This popular series travels the planet to study these and other fascinating mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, and invertebrates. Beautiful photos are paired with STEM-appropriate text to examine the featured creature's appearance, habitat, behaviors, and life cycle. Each book also presents a folk story that people have used to help explain the animal's appearance or behavior.
A basic exploration of the appearance, behavior, and habitat of antelopes, the bovids of Africa and Asia. Also included is a story from folklore explaining how tsessebes got their horns.
Some nice photographs of antelopes, but the text is overbroad. Thin material - a sentence or two per page - spread across the entire taxon. I like meatier children's science survey books; it's easy to compress text when bedtime reading needs warrant, but hard to expand.
The author stuck to the scientific definition of antelopes, so there are no American antelopes/pronghorns, not even a mention of how they don't fit in with the rest.
Great animal series for grades 2-4! Beautiful, large photographs with caption and a brief paragraph about each type of antelope. The final “chapter” is an African tale about an antelope. Back matter includes websites and two books for additional information.
