After losing his wife and his honor, Ridmark Arban the Gray Knight set out to stop the return of the malevolent Frostborn.
He failed.
Now the gates of ruin have been thrown open, and the Frostborn and their armies threaten to overthrow the High Kingdom.
Only Ridmark stands in their way. Distrusted by his countrymen and broken by grief and loss, he will nonetheless show the Frostborn why the Gray Knight is the most feared warrior of the age.
Standing over six feet tall, USA Today bestselling author Jonathan Moeller has the piercing blue eyes of a Conan of Cimmeria, the bronze-colored hair of a Visigothic warrior-king, and the stern visage of a captain of men, none of which are useful in his career as a computer repairman, alas.
He has written the DEMONSOULED series of sword-and-sorcery novels, and continues to write THE GHOSTS sequence about assassin and spy Caina Amalas, the COMPUTER BEGINNER'S GUIDE series of computer books, and numerous other works. His books have sold over one million copies worldwide.
While this book was rather enjoyable, I found it difficult to start with. Watching confident main characters lose that and mope around for the first six chapters hurt to read. Once the action picked up, the book became difficult to put down, and I was soon fully immersed. The climax was rather delicious and I enjoyed the resolution. I can't wait to continue with this series.
10 books, each as good or better than the previous one. The characters continue to become more complex. Most important the Frostborn have arrived. The stakes are increased for all Can't wait to see the part of this truly incredible saga. It seems as though I give many of the books I read 5 stars. This is probably because I don't keep reading a book that has little interest for me at the start. But this is really a great series & deseves at least 5 stars!
I really liked this book, but it had it's slow parts at times. I felt some of chapters were dragging, but I'm still enjoying the story and I think the author has done a great job with character development and throwing nice plot twists. Out of the 10 books I've read so far this book was my least favorite, but I still enjoyed it. I give this book a 4 out of 5.
Another great book, Jonathan such an awesome author, he writes so fast, books come out every couple of months in different book series. The quality never drops.
Grey Knight must face his greatest test, a loss of the woman he loved, the Frostborn returning, strife and traitors in the Kingdom. Great characters, new content. A must read.
Great read . . .in spite of the grammatical errors and dubious sagaway
Well-defined characters and gripping storyline that engages the imagination of the reader. You quickly become immerse in the story and begin rooting for the hero. This particular book was somewhat anticlimactic, these were boiling up to what I hope would be a big finish but instead the saga continues.
I was so happy to see Ridmark and Calliande again. The world is falling apart and the action is better than ever. No romance in this one but the battles were fantastic. I enjoyed the introduction of the Ridmark's family. I felt it was a little overkill with Morigna. Every other page had her name on it. But I didn't like her so I may be biased.
This is a long series and after several books a story can sometimes grow stale, but this one continues to grow and shift. SPOILER:
Starting with the death of major players to the splitting of the party, we are seeing new faces and new challenges, with multiple characters evolving into deeper personalities.
The book can be repetitive st times especially when reintroducing characters. This being the 10th book I am sure all the readers understand everyone's history and it does not need in depth follow up.
This series gets better with each book. I can't wait to find out what happens in the next book. Mr. Moeller you have a new fan. Keep it up. Love this series.
A fresh breath to the story. Finally arandar has some feelings and character development. Same goes for others as well. Probably the best book yet, difficult to say why but turn of events really picked the interest for me.
The opening was great and did address the death of Moringa well. I also think that Calliandes' love for Ridmark was there but did not take anything away from the story. I also think that even though the characters survived I still don't know who will survive the next books.
Warts and all, I still give this book and the whole series a resounding 5 stars. All the elements of an excellent story that keeps one turning the pages.
There was in fact a traitor in the kingdom and in all honest it didn't really surprise me much to be honest with you as not only does he believe hes killed off the king and his family line but he also quit the battle field and left about 1/2 on the field to their possible death. But it's turning out to have some nice twist to it. As Ridmark isn't as dumb or as much of a coward as the traitor wanted everyone to believe.
