Review Title: Jesus, The Utimate Disciple Trainer (review of The JESUS Training Manual by Richard Mull)

If books received grades in addition to stars, this book would receive and A++. The author boldly tells of how he determined he had not received full training through his educational background preparing him to become a pastor. Certain parts of Scripture seemed to be overlooked or put aside as areas not worthy of discussion. Unfortunately those areas in which he did not receive training were the very areas where the power of Christ and the Holy Spirit are illuminated.
The author's path, which literally set him apart from many of those with whom he had previously been on a parallel path, caused him to be misunderstood and assumed to have changed from being a Baptist to a "charismatic" preacher. But his quest did not involve changing denominations, but instead involved pursuing all the fullness of God given power available to a disciple of Jesus. He went directly to the source of the words of Jesus in the Bible for instruction in being a disciple. He had to retrain considering how he previously learned that some things Jesus taught in the past were only meant for the twelve disciples back then.
He began to see miracles as he and his family relied solely on the Lord's provision as he was first involved in this project of being under the direct training of Jesus for his discipleship. Some people who read the book may be skeptical of the healings and deliverance of people from possession by evil spirits. The author realizes that some people may have not been scriptural in their methods and teachings in these areas. But he aligns all that he does with Scripture and advises to not go with anything that opposes Scripture. I believe the book to be an honest account of what he has witnessed that gives glory to God for what He is able to do today when people are fully committed to letting God work through them.
This is another great book that I received from bookfun.org in exchange for reading it and posting my honest review. I have learned a lot from this book about ways to advance my faith and become a better equipped disciple. I hope to help others to know Jesus and follow him more closely.

The first part of the book is mainly biographical. The author was raised in an American evangelical church that taught that 'signs and wonders' had died out in the first century. Unexpected events in his young adult life showed him that this was not the case.
I found it interesting at first, but by the end of the first section the narrative becomes somewhat repetitive, expecting readers to be shocked at the idea of God speaking in modern times. Since my background is rather different, and I had both read and heard this kind of teaching many times, I don’t think I learned anything new. I skimmed somewhat, and didn’t do more than glance at the ‘study questions’ at the end of each chapter.
Still, the author writes clearly and persuasively, and uses Scripture in context. On the whole it seemed like a sound book, and it has evidently been useful to many. However it’s no longer in print, and the Kindle version is no longer available - so I wouldn't really recommend it over any of the other books on similar topics.
Three-and-a-half stars would perhaps be fairer.

The Jesus Training Manual by Richard Mull is an amazing book. He presents through his life experiences, scriptures, and real-life examples, the idea that believers can have the power that Jesus and His disciples possessed. Provided that believers are living as God directs, in an intimate relationship with Him, so much more can be accomplished on earth for His glory—healing, delivery from addictions and demons. Not only does the author share these ideas, he provides written and on-line resources and a guide to follow to “trouble-shoot” to detect obstacles to this power.
This book can be used as a devotional every day or once a week in my opinion. It even could work well as a Bible study. Not a quick read—this book can change the way a believer thinks and lives. The reader needs to ponder and devote time to the ideas presented. I recommend this book that I received through TBCN in exchange for an honest review.

The Jesus Training Manual – Operating in Miracles, Signs and Wonders by Richard Mull is an intriguing read filled with personal stories of what happens when a former Baptist Minister stepped outside the box that neatly contained all that he had ever been taught about Jesus and allowed God to do with his life what God wants to do in all of our lives.
The stories in this book are inspiring and will challenge you, or should I say make you want, to break apart the box where you’ve placed God and let Him have His way in your life. This book is a call to action for anyone wanting their life completely turned upside down and then right side up again by the power and move of God in their life. A must read for today’s Church leaders.

The Jesus Training Manual is truly a motivational book for anyone looking grow their faith, especially anyone who wants a personal relationship with the God that we read about in the Bible! Richard Mull shares this book in two segments with the first part of the book being his own personal story, and that probably was one of my favorite parts of the book because it is told in such a down to earth way. Sometimes humorous but those life lessons that he shares sort of opened my eyes to what is going on in my own life. The second half of the book deals with Biblical foundations and really steers the user to various parts of the Bible depending on the chapter and provides plenty of scripture reference. I love that each chapter has in depth study questions that allowed for personal reflection and growth while also providing scriptural questions that had me digging into my Bible. Mr. Mull hits on so many relevant topics and but some of the most significant for me was spiritual armor and our spiritual authority. There are several blank pages at the end for study notes which enhanced the book for me. A book that could easily be incorporated into a group study but also perfect for individual use. It now has a permanent place on my shelf.

In his book, The Jesus Training Manual, Richard Mull talks about his personal testimony and what he learned about while studying scripture and time spent in fasting and prayer. I was interested in this book, as he was asking some of the same questions that I have often asked; why don’t we see more of the miracles, signs, and wonders that happened in Jesus’ and His disciples times here on earth? I have been told a few reasons for that, which Mr. Mull also tackles and discusses in the book. And while I may not have agreed 100% with everything he said he really did give me food for thought. This is his personal story when he decided to look outside the box that he had put God into. It is a well -organized book backed with many scriptures and also includes study questions at the end of chapters that would benefit a study group. I received a copy for an honest review from the The Book Club Network, Inc. and the opinions are my own.

I love the way Richard Mull writes - it’s personal and takes you on the journey with him. The Jesus Training Manual is a great book to read as a supplement to your personal devotions, with a friend or in a group. There are so many truths to think about throughout the day…and conversation starters either with a friend or with your Heavenly Father. In my opinion, this is a book that could be read multiple times and you would get something different out of it each time.

This is a good personal account of a man who, after years in ministry, asked God to disciple him. He had been taught that God no longer performed miracles. He tells his personal journey to finding that God is very active today, healing, etc. In the latter part of the book he gives biblical teaching. I found the book to be solid on Scripture. He does give a warning that if one will pursue God passionately, neat theology may be disrupted.

I read quite a few great books last year. This was probably my favorite. I wish it was better known and more widely circulated amongst believing circles. The author has some very important points to get across to the countless people entangled in the powerless, denominational religious system. I am still working to unlearn most of what I learned in my time there, but this book was an amazing find in my quest to go beyond the veil.
