Captivated by Leo and his dark desires, Sloane wonders if her fascination with his dominance goes deeper than fantasy. Has she been seeking punishment to atone for the sins of her past all along? Though Leo’s brutal lust is what first enthralls her, the bonds of trust they form could have the power to heal her.

Writing: Needs an editor. A couple of examples
"I turned into the world's biggest bitch, and Bryon made no apologizes for his feelings about my relationship with Warren."

"My feet thrashed, not to get away from him or to make him stop, but to rub my myself against his lap"

"'She, um,' he voice stumbled and he roughed up his chestnut hair, averting his gaze."

"My forehead flexed down and I pulled a sliver of my bottom lip into my mouth."
How do you flex your forehead down? I can move my eyebrows, but not sure about flexing my forehead.

Characters: Sloane and Leo are the MCs. Sloane is pretty interesting. Leo seems boring without much of a backstory. There is an important element missing from their relationship. I couldn’t connect with them and Leo did some messed up stuff that was overlooked.

The Coffee Guy, Ethan, seemed more interesting to me than Leo. It's bad when you are hoping that the heroine falls for someone else. I was also more interested in Wendy and Oliver's relationship. Their dynamic appeared to have a good story to tell.

Storyline: I kept thinking while reading this novel...

This relationship moved extremely too fast. Then I was aggravated by how they were portrayed to know each other forever, but they just met. For instance –

"He was always doing that, mixing something puzzling and overly familiar in..." You just met him a few days ago. How can you appropriately say he is always doing anything?

Then in the next paragraph Leo says to Sloane "There's so much I don't know about you." Uh DUH! You just met her!

The story was also very predictable. I figured out the suspense very early.

Intimacy Scenes: BDSM. The cover was misleading. The picture shows her cuffed to him and he's holding her sweetly. That is not what you get in this book. She was never cuffed to him. He never took her sweetly. I didn’t feel the passion. Disappointing...

Overall: The story ended with a cliffhanger. I’m semi-interested to know if things get reconciled or if she ends up with Ethan. My vote is for Ethan, but I seriously doubt that will happen. I also don't want to read the entire next book to find out. I’m not that invested and don’t think this is the story for me.

Bindings by Kate Roth
Erotic BDSM Romance. Sequel expected this spring.
I had Bindings by Kate Roth sitting on my Kindle. Because she will be at Wicked Book Weekend in April, I wanted to read one of her books, but I had found out it did not stand alone, and put it aside to get closer to the release of the next. Then I saw it in my library, completely forgot why I put it aside and began to read. Bindings reminded me why I really love a light BDSM book.

It's been a while since I read a BDSM book. I didn't realize how much I miss the elicit excitement I feel when I read one, but honestly it's the first book I have read in months that got me going...those leather gloves. Yum.

Sloan just got out of a terrible relationship. Heart broken, she came to the small town of Salem to get away from her ex. To try to heal herself she decided to try to write a book, and spent her days a a local bookstore She became friendly with the owner, Oliver, and often helped in the store.

Then she met Oliver's brother, Leo, and everything changed.
"Turn around and put your forearms flat on the table."

As soon as the words were spoken, something clicked in Sloan. This is just what she needed. Leo was an experienced Dom and Sloan was a submissive just discovering what she needed. But Bindings was so much more than a sexy BDSM book. They each have plenty of issues, and their relationship helps them both heal.
“You've disappointed me, Sloane” Leo whispered.
“I'm sorry,” I murmured. The sound of something slicing through the air rang out quickly and then I simultaneously heard and felt a thick crack as his black leather clad palm spanked my ass.

The two had such chemistry! You know that they should be together. The attraction is palpable.
"Did he know how badly I wanted to move toward him? He was a magnet and I was iron, desperate to bond to him yet weighted down by my own composition."

I love the way the psychology behind the BDSM dynamic was brought into the story
“It’s perfectly normal to feel like you’re weird or sick, but you need to understand that you aren’t. Your tastes don’t have to define you any more than your hairstyle does, or what kind of car you drive, or your favorite pizza topping. It’s a preference. It suits you and that’s all that matters.”

As the relationship grew, they opened up to each other and fit so well.
"Together we are a pair of dice, both of us landing on different sides, tipping over one hard edge after the other to reveal new facets of ourselves. And yet, we were always adding up to something bigger."

But then Leo began to change...to pull away. Why? What is going on? Well I am not going to tell you, but I can tell you that it is not resolved in this book. When I got to the end, I remembered why I put it aside and didn't read it right a way. A fucking cliffy! Grrrrr. I need the next!

Bindings by Kate Roth quote
Likes:

•Those leather gloves. Yum. I will never look at them the same again.
•The awareness the two had of each other at all times. Like they were magnetized.
•Very hot sex with kink, but never too much.
•I liked the side characters, like her gay best friend, his brother and more.

Dislikes:

•Cliffhanger.

