A lively picture book that examines feelings of anger in an amusing but reassuring way through animal characters - perfect for young children who are experiencing angry emotions. The story offers a gentle way in to discuss this difficult emotion. At the end of the story there are notes for parents and teachers with suggestions of ways to help children deal with anger. Tiger is in a terrible mood. He has been angry with everyone all day. Then Monkey accidentally chooses the book that Tiger wanted and Tiger has a full blown tantrum in the library. How can Miss Bird help Tiger to manage his anger, and how can he make up with his friends? It is part of a series Behaviour Matters , which is perfect for sharing with children as a gentle means of discussing their emotions, boosting self-esteem and reinforcing good behaviour. They support the Personal, Social and Emotional Development Area of Learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage. 'Excellent for sharing and encouraging discussion... we can all learn from the approach taken in this series.' Parents in Touch
Another lovely text looking into anger and aggression in the classroom. The book highlights the importance of sharing as well as coping mechanisms and techniques to calm down. This could open up a discussion about why children may feel angry or sad at certain times and why it’s important to be kind to classmates.
Miss 4 is autistic and often actutely studies micro expressions / body language. Her problem with this book is that (a) the tiger looks too scary, and (b) his eyebrows / hair tuft are drawn inconsistently so that (to her) he often looks angry even when that isn't the artist's intent. The overall messaging is otherwise good.
Miss 4 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
Great story to explore how someone feels when they are in the middle of a tantrum. It clearly shows the expectations of the adults and how tiger does not work within his environment in a positive way. He unleashes on everyone. Kids will be able to relate to the story as well as the illustrations. Great for SEL sessions and group discussion. Highly recommended for Grades K-5.
This title is part of a series of books teaching about how to handle various feelings. First published in England I. 2014 and in the United States in 2022. Text is written in the style of a third level reader and would not flow well for me to read aloud. Two extra pages about how to share and discuss this title.
Quite a good story may be a nice one to share with asd children who also have anger issues. May help them see what others think and see when they have a tantrum.
Great book to use as a discussion starter with children in the classroom or at home. This one is about being angry but learning to not throw tantrums and remain calm. Great collection of books!
Very relevant for a certain small boy. Loved the very relatable scenario in the school setting, and the positive, practical ideas to help "Tiger" cope with his frustration. Part of a cute series on behaviour, featuring the same animals. I think we need them all...
