I received a copy from Netgalley for a fair and honest review.
I guess I was expecting more from this than I got out of it. I guess this could be helpful for people new to blogging but I found this to be full of stuff I already knew. To be honest some of the tips seemed dated and I was surprised that the author knew about YouTube but not about the booktube community. I did find some good blog sharing sites from this. At one point I thought the author's use of language was a little too lax and seemed kinda phony, for instance when she used the term "peeps". Overall I guess this would be useful for those new to blogging.

This book is a great reference guide. It isn't something that I, as a nonblogger, am going to understand all at one time. However, since I have interest in one, I will read it over and over again.

From the reason why people book blog to how to be noticed and the difference between hosting sites, this book is a go to manual many will use in the future. It is also quite the inspirational book, as well. For instance I would never have thought to use it to get my child involved more in reading. Great idea!

So, this book will be among the quick reach books for a long time for me.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Book Blogger Platform,  Barb Drozdowich

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre:  Computers & Internet, Professional & Technical

Well, like many people I fell into to blogging by accident a couple of years back. I love to read, added reviews on amazon of books I’d read and started getting authors requesting I read their books. From there I joined a site aimed at reviewers and saw they prefer those with a blog. I didn’t really understand the whole blog thing but had subscribed to a few art and novel blogs and saw that for me wordpress is easier than Blogger to use, so started a Wordpress blog. From there it grew and I now have a product review blog too.

Blogging demands time though, its not a quick and easy route to free stuff, what you get out is determined by what you put in. To start I was confused, so many things to choose, to learn, different styles, themes, colours, fonts...I was guided there by my experience as a reader/user of blogs, but that’s where this book is useful. I’ve changed bits overtime, but I’m still reluctant to make too many changes in case I get it wrong. I still open a new window to make changes, so I can revert back to the old one if I mess up...and I do!
Barb has a series of YouTube videos – ironic really – linked to the book, and with the help of those I plan to make more radical changes when I’ve time. If you’re just starting its easier I feel to focus on the videos than try to make sense of what the book says. Much of the text is quite complex, and its not exactly riveting reading anyway is it ? These kind of books are always somewhat dry to read. I tend to do them in stages, give time to absorb new info.

There are things I’ve learned from this book, that I could incorporate, how to get more subscribers, how to encourage comments etc. Blogging really is second to me to reading, and is there to support my addiction to new books! That doesn’t mean I ignore it though or can treat it as inferior. I try to have a new book or product review each day, and its a personal choice what kind of content and how often you blog. Barb helps there – you need to focus on your aims, and mine is to get good books to read, and useful  products to review. For others is about trying to make money from the site, to attract adverts, get commissions from amazon etc. Each demands a different approach, and books like this help you see where to go, what to do.
I’d love to make money from my blogs – who wouldn’t? That demands even more time though and I feel my life is pretty full as it is, so currently I’m not going that route. In the future though who knows? Books like this do help take away the mythology surrounding how to make money from blogging.

In a way I did feel Barb let personal preference override her advice at times, often there was little to choose but she’d come down on one side without really explaining why. That doesn’t help readers work out how to choose for themselves.
There’s some interesting stats re blogs, but for me and I suspect many bloggers, that side doesn’t really get made the most of. What many really want to know is what makes the most effective blog for a good user experience. I’m not convinced this book really covers that, but it does offer lots of advice on where to go to find out things, and of course the YouTube videos which are excellent.

If you’re thinking about starting a blog don’t let the technical side put you off, in this book it sounds quite scary at times! Just start one up and learn as you go, using books like this to guide you but not rule your choices. Its Your blog You choose, having explored different options first. I call it the Suck It and See approach!
It is easier if you get it right to start – I’d like to change the “theme “ of mine but not sure if that's going to involve a lot of work or be a simple job. If I’d chosen more carefully to begin that would have been better, but I was just swamped, overawed with all the choices. Looking at them with a book like this to hand would have helped me weigh up pros and cons.
I have the free wordpress blog but am thinking about changing to the paid one, really just because I like to be in control. I did fall foul of their policies by accident about two month into my venture and my blog was locked, but they were great at advising where I’d gone wrong and soon unlocked it. Having now made over 1600 book reviews I really don’t want to risk that again, but am still not sure what else I need to do if I change, what Wordpress does – such as back ups – that I would need to build in. I suspect that's true of many of us though.