The Down & Dirty:
Bindings was a fresh take on the BDSM novel. It's beginning BDSM, but still totally hot. It goes through the psychology of BDSM and why some want it. The attraction between the hero and heroine was totally palpable and Leo was the perfect blend of sweet, sexy and dominant. I do wish I waited to read it until the next is out because I really think there is just too much I will need to remember before I read the next, and I rarely have time for re-reads. But if you have good retention I highly recommend Bindings. It's a fresh new take on BDSM and I for one look forward to more.

Bindings by Kate Roth

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Ok so to start this review I gotta say I don’t know if I wanna cry or throat punch someone for the hurt that my heart is feeling right now. My tummy is upset and I am just not in a good emotional place!! Thanks KATE!!!! This book just destroyed me. I gotta be honest I figured this book was just gonna be all sexy time…hello the title and the content…don’t judge me :) But what I didn’t expect to see was two flawed people coming together to make their imperfections compliment the other. Him the Sadist and her the Masochist. Him the seasoned Dom and her the novice submissive.

I never in a million years expected to fall for a sadist let alone cheer him on and want him to have the love he so desired. But Leo got to me. Like for real, he owns a part of my freaking black soul!!! He is such a sweet romantic that any reader can’t help but fall for. He is attracted to Sloane from the start. He sees her submission and craves it. Sloane is a hot mess. Her ex left her with so many insecurities and self-doubts that when she meets Leo she is all for some “ fun” but not realizing how he is able to get her to open up and release her demons. He sees her walls and is all in for breaking them down and getting to know the woman before he gets to meet the submissive. See why I fell in love with him…..*swoon*

As the story goes alone we see the couple growing and helping the other with their issues….but then a darkness sets in and like Sloane I am freaking out. Why is Leo pulling away? What is happening? How can we reconnect with him? I mean ladies, my heart hurt not having him “with” us 110%.....when the bomb drops *breath in and out* I. Was. Devastated. I mean…WHAT!! How could this happen? What do we do? How can we heal? As I read and it ended with a CLIFFHANGER…yeah I was pretty sure it is a good thing I don’t live near Kate or I might have driven to her house and stolen her laptop to see what is up in book 2….Like I am CRAZY obsessed with these people and this storyline……..I need my Leo and Sloane to be happy and not destroyed by secrets and darkness!!!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The synopsis is what drew me in. I knew I would enjoy the story, but not like this. Kate executes a passionate, raw, and intriguing story about loving again despite the circumstances. Being accepted as you are is the greatest love of all.

Sloane is determined to live a new and happier life after her previous relationship that caused her nothing but pain. Her life is shrouded in nightmares and her only escape is when she is awake. But even then she feels haunted by her past. She decides to write a novel. Through this, she befriends an owner of a bookstore. Ultimately, she meets his brother, Leo Calloway. She is drawn to him. A few words have her craving him. Leo sees something in her eyes. Something that he knows that she wants to belong to him.

I don’t want to give too much away, but Leo and Sloane fall into a dom and sub relationship. Their relationship is not a conventional one. It is so much more than you could ever know. You will fall for these two. Even root for them. But, there are demons that these two beautifully flawed people face. Secrets. And as they go deeper, their walls slowly come down. Until something threatens their foundation. A darkness that you don’t see coming. The writing was captivating and I found it hard to put down. The chemistry between Sloane and Leo is undeniable. I found myself easily enthralled by their developing relationship. I fell with them. Learned with them. Loved with them.

Bindings was an intense, but well written story. I didn’t expect it to get as deep as it did, and that kept me turning the pages. Leo is not just any kind of Dom. He finds a way to capture your heart and never let it go. The author expertly balances the BDSM and erotica aspect of the story with a well developed plot. That ending! Although I am not one for cliffhangers, I think the wait will be worth it. There is so much that unravels in their story. As the layers are peeled back, the reader is immersed in the lives of two characters that have so much to discover about themselves. Their story is far from over and I am excited for what’s to come.

Spankings in a bookstore #ohmy

Spankings in a bookstore #ohmy
I quickly became enthralled in the dance between Leo and Sloane.
I enjoyed the insights into the lifestyle of S&M.. but especially watching as Sloane discovered things about her self as though she were a blossoming flower.
There connection was immediate and yet quite unexpected at the same time. The liberation of just being in the moment had me turning the pages as fast as I could to determine where all this would lead.
It was heartbreaking to witness Sloane and all that she had to endure and face as she dealt with her past.
I was anticipating the ending.. and wasn't surprised at the first revelation But this ending is not AT ALL what I was expecting.. It was so much more and yet I'm left wondering where all this will lead. It was almost like the ending had two facets to it, one you expected and one you perhaps didn't seem coming at all.
I can't wait to read more about Leo and Sloane!

Bindings written by Kate Roth is an intense book about a BDSM relationship. It is definitely recommended for an adult audience seeing as there are strong sexually graphic scenes and explicit language. It has been a long time since I read a book that put me on a complete emotional roller coaster ride. I loved it!

