not me) .
Maybe I'll figure out what appeals to me after reading the next one? IDEK. This one was free...not sure if I'm invested enough to continue. Except, I kept thinking that the whole time I was reading and then I went to type this up (months later) and realized...well, hell. Yeah, I actually do want to know how that hole mess turns out.
It was 2 stars until that ending. I guess that ending sums this book up though. It was overly dramatic, juvenile, a bit homophobic, and needed some serious editing. My morbid curiosity compelled me to finish it.
Edited to add: Ugh I’m still super frustrated by how completely unlikeable one of the MCs is and how he tried to gaslight his wife. The author never acknowledged this and called the only two women in this story crazy. Does the author hate women?
Umm I'll just start and say this wasn't my favorite read. The one thing that just ruined it for me, it was in a single POV and told from a man's perspective. Often I find, books told from a male perspective can lack depth and feeling. So it was hard to connect with the characters. I didn't really like his wife. So that was issue number 2. I also felt her demands were ridiculous and he was fool to put up with her.
So I am giving this a 2.7 rating so I rounded up to a 3.
4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this one and the sex was hot. The last scene in the book took this from a 5 to a 4.5 for me. Just seemed a bit too much and leaves me questioning whether or not I want to read book 2. Will it just be really self loathing and depressing?
ALERT: IF CHEATING IS A DEAL BREAKER FOR YOU, DO NOT READ THIS BOOK. If you think you can get passed it than definitely do. I usually do not read books with cheating but a friend recommend this book and I'm glad I read it. There is a marraige and it's falling apart, and the wife thinks having a threesome will spice things up. Big mistake. She basically introduces her husband to his soul mate who happens to be another man. What follows is a torrid affair that tears apart the lives of all involved. Blake loves his wife almost to a fault and he's willing to do anything to make her happy even a threesome that he is adamantly against. Their life has taken a turn for the worse, he neglects her for work, she is self centered and only cares about herself and how other people see her. She doesn't really love Blake anymore but she wants to keep her cookie cutter life. Something happens during the threesome and Blake finds himself drawn to the man she has invited home, Zach. When that doesn't solve everything right away she invites Zach again and it becomes clear to Blake that everything he thought about who he was has changed. He seeks out Zach the 3rd time and thus begins the affair. Things at home spiral out of control. The desire to make things work is fleeting fast and when a fire breaks out at Zach's business Blake, a firefighter, rushes to the fire to save the person he is now considering as his. Zach's not there but Blake gets hurt and the one person who should be by his side helping him recover, his wife, isn't. It's Zach who sits with him at the hospital everyday. Brings him food, clothing, and entertainment, causing both men to fall deeper in love with each other. The more Blake fights it the deeper he falls and the word divorce comes up and his wife loses her shit. She will not accept it and says they just need time. He in turn asks Zach for time, leaves his wife, takes leave from his job, and goes to a remote cabin away from everything and everyone. There he realizes his marraige is over and at 35 he is going to have to start over with a man he is deeply in love with. That's when the shit really hits the fan and the book ends in the mother of all cliffhangers. Honestly I'm shocked I liked this book so much, it had themes I hate and there are parts of the book where I wanted more detail and areas where i thought the dialogue lacked but it got to me and I can't wait for part 2.
This is the first book I have read by D Breeze, but I can guarantee it won't be the last - partly because there's another book after it, which I am downloading the second I finish my review - but also because it has opened my eyes to a very talented author. This book was like an addiction. It hooked me, crawled under my skin, then worked its way into my heart. I picked this book up this morning because I've been in a bit of a reading funk and I needed something to jolt me out of it. Boy did it do that, with bells on! I finished reading this afternoon after losing a massive chunk of time, lost to the entrancing words on the pages. I have to say, I don't know whether it was the characters or the storyline that drew me in most. A lot of books I read, it's one or the other, but with The Other Man, it was...both. Carlie? I hated her with an intense passion. A woman as vapid, self-absorbed and quite honestly mentally draining as her, pfft! don't even get me started on how many ways I hate her. How can a fictional character make me hate them so vehemently? Blake? Well, he's...*searches for the right word*... I get that he's in a situation he'd rather not be in. I get that he has feelings he doesn't know how to explore. He's hard to get a read on at first glimpse. But after you get a little more insight, you can't help but love him. Zach? There are no words for how awesome he is. The two of them together have the power to be an incredible couple. I have a feeling they might have a lot in store for them to get over, but they deserve true happiness.
From the moment I picked this book up to the moment I put it down, I can honestly say there was nothing I didn't enjoy. I have loved getting to know Blake and I hope in book 2 we find out more about Zach. He was a standout character for me.