Use this book for reference, use the YouTube videos, but don’t get put off by the jargon, the tech side. You can learn as you go – many of us have and TBH I think you never stop learning. Its a great hobby, whether you’re talking about books, products, hobbies or just using it as a kind of daily diary.

Stars: Four, a great reference but a little dry and hard going at times.

ARC received from Netgalley and publishers for review purposes.

This book was a fantastic read on how to improve my book blog. It was quick and simple and easy to get through. At the end of the book there was a technical help section where one could go and view youtube videos on how to do the technological things, which is necessary for someone like me who is hopeless with technology. There were great handy hints on how to get your blog out there more and the best ways to network. I look forward to implementing her ideas to the blog and seeing the progress I encounter.

Sometimes the book was a little repetitive and that is the only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars.

My recommendation: Perfect if you are looking at starting a book blog.

Do you read an insane amount of books? Do you want to write reviews but you don’t know where to start? Then this is the book for you. Learn how to start and where to start and what it is you are starting. This book handles everything from layouts, content, domains, monetizing your blog and how to get Advanced Reading Copies (ARC’s). This book is written by the popular blogger Barb Drozdowich. This is a summary of all her most frequently asked questions and with quick and short answers and any other information you might need when starting a blog.

My experience:
I wanted to read this book immediately. It sounded fascinating and I’m always one looking for new statistics I can draw out of the hat when I converse with others.

I expected a more of a business angle when I initially requested this book. A book that would be more like a study guide with the statistics of blogs and blog users but this is a full on manual.
person).

This book gave me basic step-to-step instructions on what to do while also explaining why I should do it and how I should do it. I am a software developer so I do read books like this for homework. This is an informal book of guidelines for beginners or experienced bloggers who would like to learn more from a successful book blogger.
The author is an experienced blogger. She takes you through all the basics a beginner book blogger should know. Notice the word beginner this is not for intermediate level bloggers.
She goes through the layout of the blog. Do’s and don'ts and useful technical advice.

What I liked:
I liked how the author is an experienced blogger and that the tips that are given has been tested and it is a known recipe for a successful blog.

What I did not like:
As a student I must inform those who do not know. Wikipedia is not a reliable source. When quoting statistics from Wikipedia I will be a bit skeptical of the truth your statement holds.
The technical videos did not cover what I would have liked to lean. They are very basic tutorials. I was hoping for more intermediate tutorials.

Rating:
This book gets 3 pretty little snowflakes.

In The Book Blogger Platform, author Barb Drozdowich calls upon her own personal book blogging experience to write a very informative and thorough step-by-step guide to creating, maintaining, and enjoying book blogging.

As a book review blogger since June 2010, I wish I had this awesome guide when I began to think about creating a book blog that would share my passion and love for reading with other bookworms. As I read through each chapter of the guide, I found a lot of valuable information, advice and guidance that is very relevant and useful.

In The Book Blogger Platform, the author takes the reader through every stage of creating a book blog that is more than just a hobby, it is a labor of love. From defining who book bloggers are; to creating a blog using the popular sites of Free Word Press and Blogger; to the intricate details of formatting the perfect blog that will capture your passion; to the trials, tribulations, and satisfaction of creating a successful book blog that will generate worldwide book followers; to social media exposure, working with authors and publicists, and virtual book blog tours; this is a nifty reference manual that provides the perfect guidance and advice for the newbie and experienced book blogger!

It doesn't matter if you are a newbie or an experienced book blogger, The Book Blogger Platform is a must have, it will always be a useful reference guide that you can refer back to from time to time!

