Nice coffee table book. Nice photos of US National Parks. Breaks them down by geographical features. Includes a general map of each park, a brief description and history.

The detail that completely flipped my perspective in America's National Parks: The Spectacular Forces that Shaped Our Treasured Lands was how a bunch of "ancient" city rules were really just old neighbors fighting about noise and trash. Paul Schullery clearly worked from court records and complaint logs, and the pettiness is spectacular, like a baker getting sued over the smell of his own bread. The pacing dragged a bit in the long section on city planning. Solid pick if you love history that proves people have always been annoying.

I was disappointed by this book. Though it is a strictly coffee table book and the pictures are beautiful I was disappointed in the photos of certain parks as they really didn't show the beauty or importance of those parks. Especially grand portages picture.
