Hunted down for crimes he is almost certain he did not commit, a mild-mannered academic puts his faith in a TV anchorwoman, the only person who understands the evil that drives him.
Serpent's Kiss was dark and dull to me. It was written under the pen name Daniel Ransome, but it's actually one of Edward Gorman's many novels. It isn't his writing that got to me; it was the topic/content. It's got too much horror mixed with crime for me. I couldn't quite find a comfortable place for the book to sit with me. I'd definitely try one of his others in the future (which wont be difficult because he's been really prolific), but this one isn't for me.
A mediocre offering from the usually fantastic Ed Gorman aka Daniel Ransom. This one has a decent premise but the execution is pretty uneven. The really sadistic sexual abuse and rape aspects hurt the book and left a bad taste in my mouth. A lesser book by a great author.
For most of this, I thought it could have been written by Richard Laymon. Normally it would have been a lazy afternoon read, but ended up taking a week, only partly due to outside commitments, and partly due to the lack of thrill. Three stars seems right.
