Rate this book
Published in partnership with the Toronto Maple Leafs and officially licensed by the NHL, this is the one and only official Toronto Maple Leafs Centennial publication!

The Toronto Maple Leafs are one of the most storied franchises in all of sport and without question -- the most recognized team in all of hockey. Through this journey of a hundred years of Maple Leaf hockey, fans will read of ups and downs, triumphs and tears, laughter and laments. This publication tells the Leafs' complete history and introduces fans to coaches, as well as such legends Apps and Armstrong, Kennedy and Keon, Broda and Bower, Salming and Sundin, but also players who wore the Blue and White and left far more modest legacies. It takes fans to Toronto's first game, the construction of Maple Leaf Gardens and subsequent move to the Air Canada Centre. It celebrates Toronto's Stanley Cups and Hall of Fame players and demonstrates that through each exciting season, the Toronto Maple Leafs have forever remained our team and enjoyed the incredibly loyal support of a nation of fans.
Published in complete partnership with the Toronto Maple Leafs and scheduled to release as the Leafs enter their 100th season, this official centennial publication includes contributions from many of the biggest names in Leaf history. Author Kevin Shea gained unprecedented access to players -- past and present -- as well as team executives to offer this book the most compelling, informed, and accurate portrayal of Toronto's historic hockey team and their important place in both the world of hockey and the culture of Canada. Combined with incredible archival photographs and a truly incredible design, this is the definitive and must have book for fans of the Blue and White.

Windsor-born, music-industry man turned hockey historian, Kevin Shea is the real deal. He has the heart of the game, mind of a librarian and the memory of a goal judge.

From his experience working at the Hockey Hall of Fame to his 100 Grades of Shea series on Substack, he chronicles the sport like a man documenting a living myth.

His books, Barilko: Without a Trace, Lord Stanley: The Man Behind The Cup and The Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey Club: Official Centennial Publication are titles that belong on every shelf beside a puck and a program stub. He reminds us that hockey isn’t just a pastime — it’s an archive of character and country.

Kevin's 22nd book, out in time for Christmas 2025, Barclay Bear and the Forest Rangers Hockey Club, is his second foray into hockey books targeted, but not limited, to children.

Kevin lives in Ajax Ontario with his partner and his cat, Skye.

This was a great look at the entire history of the Toronto Maple Leafs. I'm not sure there's much value for anyone who isn't a Leafs fan or a serious hockey history junkie but, as a big Leafs, this was amazing.

I’m a Leafs fan so I’m biased, but this book was excellent. It presents a fair and honest assessment of the Leafs’ history from 1917 to 2017. It shows the successes and failures, moments of glory, and moments of ignominy.

The only critique, and this is because of hindsight more than anything else, is that the short section on 2016 selling hope for the future is tough to read when this incarnation of the Leafs in 2022 is failing like every other era dating back to 1967.

For Leafs fans, though, it’s a must read.

Very good. Recommended for Maple Leafs fans. Comprehensive, detailed, has the right tone. Lots of good photos. I casually made my way through, picking out the parts that caught my interest.