Disclaimer: I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for my honest review and participation in a virtual book blast event hosted by Goddess Fish Promotions.

The Book Blogger Platform by Barb Drozdowich is a resource for bloggers that want to share their love of books, and their thoughts on the books they read. Are you a book blogger or do you want to be one? Are you having trouble handling the technical details of blogging? The Book Blogger Platform can be a "user manual" for your blog! A book written by a book blogger for book bloggers and that answers all your questions!

The Book Blogger Platform covers the basics off book blogging, complete with technical advice and over 25 how-to videos that are included at the end. The book covers everything you could need, including a breakdown of why many bloggers get started, how or where you can host your blog, what you should include in your blog, and the importance of networking with other bloggers (my shortcoming). The information was clear and well organized, and the technical instructions were concise and understandable to beginners and seasoned veterans. I am glad I read the book because it reminded me that I had some updating and twerking to do, and that I had been seriously slacking in the social aspect of blogging.

The Book Blogger Platform is a good guide for beginning bloggers. I will say that some of the links are no longer useful, because of blog catalogs or groups having disbanded or changing names, but as a general rule this book would be handy for those starting out, and for reminding those of us that have been at it awhile to keep updating and evolving with technology and our lives.

I’ve been toying with the idea of setting up my own book blog for a little while, but have never been sure where to begin, so I was keen to review this book. I wasn’t disappointed. Barb Drozdowich has had her own book blog for some time, so has lots of first hand experience.

It started with the very basics of book blogging and goes through every stage of the process in detail explaining all the options (and there are many) right through to keeping your blog going and becoming part of the wider blogging community.

Each chapter covers a different step of the process and is broken down further into smaller bits. At the back of the book there are several pages of links to YouTube videos which give technical advice on certain aspects of setting up and running a book blog. These are useful for anyone who is more of a visual learner.

As a blogging novice I found the book very useful as it assumes that the reader has no previous knowledge of book blogging and covers all of the most popular blogging platforms. As with most technical books, it makes for very dry reading at times and there is a lot to take in and learn. That said, it is broken down into bite-sized chunks which makes it easier to dip in and out and I know I will refer back to it later when I decide to begin setting up my book blog.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

As a book blogger (albeit and occasional one), I was really excited to hear about The Book Blogger Platform and to read it. I expected to find advice that would help me build my blog platform and engage a new audience. There was a bit of that, but the book focused mainly on the technical side of setting up a blog.

If you know very little about how to start a Wordpress site or open a basic account on Blogger, you'll find The Book Blogger Platform very useful. However, as a blogger with a few years of experience, I found that it didn't include the information I really wanted, like discussion about how to drive traffic to one's site, how to build a loyal following, or how to monetize a site to the level of a full-time income. These sorts of things don't necessarily occur to a new blogger, and to have it in an introductory book would not be helpful. So, the author's come out with a really great book for beginners.

Advanced bloggers will want to look to other sources for more information about how to take their blogs to the next level.

The book was very good for its purpose, though. I would recommend it to someone just starting out. Tens of thousands of blogs are started every day, so there is definitely a need for the The Book Blogger Platform. For the right reader, it can help ease the growing pains of just getting started.

The Book Blogger Platform, written by Barb Drozdowich, is a good beginner’s guide to book blogging. It is well organized, covers a good amount of ground, gives clear explanations about using the most popular platforms, and offers some really good advice.

The pictures, unfortunately, were too small for me to see clearly, but perhaps they show up better on other, newer devices (I have a Kindle Touch). I also felt the author was a little too opinionated about platform choice.

There was a lot of information included that most people will already know, but for those just starting out, this book covers all the basics necessary to start a good, solid blog. 4 stars.

Very good tips and information, I'm now following many more booksblog than before, so if you are interested in writing a blog about books this is the right tool to start with. I was only a little bit disappointed that there were no information about sites like Netgalley and Edelweiss, that would have made me happy, and also definitely ruined what's left of my "real life".

