Reluctant restauranteur, Keely Granger, wants nothing more than to escape the small town she’s lived in her whole life, but her guilt and family responsibilities keep her firmly entrenched in Comfort Crossing, Mississippi.
Lonely photojournalist, Hunt Robichaux, takes a break from his life-is-short, chase-after-your-dreams lifestyle and returns home to help his recently widowed sister and his nephews. But every responsibility he’s ever taken on ends in disaster, so he’s determined to leave before anyone starts to depend on him and gets hurt.
As Keely and Hunt’s relationship cook up to a more-than-childhood-friends level, Hunt has to decide if he's been chasing his dreams in the wrong part of the world. But as secrets from their past begin to unravel, Keely reels from the knowledge that everything she’s believed to be true is all a lie. A disaster — and the truth — threaten to tear them apart forever.
Kay Correll is a USA Today bestselling author of sweet, heartwarming stories that are a cross between women’s fiction and contemporary romance. She is known for her charming small towns, quirky townsfolk, and the enduring strong friendships between the women in her books.
Kay splits her time between the Southwest coast of Florida and the Midwest of the U.S. and can often be found out and about with her camera, taking a myriad of photographs, often incorporating them into her book covers. When not lost in her writing or photography, she can be found spending time with her ever-supportive husband, knitting, or playing with her puppies - a cavalier who is too cute for his own good and a naughty but adorable Australian shepherd. Their five boys are all grown now and while she misses the rowdy boy-noise chaos, she is thoroughly enjoying her empty nest years.
I enjoy this series ... they’re simple, quick, feel-good reads set in a town that I wish was real so I could visit myself. The only thing that bothered me with this one was all of the typos ... soooo many! I wish the author would invest in a good copy editor - it would make for a way more enjoyable read for us.
I am so glad I found Kay Corrells books. The Letter picks up where The Memory Box left off, only the main characters shifted to cafe manager, Keely Granger. Keely gave up her lifelong dream due to the sudden death of her father and the tragic car accident that left her sister, Katherine in a wheelchair, to run the family business. Many secrets in this book and much guilt. Loved it!!
Oh my I hope there is another book soon! I hate to see this series end. The characters, friendships, romances and stories are great!! Hope there are more!!
The Magnolia Café: Comfort Crossing Book 4 is by Kay Correll. It is a book about guilt and responsibility. It also keeps your attention as you read and appeals to your emotions. Keely Granger has spent her life in Comfort Crossing. She had dreams of being a journalist and traveling all over the world with her friend Hunt Robichaux. However, life got in the way and her sense of guilt and responsibility kept her in The Magic Café running it for the family. However, her Mother still kept the final say in everything that went on there. Keely wanted to refurbish and expand the building; but her Mother wouldn’t provide the finances. Keely’s sister Kate had been in an accident which left her in a wheel chair. She spent her days at home with Mother. Hunt Robichaux was the photographer friend of Keely’s but he had been all over the world chasing his dreams. However, he was now back in Comfort Crossing to help his recently widowed sister and his nephews. He is having problems handling the boys and just knows that this will end in disaster as has anything he had taken the responsibility of. As they get to know each other again, Keely and Hunt find things are not always smooth. Just as they want to break out, so does Kate. The weather even wants to break out. The book is very good and keeps your interest
I have never seen such a depressing, guilt ridden bit of sad characters...each one worse than the other. Secrets, lies, denial all haunting each member of this closely woven cast of family and friends.
If I sat down for a bit of fun reading it wasn't about to happen. There were words left unsaid, thoughts not to be expressed, and truths not to be admitted or told. Bitterness, anger, unrequited love all seething and festering. Gruges long held, revenge waiting to be administered like the tornado destroying everything in it's path.
There is redemption in truth, love, and a happy ending. Isn't that the formula for a cozy? No spoiler here.
I chose this heading because I, again, loved the characters, both old & new, in The Magnolia Cafe. I enjoyed the fact that the characters of her previous books were still included in this book with more than one romance developing. The part of the hurricane coming was exciting too! I was flipping the pages on that part like crazy to know what was going to happen! As always I recommend this book to middle age & up females who like romance, excitement & happy endings in their books!
This story took some time for me to really embrace, although once I found a connection to the characters and the situation I really loved it. The twists and turns of life for Keely who manages The Magnolia Cafe were unexpected and yet so real. I think what I love most about Kay Correll's writing is that her characters seem so very real. It's like talking with a neighbor. This story included Keely, Hunt & Katherine who I had already met in one of her other series. I love how she integrates her characters in each of her series.
There's always enough blame to go around. And, when that blame is internalized, paths change in life. This is a story about self-blame and how damaging that can be by limiting personal choices. What it takes to over come blame's effects and affects is delt with in a manner relatable to the reader. Again, if you've enjoyed other Comfort Crossing novels, you'll enjoy this one too. If this is your first Comfort Crossing read, you'll probably want to read the other books in this series too.
Loved this story. Keeley holds herself responsible for so much. It causes her to give up on the life she had planed. But is anything really her fault? Hunt also holds himself responsible for things that may not have been his fault. Can the two of them forgive themselves and make their love for each other work?
Keely and Natalie share the same secrets, but don't know the other feels their at fault. Hunt has come home to help Natalie with her boys, little does he know we will discover his best friend in school could become the love of his life. Kat has learned to stand up for herself. What will the future bring for her?
Fabulous love story and continuing of seeing others in the series. Tornados are scary. They do indeed the damage as Kay tells about in her book and much worse. So glad all made it to safety in her story. The good thing about it was that it helped Owen see he did not want to waste one day with Bella in his life.
Wow a great story!!! I couldn't stop til I got to the end. I got concerned every time jenny felt odd about the upcoming wedding date so glad everyone was OK after the disaster. Wow!!!
I just finished Magnolia Cafe and am going over to pick up book five as soon as I am done here! I just can't wait to see what is happening next in the lives of these people I have come to care so much for.
This story could help many people come away from placing blame and assuming uncaring attitudes. Love is definitely a cure all even if it is unexpected.
I loved watching Keely and Hunts relationship evolve. My heart goes out to Keely, such guilt, dedication and responsibility she carried. Her Mother should be ashamed of herself. Time for Keely to live her life for herself.
The characters in this series are wonderful. Kay pulls you into the plot of the story as if you are there in the town. I love the story line. Sit back relax and take the adventure played out in front of you.
You get the story behind why Newly. Felt she had to give up what made her happy. Jenny and Clay wedding got postponed due to a tornado. You follow Owen and Izzy love sory
It was good. I enjoyed the characters and the plot. I like that she brings back characters from previous books. I suggest you read them in order. There are ongoing plots from previous books.
Very easy to read - love the little twists the author works into the story. And I love the happily ever after endings. Guess I am just a romantic soft soul.