It is a story about a girl named Sloane trying to exorcise her guilt over a past relationship with a married man. Though we never meet him, he is an integral part of the story. The person that Sloane is, is because of him. He crushed her self-esteem and broke her. Sloane is trying to heal and trust herself again.

It is at this moment that Leo Calloway enters her life. With his penetrating blue eyes and smoky voice, he takes her breath away. Leaving her with visions of forbidden fantasies. Leo initiates her into the world of BDSM. Though hesitant, for the first time in months, she feels alive.

“ You've disappointed me, Sloane” Leo whispered.
“ I'm sorry,” I murmured. The sound of something slicing through the air rang out quickly and then I simultaneously heard and felt a thick crack as his black leather clad palm spanked my ass.

Leo, though being a dominant, is still a man. He is incapable of opening up emotionally to her, thus confusing her all the more. In the bedroom, roles are clearly defined. She is falling in love with him and doesn’t know where she stands.

I think as women, we can relate to Sloane. At some point in time we have felt like her or been with someone who couldn’t open up. This empathy connects us to her and has us cheering for Sloane, wanting her to succeed. Kate Roth writes the book in the first person thus allowing us to feel Sloane's every emotion.

It is a love story yet it is about finding and accepting yourself as well. This book left me breathless and on the edge of my seat waiting for book two.

Bindings by Kate Roth kept me completely intrigued from the first word, to the last.

Sloane is in a new town after escaping a painful relationship. It wasn’t abusive but it wasn’t exactly healthy, either. Moving from Blacksburg to Salem has ensured that she will not be coaxed into going back to her ex. Immediately, we see that while Sloane is strong she’s also extremely flawed. Often, she can’t sleep due to the nightmares that plague her. To take up her time and in an attempt to move on, she starts writing a novel, which leads her to daily trips to Calloway Books, where she meets Oliver and his brother, Leo.

Straight away, I knew that Leo was hiding something. It wasn’t what I thought it was. I figured he was married, to be honest. Leo and Sloane begin a relationship based on D/s and as she begins to submit to him, she finds that she has always been stronger than she thought. Leo guides her through this new type of relationship and they fall in love. But…his secret comes out and it’s a big one. Bindings ends on a cliffhanger.

I am not a fan of insta-love or lust but this one worked for me. Probably because the scenes weren’t necessarily just sex but were all about physical attraction and the act of a submissive giving herself over to a Dominant. Bindings was intense, subtle, and extremely well-done. Leo and Sloane are complex, well developed characters and that makes all the difference in the world. I can’t wait to finish their story.

I'm a slacker (and Monday's are rough here at my house.... excuses, excuses, I know) please don't hate me Kate Roth : Author!!
I am ashamed to say that Bindings was the very first book of Kate's that I read and I'm actually not sorry to say that. I'm glad that I hasn't read any of her other books because now I have the chance to binge read all of them!
I loved this book.. despite the fact that it is part one of two (part two due out end of April/early May).. I have had a secret love (ok now it's not secret anymore) for FSOG since I read all of the books and was hoping that this would have a similar feel. Now saying that I'm actually glad that Bindings is not like FSOG at all!
Bindings is about the non-traditional Dom, he's a sexy bookworm and his newly found Sub (who really doesn't know she's a Sub until she learns the ways). Leo begins to teach Sloane about the world of BSDM and all the different ways people can enjoy that life style.
The chemistry that Leo and Sloane have is captivating and by the end of the book you are wanting their non-traditional love story to work out.. so we can only hope that Kate delivers a HEA in the next book! Then just as the book really starts to get good ......... it ends!!!!!
I really think Kate is trying to kill me with this cliffhanger at the end of the book!! But like I said despite the cliffy I loved it and can't wait to get my hands on more of Leo and Sloane!
5 Stars Kate!! And Now I'm off to read more of Kate's work!

I honestly have to give this 5 stars. How does one give her soul to submit to someone who is dominant after being hurt before by another dominant? How do you go about rebuilding your life only to have the rug pulled out from under you and have to face the hurt all over again? Can you get past the fact that he figured it out days before you but didn't know how to tell you? While I say I was an emotional rollercoaster I loved that rollercoaster and often imagined myself as Sloane. I will not and cannot say that this is a happily ever ending because it's not....because the story is not over...I can't wait to read more and find out more ....

Holy mother of all things perfect!
I'm not sure how to deal with this one. My heart hurts and my eyes are all puffy and all I want to do is go stalk Kate and beg for more!

Sloane is strong, witty and yes, bratty. She knows in her heart what she needs and wants, and she knows that is Leo.
Leo . . . . sweet, Dominant, caring Leo. This man has you kneeling and handing over your heart before you even realize whats happening and let me tell you right now, grab some tissues, chocolate and a snuggle buddy for this one. You're going to need it.

Sloane moves to a small town looking for a fresh start after being dicked about for the last 3 years by a married man who never had any intention on leaving his wife for her dispute all his bullshit promises. She finds her safe haven in a book store. Calloway books is where she goes almost daily to write her novel. The one she has been writing to help regain some control in her life.