THANKS TO NETGALLEY AND BOOKTROPE FOR THE PREVIEW!

A great guide to those who are just starting out in the world of online blogging, and a welcome refresher for those who just need a few tips to perfect their platform. Barb Drozdowich uses the perfect tone to help readers start their journey. She is not condescending, or assuming that you know everything like some books are. It certainly helped me reflect on what I'm doing well, and what I could be doing better. I love the layout of the book, it takes you step by step and doesn't bounce all over the place.

BEGINNERS GUIDE TO BOOK BLOGGING

I am a beginning book blogger, but most of this was common sense elements. There are aspects that are beneficial though and I would recommend it for some one similar to me but that does not understand the components of blogging already, like post title etc. Also she mentions she is biased towards WordPress self-hosted services and it shows. It felt at times I was getting a do it this way instead of a helping hand towards what should work for me. I want to figure this out with a helping hand. I want to decide what works best for me and it seemed for too many pages this was not what was occurring. I appreciate many aspects to the book, but feel sections on certain aspects like content were shorter than they should be based on what it is advertised as in its blurbs. I will utilize some of three resources but overall I learned much of this on my own before reading the book and that is coming from someone new to the community.

The book focusses- as the title suggest- on bloggers who blog about books. But even with book bloggers as target audience, the book is also informative for other types of bloggers.

The book gives insights in manners to set up a blog (up to certain hights ofcourse) and give some technical information (There is also a summary of technical information in the back of the book).

The technical information is enough when you first start a blog, but in my opinion not enough to understand most of the technical aspects of setting up and maintaining a blog. The technical terms spoken about are: linking (social media and other websites and the basic basics of HTML). I do understand the choice of not bringing to much programming or technical information in the book, as it can be seen as chaotic or difficult at the beginning.

I'm thinking of starting up yet another book blog and as always I went in search of information to help me in my quest.

The only thing that I noticed that was off was that YouTube and Instagram were mentioned in the social media sections, but not the BookTube and Bookstagram communities. But I did just look at when the book was published and perhaps they weren't as big back then especially Bookstagram.

But yeah great information. Neatly packaged. I didn't really look at any of the videos though I think there may be one or two I'll pursue in the future.

I was really hoping that The Book Blogger Platform would be a really easy read that would make using WordPress a little bit more easy for me. I won’t lie, I am not the most technologically advanced of people out there. I wanted a jargon free (or at least a book that explained what the jargon meant) book that give me step by step guides on how to spruce up my minimalistic little blog.

I didn’t get that.

Instead, I had another book that bogged me down with words that I don’t understand and to be honest reading about something as technical as how to use a blogging platform is a little dry.

Somewhat ironically, the book comes into its own with the video explanations. Now those I found extremely helpful.

The Book Blogger Platform is not a book for the novice blogger. The technical side of things will inevitably scare you away and lead you into a panic. However, if you are a novice then skip to the YouTube links at the back. They are way more helpful.

The Book Blogger Platform by Barb Drozdowich is available now.

This is a nicely presented step-by-step guide that allows one to use either WordPress or Blogger to set up a book blog with a minimum of fuss. The great information presented makes me wish I had read something like this when I started, it would have saved me a bit of time. I, too, have blogs in both platforms and have had my share of issues using each, but I think that the author does a wonderful job of providing screen-shots and clear guidance. I have been encouraged to explore more of the capabilities of each platform and will undoubtedly be able to polish my posts even more once I actually sit down and play with some of the buttons I have ignored up to this point. I think this is an excellent reference for both the newbie and the experienced blogger and I look forward to more great advice from this author, as this is the second well-organized book that I have read from her.

This was definitely an interesting and useful read if you're a blogger or about to start a blog. I've personally been blogging for years now so I found a lot of the book a bit to beginner for my liking, but some information was very useful regarding the 'book blogging' area specifically. I would definitely pick this up if you're thinking of starting a blog about books.
