Messina Brothers #1

Baby on the Billionaire's Doorstep

WHOSE BABY?

Jet-setting bachelor Dex Messina thought he knew everything about women...until he met the tiny infant girl abandoned on his doorstep. One thing Dex was sure of: the gorgeous redhead who stormed back into his life, insisting she'd made a mistake, was hiding something. And uncovering her secret would be his pleasure.

To gain custody of her beloved niece, Lucy Alwin would do anything--even pose as the woman with whom Dex had shared one intimate night. But if boldly lying to the powerful billionaire was difficult, resisting their burning desire could prove impossible.

I write the kinds of books I want to read. Fast-paced books with lots of world-building, snarky heroines, and swoony heroes. I love story, pop culture, gossip, and baked goods. I’m a modern-day hippy and certified LEGO nerd.

I live in the Austin, Texas hill country, with my geeky husband and two extremely geeky kids. We have dogs, chickens, cats, and more LEGOs than should be allowed by law. Oh, and I stress bake. So if my characters talk about food a lot, that’s why.

The heroine Lucy of Baby on the Billionaire’s Doorstep did some very questionable things IMO, to keep her niece. Her irresponsible sister left her on the doorstep of her father and Lucy wants her and she doesn't have a very good opinion about the father, after all he is a rich playboy.

When Dex sees a baby on his doorstep he is shocked and doesn't know if he or his brother Derek is the father, then Lucy shows up on his door saying he's the father. After a rocky start he takes to the baby.

My problem was Lucy, she lied to him fine, then how could she in all honesty sleep with him and then expect him to forgive?I never really felt any romance or love between these two and is it turns out there is a sequel with the other brother Derek, who is the actual father.

Both the books in the Messina Brothers Series had me in splits, especially the antics of both the brothers concerning Isabella.

True to its title, I think I should feel concerned about a baby being found abandoned on somebody's doorstep (even if that somebody is a billionaire), but I can't stop laughing at the brothers' predicament. A note tucked to the baby is addressed to D, and out of the two brothers, the older one is Derek, the younger one Dex(ter). Whose baby is it, then?

Lucy Alwin's twin sister, Jewel/Julie had a baby girl, Isabella, after one night stand with the brothers (on separate nights, of course, duh-uh, this is HP, come on). The wayward Jewel, dumped the baby on the good sister, Lucy, from Day One of her birth. Lucy loves her niece, Izzie, as if she is her own, and would do anything for her, even lie to the baby's father, and take her sister's place, to keep Izzie with herself. I loved Lucy, and Dex's exchanges, they were hilarious.

It is charming to read the way Dex tries to bond with Izzie. He thinks she is after his money (don't they all), whereas she leads a comfortable life, working as an actuary.

Twlight surely has addled my brains, coz while reading this, before Dex started calling her Izzie, I nicknamed her Bella. Hee, Hee.

I love twin stories, and this one, initially, brought home my first M&B read, Bought for the Marriage Bed by Melanie Milburne, which had the same premise.

One cannot warm up to Dex easily, as he is an emotionless being, while Lucy's character is something! And baby Izzie is too cute for her own good, especially loved the author's description of her features when someone's talking to her.

Aargh, I so wish It kind of spoiled the ending for me. Humph, but the epilogue salvaged it.

Did not like it, I despise that hero had sex with heroines sister (I get that he met sister first and was just a hookup but it disgusts me). The story felt like a mess and didn't feel a real connection. It was nice that baby turned out to not be his but his brothers (Poor Reina), I would have rather baby been a random other guys baby she would still be heroines niece. P.

The book opens with a baby showing up on the billionaire's doorstep. Thing is, there's two of 'em--billionaires. They're brothers, and it's not real clear Which brother the baby belongs to. So the brother who gets there second slips away, leaving the baby with the brother who shows up first--the hero. Heroine is the baby's aunt. Her twin sister is this wild-child maniac who seemed to be attaching to the baby--and then she runs off and does This crazy thing. Heroine doesn't get there in time to grab the baby back--and she pretends to be her sister and the baby's mother in hopes of convincing the hero that she just had a momentary mental aberration and really wants the baby back. Except the hero isn't about to turn a helpless child over to an irresponsible mother--even if he didn't want to be a parent in the first place--and if she wants the kid, she's going to have to move in with him till they get everything straightened out. Wild as the plot premise sounds, this is actually an interesting, enjoyable read

I did not like the character of Dex as much as I had his twin Derek in "Baby Benefits," but I wanted to read the truth of the baby's parents. Also, Lucy's deceptions soon become boring.

D1866 Apr08. Dex Messina arrives home to find an infant abandoned on his doorstep. Lucy Alwin pushes her way into his life to gain costly of her niece. Her sister has disappeared, Lucy is pretending to be her. No surprise when her plan backfires and Derek, Dex's twin, is named Isabella's father.

As I had already read Derek Messina's story in "Baby Benefits", it was great finally to learn more of Dex and Lucy.