When Sloane walked into Calloway's like every other day she never expected Leo. Part owner of the book store is all Dominant and is instantly drawn to the submissive in her. Only Sloane doesn't know that's what she is.
"I'm sure there's a suitable punishment for you, Sloane."

And with that one word, Punishment, Sloane's eyes are opened up to a whole new world. One she assumes is just some kinky fun.
But Leo wants more than just some fun. He wants to Know her, wants to make her his number #1 while bringing down her walls that she has erected.

As these two grow Sloane's realization of her love for Leo sets her free of her insecurities and nightmares left behind from her ex. But darkness isn't ready to her go just yet and rears its ugly head leaving Leo pulling back with a major secret that can tear their world apart!

And that left me screaming at the kindle, then insanely begging it to fix my heart like a crazy person!

Be prepared to be completely wrecked. Bindings leaves you a crying mess with a shattered heart. And that's not just for Sloane. I am so invested in these two that I just *Need to know what happens next after that huge cliffhanger.

It's no secret that I love my Doms, especially Sadistic Doms. But after being in the lifestyle for over 10 years its a real pain in the ass to read some of these books. Either they are assholes and abusers dressed up with the Dom/Domme title and a weak woman who is more a doormat then anything. Or its just a bunch of kinky sex, nothing more. That is Not the case with this one.

Move over Sloane, there is room for both of us in Leo's heart . . . . and bed wink emoticon

#UglyCryAhead #HurtingHeart #SoInLove #LeoIsMine

"Don't hold back. Don't worry about the cracks...don't even worry about breaking again - you know where the glue is."

This really spoke to me from the book. This is such a powerful line written in this book. Not just for Sloane, but for Leo as well. Sloane is broken from a previous relationship. She is trying to start her life over and rebuild herself, until she meets Leo Calloway. Leo has demons to slay as well. Can he open his heart and allow a sub to love him? The encouragement to pick yourself up and don't be afraid to try again was touching from Sloane's friend Bryon.

Leo: "There's a lot I need to learn. I'm afraid I don't know how to treat you anymore...I've never loved a sub before."

Even though the story is more about Sloane and her journey of healing, Leo has a dark side waiting to come out. A dark story where bits and pieces are sprinkled throughout the main story. Enough sprinkles to make you really wonder about Leo and how he got to this point.

And just when you think Sloane has gotten it all together, found her white knight and is sailing off into the sunset (okay I am exaggerating) because she is really, really trying to put one foot forward and move ahead. She has learned some very interesting things about herself, how to heal and how to let the walls fall down around her heart, then BAM! Walls constructed overnight, thank you Leo. Life can be so cruel, so can an author who writes a cliffhanger...just kidding Ms. Roth.

"Together we are a pair of dice, both of us landing on different sides, tipping over one hard edge after the other to reveal new facets of ourselves. And yet, we were always adding up to something bigger."

But does the "something bigger" turn into something wonderful or does it break them apart? I kind of see that "something bigger" as Sloane's dealing with her past problems from Warren, then learning about herself more deeply with Leo's help. But then when Sloane's world is turned upside down, AGAIN, (thank you Leo) I am not sure if she REALLY ever dealt with her feelings after Warren. I was very impressed with the sudden turn of events when the story took a sharp turn off the cliff and it sent me falling with Sloane. I didn't see that coming, obviously neither did Sloane. I am curious if Sloane comes back?

This story is well written, I liked getting to know Sloane and Leo, Oliver and Wendy too. I felt the pace was perfect and it kept my interest. The scenes between Dom and Sub were very real and authentic. I could feel the nervousness Sloane felt, the anxiety she must have dealt with. The love and passion from Leo was touching but now I wonder...(not wanting to spoil anything).

I look forward to the conclusion of this story and how Ms. Roth wraps it all up, or does she? It could explode into a whole new story and go in a totally different direction than I am thinking, but I do hope there is a some peace and happiness for Sloane. She deserves it, as does Leo but...

I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next one.

Don't make assumptions

I will freely admit that I made assumptions about this book based on it's title, cover and blurb. Without a doubt I thought that I was going to get a book that is jam packed with sex, bondage and spankings with little else. Of course I made all of these assumptions because I've not read Kate Roth before so went in blind to her writing style and story telling.

So you know that saying about assuming, the one along the lines of making an ass of you and me - well I learnt my lesson with this book

So while you do get what I indicated above, because really it is a BDSM erotica book, you get so much more. Kate delivers a storyline that is packed with emotion, self discovery, learning to love again and freedom to be who you are without judgement.

So while I loved the writing, plot and the male lead - I had a bit of a hard time with Sloane. I do think that she was well written for the type of character she is, it's just not the type that I personally resonate with very well as a reader. For me, a woman entering the world of submission for the first time needs to come with some level of trusting that her partner knows what they are doing and deferring to the advice given about the nature of the relationship. The way that this played out with Sloane was different and not really for me. Mind you, this aspect did get better as the book progressed and made me feel more in touch with her towards the end.