Going in to this book, I wanted something to grab my attention and D Breeze did not disappoint. The story ignited a fiery feeling in my veins and the lust-laced words could very well be a woman's undoing. I didn't expect to finish the book in one sitting, but before you knew it, the words The End, were there on the page. It's left me feeling bereft. I need to start reading The Only Man right NOW! I am so ready for more from these characters and from this author. The way Dannii articulates things...It was a far hotter read than 50 Shades. I would rate it 10 stars if I could.
ok this book was totally not what i expected, a first or me by D Breee and it sure will not be my last at first i thought i wasnt really clicking with the story but then something clicked and dragged me into it, might have been the HOT sex :) i prefared the M/M sex sceanes in this book than the ones with his wife i got to be honest and carlie was a bit of a b**ch anyhow so its all good, but holy cliffhanger !!! loved this one and i look forward to more from this author Would Blake Be My Book Boyfriend ? He'll yes and ill have zach too they are Mine #claimed
What an intense addictive bloody hot read !!!! A friend of mine had read this a few months ago and had encouraged me to read it at every possible turn so I eventually agreed to read it - lesson learnt always listen to recommendations from your friends ! I loved this book I'm a big fan of M/M reads and this one ranks way up there in my opinion it's so additive I couldn't put it down ! This book does contain cheating but it didn't put me off the story - you can't help who or when you fall in love with. Highly recommend book !!!
This book started off pretty good and I enjoyed the flow. Then about 2/3rds the way through the editing took a drastic downturn and it really made the book difficult to read...
Merged review:
Could've been better
Needs serious editing. I don't mind books with cheaters, so that's not my problem with this book. It felt both slow and rushed simultaneously. And, it got a bit weird/unbelievable at the end...
This was book 1 in "The Other Man"series. Blake and Carlie have been married for 10 years and things have gotten stale. Carlie tells him that she wants to have a threesome. I didn't like Carlie she was a selfish self centered b*tch. When Zach Black joins the party it was hot and after Blake gets over his anger things heat up. Things get complicated when Blake and Zach start having feelings for each other. This book was long at times and the fact that Blake cheated on his wife. When Blake is hurt in a fire at Zach's gym they get closer with Zach visiting Blake everyday while he was in the hospital. Carlie begins acting crazy so Blake leaves her but she refuses to give up. This was a good read this book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series because this book left off on a cliffhanger.
I was lured into reading D. Breeze's "The Other Man" PT 1 because of the cuckold connection. This ended abruptly and was replaced with effete drama and unbelievable dialog between Blake and Zach. Discussing their 'relationship' with much angst and foreboding. Her characters are all emotionally enmeshed with each other in a very unrealistic way. Men simply do not talk this way. Nor do they have sex this way. And they certainly don't pontificate about life and love, in the way Ms. Breeze would have us believe. The characters were shallow and unlikable, and the book's only redeeming feature was the sexy cuckold scenario in the very beginning. Very disappointing.
It started off really, really good. But the editing was atrocious and only got worse, the plot was very jumpy, and most of the characters are completely one dimensional. I liked the naughty bits but there was way too much drama to really enjoy the story. My favorite part was including a pan character. But I really don't love the "gay just for you" trope, and that's what this book was about. :/ just an all out ehhhh. Not sure if the sequel is worth the $3 just to see the resolving of the completely unnecessary and out of the blue cliffhanger at the end, either.
CLIFFY ALERT- Just so everyone is aware, this book ends in a pretty dramatic cliffhanger. So be prepared for that going in. I was not, since the book doesn't indicate one way or the other. Guess, I'll have to wait to see where more of this story goes in March.
The story itself was quite good. The writing executed well. I loved the Gay for you aspect of it. It was a true gay for you book. Although there were a little too much m/f sex for my liking, when I went into this thinking it was more m/m. But that in no way deters the excellent story that is here. The attraction was palpable. The sex hot. The break down of marriage was very well done. It didn't make me feel sorry for the wife at all. She was more of an annoyance than anything else. I worry about that sometimes when I read books like this. Truly, it was a fun read. It kept me interested from start to finish, filled with one dramatic plateau to the next. So much so I barely had time to catch my breath. It was sort of intense at times.
The only things that I'd hoped for a little more of was a back story to the other main male character. He wasn't rounded out. I needed to know more about him. The focus of this story is more about the gay for you part and a failing marriage.
The editing with grammar was done well. The proofing in terms of punctuation and transition needed more work. Too many '!' exclamation points in places that seemed strange, as well as misplaced capitalization and commas at the end of dialogue. But I think most people could read it without fault. I just know my eye picks up on things a little too keenly sometimes.
