There are pictures in this book that can set me to dreaming. I really liked the pictures of old quilts that allow the reader to discern the quilting patterns and colors. However, I dod not think this book as useful as some others, which detail the background of the Amish as well as give greater depth to choices they made in their lives and art. And I have to admit I did not like any of the patterns Jefferson gives for "beginner" Amish projects using cut-outs. It lowered the tone of the book, but perhaps it just makes it accessible to teens and beginning seamstresses.

this book was fantastic. it had great instructions for how to make each style of quilt. and, before each set of instructions, it had a brief history of that quilt style--its influences, significance for amish culture, its region, etc. the book also included some 1-2 page text boxes with descriptions of elements of amish life such as marriage, religion, migration, etc. it was all really interesting.