Leo was both captivating and intriguing as the hero. There was no denying his dominant nature and his natural ability in managing Sloane and the sexual situations between the pair. And although there are shadows surrounding him, his nature of wanting to move their relationship forward was awesome to read. He is sex, dominance and caring personified. I really wish I got to see somethings from his perspective throughout the novel.

The chemistry was explosive. The sex scenes were the right mixture of BDSM and raw passion. As expected, there is no fade to black with each scene explicit.

The writing kept me captivating and wanting to know what was lurking behind the actions of some of the characters. Kate Roth built up my internal tension and emotions until she finally broke the dam in spectacular fashion.

I really can't wait to see what happens next with Sloane and Leo because yes, this is not a standalone - so you can infer what that means for the ending.

Recommend you read this if you like explicit BDSM that deals with self discovery and unraveling secrets.

I received a copy of Bindings for a blog tour with review.

I saw a new Kate Roth book up for review and just signed up. I usually love her rom-coms, so I didn't bother reading the description...I was pleasantly surprised! For anyone that doesn't know me...I love erotica and bdsm in particular, so this book ended right up my alley.
The writing was fabulous. The storyline was well written, well thought out, and just different enough that it kept me engrossed. It's not just another D/s relationship...it's not just another employer/employee taboo story.
Sloane, 8 months out of a 3 year relationship, is a wonderfully true to life character. She's in a funk and tries to write her way out of it...unfortunately that just doesn't work. So she sits in a bookstore day in/day out drinking coffee trying to get beyond her writers block. She has good days, bad days, and I love her quiet contemplation. We learn a lot about her previous relationship without the author taking us back there...which is really nice, because you're always in the present!
Leo is awesome. A co-owner of the bookstore, he's brooding, funny, sexy and oh so sweet. He's basically everyone's ideal. Until he puts on those leather gloves...his voice drops, his eyes go smoky and he expects to be obeyed... Yes, Sir! Too bad he's so unselfish that he can't quite figure out how to tell Sloane that one little thing...that one little secret that can make all the difference.
From the moment Sloane and Leo jest about punishment, something clicks...and Sloane feels set free.
We take a wonderful journey with Leo and Sloane and delve into a tastefully done D/s relationship.
For all of you that hear BDSM and think, nope, not me...please take into consideration...if you can handle a little spanking then there's no excuse not to pick this wonderfully well written story up and give it a go. It's done so tastefully that you'll be engrossed before the end of the first chapter and it's so smooth you'll have hard time finishing....
Speaking of finishing...you'll have to wait until Leather Bound comes out sometime later this year (2016) because we're left with a hell of a cliffy! I love cliffhangers...I love the anticipation! I can't wait to see what happens with Leo and Sloane.

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

I have to take a minute to collect my thoughts on this emotional ride I just went on I was at the highest of highs and lowest of lows. Yes I laughed and cried. I was over the moon in love with Leo and Sloane and then boom the air was taken from me and I free falling trying to figure out what just happened in my happy moment to turn in so wrong. So let me tell you about Leo and Sloane.

Sloane was running and hiding from her past trying to pick up the pieces and live her life doing what she enjoyed, writing. When she meets Leo who is part owner of the local bookstore she frequents and is offered a part time job at.

Leo, well Leo is about one of the better BBF out there, he is dominant, knows what Sloane needs and when even if she doesn’t. They make a great D/s even if she is new to the scene. She has just enough sass and pushes just enough to make things fun (ie. Footloose at the pizza place).

Everything is wonderful they are getting to know each other. Yes they have pasts, doesn’t’ everyone but it’s their past no biggie they can get past it. Or can they? What happens when Leo starts pulling away because of the past? Or when the puzzle pieces fit together and Sloane’s past catches up to her? Can things be the same? Can they work it out? Yeah, I don’t know either cause this ends in a cliffhanger. I have to wait just like everyone else. NO NO NO that was my exact thought too. I need closure I need Leo and Sloane to fix this now. They need each other they are better together than apart. UGH… NOW I WAIT!!!!

A few of my favorites:

“It’s perfectly normal to feel like you’re weird or sick, but you need to understand that you aren’t. Your tastes don’t have to define you any more than your hairstyle does, or what kind of car you drive, or your favorite pizza topping. It’s a preference. It suits you and that’s all that matters.”

When you started the story with, ‘He spanked me before he knew my last name,’ I was on board for this guy solely because I want to hear the kinky details.

What an unexpected, awesome book. Honestly, when I read the description my first thought was, "I CANNOT read another BDSM book." Call me jaded or just worn out with the sub-genre in general, but it's gotten to a point where 90% of them are pretty much the same story with different names.

A huge part of what made this book so great was the stellar writing style of Roth. She crafted these characters perfectly allowing us the reader to get to know them as they got to know eachother. The other thing I adored about this book was that the relationship built at a natural pace throughout the entire book. No "I love you's" within the first two chapters.

