We love Gerda Miller's illustrations, this book has just what she is great at, animals and nature. The story is a simple one, it is snowing and the animals are tucked inside their very appealing little hollowed out tree style houses. When rabbit finds two carrots she takes one round for her horse friend. Horse has just found a turnip in the snow so takes the carrot round to sheep's house who has just unearthed a tasty red cabbage. These kind animals are continually touched by the giving of the gift and moved to give one themselves, and yes we guessed too, the carrot ends up back at rabbits house, probably covered in bite marks and various animals lick but the kind thoughts were there. Beautiful nature scenes with the cute addition of animals in little scarves and hats. Highly recommended.