The cover is nice. The blurb intriguing. As a whole it was a solid 4 star read, which I was say is heavily aimed at the contemporary erotic romance genre with an emphasis in bisexual/ M/M sub-genre. It has lots of naughty parts that are fleshed out about 70% of the time. Definitely gets your blood pumping.
I received an advanced copy of this from the author for an honest review. I haven't read very many m/m books so I wasn't sure what to expect, this was also the first book I have read from D Breeze.
I struggled to get into this book the first time I picked it up, I had been in a mood and I just couldn't connect with it so I decided to leave it down and come back to it again after my mood changed. I'm so glad I picked this book back up, once I really got started I was hooked right until the very last page.
This book wouldn't normally be something I would pick up, like I said above I haven't read many m/m books but I detest cheating so I normally steer clear of books containing it. Needless to say there was something that intrigued me about this book when I read the synopsis and I wanted to give it a shot.
I read in the author's note in beginning of this book that Blake may make us angry and while he made me a little cross at times I have to admit I loved him anyway. He was so tormented over his actions and also his feelings that I feel there was no other way for me to feel about him. My heart broke for the conflict he felt.
Carly was a super b!tch, I'm sorry I don't know if I'm the only one who feels that way it I hated her from the beginning. She was so materialistic and self-centred I just couldn't find it in me to feel bad for her.
Zach stole my heart also, it was split evenly between the two men that I couldn't say which one owned it more. I felt so bad for him at times in this story but I admired his strength and his acceptance of things. He was an amazing hero in my opinion.
D. Breeze brought this book to life for me, I was enthralled in the story and I have to admit I thought my phone was going to spontaneously combust at times with some of the smoking hot sex scenes she wrote.
This book is incredible HOT! The blurb made me think that this would be a m/f/m sort of story and in the end it wasn't... I got a little disappointed with that, but hey, that's all on me!
This story reflects exactly how some couples feel during their marriage. The routine can destroy it and the love and passion can die. Is true, we all know it. So the suggestion that Carlie brought to Blake could work... spicy, naughty, hot but dangerous and she didn't think straight because everything went the wrong way. Soulmates, that's all this is about. I believe it too. I truly believe that there's somebody out there perfect for each one of us. No matter what the gender is... So yes, this is a story about how a straight man starts loving another man. Pure and simple.
Told in a male POV, with a very specific way inside a man head, this book is enthralling and once you start it you wont put it down until the last page and crave for more.
Great plot, just not properly executed. GFY m/m romances are some of my favorites, and even better if the one of the heroes is married to a woman! I love that type of angst.
Some things that could have been better:
Less drama that was put in just for the sake of having drama.
Less insta-love. The connection between Blake and Zach was EXTREMELY underdeveloped. I got the lust, but the whole soulmates thing was really premature. I just didn't feel it.
I also didn't buy that Blake and Carlie were miserable. Their relationship seemed almost normal for a couple that have been married for years. The threesome came out of left field, really.
And finally, the ending was atrocious. I was left scratching my head, wondering why on earth the author ended it like that. Just for the sake of continuing this story as a series?? It didn't work. Felt abrupt and weird.
Overall, I was interested enough to finish it, but it just wasn't executed properly.
I'm not sure how to describe just how amazing this read was without giving away much of the story line, but I'll give it a go.
D Breeze absolutely nailed it with this book, the emotion, the angst and OMG the heat! You feel every last word in this book. I've read a lot of love triangle books but none of them were quite like this. You can't help but feel for Blake, hate Carlie and fall in love with Zach.
I read this in one sitting and couldn't put it down... and then got hit with that ending! I can't wait for book 2.
3.5 stars! I liked the book but I can't give it 4 stars because it needed better editing plus the horrible Spanish. It was literally translated and it was cringe worthy.
I also didn't like that our hero was married. I get that he didn't cheat at first since it was the wife's idea, but in the end he almost turned into an affair before he finally got divorced and realized his marriage wasn't healthy either. It felt uncomfortable. Also, he was kinda of an asshole at times.
I'll read the second book. Hopefully it will turn out better than this one.
WOW ! This was such an amazing story, telling the tale of Blake, Carlie & Zach. About how, after years of marriage, Carlie thinks that bringing a third into the bedroom will help to cover the cracks of hers and Blake's marriage........In a way it does cover the cracks,,,,,Just not in the way she hoped. This was such a brilliantly written story and oh so hot too. I loved the fact that Blake has to fight and figure things out about himself, and in doing so try not to hurt those closest to him. Fantastic !!