The storyline itself is nothing an avid reader hasn't found before. Broken women (in this case a beautiful woman named Sloane) meats strong, domineering man (the hot as hell Leo) and a relationship begins. This of course is the Readers Digest version of the description, but it would do future readers a disservice to map out the whole plot in a review.

The characters were great. I loved how real Sloane felt to me. She was intelligent and bright. There were at times her fretting over the past and how it affects her present got to be a bit much for me. I guess it sometimes felt redundant, but for the majority of the time I enjoyed being stuck inside her head with her.

And Leo was fantastic as well. He wasn't your cookie cutter lead male. He was emotional and kind, but still was able to maintain his intense sense of masculinity. I loved him from start to finish.

The book ends on a cliffy so be forewarned that you may find yourself screaming, "This can't be the last page!" when you reach the end. (Or maybe that's just me be a raving lunatic).

So happy I got my hands on this book and was able to be introduced to Roth. She has a fantastic writing style that I can't wait to get more of. Solid 4 star read.

I had a hard time gathering my emotions and thoughts after reading this book. Kate Roth has jumped into an area of her writing that I hope she never leaves!!! I have been a fan of Mrs. Roth since her first book - The Low Notes...but this book has taken her to a whole nother level!! She has created and developed characters and a story line that literally had my heart racing by the final page.

I started off hating Sloane. I thought that she was weak and whiny. By the end of the book - I understood Sloane. I connected with her on so many levels. I felt her emotions like they were my own. I understand her brokenness and appreciate the inner turmoil and broken heart that she suffers from. After really reading this book - I feel like Mrs. Roth tapped into my own personal demons with this character.

Leo, Leo, Leo...I don't even know where to begin with this sexy flawed Dom. His character is just as real as Sloane to me. There are parts of him that I connected with and other parts that I wanted to connect with ;-) The only other leading man (in a book) that has effected me this way is Kevin Reed (from Kate Roth's The Low Notes) Both leading men are completely different personality wise...but the feelings that I felt for them are the same. I felt such a strong connection to Leo from the very beginning. I was a little upset at some of his actions - but after really thinking about them...I get it. I understand him and respect him.

**Please be advised that this book ends in a cliffhanger. But it only makes you want to read the conclusion to Leo and Sloane's story even more!!! By the time that you reach the words, "The End" you are going to be begging for these two to have a happy ending.

I am screaming from the roof tops that YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK!!!! This is hands down Kate Roth's best book and I only see her talent getting bigger and bigger with future books. I cannot wait to see what happens next for Leo and Sloane!! I wish that could give this book more then 5 Stars!!

A book that is published in 2016 ----» 2016 Popsugar Reading Challenge

Wow! I don't know how start this review. I'll say it loud and clear, if you like BDSM books, you need to read Bindings. If you want to start with BDSM books you need to read Bindings. Even if you don't want to read a BDSM book you need to read Bindings.

Kate Roth is a pretty good writer, I've read a few books of hers and I've liked them, but with Sloane's & Leo's story she nailed it.

Sloane is an interesting character, even a little relatable and Leo? Oh My Sweet Lord. I want/need/crave a man like him.

“Can you do that? Can you have dinner with me here under the stars and let me get to know you?”

The storyline is sexy, intense, steamy. I was glued to my kindle for hours.

The twist plost? I didn't see that coming, she blew my mind away.

I give honest reviews… always…

I watch the time down in the corner of my Ipad screen drift away as the percentage read inches higher with every minute passed reading this book. As the percentage kept going higher and higher I found myself saying “No. No. NO, don’t do this to me… I like you!”

In trying to be professional, I will say that I loathe a “cliffy” instead of saying I hate it. This book is as “cliffy” as a cliffhanger can be with the next installment happening later in 2016. I wanted to like this book.. but now I am not so sure...

There were parts I actually enjoyed. I enjoyed the author’s writing style, her word usage and flow. I had no trouble keeping up with the storyline (until the cliffy), and Mrs. Roth has a mature style that was a joy to read.

For the most part, I believed the characters,Leo and Sloan, and their relationship and I found their interaction quite sexy. I know it may be silly of me, but there were a couple of instances where hygiene was a breaking point for me…. as there were things that made me go “Ewwwww” and I wondered if they were really necessary for the story to continue…

Overall what made me break out my “old teacher red pen” on this book was the ending. I get that we want the saga to continue, but come on… I prefer each book having a different set of main characters and for the story to move on like real life. There could have been resolution for Leo and Sloan and the next book to be about OIiver and Wendy, or a love interest for their sister. Stopping mid thought On Leo and Sloan made me mad… I don’t know that I will remember to come back and finish reading their story if it is released too far in the future and that breaks my heart...

I received this ARC from the publisher, which doesn't affect the contents of this review.

Bindings by Kate Roth is a great read for anyone who is craving a darker novel. Though if you are looking for a truly dark book, this isn't the one for you. I would say that Bindings is a middle level dark novel, where there are some dark scenes, mostly it reads like a contemporary novel and it is quite fun. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters' navigation of both sides of their relationship.

