It's a technical guide and test prep book. It's great for its purpose. Good examples, thorough, detailed. It's written by the company that administers the test so it will definitely prepare you.

The test was fairly pedantic but doable. Guide + experience should be sufficient.

Passed the certification exam today. Although this book may be a good starting point, it is nowhere near comprehensive and is really lacking in practice questions that reflect how painstakingly detailed the real exam questions are. Also, much of the topics covered in the book are already covered in the free SAS Programming1 e-Learning course found on the official SAS website. My advice is to begin there.

To supplement your studies, I’d recommend downloading the free app “BaseSASPractice” (found in the App Store and Google Store) for a great collection of ~300 practice questions. I used these and the SAS Content Guide to pinpoint gaps in my knowledge. Then I googled the topics I needed to learn/brush up on to find the SAS Language Reference’s page about them.

The app’s practice questions and the notes I took while going through the online SAS tutorial were probably the main reasons I passed the certification. This book unfortunately doesn’t do what it says it does—I think it’s more of a memory refresher than a one-stop study guide.

Good luck!