Sloane is running away from her old life and a horrible relationship. See, she was the other woman for years, and once she saw the error of her ways, she got out of it. Though she had the backbone to leave, she is left with feeling inadequate and down on herself. She is convinced that she is going to write a book to purge her feelings. She does her writing in a little bookstore in town.

It is at this bookstore that she meets Leo. He is mysterious, commanding, and caring. He sees a naturally submissive woman in Sloane and mistakenly takes her down the road of such thinking that it is one she has traveled before. When he finds out that she is new to the life he leads, he gives her a choice to follow or not. She chooses to submit. However, submission isn't the only thing that Leo wants from her. He wants a relationship and to get to know her.

I really liked the dynamic between Leo and Sloane. He was always what she needed when she needed it. He always knew when to push and when to pull back. Sloane showed great growth in this story. She starts as a shell of a woman and emerges confident and strong. Take note that this book is not a stand alone. It is merely the first book in the series and it DOES end in a bit of a cliffy. It wasn't too bad, though, just giving the relationship more growth. I can't wait to see where the author takes these two characters next.

Complimentary copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

After ending a three-year toxic relationship with a married man, Sloane has moved to the small town of Salem, where she begins a job at a family bookstore. She had originally set out to write a book about her experience as a way to heal from the pain of her failed relationship, but is quickly caught up in small town life and all of the possibilities that await her. The last thing she had expected was to fall into some serious lust with one of her employers Leo, co-owner of the local bookstore. When the mysterious Leo begins to open up a part of Sloane’s sexuality she had never explored, the two become close. But will the pain of her past relationship keep Sloane from moving on? Will Leo be able to break past the trust issues Sloane has when it comes to her love life?

Roth writes some seriously swoon-worthy heroes and Leo is no exception. He’s an alpha with a sensitive side and the way he interacts with not only Sloane but the rest of his family as well is endearing. I had a little hard time connecting with Sloane as she did come across as a little wishy washy and weak, but I did like that it seemed as though she became more empowered as the book went on. As expected, Roth creates characters that are easy to love and a story that is easy to get lost in.

If you’re not into BDSM romances, please don’t let the label dissuade you from giving this one a try. Bindings is a beginner’s journey into a consensual D/s arrangement and the budding relationship between Sloane and Leo is just as sweet as it is spicy. Be forewarned though, while not listed as part of a series this book does end on a cliffhanger!

First things first, the main female character doesn't have a last name. She's like Cher or Madonna.... She's just Sloane. Ok now that we've gotten that out of the way.... On with the review.

Sloane has issues, she struggles with nightmares and has run away from her home town to escape her relationship with a married man. She finds solace in a small bookstore where she hides out and works on a novel all day long. One evening she is jolted awake from a nightmare and spills coffee all over a leather bound edition of the Scarlet Letter. When she goes down to apologize about the book, is shocked to meet Leo Calloway instead of his brother Oliver. The attraction is almost instantaneous, and when he mentions punishment her interest is peaked.

Leo is a Dom and the next day he takes her into a private room and spanks her. He then approaches her with a packet with his clean blood tests (very forward). Sloane decides to jump in with both feet into this strange relationship while Leo struggles with her willingness.

Unfortunately this book just didn't work for me. The characters lacked depth and I had a hard time wanting to get to know them better. The author also foreshadowed a bit too much, because I figured out what was going on by chapter eight. By the time Sloane figured it out, the book is over. So yes, it ends in a cliffhanger so be warned. I haven't decided if I will read the next installment yet. I do kind of want to know how she will resolve Sloane and Leo's issues, so we shall see.

I absolutely loved this book by Kate Roth. The characters although both flawed, kept me intrigued.

Sloane had moved on from her past, a past she didn't want to think about anymore. She moved to a new town to start fresh and to take back control of her life. She had been going to the local bookstore, Callaway books, her home away from home, attempting to write her very first novel and surrounding herself with books and her thoughts. She met Leo there, part owner of the bookstore with his brother Oliver.

Leo - from the minute their eye's met saw something in Sloane. A submissiveness that had his dominant side wanting to run his fingers through her hair and pull tight while slapping her ass six ways from Sunday. Sloan never saw herself as a submissive, but she had always had this thing inside of her that drew her towards BDSM. It had always intrigued her giving up that control to someone to bend to their will could she do it? Was it really something she wanted to do? Yes! it was, and as much as that scared her she found it also thrilled her to. Her journey into the BDSM World set trials and tribulations between Sloan and Leo, with Leo and his dark secrets and Sloan with her past coming back to haunt her this made an interesting read and one I couldn't put down. I give this 4/5 stars.

It is a Really a great book.

Wow! I took my time with this book because I feared it ending to soon for me. The timing to read this book was amazing. I love everything this writer releases. She has a way of telling a story you don't expect. Her style isn't set in just one way and I love it. She can just flow into any genre gloriously.

Her introduction to Sloane and Leo was definitely not what I expected when I began to hear about this book. I knew I would enjoy them, but as I read it became more. You will discover a connection with both characters. You see flaws that overshadow the perfection of their pairing. Their story will definitely give you all the feels with some goosebumps.

It's hard to compare or liken this story to others. You get a bit of Fifty shades in it, but with a more sensual realistic twist. It also reminds me of my first rendezvous into the erotic books and learning about doms. Memories are a great way to win me over. Kudos Mrs. Roth for writing such a hot steamy book that takes you down a rocky path and leaves you panting for more. Wondering what will happen next. I have to admit I am dying to see if you give me more of Leo's pov. ;)

Great book! Those are the first words that come to mind when I think about this book. I am a huge fan of erotica and an even bigger fan of this author so reading and reviewing this book was a no brainer for me. This book is nothing like her previous works but in such a good way.

This author took her writing for Bindings to a whole new level and definitely has made her mark on me. This is the first book in a series and warning... it does end on a cliffhanger. This book was sexy, intense, passionate, edgy, sweet, and by the end, it left me wanting so much more.

If you are looking for spoilers... keep trolling because my lips are sealed.

This is Sloane and Leo's story. From the beginning, they are connected. He is a Dom and he can sense the inner submissive in her. The chemistry and sparks between them is hot. The passion between them is electric. I cannot wait for more of them in the next book later this year.

I recommend this book.

When I first saw about this book I thought it was going to be the typical innocent girl who knows nothing of the BDSM lifestyle. with a dominant man teaching her what she likes (50 shades of Greyish) and I was fine with that. Oh boy was I WRONG!!!
Leo is not Christian Grey, no damaged sole needing mended. He is straight up Dom in the sheets, Sweetheart in streets. I LOVED him!
Sloane albeit somewhat innocent she already had an idea of what turned her on and her interest was peaked. Her past has left her feeling used and emotionally abused but craves this type of release.
The two of them were hot as hell, smoking up my Kindle and cute as can be, melting my heart.
Then Leo proves he is a dumb#ss man. He hurts her in a way they may not recover from. Not her body, her heart!
That ending! Oh boy I feel a shift in power. I think Sloane may take contol of her life in whole new way. CANNOT wait for the next one!

This is for mature readers only, contains sexual scenes, and BDSM.
Sloane is building her life back together after a breakup that broke her soul. She moves to a new town, where she doesn't know anyone. She finds a Book Shop Café, and decides it would be the perfect place to write her book that she is working. She becomes a regular and is considered a friend of the owner. His brother Leo, is the owner of the store too, he decides it's time for him to come back and work in the shop, that is when the fire begins. Can Leo put her back together? Is that what she really wants?

The first few chapters of the book, I really thought it was just a cheesy remake of 50 Shades, I was definitely wrong. While 50 Shades, showed readers the abuse the characters went through, this book is a true romance story. You could actually feel the love budding up between the two main characters. Great Job! Fantastic read! This will put a 50 shades book to shame!

Sloan is the kind of woman that all women have been (or will be) at some point in their life. She is heart broken and devastated at her loss and the only way she knows to escape the pain is to run away. What she doesn't count on is Leo being in her favourite bookstore. Leo is everything Sloan needs but doesn't know she wants. Typical conundrum right? Yeah right. I'm sure Mr Perfect isn't just hanging around a bookstore waiting for one of us to walk into his life, but this is a romance, and a good one at that!

Anyway back to my review.............

Sloan and Leo have an instant attraction that sizzles. It will melt your panties and get your heart pounding. As their relationship progresses, we learn just what happened to Sloan and the plot starts to thicken.

I gotta say that I hated the ending, not because the story was bad, because it is really great, but because it left me needing more. Like right NOW!!!

ARC given by the author for an honest review.

An absolutely, brilliant, intense read. Kate Roth is a new author to me and I will, without a doubt, read more from her.

Bindings draws you in from the start and the characters are fabulously written and intriguing.

Sloane is trying to re-build her life after her relationship ended and takes some time out for herself to try and write a novel. After getting friendly with a local book shop, Sloane is offered a part time job. This is how she meets Leo - can I just say that Leo will immediately having you clenching your thighs together! ;-)

After an extremely steamy and unexpected first encounter with Leo, Sloane realises that Leo's domineering and intense ways is just what she needs to let go of the past, Can Sloane and Leo find what they need and submit to each other?

A definite must read and a very well deserved 5 star read.

Well damn. Finishing this book, I have no idea what my expectations were going in, but I certainly wasn't expecting to get as emotionally invested in this couple as a did. At first I didn't like the way Sloane and Leo's relationship started off, but it was explained later, and character-wise, ended up making sense. The passion between the two characters was amazingly written and honestly everything about it was perfectly executed. The sex wasn't overdone, it wasn't eye-roll worthy and it was mixed with the perfect amount of story and romance.

I've used perfect twice now, but I can't help it. A great read and I hope there's more to Sloane and Leo's story!
